‘Dancing With The Stars’ Pro Says Tabloids Affected Kate Gosselin’s Performance

Tony Dovolani says he and Gosselin read the tabs ‘every single day’ while on the show. By Kelley L. Carter Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani Photo: ABC You would think after starring in a reality-TV show and going through a very public divorce, Kate Gosselin would be used to being a favorite tabloid target. But her former “Dancing With the Stars” partner, Tony Dovolani , said the media scrutiny still gets to her, and it even affected her performance before they were eliminated from the show last month. “What surprised me the most about working with her was how much the tabloids attack her. That really shocked me the most,” Dovolani told MTV News at the third-annual George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic to benefit the Ann and George Lopez Foundation. “There are a lot of untrue stories about her. We read them every single day. It became entertaining. We would laugh at how much stuff people could actually make up. At times, yes, it affected her dancing. When you have a big bull’s-eye on your back as she does, of course it bothers you. It affected me, and it wasn’t directed at me.” Dovolani is convinced that what kept them on the show so long — despite the harsh criticisms they received from judges — was that women connected with Gosselin’s story. “People loved her as a mom,” he said. “Every mom struggles and trying to keep a balance. One kid is a lot, let alone eight.” Now that he and Kate are out, who does Dovolani think is the front-runner in the show? ESPN reporter Erin Andrews. “I love my girl Erin. She’s dancing with my best friend Maks,” he said. “Her personality, her dancing ability, her beauty — everything makes her the front-runner. I think she’s hilarious. I think she’s fantastic and she’s what this show is about.” Who do you think should win this season of “Dancing With the Stars”? Share your thoughts in the comments.

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 10’s First Perfect Score Goes To Evan Lysacek

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba calls Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya’s tango ‘so sexy, so refined.’ By Kelley L. Carter Anna Trebunskaya and Evan Lysacek on “Dancing with the Stars” Monday Photo: ABC After feeling like he let partner Anna Trebunskaya down in their samba last week, Olympian Evan Lysacek made it up to her and then some on Tuesday night’s “Dancing With the Stars.” The couple earned the first perfect score of season 10 with their Argentine tango. “Evan Lysacek has the eye of the tiger!” Carrie Ann Inaba exclaimed before the judges awarded them with 30 points. “It was so sexy, so refined. Just the perfect combination of power and control.” Up first was ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who did a quickstep that the judges raved over. Last week, Chmerkovskiy was criticized for taking his clothes off, so they had a bit of fun with it and had him ripping off his pants and her skirt to reveal another dancing costume. “Erin, without doubt, your best dance. I loved your performance. Well done,” Len Goodman said. Score: 27 out of 30. The second pair to dance was Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke, who did the Viennese waltz. “The pressure is on when you gotta be perfect,” the football player groaned during a rehearsal. The judges were impressed, saying that this was the night Chad became a contender. “Chad, I can’t believe you can be so graceful and so gentle; truly a gentle giant,” Bruno Tonioli said. Score: 25. Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough said they wanted to do a pure waltz, with no hodgepodge. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba called the pop singer by far the best dancer they have ever had on the show. “You’re so good that you dance almost as Derek’s equal. You still were side-by-side, next to each other. The connection was lacking, but the movements were gorgeous,” Inaba said. Score: 27. Pamela Anderson said she wanted to refine her technique, and her partner Damian Whitewood was determined to make it happen. Goodman called her waltz understated, and said that Anderson needs to “firm up” her upper body. “It’s a very tough dance,” Goodman added. Tonioli said she always gets the character right, but she “had to check the top line, which is very hard to hold constantly in these … dances.” Score: 24. Niecy Nash and Louis van Amstel did a quickstep, but before they performed, had a rather funny exchange in their rehearsal footage. “We’re like a couple who got divorced and still have to tolerate each other for the sake of the kids,” Nash joked. That oddball chemistry appeared to work for the judges. “Niecy, you never looked more gorgeous,” Tonioli said. “Your footwork was better than ever; your best dance to date.” Score: 25. In addition to the individual routines, the celebrities had to set aside their rivalries to do a group cha-cha, in a Madonna vs. Lady Gaga challenge. Team Gaga (Anderson and Whitewood, Scherzinger and Hough, and Burke and Ochocinco) beat Team Madonna (Nash and Van Amstel, Lysacek and Trebunskaya, and Andrews and Chmerkovskiy), earning 27 points to Madonna’s 24. Which couple do you think was the best on last night’s “Dancing With the Stars”? Share your reviews in the comments. Related Photos The 2010 Cast Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’

New Kate Gosselin Book Tanks Hard

Kate Gosselin’s latest book isn’t exactly flying off the shelves, which is a good thing too, because if it were, the apocalypse might be imminent. Since its April 13 release, I Just Want You to Know: Letters to My Kids on Love, Faith, and Family has sold 10,084 copies, according to reports. That’s 10,084 more than we’d hope, but still a low total. Gosselin’s new non-fiction title debuted at #11 on the New York Times ‘ non fiction bestseller list, and at #103 on USA Today’s bestsellers chart. By Thursday afternoon, its Amazon rank was #862. This is in spite of Kate Gosselin relentlessly hawking the book (while being absent from the kids, ironically), and being on Dancing with the Stars. Has the book-buying public tired of Kate? Jim Milliot, business and news director of Publishers Weekly , recently stated that the numbers “nowhere near a blockbuster” and ” not that impressive .” Not that surprising, either. A Kate Gosselin book about parenting? After all this? Would you buy a Lindsay Lohan book on teetotalling? Just curious. By contrast, the 35-year-old mom’s first two books, Multiple Blessings and Eight Little Faces, both climbed to number five on the New York Times ‘ list. Multiple Blessings sold 523,000 copies in 2009. I Just Want You to Know “continues [Kate’s] story of faith and family. Using excerpts and written prayers from her journal, Kate offers an intimate look at the heart of a mother during the years her family transitioned from obscurity to fame.” In related news, Jon Gosselin is reportedly penning a memoir, I Just Want to Hit That: A Divorced Father of Eight’s Quest For Mediocre Rebound Girls .
