Black Eyed Peas Give Glow-In-The-Dark AMA Performance

Band gets in on the dance action during a neon-lit rendition of their new tune ‘This Time (The Dirty Bit).’ By James Dinh Black Eyes Peas’ Fergie performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Christopher Polk/AMA2010/Getty Images/DCP If there’s one act who knows just how to get everyone on their feet, it’s the Black Eyed Peas. On Sunday (November 21), the group showed up at the American Music Awards to perform their brand-new single, “This Time (The Dirty Bit),” delivering a flashy, glow-in-the-dark spectacle. Descending from four box chambers, each BEP member remained the focus on the dark stage as will.i.am sang the beginning lines of their new single, which samples the “Dirty Dancing” theme song, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” While the frontman belted his semi-autotuned notes, each of the bandmates rose up and down in their flashing chamber until they reached the floor and emerged to show off futuristic neon outfits. Throughout the song, the quartet crooned to the tune and worked the stage as they displayed some freestyle dancing moves alongside a series of dancers wearing box-shaped headpieces. After the performance ended, will.i.am made sure to plug the release of the Peas’ new album, saying, “November 30, The Beginning . Welcome to the future!” In addition to their neon-lit number, BEP also hit the stage to accept the award for Favorite Band, Duo or Group, beating out Lady Antebellum and Train for the honor. “This Time” is the lead single from the Black Eyed Peas’ upcoming album, The Beginning . The 12-song collection is an ’80s-influenced effort that promises to once again bring listeners to the dance floor. Fans likely will get to see the band on another big stage this February, as it’s been reported that the Black Eyed Peas will descend on Cowboys Stadium in Dallas for the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show . Natalia Kills Hooks Up With Will.i.am For ‘Dark Pop’ Debut

‘We should dance through the feelings, sadness, revenge,’ British singer says of her musical philosophy. By Vaughn Schoonmaker, with reporting by Tim Kash Natalia Kills Photo: MTV News Self-described “dark pop” singer Natalia Kills is not going to let you get away with being shallow on the dance floor. “I don’t want people to just dance to dance music, and the lyrics are about dancing in a club and taking shots,” explained the 24-year-old Brit. Instead, she believes, “We should dance through a breakup. We should dance through the feelings, sadness, revenge.” When she moved to the United States to pursue her music career, Natalia met with producers including Akon and Justin Timberlake before finally teaming up with will.i.am and signing on to Interscope/ Cherrytree Records in 2008. “Will.i.am is crazy!” Kills gushed of the Black Eyed Peas frontman. “He is on a different level to most creative human beings. … When I was in the studio with Will, he showed me, really, that music is about bringing camaraderie and joy and unity between people.” Natalia is currently focused on creating a steady presence in the U.S. and has already been praised by the likes of Perez Hilton. After spending the summer as the opening act for Robyn and Kelis on tour, she says she’s started to develop a great fanbase. While she’ll remain on the road with Robyn through North America and Europe this fall, she’s preparing for the early 2011 release of her debut album, Perfectionist. And she’s already shot a music video for her first single, “Mirrors.” “I would say expect drama,” Natalia warns of her first clip. “Expect a lot of fun.” Related Artists Natalia Kills

Audrina Patridge Is ‘Toning Up’ Thanks To ‘Dancing With The Stars’

‘I’m in the best shape of my life,’ former ‘Hills’ star tells Us Weekly. By Mawuse Ziegbe Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani Photo: ABC Audrina Patridge has always kept a slender figure during her six seasons on MTV’s beachside drama “The Hills,” but she’s really feeling the burn in her latest reality role. Patridge is part of the latest cast of celebs to wiggle into some sequins and twirl around the dance floor on “Dancing With the Stars.” Even though the season has just started, the starlet said working the classic ballroom-dance moves has already paid off. “I would say I’m in the best shape of my life,” Patridge told Us Weekly. “Dancing is so different than going to the gym. I’m going to be so sad when it’s over!” Patridge isn’t swooning because she’s dropping pounds; she’s amped because she’s packing on muscle and scoring major definition. “I feel more toned and more defined, for sure,” she said. “I have maintained my weight, but I’m really, really defining my muscles and toning up,” adding, “I am excited! I have so much energy!” Patridge, who grooved onto the parquet first alongside partner Tony Dovolani on Monday’s season 11 kickoff, might be enjoying her new look but did admit to stressing about breaking in the dance floor. “It was because they didn’t really know what to expect from everyone, so we were the first ones out there setting the standards. But it was so much fun,” Patridge told MTV News of kicking things off Monday. “It was nerve-racking being the first ones out. It was so much fun. Now, I’m more comfortable with the setting and being on set and the live audience. I think it was a good thing, ’cause we went first and got it out of the way and got to relax.” Are you rooting for Audrina on “Dancing With the Stars”? Let us know in the comments!

‘Jersey Shore’ Stars ‘Support’ The Situation On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

‘He can’t really dance, but I know he can fist-pump,’ Sammi tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and his partner Karina Smirnoff on “Dancing With The Stars” Photo: ABC Though Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino was fresh to death on “Dancing With the Stars” — with clean lines in his ‘do and a shiny dress shirt revealing a lot of skin — his dance skills were borderline dead-on-arrival. The “Jersey Shore” star and his partner, Karina Smirnoff, found themselves in a three-way-tie for the lowest score on Monday night’s season premiere. No matter! His reality-show pals have his back. While Sammi and Vinny might not have much faith in his toe-tapping talents, they’re supporting him all the way. “I wish Mike the best of luck with ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ ” Sammi told MTV News shortly before the show went live. “He can’t really dance, but I know he can fist-pump, and I’m sure that Karina is gonna whip some sense into him. So hopefully he does well. I wish him the best of luck. I’m there to support him. I hope he does well.” Sitch certainly tried. Boogying to a version of Taio Cruz’s “Break Your Heart,” he mixed in a few of his time-tested club moves with some ’80s-style shuffling. But the judges were not impressed. “You’ve got the guns, but not the ammunition,” head judge Len Goodman declared. Vinny probably wouldn’t disagree, though he’s pulling for his roommate to make everyone proud. “Situation doesn’t really have dance skills, but that show really isn’t about having dance skills,” he told us. “It’s pretty serious, what they do on it. It’s like real ballroom dancing. If Mike can follow the directions of his partner and he can go to practice every day and get it down — it’s really just how much learning capacity you have. You can be not a good dancer at all, but you can also learn how to do it. “Hopefully he does learn the steps and goes through with it,” he added. “We’ll support him.” Are you pulling for the Situation on “Dancing With the Stars”? James Franco Talks ‘Blurring’ Acting And Reality In ‘127 Hours’

‘The way we approached the performance is authentic,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz James Franco and Danny Boyle Photo: MTV News Toward the end of the exhaustive Moab, Utah, shoot for “127 Hours,” James Franco found himself on the edge of a cliff. Portraying a real-life hiker forced to amputate part of his arm to escape a fallen boulder, Franco was in the midst of repelling down the steep face when he slipped and experienced the terrifying sensation of falling. He was rigged with safety lines, of course, but as the actor himself admitted to MTV News, “I was scared for a second.” The shot actually made it into the film. Again and again throughout the shoot, Franco and director Danny Boyle (“Slumdog Millionaire”) strove for such moments of authenticity. At another point in the shoot, Franco found himself struggling for 15 minutes to tie up a harness with just one hand. “I yelled out a couple times, ‘Eff!’ ” he said. “That was the character and me blurring at that moment. It really showed that the way we approached the performance is authentic on a real level, blurring the line of acting and experiencing.” The entire production was a challenge, but it’s one Boyle always wanted to take on and which, fresh off the Oscar-winning success of “Slumdog,” he was not going to pass up. “We had a small window in which to strike, when people really believe in you,” the director said. “I’d always been fascinated with this idea of trapping someone. In a medium that’s all about movement and change and constant vibration of images, I thought it would be wonderful to challenge that and make an action movie where the hero doesn’t move.” The majority of the film takes place within a tight, rocky crevice, when Franco is pinned in place by the boulder. Only the actor and a cameraman could fit in, and Boyle had to watch from above via a video link. They’d shoot very long takes, as Franco went through a variety of experiences, from desperation to macabre escape. “It wasn’t like we’d cut and ask props to rig a pulley while James relaxes,” Boyle said. “He had to rig it. He had to do everything.” Check out everything we’ve got on “127 Hours.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Emma Stone Talks Justin Timberlake Breakup In ‘Friends With Benefits’

‘I gotta tell you, breaking up with Justin Timberlake is really fun,’ she jokes about upcoming comedy. By Kara Warner Justin Timberlake on the set of “Friends with Benefits” Photo: James Devaney/ WireImage Fresh off the buzz from their charming teen comedy “Easy A,” star Emma Stone and director Will Gluck are already waist-deep into an equally fun-sounding next project called “Friends With Benefits.” The film revolves around two recently dumped individuals, played by Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, who eventually help each other get over their “evil” exes, played by Stone and Andy Samberg. Amid idle chatter about how Stone needed an oxygen tank after filming her fake-sex scene in “Easy A,” she said filming her breakup scene with Timberlake was equally hilarious. “I gotta tell you, breaking up with Justin Timberlake is really fun,” she said. “It’s a feel-good time. He’s such a nice, funny guy. It was really fun. We had a good time.” We then asked Stone if she was privy to any of Timberlake’s rumored serenading on set. “There was some humming,” Stone recalled. “Maybe some scatting.” It seems as though JT saved his pipes for his “Benefits” director, as Gluck had a little bit more to say on the subject. “He sings everything,” Gluck said. “He sings when we’re waiting to shoot, he sings when he’s pointing out paparazzi, he always sings everything. The funny thing is, unlike other people humming, every time he sings, you’re like, ‘That’s Justin Timberlake! He’s singing a song about “the boom just hit me in the face”!’ and it could be a pop song if he does it right,” Gluck said, adding that he would have to persuade his crew to refocus on their work and not Timberlake’s vocal stylings. “He does like to sing, and he’s good at it,” Gluck said. “And even when he does a little dance [to go along with the song], he’s good at it.” Fingers crossed that Gluck will add a reel of Timberlake’s on-set singing to the “Friends With Benefits” DVD. The Situation Or Audrina Patridge On ‘DWTS’: Lo Bosworth Weighs In

‘I think the Situation might have some moves that we don’t know about,’ she jokes. By Jocelyn Vena Tony Dovolani and Audrina Patridge Photo: ABC Lo Bosworth always had Audrina Patridge ‘s back on “The Hills,” but she might be siding with another MTV star when it comes to who she thinks has a better shot on “Dancing With the Stars,” which kicks off its new season Monday night (September 20). “I think the Situation might have some moves that we don’t know about,” she told MTV News earlier this month on the VMA white carpet. “I’m looking forward to seeing it.” Aside from her new allegiance to the star of “Jersey Shore,” Bosworth is sure that Patridge will have the skills to pay the bills, or at the very least make it to the finals of the show. “I think she’s gonna do well,” she said. “I know that she really focuses on the task and tries to get it done, so I think it’s her drive that’ll take it through.” Patridge is set to kick off the dance competition with partner Tony Dovolani. She said that the dance pro is helping her through the process. “He is amazing,” she said. “He’s such a great teacher. He’s very professional, and we have a lot of fun together. It’s really fun. I look forward to going to rehearsal every day.” So, what has Dovolani been doing to make sure that Patridge keeps up her confidence as a newbie dancer? Well, he gave her a good-luck charm. “Tony is an amazing teacher — he just gets me. We’re both really goofy, but focused and serious at the same time. He gave me a bracelet with an evil eye on it to protect me and keep away anybody who’s sending bad energy or saying mean things,” she told People.com . “Tony says it blocks all that. So I wear that for good luck — but sometimes it doesn’t go with my outfits!” Who are you looking forward to seeing on “Dancing With the Stars”? Tell us in the comments. Marques Houston Talks ‘Boogie Town’ Sex Scene With Brenda Song

‘I think people will be shocked with her performance,’ Houston says of Disney star. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Marques Houston Photo: MTV News Marques Houston isn’t just going to boogie on the dance floor in his new flick, “Boogie Town.” He’ll also be getting his boogie on with Disney star Brenda Song. You see, the two have one very steamy sex scene in the forthcoming flick. And, Houston jokes, there were no Disney suits on the set while the two got it on. “I shot my first onscreen sex scene with the lovely Brenda Song. It was an experience,” he told MTV News. “Lights, camera, action. There’s cameras all around and you’re trying to create a moment that looks real. We made it comfortable for each other, but it was very, very nerve-racking. I’ll never forget it, and it turned out well. It was professional.” The movie is about rival dance crews that must compete in the underground world of Boogie Town because dancing has become illegal in a futuristic New York. Houston’s character eventually falls in love with his rival’s sister, played by Song. Former “Sister, Sister” actor Houston, who has himself made the transition from child star to adult star, says that the “Suite Life on Deck” actress is seamlessly making the transition too, thanks to her roles in “Boogie Town” and “The Social Network.” “She was wonderful. She wanted to do the role because it would be a natural transition,” he explained. “I think she’s making a great transition. I think people will be shocked with her performance.” Houston adds that there’s a lot more to the flick than sex and fancy dance moves. He described the film as “fresh and new.” He explained, “I wouldn’t say it’s a superhero movie [but] we kind of share this energy or power that is in us. We’re kind of genetically created with the dance element.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Related Artists Marques Houston

Far East Movement Feel ‘Free To Geek Out’ On New Album

The Los Angeles group is climbing the charts with ‘Like a G6.’ By Evan Leong Far East Movement Photo: MTV News Far East Movement ‘s newest single, “Like a G6,” which climbed to #11 on the iTunes charts this week, is a far cry from the underground lyrical rap they first began recording as childhood friends in Los Angeles’ K-Town. But it seems that the four-man group has found its niche in the dance music world, leading to gigs opening for powerhouses like Lady Gaga, LMFAO and Kelis in the last six months, and their upcoming Up in the Air Tour with Mike Posner. “For us, as artists, finding our new sound, you got to experiment, you got to try on new shoes till you find the one that fits and looks fly,” Kev Nish told MTV News. “We’re such big fans of music and hip-hop, so we said let’s try doing something different, let’s take something we’re a fan of and creating something new. That led us up to what we’re doing now. It’s us wilding out and feeling comfortable about ourselves in the studio.” Far East Movement’s new album, Free Wired, is due out on October 12 and features collaborations with Snoop, Lil Jon and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder. “It’s [collaborations] all over the place in a good way, if you were to listen to our iPods right now, that’s what on our album,” Kev explained. ” Free Wired is a CD that you can put in at 6 p.m., right before dinner, till 6 a.m., right before breakfast. “People ask, ‘What genre is your music?’ ” he continued. “We like to say it’s our lifestyle, it’s our culture, it’s our fashion. Free Wired means you’re free to geek out, you stay wired all night, you stay connected. We’ll hit up a club, then after the club we’ll hit up the chatroom. It’s a free-wired lifestyle, fashion, sound.” And just as they don’t want to stick to one genre, they also don’t want to be labeled according to their ethnicity, despite what their name might imply. “We live a new world,” Kev asserted. “We live in a world where you live by your screen name. I might know more about the music you listen to, the sites you go to, before I know your last name or your heritage. We’re not out to represent any race, political thought, any religion, its just about making music and having fun doing it.” Related Artists Far East Movement
