The Real Housewives of Atlanta Recap – Miss USA Attitude

One of the newest members of The Real Housewives of Atlanta says “Call Me Miss USA.”  I can think of many things to call her…and Miss USA isn’t on the list   We recap all the silly fussing and feuding in our THG +/- review. But first we check in with NeNe who seems to be the happiest Housewife on the block these days.  She’s splitting her time between Atlanta and LA and Gregg wants a piece of the action.   He’ll move to LA, if NeNe will give him a key to her place, and her heart.   Minus 18 because Gregg really knows how to ramp up the cheesiness.  He’s wooing her with bad poetry and interrupting her pedicure so he can rub and kiss her feet.  Down boy. Someone please make him stop. Later NeNe heads to NYC doing some publicity for her sitcom The New Normal and Cynthia tags along.  Cynthia lived in New York before she had two dimes to rub together so she’s shocked that NeNe has never ridden the subway. Plus 12 for taking NeNe on the grand tour and Cynthia’s right…those six inch spiked heels are not subway friendly. The cutest moment was when a bunch of students from a performing arts school recognized NeNe from her work on Glee .  Plus 15 .  Ms. Leakes was gracious and encouraging and seemed to enjoyed the encounter as much as the kids. Now if Cynthia could just get her to partake of that hotdog, maybe throw in a pretzel too we can make a real New Yorker out of NeNe yet. Of course Phaedra’s husband Apollo might not be too pleased with the New York street vendor diet.  He just got certified as a nutritionist and physical trainer.  Plus 8 . Apollo and Phaedra are now working on their donkey bootie workout video for women who need a little help getting a curvaceous bottom.   Phaedra describes Apollo’s enthusiasm for the project as “Arnold Schwarteneager on bath salts” which is a little intimidating considering Phaedra’s not looking to actually sweat during the workout.  Minus 10 .  Who knows what they’ll finally come up with. Once again, Kim is barely on the screen except to make clear that she’s pulling all of the “mother f**king flowers” she had put on the property out before she leaves.  Minus 12 . Since I doubt she’ll be doing it herself I’m sure she’ll be paying good money to have it done. And Kandi’s mostly missing in action as well as she packs up her awards to get the last of her things out of the old house as she moves one with the new. Now on to Miss USA.  First some background.  Kenya shares with Phaedra that her mother is mentally ill.  She gave Kenya up and has never acknowledged her.  Kenya was raised by her grandmother.  It’s definitely a big issue for her and something that can still drive her to tears. But any sympathy that garners gets tossed out the window once we spend some time with Miss USA from 1990-something.   OK, I’ll admit that Porsha is a bit of a bubbly airhead who appears to have had everything handed to her and she should have known Kenya was a Miss USA, not Miss America. Minus 10 . But I have to think that she’s not the first to make the mistake.  You’d think Kenya would handle it with some grace. Ha! Minus 20 . Instead Kenya’s got her nose so out of joint that she calls Porsha a “heifer” behind her back and leaves early. When Porsha comes outside to make sure everything is alright the insults continue to fly. Kenya tells the camera that, “I will curse your ass out and keep on steppin’.'”  So first she ticked off Cynthia and now she made an enemy of Porsha.  That didn’t take long. Yes, that’s our Miss USA. The epitome of grace and class…NOT.   Episode total = -35!                                          Season total = -19!

Michelle, Sasha and Malia Obama Attend Beyonce Concert

Michelle Obama was with the single ladies during the weekend: her daughters. The First Lady of the United States attended a Beyonce concert in Atlantic City, N.J., with Sasha and Malia by her side for the show at Revel Resorts. Beyonce performed two dozen songs Saturday, reports said. Michelle and the two girls appeared excited throughout the concert, cheering Beyonce on. Sasha and Malia even sang along to the old school-sounding jam “Love on Top.” Michelle and Beyonce seem to be building quite the rapport of late: MTV says the two have been exchanging letters for the past few months. Michelle Obama told People last week that if she could be any other person in the world, she’d be Beyonc

Jenny McCarthy and Brian Urlacher: Dating!

Jenny McCarthy and Brian Urlacher, star of the NFL’s Chicago Bears, are totally a couple , according to reports. Reports she confirmed this weekend. The football great joined McCarthy Thursday night at Rockit Bar & Grill for the “Rescue Our Angels” event, benefiting Jenny’s autism charity. Asked about Urlacher at The Generation Rescue Foundation event by WMAQ-Channel 5, Jenny McCarthy said, “Yes, it’s true, we are dating.” Despite attempting to hit out-of-the-way meeting places, the couple hadn’t been able to hide their budding romance, try as they might. “Let’s face it, it was really already out there, everybody knew it,” she said. Also, the relationship apparently has reached a point where McCarthy feels it’s “the real deal and will last,” added a source close to her. McCarthy clearly was not hiding anywhere or anything Friday. She joined about 30 close Urlacher friends to toast his 34th birthday. Jenny, 39, recently announced that she’ll be posing in Playboy again nearly two decades after it put her on the map. [Photos: WENN.com]

Chris Hayes, MSNBC Commentator, Questions "Hero" Designation for Military Members

Chris Hayes, a political commentator on MSNBC, has created quite a stir – on Memorial Day of all days – for remarks he made yesterday in regard to the designation of military personnel as “heroes.” The journalist said he feels “uncomfortable” throwing that word about because it is “so rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war.” In other words: How can we refer to someone as heroic if we disagree with the cause for which he or she died? It certainly seems like an odd way to make a point about war. Surely we can differentiate between policy and the troops carrying out that policy in the name of a country they love, can’t we? Watch the clip and form your own opinion. Chris Hayes Asks: Are Military Men Heroes? Should Chris Hayes apologize for these comments?

Christine Marinoni and Cynthia Nixon: Married!

Former Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon is now a married woman. The actress exchanged vows over the weekend with Christine Marinoni, the woman to whom she got engaged three years ago during a rally to support same-sex marriage in New York. A bill allowing for just that was passed in the summer of 2011. Confirms Nixon’s rep to People : “On May 27, 2012, Cynthia Nixon and her girlfriend, Christine Marinoni, were legally married in the state of New York. Nixon wore a custom dress by Carolina Herrera.” Nixon – who has two children from a previous relationship and one with Marinoni, an education activist – created a stir earlier this year when she said homosexuality is a choice . She then went on to amend the statement and explain she was only referring to her own experience. [Photo: WENN.com]

Sister Wives Season Finale Recap: Welcome, Solomon!

In typical reality show fashion, we already knew about Kody Brown’s 17th child being born well before the episode aired, but Sunday we got a behind-the-scenes look. The emotions leading up to Robyn’s delivery of son Solomon were wide-ranging, including those of Kody’s first three wives, Meri, Christine and Janelle. How did the original three take it? What else went down? At lunch, Robyn says she’s nervous about how Kody feels about another child. Meri, Christine and Janelle reassure her that “Kody’s great” and that she’s going to feel “relieved.” Just what one wants to feel when one’s spouse cares. Relief. Robyn tells the wives that they are the reason Kody is so great. Heartfelt? Most likely. Politically savvy comment? Absolutely. You gotta get in good right now. Christine may be coming around as a result, too. Making peace with Robyn, she admits, “Being jealous of her, what it really did, it made her feel like she wasn’t welcome. That I didn’t want her as a sister wife.” “I welcome Solomon as my son and I promise to be better,” Christine adds, while Janelle is just sort of excited. Excited, but not get-up-at-all-hours excited. Meri observes, “It’ll be fun to have Solomon, but it’ll be very different than if it were my own.” Ya think, Meri? She and Robyn have become very close, though. She says she always wanted to feel that deep kind of connection with a sister wife and Robyn was the first to provide that. Oh, snap, Christine and Janelle. After the due date comes and goes (by two weeks), Robyn goes into labor, at home, and gives birth, at home. This happened on October 25, so it’s pretty timely. Meri came over to say, “Good luck! Happy pushing!” Read: I’m glad it’s not me! A few hours later and voila, Kody and Robyn welcomed their first child together. “I was impressed,” Kody said. “Here’s our dream come true.” Wonderful. Perhaps the most startling moment of the night, in a good way, came when Robyn said she needed to talk to Meri alone. But not to stir up drama. “I want to know if you want me to be your surrogate,” she says. Meri can’t bear children, so this is one incredible offer … from the woman also married to her husband. Robyn is genuine in her offer, and Meri is clearly moved. In this family-themed episode, the other 16 Brown children talked about the move from Utah to Vegas. It’s going well, for the most part. Keep the faith, kids. Well, that’s that. What did you think of this season of the quirky TLC reality hit? What do you think of Kody Brown and his four beloved Sister Wives in general?

The Real Housewives of Atlanta Recap: Kandi Burruss’ Birthday Blues

The Real Housewives of Atlanta had another party this week, this time for Kandi’s 35th birthday. Unfortunately, a surprise guest upsets Momma and THG is here to take you through all the drama in our +/- recap! First we get to recap last week’s drama when Peter and Apollo nearly came to blows at Kim’s baby shower . Kim’s ticked and rightfully so. Next time she’ll remember to “keep the ex-cons and a$$holes off the guest list.” But Phaedra steps up and earns a big Plus 10 showing up to Kim’s with a gift basket and an apology. She may not have been able to stop the men at the time but at least she did the right thing coming forward and saying she was sorry. Neither Cynthia or Peter bothered. Heck, they were five hours late and didn’t even send a gift. Minus 15 because that’s just beyond rude. Speaking of Cynthia, try as she might to mend fences they just seem to burn. She calls her sister over to talk to Peter about the incident at her wedding a year ago. Who could have guessed this wouldn’t go well? Minus 10 . You can’t force people to make up and nothing got accomplished here except for dredging up bad memories that won’t soon be forgotten. Later, Cynthia and her sister argue about Peter’s new bushiness venture. Unfortunately, Cynthia doesn’t know her sister is right. Bar One is in financial trouble before it’s even begun and Peter’s going to look to his wife to bail him out. Minus 9 because that’s just going to widen the divide between Cynthia, Peter and her family. Kim’s getting prepared for the big event. No, not another party. She talks to Phaedra about what it was like when she had her son. Phaedra says she had an epidural, morphine and was “crazy as a vampire in sunlight.” Plus 5 for being honest but let’s hope Kim has an easier time. Having had only girls, Kim’s concerned about having a boy and takes some lessons on diapering a circumcised baby. She’s nervous about what to do with a penis. Plus 7 to Kroy who already seems to be a pro with the diaper detail.
