Dance Like Diddy: 8 Times Puffy Made Us Want To Dance With Him

Original post:

Source: Natt Lim / Getty Diddy may have changed his name several times over the years, but a couple of things about him have remained the same: his bank account, and his ability to dance like no one is watching . Puff, a.k.a. Brother Love, a.k.a. Puff Daddy, b.k.a. Diddy used to be a backup dancer for Big Daddy Kane and Heavy D back in the late 80’s and early 90’s before anyone knew who Sean Combs was. His demanding personality, undeniable confidence and his ability to dance to the beat of his own drum — unapologetically — made everyone want to “Dance Like Diddy” back in the day. He even gave us a little taste of it on Halloween: Who's afraid of clowns??? pic.twitter.com/wZXaINKVzh — Diddy (@Diddy) November 1, 2018 Diddy’s dancing is so infamous that different variations of it has serviced many times over the years. Let’s not act like the Schmoney Dance isn’t a millennial version of the Diddy bop.   And his iconic moves in “Special Delivery” have made their way back in to the front of the culture, thanks to Lil Wayne and Swizz Beatz’ “Uproar” song and the dance challenge that accompanies it. The energy is amazing pic.twitter.com/ZjXPAzyo8h — The Lunch Table Blog Show LLC (@TLTBlogShow) October 23, 2018 Let’s not forget that his initial reaction to being scared by a clown on Ellen was to hit the Michael Jackson “Beat It” dance. Diddy’s so good at dancing that both of his sons, Christian and Justin Combs, have low key followed in his footsteps . You can’t go on the ‘gram these days without seeing at least one video of them doing their best Harlem Shake and stuntin’ like their dancing daddy. Brother Love turns 49-years old today and it’s only right that we acknowledge one of his many — and probably his favorite — talent that he’s shown to us over the years. Hit the flip to check out all the time Puff made us want to Dance Like Diddy.

Source: NurPhoto / Getty Tis’ the season to hit up your alma mater and turn up with your peers like you’re in undergrad all over again. Homecoming is one of the few times in your adult life where you get to experience the nostalgia of being a college student again — minus the classes and homework. The best part about homecoming, besides partying with old friends, is the halftime show at the football game.   Sure, most guys come to see their take home the W, but men and women alike come to see the dance squads do their thing. Especially when it comes to HBCU’s. The Majorette’s dance segment is like a party in itself. STINGETTES! STINGETTES! STINGETTES! These girls are not playing at the Magic City Classic this year! Slaying and giving us all type of BGM pic.twitter.com/v8RV3aE0oa — HBCU SpotlightTV (@HBCUSpotlightTV) October 28, 2017 The performances are so powerful and essential to the culture that even Beyoncé was inspired by whole experience  so much so that she based her entire Coachella, post-babies, comeback performance on it. Her J-Setting, prancing and stepping was all the way on point. One fan tweeted , “ @Beyonce gave us a HBCU homecoming performance, just so y’all know. I mean the whole homecoming. Step show. Band. Dance. Concert. I’m telling you. You better do your research and then enroll! You won’t regret it.” And unlike some stars who steal from the lesser known without any form of compensation, Bey gave away 100,000 worth of scholarships to HBCU students . Some fans even joked that the Queen Bey didn’t get to live out her dream of being the HBCU dance team captain because she had to be Beyoncé. Whether that’s facts or not, we don’t know —but what we do know is that the power of the HBCU band dancers is not to be underestimated. From the outfits, to the music selections to the flawless routines, band majorettes are and integral part of not only the Black college experience, but Black culture as a whole. In honor of Homecoming season, check out these five HBCU dance teams that get the crowd so lit, every game feels like Homecoming. Did your school make the cut?

QUIZ: Guess These Viral Dances And We’ll Tell You If You’re Young & Lit — Or Old & Out Of Touch

Read this article:

Source: GRIFF TAPPER / Getty As the holiday season rapidly approaches, it’s pretty normal that people start to contemplate the year ahead of them, and the one they’re leaving behind.   For millennials especially, this time of year always sparks the nostalgia of getting ready to head back to school when you were younger or preparing your Halloween costume to go trick or treating with your friends in the neighborhood. But sorry Gen Y’ers —we’re getting old.   Not that it’s a bad thing, but we’re no longer the cool, young kids that big brands market to or the ones on social media kicking off all the latest dance crazes. Now you’re the one on Youtube wondering “how do these kids even come up with this?” Generation Z slowly crept their way into taking over society. Whether it be through they’re unorthodox sound in music and pushing out tons of original content, or using the power of social media to create a brand for themselves before some of them even really knew what it mean to be a brand. According to Vision Critical , “As the first true digital natives, Gen Z basically grew up with YouTube. That has an impact on how they view celebrities and who they consider to be influential. In fact, according to an infographic from Dana Communications, an overwhelming majority (67 percent) of Gen Zers prefer to see real people in ads, whereas only 37 percent of Millennials feel the same.” But don’t go throwing the rest of your 20’s away just yet. There are many perks to aging out of the youngin’ party. You get to tell younger people “You don’t know nothing about this” when a oldie but goodie comes on. And instead of spending money to flex on social media for people you don’t like anyway, you invest it in to something meaningful — like home decor.   One Twitter user tweeted , “Know im getting old man headed to home decor stores comparing prices and sh*t. interior decorating a** n***a.” Another wrote , “I know I’m getting old cause I ordered a chair on amazon and im geekin for it to get here next week!!!!!!…..It’s a f**kin chair.” Becoming an adult happens so quickly that you don’t usually realized you’re aging out of the young crowd until there’s a new hot trend that you either have no clue about, no clue how to do or no interest in learning. Like the new dance crazes for example. All the little dances these kids do now I can’t keep up! I told my daughter to floss (her teeth) and she said “ok Mommy” and started to floss (the dance) — Shannon Toon (@Gumibear3113) September 1, 2018 So are you aging out of young and cool, or are you still keeping up with kids? We live in a world where hot cam girls post pics of butt plugs in their ass on TWITTER… What the hell do we need an instagram influencer that really has no influence…but that calls herself an influencer…because she’s got pervert followers into her bikini pics… But America has their priorities all fucked up and confused, focused on things that don’t matter, fighting over a government that no matter what side you are on are taxing crooks out to fuck you over and benefit themselves… Like overthrow the government, collectively stop paying taxes, instead of waiting around to see who raped who in the 80s when getting a girl drunk to fuck was considered foreplay…get a fucking grip… So America, instead of celebrating the cam girl with her buttplug in her ass, because that’s porno, on twitter, publicly traded PORNO… Are casting these bolt on tits for their dance show in hopes that some of her fans, who actually don’t give a fuck about her, will tune in and watch her dance… This is their attempt to go viral, her attempt to go legit, when all she is is a cam girl who should be putting buttplugs in her ass on twitter…cuz that’ll get you banned off instagram…. She has a lot of followers, they just don’t give a fuck about her, hence why she barely matters…we just like seeing her half naked…so here she is half naked…and retarded looking, fetal alcohol syndrome looking, dopey eyed looking…. Some influencers have influence. People care. Most are just followed cuz they get naked. Figure it out ABC…you’re a billion dollar company hire some people who can figure these things out for you…fucking as retarded as Alexis Ren’s retarded looking eyes. Source: Dave Kotinsky / Getty After years of frustration and anticipation, Lil Wayne finally dropped Tha Carter V on Friday. Of course, fans made their opinions known on Twitter, but one song in particular is bringing the nostalgia and I’m not talking about 2008 “A Milli” feels. I’m talking way back to 2002 when G. Dep dropped his Bad Boy Records banger “Special Delivery.” Wayne sampled the song on the third track from  The Carter V called “Uproar.” “Special Delivery” was released as a single from G. Dep’s debut album Child of the Ghetto.  The music video was notable for featuring the popular dance The Harlem Shake. Kids from the clip showed off their shoulder action and soon a dance that was once known as a New York style was spread across the world.   When listeners heard Lil Wayne’s “Uproar” they couldn’t help but take it back to the early 2000s. An #UproarChallenge even started gaining traction on social media. Just take it from @based_soc  on Instagram.   G. Dep had previously featured the dance in the music video for his debut single “Let’s Get It,” but with “Special Delivery” the moves were cemented in music culture. Artists were using the dance left and right for their music videos or performances, including Bow Wow for his 2002 music video “Take Ya Home.” Years later, The Harlem Shake would surge in popularity again, but unfortunately it was due to the electronic music producer Baauer , and the dance that came from his song had nothing to do with the moves from Harlem. The backlash from Harlem and people familiar with the original dance caused the media to revisit the history of the moves. According to DNAinfo.com , The Harlem Shake was created back in the 1980s by a Harlem resident named Albert Leopold Boyce a.k.a. “Al B.” According to his mom, Al B. would perform the dance at the Entertainer’s Basketball Classic tournament in Harlem’s Rucker Park. Ironically, Al B. had an alcohol problem, so his gyrating moves that would become known as The Harlem Shake probably had something to do with his public intoxication. But no matter how the dance came about, the community took hold of the moves dubbing it the “Al B.” Decades later, shakers around the world are re-inspired thanks to Wayne’s “Uproar.” Hit the next pages to check out more dancers showing off their revived Harlem Shake!

Fresh Prince Of Moves: The Best Videos From The #ICarlton Dance Challenge

More:

Source: NBC / Getty Can you believe that Carlton, er, Alfonso Ribeiro turns 47 years old today?   It seems like just yesterday we were laughing out loud at him as Will Smith ‘s corny, bougie cousin on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — well, for some it was yesterday.   Alfonso has been in the business since he was a kid, but his role as Carlton Banks is what he’ll forever be remembered by.   He played Carlton so well that that’s pretty much all the younger generation knows him as, thanks to his infamous “Carlton Dance.” The Williams Family dance crew loves Carlton Banks so much that they kicked off a whole dance challenge in honor of him, called the #ICarlton Challenge. They killed it! And pretty soon, the rest of the dance world caught on. Like Fresh The Clowns crew.   Even moms in dance class took on the hip hop challenge. Not bad for ladies with babies in their arms.   It hit Korea too.   And it made the news.   But according to Instagramer Anti , he’s the creator of the #ICarlton song and challenge and wants the world to put some respeck on ’em. He even made a music video for it.   Anti may have created the song, but no word on who actually started the dance challenge. It’s still poppin all over the world now though.   We all know that once Wiz The Kid gets a whole of it, issa wrap for the rest of the dance world.   Hit the flip to check out more. via GIPHY
