Kate Gosselin ‘Dancing With The Stars?’

Is Kate Gosselin polishing moves for Dancing with the Stars ? Reports are circulating that the newly single TV mom could be headed to the hit reality show. The former star of Jon & Kate Plus 8 may be included in the line-up of contestants for next season’s Dancing with the Stars according to a report by UPI. According to one report, Gosselin has sequestered herself to polish up her moves. Lisa Stanley , a US radio personality, said the reality TV star was shimmying away at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel – sans kids. TLC , the network that produced Jon & Kate , has not revealed its plans for Gosselin, who recently divorced Jon , and lives with her eight children in Pennsylvania. Stanley’s radio station KEARTH 101 , meanwhile, put out a press release to say Gosselin was “under a shroud of security at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel, rehearsing her dance steps with no children to be seen.” What do you think, will Kate join the show?

iTunes Sells 10 Billion Songs

Downloader who bought 10 billionth track wins a $10,000 iTunes gift card. By Ryan J. Downey iTunes hits ten billion sold Photo: Apple Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry helped drive sales of tracks on Apple’s iTunes store past the 10 billion mark Wednesday (February 24). And the person who bought the 10 billionth track gets a $10,000 iTunes gift card. The Black Eye Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” is the most-downloaded song on the store , with “Boom Boom Pow” landing at #3. Lady Gaga is the artist with the most songs toward the top, with “Poker Face” at #2, “Just Dance” at #6 and “Bad Romance” at #22. Other acts with tracks in the top 25 include Coldplay, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, the Fray and Owl City. All of the top 25 tracks were released in the past five years (Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” is the newest at #10) except for one: “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Classic rockers Journey undoubtedly have “The Sopranos” and “Glee” to thank for renewed interest in the unstoppable song, first recorded in 1981, which landed at #21. In 2006, Apple gave a gift card, 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB iPods and a music-school scholarship set up in the winner’s name to the person who purchased the 1 billionth download. Apple’s iTunes store was known as the iTunes Music Store when it launched less than seven years ago, prior to the addition of videos, movies and TV shows. Onetime MTV News correspondent Iann Robinson helped introduce iTunes in an infomercial that ran in Apple stores and online back in the day. In it, Robinson explained what are now well-known concepts like single-track downloads, full-album purchases, free 30-second previews of songs, burning CDs and transferring to iPods. “These are the people that changed my life with the simple invention of the iPod,” he said in the six-minute-plus video. “Buy a song or a whole album. Either way, you get album art! Awesome!” Related Videos Highlights From iTunes’ Most-Downloaded Songs Of All Time Related Artists Black Eyed Peas Katy Perry Lady Gaga

Hey, Jennifer Lopez, Don’t Let the Door Hit You in the Famous Ass on Your Way Out [Buh-bye]

She hasn’t had a good song or a hit movie in years, and now her record label dropped her and the opening of her new movie has been repeatedly pushed back . It’s official, J to the Lo. You’re done. Her story was always an appealing one. A Latina from the Bronx who started off as a fly girl on In Living Color who pulled herself up by her boob straps and became famous thanks to hard work, talent, and a famous bedonkadonk. She made her splash starring in the Selena biopic, earned critical plaudits for her role in Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight in 1998, and was a box office hit in The Wedding Planner and Maid in Manhattan . Her real downfall, however, was a little thing called Bennifer that was on the cover of every tabloid every week for months in the earlier part of the last decade, kicking off the “let’s combine celebrity couples names into a cute nickname” phenomenon that just won’t die. That wasn’t her first round in the tabloids, of course. After all, she dated Sean Puffy Combs and was embroiled in his “carrying a gun in public” brouhaha, but this time something different. It was all her and Ben Affleck all the time. Everywhere. Every detail of their lives, their courtship, their disgusting togetherness. It just went on and on and on. Then they broke up and dropped the horrible Gigli and The Jersey Girl into our laps. They were the kind of critical and box office turds that, even if you can wash the actual filth of them off, the stink is going to follow you around for years. Starting then, we were no longer fooled by the rocks that she got, and it was a quick nose dive. Other than when she tortured LL Cool J with some weird za za za za sounds, her albums were so forgettable, we don’t even remember them coming out (however, her single “Louboutins” was so horrible we will never forget to hate it and it did produce one unforgettable fall at the AMAs). And her movies? Turkeys all. Monster-In-Law was so-so, but Shall We Dance , An Unfinished Life , and El Cantante , her salsa vanity project with now husband Marc Anthony , were all travesties. And if the release date shuffle is any indication The Back-Up Plan is going to be no saving grace either. So, sorry, Ms. Lopez, we’re through with you. You can’t sell a track and you can’t open a film. Also, you’re bland, boring, and otherwise not as talented as plenty of the other people who are competing for our ever-diminishing attention. We’re not going to care about your movies or songs. We’re not going to read about your babies or break-ups. We’re not doing to follow the “10 Steps to JLo’s Butt” article in Shape . You’re over. We are taking away your star status. You can go ahead and continue selling your horrible perfume(s) and a bunch of crazy diehard fans will lap it up and still love you. As far as the rest of us goes, you’re through. I’d like to say it’s been fun, but it really never has been. And I’m pretty glad that it’s over. [ Image via Getty ]

More Adventures in Olympic Racial Drag

We finally figured out why the Russian ice dancers thought they could get away with their brownface ” Aboriginal Dance ” routine. It’s because this year, all the ice dancers were doing racial drag. It all started when ” the International Skating Union decreed the original dance would be performed to folk music this season .” Consequently, last night’s competition saw Italians clicking castanets, a Scottish duo in cowboy hats, and Russians in loincloths. Whereas Russian duo Domnina and Shabalin drew outcry with their warpaint-slathered didgeridoo routine , Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White are receiving multicultural accolades for a Bollywood routine that has Meryl sporting bindi and a modified sari. It’s a hit in India , and Indian-Americans are apparently down with it, too. How did their racial drag avoid Domnina and Shabalin’s pitfalls? Davis and White didn’t look like total asses. In fact, they looked pretty good! According to NBC , Davis and White studied dance with an ex-Bollywooder who now runs a dance studio called BollyFit in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Costume materials came from “an authentic Indian clothing store.” Said Davis, “It was very important for us to do research and do the theme justice.” India, like America, is in the cultural export business, so imitation comes across as flattery instead of mockery. By contrast, Domnina and Shabalin chose a culture where dance is often tied to sacred rituals , and rarely shared with outsiders. No brown face. As Domnina and Shabalin discovered, donning a dark mahogany skin suit to camouflage one’s pale white skin is kind of a mood killer. To appease their critics, Domnina and Shabalin ditched the brown face, but not much else for Sunday night’s “folk dance” : On a different note: Did you know the Dixie Chicks and Johnny Cash are the foundation of “American cowboy folk dance”? Here’s a Scottish duo doing Johnny: Ice dancing: One anthropological revelation after another. Akon Says He Can Retire, Thanks To Lady Gaga

‘She was definitely a blessing. She came at the right moment,’ singer/producer says of signing the superstar to a record deal. By Hillary Crosley Akon and Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Akon is releasing a new album this year, but the singer seems more excited about his Kon Live imprint artist Lady Gaga’s success than his own. “She’s pretty much retired me,” Akon told The Associated Press . “She was definitely a blessing. She came at the right moment. I’m glad I believed in her, boy. That goes to show you, if you believe in something strong enough, it will pay off.” Lady Gaga was initially signed to Def Jam Records, where she was dropped several months later. Then Akon signed her as a free agent as he was finalizing his Kon Live deal with Interscope Records and label head Jimmy Iovine. Fast-forward a few years and Lady Gaga has become an internationally known pop star, winning two awards at the 2010 Grammys : Best Dance Recording for “Poker Face” and Best Electronic/Dance Album for The Fame. The singer recently swept the Brit Awards in London, where she performed a tribute to recently deceased designer Alexander McQueen and walked away with three awards. “She just blossomed into a super megastar,” said Akon. As for his own upcoming album, Akon says that in addition to Lady Gaga, he’s also working with Dutch dance DJ/producer Chuckie, DJ David Guetta, who recently collaborated with Akon on “Sexy Bitch,” and hip-hop heavyweight Dr. Dre. “You’ve got some straight hard-core hip-hop guys actually moving into the dance realm,” Akon said. “And that’s shocking. When you’ve got someone like Dr. Dre about to do a dance record … that’s crazy.” Akon didn’t divulge much about the Dr. Dre collaboration, except to say the record “actually sounds great. He played it for me. I was shocked. So I was like, ‘Wow, that’s dope. When the world hears this, they might go crazy.’ … When you’ve got the two worlds mixed together, clashing, it’s going to be a monster.” Akon’s as-yet-untitled forthcoming CD is slated to hit shelves toward the end of 2010. Selena Gomez Starstruck By Shakira On ‘Wizards Of Waverly Place’

‘I wasn’t even about to attempt her dance moves,’ Selena Gomez joked about Shakira’s cameo. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News Selena Gomez is growing up. And the same can be said of her onscreen persona on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” Alex Russo. Gomez revealed that as the show progresses, it only makes sense to have the tone of the show itself grow up a little bit. ” ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ is getting much more mature in terms of our comedy, [but] we are still keeping the youthfulness of our characters,” she told MTV News. “I just feel like we’re all kind of growing, so the characters are evolving.” And the more mature comedy on the show isn’t the only thing that Gomez is looking forward to. “As far as anything else exciting coming up, we have a couple of episodes … we have the Shakira episode coming up,” she said, adding, “And I think we have another hour-long special as well.” While she didn’t reveal much about the plot of the episode starring Shakira, she does say that the two will share a duet. But if you want to know what song they sing together, you’ll have to tune in. “The Shakira episode was so much fun. I’m not sure I can reveal too much. I just know that she had a very big part in it and I was just starstruck the entire time,” she said. “I also felt like I needed to work out after I was next to her because she’s gorgeous. She was really nice and she was really funny. So the role was her playing herself, obviously, and I got to sing a song with her as well.” So did Gomez prove that her hips don’t lie by dancing with Shakira? “No! I wasn’t even about to attempt her dance moves,” she laughed. “There’s no way I would be that skilled.”
