As Adele marks one year on the Billboard charts, we look at 21 amazing facts about the equally amazing 21. Though, considering that Adele has sold more than 6 million copies of her breakthrough album 21 since its U.S. release one year ago this week, trust us, paper is the one thing the Grammy-winning British songbird has plenty of. What she’s also racked up over the past 52 weeks is a gang of awards, records and amazing feats of music industry daring that most people thought just weren’t possible in the download era. So, on the anniversary of the unstoppable album’s chart debut, we thought we’d take a look back at the year that was, with 21 amazing facts about 21 . 1. In February 2011, 21 debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with first-week sales of 352,000 copies. It stayed in the top three for 24 consecutive weeks and has never fallen out of the top 10 since its release. 2. In the year since its release, 21 ‘s lowest chart position was #7, in November 2011. The following week, it was back at #2, and it hasn’t left the top three since. 3. With her , Adele has broken the record previously held by the late Whitney Houston ‘s soundtrack to “The Bodyguard” by notching 21 non-consecutive weeks at #1. 4. The album’s 21 weeks atop the chart also mean that it spent a staggering 40 percent of the past year as the country’s #1 album. 5. 21 was not only the best-selling album of 2011 in the U.S. — with sales of more than 5.8 million — it’s also the best-selling digital album of all time in this country, racking up more than 2 million downloads to date. 6. The album debuted at #1 in the U.K. upon its release on January 30, 2011, and held that spot for four weeks. After she sang “Someone Like You” on the BRIT Awards telecast, sales increased by nearly 900 percent on Amazon.co.uk within an hour of her performance. She also set a Guinness World Record in September 2011 by becoming the first female artist to have two singles and two albums in the U.K. top five simultaneously. 7. 21 was also the best-selling album of the 21st century in the U.K., passing Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black. 8. 21 has topped the charts in 27 different countries, including Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, Poland and Greece, and has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide. 9. Then they introduced us to the wiggle. And for their latest video , for the club-thumping track “Sorry for Party Rocking,” the guys of LMFAO are throwing the ultimate cartoon-like house party. The clip, which premiered Monday night, opens with an older couple (played by LMFAO’s Sky Blu and RedFoo) arguing over the ruckus of a nearby house party, hosted by LMFAO’s very own Sky and Red. When the older gentleman makes his way over to the party to complain, he gets the door slammed in his face. Inside the party, the guys and their colorful crew are wearing their animal-print and neon-colored clothes, dancing and drinking the night away. When they refuse to shut down the party, the older man calls the police. But instead of shutting it down, they join the madness. So does everyone else: from pizza delivery guys and sexy nurses to truck drivers and David Hasselhoff (who appeared with the guys onstage during their 2011 American Music Awards performance). And, while the older man is trying to shut the party down, he finds his wife inside enjoying the festivities. Who could not be charmed by a house party thrown by Red and Sky? As the video begins to come to a close, RedFoo falls over from all the good times. When he is whisked away by an ambulance, he drops his phone, which is later picked up by someone who begins to party rock to “Anthem.” Christopher “Kid” Reid (from Kid’N’Play , who know a thing or two about house parties) arrives at the scene as the party seems to be winding down to complain about all the noise. In the final seconds, the video very quickly references the hospital scene that opens the group’s very memorable “Party Rock Anthem” video , where they fought off a zombie-like dancing epidemic. Perhaps this party had something to do with the origins of the plague in that video. Directed by Mickey Finnegan (who directed “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I Know It” as well as clips for Cee Lo Green and Soulja Boy), the whole video takes place in a world made up of cardboard cutouts and animations, making it a surreal escape. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Taylor Swift Photo: Getty Images Taylor Swift will launch the next leg of her highly successful Speak Now Tour next month, and she’s excited by all the possibilities the trek will bring this time around. “We’re going to Australia and New Zealand, because we are never done touring,” she joked to MTV News during “MTV First: Taylor Swift,” when she premiered her new video for the “Hunger Games” track “Safe & Sound.” “I’m really excited about going back to Australia and New Zealand because, well, New Zealand, it’s the first time I’ve ever been there, and the Australian fans have been so good to me,” she continued. “And this will be my third time going back there. I loved this show so much, the Speak Now Tour, that I didn’t necessarily want to put it down. I hope they like it. I love going there. It’s always really wonderful. The people are so nice.” The last time she hit the road, she was joined by a laundry list of A-listers, including T.I. , Flo Rida, Usher and Paramore leading lady Hayley Williams, to name a few. And she still can’t believe all those people agreed to perform with her. “It’s been crazy. Between all the guest artists that have come out and come onstage and surprised the audience, that was, I think, my favorite part of touring this year, because the audience never knew what they were going to get,” she said. “And I loved that experience, and even walking around L.A., people come up to me, these girls will come up to me [like] ‘I was at the Staples show where Justin Bieber came out’ [or] ‘I was at the one where Ellen and Nicki Minaj came out,’ and it’s just really fun, because you start to realize that concert meant something to them, and that’s nice.” Not only did all those famous faces perform with Swift, but she also had one of the top-grossing tours of the year . “That’s the fans doing that,” she said. “I’m kind of blown away by that.” Did you check out the Speak Now Tour? Producer RedOne opens up to MTV News about recording session. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kara Warner Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images Justin Bieber might be singing hooks like a G6 in the very near future. Super-producer RedOne told MTV News that he recently hit the studio with the teen star, and it involved dance-floor phenoms Far East Movement . “The Bieber thing, I don’t know if I’m allowed to mention it right now, but … I did a few songs with Far East Movement, and one of the songs … to me, it’s a smash,” he told us in his Los Angeles-area recording studio. “And Justin sang the chorus. It’s a really good song, and I think people are gonna dance like crazy to it.” While any other details about the project are top-secret, Red did praise the 17-year-old’s work ethic, maturity and musicality. “He’s very positive and he’s an amazing singer,” he said. “Amazing everything! He’s Justin Bieber. He’s a sensation. I think he’s becoming a man with his voice. He’s an incredible singer. So it’s not just the dance or the looks or the ‘Justin’ factor. He’s a real singer musician … He’s a real artist.” Currently, Bieber is busy recording his 2012 release, Believe, and there’s a chance RedOne could be involved in the album. But it will only happen if the twosome can cook up a choice track. “We’re trying to figure out some smashes together for his album,” he said. With RedOne’s part on the album still up in the air, there are plenty of other folks onboard with Bieber for the release, including producers Pharrell, Timbaland and will.i.am and rappers Drake and Lil Wayne .
