Australia Sex Party

SYDNEY, Australia — They see themselves variously as “filling a gap” in Australian politics and “sticking it up” those American-style neo-cons of Australian society. And while sober discussion of immigration, workers’ rights and economic policy has thus far trumped talk of pornography and pole dancing, the misfits of the Australian Sex Party (ASP) are campaigning voraciously across the country in the lead-up to the Aug. 21 general elections. With their mandate of “keeping the government out of our bedrooms,” ASP’s policies generally revolve around, you guessed it, sex. Straddling the line where sex meets national politics, the policies of the party — formed in 2008 — include greater sex education in schools, opposing mandatory internet filters, more vigorous investigation into claims of child sex abuse in religious institutions and listing medication for treating sexual dysfunctions on the public subsidy program. http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/asia/100812/sex-education-australia-elections added by: ampersand

Soulja Boy, Stop Killing Hip-Hop: Music Intervention

infoMania's Sergo Cilli demands that Soulja Boy take a break from buying Gucci bandanas and flossing his pretty boy swag to actually write good songs. Soulja Boy claims to have a million of them, so why do all of his tracks sound like the same repetitive crap? Even Ice-T has something to say about it. It takes a real friend to call an intervention to help you realize you might have a problem. This also applies to music. Except Sergio is not your friend but he still wants you to stop. "Hallowed Ground" | History Eraser Button

“A few photos of stuff the same distance from the World Trade Center as the “Ground Zero Mosque” (click on the picture to access the photos) “What’s my point? A month ago, I wrote about my support for a group of Muslim New Yorkers—whom I consider my neighbors—and their right to put a religious building on a piece of private property in Lower Manhattan. Since then, the debate over the Park51 community center, inaccurately nicknamed the “Ground Zero Mosque,” has jumped from talk radio to mainstream conversation, and turned nasty in the process. Sarah Palin wrote that, “it would be an intolerable and tragic mistake to allow such a project sponsored by such an individual to go forward on such hallowed ground.” “Look at the photos. This neighborhood is not hallowed. The people who live and work here are not obsessed with 9/11. The blocks around Ground Zero are like every other hard-working neighborhood in New York, where Muslims are just another thread of the city fabric. “”At this point the only argument against this project is fear, specifically fear of Muslims, and that’s a bigoted, cowardly and completely indefensible position. “Update: Read some samples of reader feedback on this post.” added by: Vierotchka

BP Catastrophe: Scientists Have Confirmed That Toxic Organisms and Oil Have Been Found on the Gulf Floor | Video

Scientists: Toxic organisms, oil found on Gulf floor John Paul says, at first, he couldn't believe his own scientific data showing toxic microscopic marine organisms in the Gulf of Mexico. He repeated the field test. A colleague did his own test. All the results came back the same: toxic. It was the first time Paul and other University of South Florida scientists had made such a finding since they started investigating the environmental damage from the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The preliminary results, the scientists believe, show that oil that has settled on the floor is contaminating small sea organisms. Paul is a marine microbiologist with the University of South Florida. He and 13 other researchers were in the middle of a 10-day research mission that began August 6 in the Gulf of Mexico when they made the toxic discovery. The researchers battled 12-foot waves and storms but returned to St. Petersburg, Florida Monday night. We were there as the team pulled its research materials into the lab and got the first report back of their initial findings. The researchers found micro-droplets of oil scattered across the ocean floor and they also found those droplets moving up through a part of the Gulf called the DeSoto Canyon, a channel which funnels water and nutrients into the popular commercial and recreational waters along the Florida Gulf Coast. The scientists say even though it's getting harder to see the oil the Gulf is still not safe. “This whole concept of submerged oil and the application of dispersants in the subsurface and what are the impacts that it could have, have changed the paradigm of what an oil spill is from a 2-dimensional surface disaster to a 3-dimensional catastrophe,” said David Hollander, a chemical oceanographer and one of the lead scientists on the recent USF mission. added by: EthicalVegan

-Ground Zero: NY Says No to Rebuilding a Church Destroyed on 9/11 but Yes to the Mosque?

The ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ controversy keeps on going. President Obama weighed in over the weekend with a few comments that hit the fan so to speak. One observation he made is that Islam should be treated just like any other religion in America and I totally agree. In a previous post I commented that I believed that NY was giving preferential treatment to the Cordoba Mosque project and that I really doubted that a church would ever approved by the city to be built at the same location as the so-called ‘Ground Zero Mosque’. Turns out that I was entirely correct. St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church which stood across the street from the World Trade center was reduced to dust on September 11, 2001. For 9 years the NY Port Authority has refused to let them rebuild their church—a church that was actually destroyed in the attack but plans for a new mosque are approved by the city? It is my view that St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church should be rebuilt. The President talked about private property rights and that the Muslims should be allowed to build on their own property near ‘Ground Zero’. Well, what about the property rights of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church? The church had been there since 1922 but their rights are being totally disregarded. The church that was destroyed in the 9/11 attacks should be rebuilt first before any new project like the Cordoba Mosque is considered. It is obvious to me that the Muslims in this case are receiving better treatment from the city than the church. Here’s an article written by George Demos who is running for Congress in that very area about the Church and the Mosque: “Rebuild the Church at Ground Zero, Not the Mosque” http://answersforthefaith.com/2010/08/17/ground-zero-ny-says-no-to-rebuilding-a-… added by: congoboy

Facebook ‘dislike’ scam warning

Survey scams are well known online, they offer money or free items for just filling out a survey. It's a classic too good to be true scheme, but it still manages to scam people. The latest warning comes from Facebook, where users think they're adding an application for a dislike button (which has been a demand for users on the website). What happens is the app uses your account to spam messages with links, which tries to fool your friends into thinking you posted them. “Many people are giving permission for completely unknown apps,” Mr Cluley told BBC News. As far as we can tell, they appear to be legitimate,” he said. “It could be that the firms are not policing their affiliates properly.” The scam finally points users towards a Firefox add-on that installs a “dislike” button.”-BBC added by: Mcellie

2 largest liars/skeptics on climate change admit it’s happening and human caused

“Stu Ostro, Senior Meteorologist at the Weather Channel: “I changed my point of view from what it was in the days of the Fred Singer article, and would do so again if that’s what the evidence shows. But it does not. As I wrote back in 2006, global warming is not a religion. The chemistry, physics, and thermodynamics involved are science, not religion, nor are they liberal or conservative.”” http://current.com/1b9jn4c And from a different article: “CNN's long time climate change skeptic and purveyor of every wingnut talking point on global warming in the book, Chad Myers, finally admits the truth: “Is it caused by man? Yes. Is it 100% caused by man? No.”” http://current.com/179jn4c added by: TopScruffy
