Source: Chris Hondros / Getty When it comes to dancing, people tend to sleep on the guys compared to the ladies. Sure, there are famous dancers like Usher and IG stars like Kida The Great who can out dance a lot of your favorite performers — but the women have been holding it down since rhythm was discovered. But don’t hit the snooze on the mens just yet. Internet sensation Aggie The Dance Queen and her “Turnup Travel” team kicked off a rooftop dance challenge last month for their Narobi IG Tour, and challenged the men to compete against her and her lady friends. To the surprise of many, not only did the guys nail it —they low key gave more energy than the ladies. Once upon a time on August 11th, @aggiedancequeen challenged us to a rooftop dance-off during #NairobaeIGTour 4.0 The boys need to lick their wounds and go back to the drawing board. Move over, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Jen Harley . Two new combatants stepped into the figurative ring on Thursday night, as Jersey Shore: Family vacation featured yet another ugly confrontation between cast members. A week after Angelina Pivarnick arrived in Las Vegas , due to an invitation by MTV producers Snooki, the tension between this former regular and Jenni “JWOWW” Farley reached record levels. And it was largely because Angelina tried to make nice with JWOWW. Well, it was really because Angelina referred to JWOWW as a “Jersey Whore” back in May, but Jenni warned her foe last night that if she just kept her distance, everything would be okay. Angelina failed to heed this advice, however. Jenni tried to simply steer clear of Angelina, who she said was “like a pet you don’t really want.” When the group went down to the pool, for example, JWOWW refused to clink glasses with Angelina during a toast, thinking that ignoring her rival would basically make her go away. But it had the opposite effect. It turned Angelina into an irritating pest. “Why would she all of a sudden say cheers to me?” Jenni asked Nicole. “I’m just trying to f-cking enjoy my last couple of days,” she added. “I’m a mom now. If I’m gonna be getting bullied and dumb shit, I’m out.” It was clear that the situation was merely escalating with every passing moment. At one point, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino warned Angelina to “proceed with caution” when it came to her relationship with Jenni (he should know… remember when she punched him?), but Angelina continued to do annoy JWOWW. In a cab on the way to the club that evening, Snooki tried to get Angelina to apologize to Jenni for the whore comment. But… “You were acting like a f-cking whore,” she told JWOWW. When Nicole reprimanded her for repeating the insult, Angelina replied: “Not a whore like that, you ass! Like a freaking bitch. You were acting like a bitch!” Jenni then tried to explain to Angelina that there was a difference between a “whore” and a “bitch,” but it fell on deaf ears. “It’s obvious that Jenni still has resentment towards me, and I’m to blame a little bit, but I’m trying genuinely to be friends with her and maybe we can squash this eventually?” Angelina said. Then, naturally, she attempted to sit on Jenni’s lap and dance with her at the club. Bad move there, Angelina. “I just want to party and let loose and have fun, and she’s just not having it,” Angelina said. “I don’t know if my approach is wrong, but I’m trying.” (Editor’s Note: We knew. Everyone there knew. You’re approach was definitely wrong.) Continuing down the clearly wrong path, Angelina tried to drop some ice down Jenni’s shirt while at the club, a so-called prank that only served to anger the star. “Don’t touch me!” Jenni boomed “You’re out of your damn mind! What is wrong with you? Stop. Stop, or I will f-ck you up!” “I don’t know what Angelina’s thinking messing with Jenni,” Ronnie said hilariously, referring to Jenni’s husband and adding: “Roger don’t even do that yet, and he’s been married to her for eight years!” This was a lesson Angelina did not learn, however, which is how she ended up scuffling with JWOWW on the dance floor and getting caught in a headlock. Angelina eventually squirmed her way out of Jenni’s grip and slapped her in the face with the back of her hand. View Slideshow: Jersey Shore: Relive the Show’s Most Iconic, OMFG Moments! “Bring me home, or I’m gonna go to jail,” JWOWW said to The Situation, apparently convinced she broke the law. Finally, to close out yet another violent and intense episode, Jenni told everyone at dinner the next night that she was going home early.
Source: Bob King / Getty If you’re a Michael Jackson fan, nine times out of ten you’ve tried the moonwalk in the comfort of your solitude. Though the concept of the dance seems simple, it’s definitely no easy task. Michael Jackson first performed the dance on TV for the special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, which aired on NBC on May 16, 1983, according to Billboard . However, it’s pretty well known that M.J. didn’t invent the moonwalk and up until his performance, it wasn’t really known by that name. Dancer Jeffrey Daniel notably performed the move on the U.K. show Top of the Pops in 1982 and back then, it was known as the “backslide.” Peep the moves around the 1:58 mark below! Even before Jeffrey’s performance, poppers and b-boy dancers were known to do the dance in city streets and clubs. Mr. Freeze of the influential Rock Steady b-boy crew even did the moves in a scene from Flashdance , which was released on April 15, 1983. Check out his variation of the backslide around the 0:25 mark below! A recorded variation of the backslide can also be found from the 1950s thanks to dancer Bill Bailey … (2:04 mark) Despite who “created” the “backslide” or the “moonwalk,” there’s no question that M.J. popularized the move and turned it into a global phenomenon. According to Yahoo , Michael wasn’t specific on who taught him the dance (and there’s still much debate about this), but he still gave credit to the streets in his 1988 memoir Moonwalker. “I would finally do the Moonwalk in public on Motown 25. Now the Moonwalk was already out on the street by this time, but I enhanced it a little when I did it. It was born as a breakdance step, a ‘popping’ type of thing that black kids had created dancing on the street corners in the ghetto…So I said, ‘This is my chance to do it,’ and I did it. These three kids taught it to me.” Since Michael showed off his skills to the world, countless folks have tried the iconic footwork — from eager fans to talented celebrities. Unfortunately, on the celebrity side, it hasn’t been all success. In honor of Michael Jackson’s 60th birthday, check out some stars who nailed the dance as well as others who were not so smooth.
Are you ready for a new beginning? MTV surely is. And the network is hoping viewers feel the same way. On Sunday night, not long after Spencer Pratt and company came together on the red carpet of the MTV Video Music Awards for a reunion photo, MTV made the announcement many had been waiting to hear for months: THE HILLS IS COMING BACK! As you can see above, Spencer and Heidi Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Jason Wahler, Justin Bobby, Stephanie Pratt and Frankie Delgado all showed up for the annual awards ceremony, causing some fans to think this mere red carpet gathering would be the only reunion they'd see for awhile. But they were sorely (and awesomely?) mistaken. Midway through the VMAs, MTV ran the promo featured here. It teased a revival of the former reality series that will apparently be titled The Hills: New Beginnings . And why not, we guess, right?!? Last Man Standing is coming back this fall. So is Murphy Brown. Netflix has found success with Fuller House and MTV itself has found enormous success with Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. So … why not The Hills? According to a network press release, this new version of The Hills will reunite original cast members, alongside their kids, friends and returning favorites, while following their personal and professional lives while living in Los Angeles. It is scheduled to premiere in 2019. In the first preview for the program, footage of Los Angeles plays as Stephanie is heard saying, “It’s like we’re all growing up. It’s weird.” That's not really weird. That's sort of just how life works. But Heidi and Spencer have a son now and that is really weird! Only one question now remains: Will Lauren Conrad appear on the reboot? It doesn't sound that way. “I don’t think I would do another show that involved my family,” Conrad told HuffPost earlier this year, adding: “I spent a lot of years on a show focused on my personal life, so I don’t think I’d do it again.” Oh well. We're still all in on a The Hills reboot. How about you?!?
The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards proved that both Jennifer Lopez and Madonna pretty much never age or change. The former was honored with a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony and also put on an incredible performance that showed off her dance moves and her ridiculous body. The latter, meanwhile, stood on stage and was tasked with paying tribute to Aretha Franklin, the truly legendary singer who passed away last week from cancer . But most viewers think she made this tribute all about herself. Following a video of Franklin’s “I Say a Little Prayer” on a big screen, members of the audience – including Lopez and Camila Cabello – were reduced to tears as they remembered the iconic artist. Madonna then spent her segment in front of the crowed rambling on about the impact Franklin had on her career. This maybe, possibly could have worked. Madonna could maybe, possibly have brought everything back around and used her tale as a way to depict the enormous impact Aretha had on the entire music industry. Instead, though, she barely even mentioned Franklin by name. At one point, for example, Madonna shared her experience at an audition where she sang Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” in a last-minute decision after she had failed to bring sheet music or prepare another song. Okay… She explained that she ended up belting out this track “by heart,” acapella. And then said that the two men for whom she was auditioning didn’t believe “some skinny-ass white girl” was going to “[sing] a song by one of the greatest soul singers that ever lived.” No one watching had any idea what this had to do with Franklin herself. It just sounded like Madonna giving herself a great deal of props. Social media was quick to erupt with criticism for the strange, self-serving way in which The Material Girl essentially ignored the entire point of this Franklin tribute. Madonna did end up saying at least a few nice words about Franklin. She concluded her rambling speech as follows: “I want to thank you, Aretha, for empowering all of us. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Long live the queen.” But the damage had already been done. Some folks are even calling for an apology to be issued, as explained by these two individuals on Twitter: I hope the vmas plan to issue a public apology for allowing Madonna to disrespect Aretha Franklin’s legacy like that #VMAs. “I’m so lost. I thought Madonna was supposed to be paying homage to Aretha but I all heard was her paying homage to herself. Come on, you are probably thinking. Could this have been all THAT bad? Welp, we’ve posted snippets of Madonna’s speech below. Go ahead and find out for yourself! Madonna: Slammed for This Aretha Franklin Tribute
Source: Bryan Bedder / Getty Celebrity women like Serena Williams, Beyonce, Chrissy Teigen, Cardi B and Tia Mowry are finally keeping it real about how hard pregnancy and postpartum life can be for a lot of women. Imagine being in control of yourself your entire life then suddenly, nothing is how you had expected. You don’t feel like yourself or think like yourself. It’s like an out-of-body experience. Add the fact that you are responsible for another little life, and that is a recipe for a breakdown. Why didn’t our mother’s warn us? I identify with Serena Williams the most because she has always been a friend in my head plus, I’m also an athlete. I ran track as a child, grew up dancing with a performance troupe, danced all the way to adulthood, and also picked up pole dancing and aerial hoop habits. It’s obviously not tennis and I’m definitely no Serena Williams, but I was fit and dexterous before pregnancy, and I thought bouncing back would be a breeze because I had a smooth pregnancy through which I still worked out without complications. I seriously thought I’d be able to get back to my regularly scheduled program in terms of work, my body bouncing back, and balancing the new life I was responsible for with everything else in 6-weeks post birth because I was good at planning and executing my goals. It worked with my career and it worked with my hobbies, so why not my life as a working mom? That was extremely naive, but in a world where overachieving is the thing to do to the point where we sometimes get unrealistic and don’t allow room for going with the flow, I just didn’t create space in my brain for anything less than optimal results right away. My ego was dealt a devastating blow after attempting to work out following my 6-week doctor clearance was struggle city. My abdomen still felt like jelly and my joints were freakishly unstable. How could I not do my usual HIIT workout? It was all I knew. What about muscle memory? How could my body betray me like this? But it did and I was furious. I couldn’t resume working out the way I wanted to and developed back pain serious enough to have to visit a chiropractor multiple times. I was forced to take my time easing back into it, which was depressing. I started with lightweight workouts geared toward postpartum women , but it wasn’t until 6 months postpartum that I finally felt comfortable enough to get back into the dance classes, pilates, and HIIT that I loved and I still had to modify certain moves at times. In addition to all of the above, I still had career goals that I planned to accomplish but it took me months to mentally get back into a space where I wanted to think about work, and actually figured out a new rhythm with my baby. I’m two years postpartum, and while I am psychologically okay most of the time, my body is just now starting to feel like it can do the things that it used to. I’m at 90% and I don’t know that the extra 10% will ever come. I’m still getting used to my new normal. I still feel guilty about having ambitions outside of family, but at the same time, while I love my daughter, I understand that I also need to cultivate my career and personal interests in order to feel sane. In hindsight, I beat myself up for things I couldn’t control during a time when it’s important to take it easy. Sure, women have been having babies since forever, which is why people downplay the severity of giving birth and take the healing process for granted, but it’s always a big deal. Your body has gone through a major shift that can be traumatic in some cases (broken pelvis, weak pelvic floor, etc), and healing time varies. A lot of us try to do the most too fast like it’s a competition to see who can bounce back the fastest and we really just need to sit down, relax and nourish our bodies and spirits as much as we can because anything else does more harm than good. Postpartum life has a way of humbling you and Serena Williams is proof. We noticed that she hadn’t been playing tennis as fiercely as we knew she could and she eventually pulled out of the Rogers Cup, which wasn’t a surprise. If you read her now blown up Instagram post about how she has been feeling, then you understand what she’s going through. It’s hard for ambitious moms to take a break, but what matters most is that she listened to her body, her intuition, and her mom tribe, and did what was best for herself and family. She’ll be back when she’s really ready and there’s no time that anyone can put on it. The body knows and communicates what it needs, and patience is all that is necessary. A rare sect of women may actually be able to get back to business in a week or two, some women have no choice but to jump back into the fray immediately (because maternity leave in the United States is trash), but most women aren’t ready to resume daily activities and unfortunately, that’s something that we don’t talk about enough or lie about too often. It’s okay to not feel okay as long as you’re working toward healing (I still need to take my own advice on that) and it’s okay if it doesn’t happen right away. Everyone’s postpartum journey is different, but it’s time for all of us overachievers to surrender to the process as individuals and stop trying to live up to ridiculous standards. Selena Gomez is so much more than the queen of Instagram . In the video that we have included with this post, Selena confirms that her new album is in the works, though it's not quite finished yet. She even teases some details about her new songs. This is, if you'll pardon our pun, music to the ears of fans. Across multiple videos on Instagram, including some guest appearances with friends, Selena confirmed that she's working on a new album. This will be a follow-up to Revival , which debuted in 2015. Selena teases a few details about the nature of the album. “It’s very honest,” Selena says. “But playful.” “And,” Selena continues. “I felt like creatively it is in a really great direction,” Selena discusses the inspiration for this album. “I just wanted it to feel like what is going on in my head,” she admits. “Which,” Selena admits. “Was a lot.” Revival came on the heels of her revelation that she had been undergoing chemo as part of her battle with Lupus. Since then, Selena has undergone a life-saving kidney transplant. We imagine that she has no shortage of personal inspiration for her music. For many artists, art is how they process and cope. As you will see in the video that we have included, Selena's friend shoots down her efforts to reveal more about the album. The friend even refuses to name a track from it, despite Selena's emphatic permission to do so. “I’m just so anxious because I want to play my music,” Selena admits. Selenators, of course, are also very eager to hear it. Selena tells her fans and followers: “I can’t wait for you guys to hear it.” She is usure of how to describe some of her music without revealing too much. Her friend Raquelle says: “I like the fun ones that we can dance to.” Plenty of Selenators agree, but you don't need to have listened to Selena's new, unfinishe album to know that. That describes a lot of good music that Selena has produced over the years. “I’m just anticipating like what,” Selena says. “I don’t know what people are going to think.” “Like,” Selena says, voicing her concerns. “Do you think they are going to think it is the same thing?” That anxiety sounds very normal for any artist. Obviously, we're all incredibly pumped about Ariana Grande's Sweetener dropping on Thursday night. But contrary to what some hardcore fans — both Selenators and Arianators — seem to believe, it is possible and even ideal to enjoy music by both artists. Selena has dropped a couple of singles since Revival , but as much as we enjoy “Wolves,” having a whole album to consume will be a lot of fun. Selena, who just turned 26 in July, has produced some bops over the years — from “Naturally” to “Stars Dance” to “Kill 'Em With Kindness.” We can barely contain our excitement for whatever she comes up with next. Selena is one of the most talented singers in human history.
Sia is a 42 year old hipster, raver, party girl, electronic music weirdo who has been around for a long fucking time, best known for her solo album and her videos of little girls from Dance Moms dancing creepily, but was previously a songwriter for a bunch of people….her biggest song probably TITANIUM by David Guetta that all kinds of cheesy club bros probably play at pool parties in their short shorts and think is a classic…. I know people like Sia, who are the same age as Sia and who grew up in the electronic music scene doing lots of drugs….I remember raves in the early 90s, and I remember the more sophisticated “acid jazz” music people who would show up at those raves…like SIA… So the happy and sad titty face pic is on the level of obscure you’d expect, but that we collectively can say despite being cheesy reaching try hard even though she’s made it shit, and despite being old tit, it’s still big tits…and that’s the kind of art I can appreciate even if I think all art is bullshit lies… JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES!
