Sara Romweber Dies; Let’s Active Drummer Was 55

Sara Romweber was a legendary drummer who played with Let’s Active, Snatches of Pink, and of course with the Dex Romweber Duo. She has now died of a brain tumor. The beloved musician was 55 years old. Romweber has been well-known for years in North Carolina’s thriving indie music scene. But she also made her break into mainstream music recognition. She was part of the ’80s-era trio Let’s Active, which was led by early R.E.M. coproducer Mitch Easter. That power-pop group enjoyed a great deal of success on college radio charts. The trio opened for R.E.M. and other acts. Romweber specifically played on Afoot , Let’s Active’s 1983 debut EP and Cypress , their 1984 album. Let’s Active received critical praise, but only limited commercial success. The trio’s 1984 song, “Every Word Means No,” has been described by Billboard as a “quintessential gem” of the time period. Not every band manages to produce a song that endures through the ages as representative of the era. In particular, Let’s Active was praised for its hooks and cleverly skewed lyrics. Mitch Easter stated that he would write songs and hand them off to Romweber, who would figure out how to make them work musically. Romweber’s musical legacy was not limited to Let’s Active, however. She joined he Winston-Salem area group, Snatches of Pink, which is a hell of a band name. More recently, she teamed up with her younger brother, Dexter. Together, they formed the Dex Romweber Duo. From 2009 to 2014, they released four albums. That included collaborating with Jack White on a single, “The Wind Did Move.” American musician and label owner Ralph Lee “Mac” McCaughan took to Instagram to eulogize Romweber. “Sara Romweber was one of the kindest, most unique, & inspiring people i’ve known & she passed away yesterday,” he begins. “She was so important to me that i wrote a paper about her my freshman year in college,” he shares. He continues: “The Romweber home on Pine St in Carrboro was open to everyone & the heart of a musical community.” Mac notes that “you can see some of this in the episode of ‘IRS The Cutting Edge’ if it’s on anywhere.” View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2019: In Memoriam Mac’s post continues as he praises her brilliance as a drummer. “A fantastically powerful and creative drummer,” he describes her. Mac expresses: “watching her play was a joy no matter what band.” “And,” he says. “I’ll be listening to these masterpieces this morning.” He concludes that he will be “thinking about Sara and her family.”

The Christmas spirit lives… Christmas is over, but Love Magazine is so contemporary, so avant garde, so artistic, so edgy, so advanced, so cutting edge, so revolutionary…that they run their Christmas campaign through december…and their Christmas campaign has nothing to do with December, but it does have to do with girls dancing around in their underwear, even flat assed flat chested models like Romee Strijid, who unlike the other instagram models, is not some rich and famous person’s kid…but could be in her homeland of Netherlands, for all I know her dad is the best wooden shoe maker in all of the land of the ducth…not that doesn’t matter, since she’s tall, an actual model… She walks for Victoria’s Secret, so that makes her better than the homeless girl you give 10 dollars to jerk off on…. Toe Pick! Bourne Legacy’s Tony Gilroy (Fondly) Remembers His 1992 Olympic Skating Romance The Cutting Edge

Sure, he adapted the Bourne series, Stephen King’s Dolores Claiborne , 2009’s State of Play , and earned Oscar nods for writing and directing his own politically-tinged thriller, Michael Clayton – but any chat with The Bourne Legacy co-writer/director Tony Gilroy would be remiss without discussing his very first screenplay, amirite ? So without further ado, take a triple lutz down memory lane with Movieline and Gilroy as he recalls the joy of seeing his first produced script come to life. That’s right, lovers of Olympian sports sagas and ‘90s-era romance: we’re taking Gilroy back to The Cutting Edge . Gilroy earned his first credit with the 1992 romantic dramedy, about a high maintenance figure skater (Moira Kelly) and an ex-hockey star (D.B. Sweeney) who reluctantly pair up to compete in the XVI Olympic Winter Games. Despite underperforming at the box office, The Cutting Edge was a ‘90s staple that went on to enjoy a popular home video/cable afterlife, like so many films of the decade; the opposites-attract Taming of the Shrew -on-ice set-up proved so rich that ABC Family resurrected the brand 14 years later, spawning three more sequels, and was memorably spoofed in the Will Ferrell vehicle Blades of Glory . For most fans, the phrase “toe pick” vividly conjures the feisty chemistry between Kelly’s Kate Moseley and Sweeney’s Doug Dorsey. And though he subsequently launched full-bore into more heady, decidedly Tony Gilroy-esque terrain (2009’s Duplicity , perhaps, comes closest), Gilroy lit up when we brought up arguably his most cherished early work. So, we’ve got to talk about The Cutting Edge , a movie I loved and watched more times over than I can recall. Tony Gilroy: [Laughing] Were you a skater? No, but I was a girl! Gilroy: And there’s only one kiss in there! Talk about a chaste movie. All they get is one kiss at the end, in public. From that to this…? I can still say “toe pick” and people know exactly what I’m talking about. Gilroy: [Laughs] You’re making my day. How did you go from an Olympics-themed skating romance to the politically-charged, character-driven complex dramas you went on to write and direct? Do you see any throughline there? Gilroy: So many scripts! I always like to do something different, but I don’t know – it’s always the same, it’s always what’s right for the idea of the movie. What possessed you to write a movie like this in the first place? I’d written some very serious scripts before that, and I was so desperate to get a movie made that when I sat down with [producer] Robert Cort and he said, “You wrote this other movie and it’s this Preston Sturgess-esque kind of movie and I like the relationship between the two people, they’re always bickering — and I want to do a skating movie. Because every seven years there has to be a skating movie, and we’re due.” I go, “A skating movie? Well, if I write this, will you get it made? Because I’m tired of writing movies that don’t get made.” He was in a really powerful position at Interscope and he’s a great guy. He said, “If you write this, I’m going to make this movie.” So I poured myself into it and did everything I could not to get fired and stay on, and it was tremendous fun. Do you remember it fondly? Oh my god, yes. Visiting the first production office where your movie’s going, and walking in realizing there are 60, 80 people going to work because you sat in a room… it’s just the coolest. Ho Sit Down: Madonna Talks That Isht About Janet Jackson And Her Superbowl Performance!!

This old-a$$ beyotch bumpin’ her gums about Janet??? Aw, HELL naw!! Like the chicken and the egg, nobody really remembers which diva said what first, but Janet Jackson and Madonna have allegedly been feuding for decades now. Whether or not these allegations are true is uncertain. However, just this week, Madonna interviewed with NY1 to promote her Super Bowl half-time show performance as well as her new film set to debut soon, during which she slammed Janet for her prior controversial nip slip seen around the world. When asked whether or not she had any juicy surprises up her sleeve, Madonna responded “I have not mainstreamed and I’m not planning anything naughty. I’m planning something super entertaining.” She then continued on to talk that talk about her fellow chart-topping colleague. “Yep, yep! You don’t have to show nipples to be interesting or and it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re cutting edge if you do right?” That’s a pretty ironic criticism seeing as though Madonna made her whole career off of being naked and being “cutting edge” Source What is behind all of this hate that Madonna has for Janet? Is jealousy afoot? Did Janet take one of Madge’s boy-toys?? Let’s take a look at some interesting pictures of these ladies and their similar styles through the years.

James Cameron Wants to Film Parts of Avatar 2 at the Bottom of the Sea

Photo: Wikipedia , Creative Commons But How Will Blue on Blue Look on Screen? James Cameron is nothing if not ambitious. Avatar was a triumph of cutting edge technologies (advanced motion capture, 3D cameras, computer generated characters and sets, digital projection, etc), but it might turn out to have been a walk in the part compared to the Avatar sequel. Cameron has apparently decided to have at least part of the action take place in Pandora’s oceans, and he has commissioned an ultra-deep-sea submarine that can rea… Read the full story on TreeHugger
