Would Michael Jackson Approve? Celebrity Moonwalks Ranked From Best To Worst

Source: Bob King / Getty If you’re a Michael Jackson fan, nine times out of ten you’ve tried the moonwalk in the comfort of your solitude. Though the concept of the dance seems simple, it’s definitely no easy task. Michael Jackson first performed the dance on TV for the special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever,  which aired on NBC on May 16, 1983, according to Billboard . However, it’s pretty well known that M.J. didn’t invent the moonwalk and up until his performance, it wasn’t really known by that name. Dancer Jeffrey Daniel notably performed the move on the U.K. show Top of the Pops  in 1982 and back then, it was known as the “backslide.” Peep the moves around the 1:58 mark below!   Even before Jeffrey’s performance, poppers and b-boy dancers were known to do the dance in city streets and clubs. Mr. Freeze of the influential Rock Steady b-boy crew even did the moves in a scene from Flashdance , which was released on April 15, 1983. Check out his variation of the backslide around the 0:25 mark below!   A recorded variation of the backslide can also be found from the 1950s thanks to dancer Bill Bailey … (2:04 mark)   Despite who “created” the “backslide” or the “moonwalk,” there’s no question that M.J. popularized the move and turned it into a global phenomenon. According to Yahoo , Michael wasn’t specific on who taught him the dance (and there’s still much debate about this), but he still gave credit to the streets in his 1988 memoir Moonwalker. “I would finally do the Moonwalk in public on  Motown 25. Now the Moonwalk was already out on the street by this time, but I enhanced it a little when I did it. It was born as a breakdance step, a ‘popping’ type of thing that black kids had created dancing on the street corners in the ghetto…So I said, ‘This is my chance to do it,’ and I did it. These three kids taught it to me.”   Since Michael showed off his skills to the world, countless folks have tried the iconic footwork — from eager fans to talented celebrities. Unfortunately, on the celebrity side, it hasn’t been all success. In honor of Michael Jackson’s 60th birthday, check out some stars who nailed the dance as well as others who were not so smooth.

Carter Family Cuteness: Blue And Jay Support As Beyonce Accepts The CFDA Fashion Icon Award

Beyonce And Family Attend CFDA Awards This year’s CFDA award ceremony featured a big surprise, kept tightly under wraps until after the show’s conclusion — Beyonce was honored with the 2016 Fashion Icon Award: While accepting the recognition for her influential style , Bey detailed how her style journey came full circle, from her seamstress grandmother to her aspiring designer mother, and developing a unique style due to lack of style opportunity given a group of young Black singers just starting out: “As long as I can remember, fashion has always been a part of my life. Its effect on me actually started before I was born. Most of you guys don’t know this, but my grandmother was a seamstress…” “When we were starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels, they didn’t want to dress four black, country, curvy girls. And we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams.” “[My mother] designed all of our first costumes and made each piece by hand…putting so much passion and love into every small detail,” she said. “When I wore these clothes on stage I felt like [Game of Thrones’ queen] Khaleesi; I had an extra suit of armor. It was so much deeper than any brand name.” How far she’s come! The songstress arrived to accept her award while rocking a sparkly pinstripe suit, $9 million in Lorraine Schwartz jewels, and the extremely wide-brimmed black hat that’s become synonymous with her Lemonade look: While Jay and Blue rocked black and white looks to support Mama Bey: Hit the flip for more from the Carter family’s arrival to the CFDA Awards, and more of Beyonce’s look for the night… AKM-GSI / Splash / Instagram

Brandi Glanville Posts VERY NSFW Thong Photo on Instagram!

Brandi Glanville is not what you would call the shy type. If you follow her on Instagram you know that Brandi bikini photos are a fairly common occurrence, but nothing that she’s posted in the past could’ve prepared us for this: A word of advice: Don’t click that pic if you’re at work unless your boss is either very understanding or very into MILFs. It’s Ms. Glanville wearing an almost-non-existent thong and though we’ve seen Brandi’s butt many times in the past, this might be her most revealing photo to date. She posted it with the following caption, which – like all things butt-related – includes a shoutout to Butt Queen Kim Kardashian: “I’ve struggled with wanting to post this but I’ve worked so hard on my body & at 43 after 2 kids I’m very proud. I love that @kimkardashian makes the point that moms are hot even after kids and post sexy selfies.” “Ive prepped for the haters & was given the blessing of my family! Zero filters zero photo shop #ankle weights work!” Who’s out there saying moms can’t be sexy?! That’s why the term MILF exists!  Do these people not remember Stifler? Or more importantly, Stifler’s mother? What about that song about Stacy’s mom? She had it going on, if we recall. Sigh. Kids these days with their ageist butt preferences. Anyway, click on the pic above to see Brandi’s mostly naked ass. View Slideshow: 17 Best Celebrity Butts: Badonkadonk Bonanza!

Kim Kardashian Arrives in New Orleans in Wake of Will Smith Murder

Kim Kardashian jumped on an overnight flight from Los Angeles to New Orleans on Monday in order to help comfort the wife of slain ex-football player Will Smith. As previously reported, the former defensive lineman for the Saints was tragically gunned down in the street on Saturday night after he got into a verbal altercation with a fellow driver. Both Will and his wife, Racquel, were shot after a driver rear-ended their vehicle. An argument ensued and police later arrested a man named Cardell Hayes, alleging that he produced a handgun; fatally shot Will multiple times; and also shot Racquel twice in the leg. She was taken to the hospital as soon as authorities arrived and is expected to make a full recovery. Kim, meanwhile, got to know the Smiths back when Will was a teammate of then-boyfriend Reggie Bush. After learning of the terrible news, she shared the following old photo of herself and Racquel and wrote as a caption: “My heart breaks for my sweet friend Rockie. I’m deeply saddened by your loss.” In a subsequent Tweet, the Keeping up with the Kardashians star added: “Sending so many prayers to her & her family! May the Lord surround her & her children with love and protection during this devastating time.” View Slideshow: 12 of the Most Influential Celebrities on the Internet

Kanye West: Down with Money, Up with God!

Kanye West once again has a lot to say. This time, however, those words are far more positive than negative. “This is the people the culture the dreams the future. I promise I will never let the people down. I want a better life for all!!! Pablo Pablo Pablo Pablo!” West Tweeted on Tuesday night, perhaps practicing his stump speech for a 2020 Presidential run . Instead of slamming Taylor Swift or railing against critics of his music, however, Kanye’s latest rant served a mostly inspiration purpose. It still didn’t really make any sense of course. But whatever. Isn’t that one of the reasons why we love Mr. Kim Kardashian ? “I stand with the utmost humility. We are so blessed!!!” West wrote. “All praises and blessings to the families of people who never gave up on dreams. Let’s fight for our future. We can change everything.” Among other messages Kanye passed along in this one-sided conversation: In Roman times the artist would contemplate proportions and colors. Now there is only one important color… Green. We will change that. We will rise. We will have a voice. We will not get bullied by perception any longer. We will give our opinions. We will breathe clean air and exercise the first amendment. We no longer have to be scared of the truth. We will find freedom in truth as opposed to ridicule. Thank God for paps thank God for social media. In the past the press/old guard and powers that be would have silenced me a long time ago but I have a form of social immunity. I represent the dreamers. I speak truth to power!! I have a dream. That dreams will actualize. Dreams will manifest! Everyone has made mistakes. I just make them in public. I love you guys. I have so much love in my heart and we just need the shot to create live breathe. I love you. On another note, I strongly dislike suit jackets. I used the word dislike because I hate the word hate. And I used a period because contrary to popular belief I strongly dislike exclamation points! I used an exclamation just to be an a**hole and also to make a point! LOL. LOL, indeed. Along that acronym’s lines… is Kanye West really smiling in the photo above?!?!?!?!?!? View Slideshow: 12 of the Most Influential Celebrities on the Internet

Black Girls Rock! Malia Obama, Zendaya & Amandla Stenberg Make TIME’s ‘Most Influential Teens’ List

Black girls rock! Malia Obama, Zendaya And Amandla Stenberg Make TIME’s Most Influential Teens List Three beautiful black teens are being honored for their work as positive influences. Malia Obama , Zendaya and Amandla Stenberg have all made TIME’s annual list of “Most Influential Teens” for their “accolades across numerous fields, global impact through social media and overall ability to drive news.” On Malia Obama, 17: A full-fledged cultural icon, whose fashion choices and college visits (most recently, to Brown University) routinely make headlines. On Zendaya, 19: The former Disney Channel star (full name: Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman) has emerged as a champion of body positivity, schooling E!’s Giuliana Rancic earlier this year for mocking Zendaya’s dreadlocks at the Oscars and sharing unretouched versions of a magazine photoshoot with her 14.1 million Instagram followers. On Amandla Stenberg, 17: The actress is best known as Rue from The Hunger Games series—a role that earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination and a Teen Choice Award—but she doesn’t just take part in pop culture, she actively critiques it. Stenberg is unafraid to call out celebrities she thinks are appropriating culture: in July she criticized Kylie Jenner—also on this list—for showing off her cornrows on Instagram but failing to use her “position of power to help black Americans.” Other black teens on the list include Jaden Smith and 13-year-old Mo Bridges of Mo’s Bows. Congrats to these teens! What do YOU think about Malia, Zenday and Amandla making TIME’s influential teens list???
