Daniel Radcliffe Prefers Dancing Over Being Naked Onstage

Actor admits it’s easier to sing and dance in ‘How to Succeed …’ than it was to disrobe in ‘Equus.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: Getty “I’m excited. Terrified, but excited,” Daniel Radcliffe told MTV News in the summer of 2007 as he prepared to take the stage — and doff his drawers — in a London-based production of “Equus.” Radcliffe eventually took the production to Broadway in 2008, but even a year later, the nude scene never got much easier. Even the prospect of singing and dancing on Broadway — talents the 21-year-old actor readily admits don’t come naturally to him — is a delight by comparison. That’s why, as Radcliffe walked the red carpet at the opening for his new musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” he admitted that tapping his toes on Broadway is far less terrifying than ripping off his skivvies. “I’m still going to have to go with being naked onstage,” he laughed. “The dancing and singing thing, it is scary, particularly on Broadway, because it is the home of the musical. But once you’ve learned it, it can become really fun. I can’t say the same about being naked onstage. This is a much more fun show all around.” That’s not to say “How to Succeed” has been a cakewalk. Radcliffe and his fellow actors endured an exhaustive rehearsal schedule and nearly a month of previews before officially opening on Sunday. “We’ve had a long-ish preview period — I can’t say ‘long’ anymore because of ‘Spider-Man’ — but it feels great to be here and know the show is set now and we don’t have to rehearse during the day and we get to chill out,” he told us. “Honestly, coming in and doing a two-and-a-half-hour show every evening will seem like a holiday after the last couple months.” Related Videos MTV News Rough Cut: Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe Says Final ‘Harry Potter’ Press Tour Will Be ‘Weird’

‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’ actor will trade Broadway for red carpets when ‘Deathly Hallows’ premieres in July. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News The end is almost upon us. Over a decade after production on the first “Harry Potter” began, the final film hits theaters in July, and as J.K. Rowling promised Daniel Radcliffe , she’s not going to write more books about the boy wizard. That’s fine by Radcliffe, who has joked on many an occasion that he’s ready to leave the franchise behind, not least because there’d be something unseemly about playing Harry as the actor approached middle age. But he’s not done with “Potter” yet. There’s still the upcoming press tour for the second part of “Deathly Hallows,” which will require Radcliffe to step away from his new Broadway musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” for a few days. And, as he told MTV News recently, transitioning from one show-business world to another is going to be strange. “In a way, it will probably be weird to suddenly have to switch out of the mode I’m in for this show and then go and do press,” he said, adding with a laugh, “But I can do that. I’m very versatile!” Being able to jump from performing to plugging and back again, Radcliffe added, simply comes with the territory. “I think any actor that does a big film or even a show like this now without the expectation that they will have to do press for it is very naive,” he said. “It’s part of the job. It’s as much a part of the job almost as anything else.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Daniel Radcliffe To Star In Indie Comedy ‘The Amateur Photographer’

Christopher Monger, the Emmy-nominated co-writer of HBO’s ‘Temple Grandin,’ will direct. By Eric Ditzian Daniel Radcliffe Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images At the same time that Daniel Radcliffe readies to return to Broadway — previews of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” begin on February 26 — the 21-year-old actor is continuing to plot his post-“Harry Potter” career on the big screen. Radcliffe is now attached to star in “The Amateur Photographer,” an indie comedy from writer/director Christopher Monger, according to Variety . Monger shared writing credits on HBO’s “Temple Grandin,” the biopic that earned him an Emmy nomination and Claire Danes a Golden Globe win. Set in a New England mill town during the 1970s, the movie will follow Radcliffe as a young man who finds in himself an unlikely artistic streak when he begins photographing the “most intimate moments” of the townspeople’s lives, as Variety puts it, and ends up battling “local authorities while bringing a bit of a velvet revolution to the community.” Radcliffe has already wrapped production on his first film following the completion of the “Harry Potter” series. “The Woman in Black” is a thriller in which Radcliffe plays a lawyer who travels to a strange town filled with supernatural secrets. The Brit has also lined up another big-screen project in “All Quiet on the Western Front.” He’s set to play a German soldier during World War I when the production kicks off in the spring of 2012. And come July, he’ll be busy with promotional duties for the final part of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” For now, though, Radcliffe is settling in on Broadway. After a month of previews, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” will officially open on March 27. After ‘Deathly Hallows – Part 1,’ What’s Next For Daniel Radcliffe?

Aside from wrapping up the ‘Harry Potter’ series, Radcliffe has a couple of films lined up and will return to Broadway. By Eric Ditzian Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News Following the exhaustive international “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” press tour, Daniel Radcliffe might have the chance to sneak a few Z’s. Or not. The kid has a jam-packed schedule of projects lined up that will keep him busy for the next few years. That means even after the “Potter” franchise is done, you’ll have the chance to see Radcliffe on stage and screen for a long time to come. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” The franchise isn’t done, remember? Production wrapped up this past summer, and the film is set to hit theaters in July. Will it be in 3-D? What will Radcliffe look like as a 40-something adult in the film’s much-discussed epilogue ? These are just a few of the questions we have about the upcoming installment. “Woman in Black” The 21-year-old took a 10-day break from “Woman in Black” to promote “Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” but he’ll soon be headed back to the set for another four weeks of filming. Based on a 1983 thriller by Susan Hill, the supernatural thriller follows Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe) as a lawyer who travels to sort out a recently deceased client’s affairs, encountering dark secrets and haunting presences when he arrives. Radcliffe told us he’s been loving the production, which is just a fraction of the size of a “Potter” film. “It’s faster,” he said. “I’m loving it. It’s very, very exciting. “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” Radcliffe made his Broadway debut in 2008’s “Equus.” He’s heading back to the Great White Way in February for “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” He’ll play J. Pierrepont Finch, a young New York City window washer who climbs the corporate ranks until his own profit-at-any-cost ideas threaten to bring everything crashing down. Previews are set to begin on February 26 at the Al Hirschfeld Theater, with the musical opening on March 27. “All Quiet on the Western Front” The Brit has already lined up another big-screen literary adaptation, though this one has nothing to do with witches, wizards or ghosts. In “All Quiet on the Western Front,” Radcliffe will play Paul Baumer, a German soldier sent to fight in the trenches during World War I. The shoot is expected to kick off in spring 2012. Daniel Radcliffe Doesn’t Want To Play Harry Potter Again

‘I’m going to be working very hard to establish myself as an actor outside of this series,’ ‘Deathly Hallows’ star tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News In spite of the billions of dollars grossed by the “Harry Potter” film franchise and the book series it’s based on, the obsessive devotion of fans, the endless merchandise, blogs and so forth, the wizard series is coming to an end. For real. MTV News caught up with superstar Daniel Radcliffe as he promoted “Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” and we asked him about J.K. Rowling’s recent “Oprah” interview. The author denied to Oprah Winfrey that she had said she’d never write another “Potter” book. So we asked Radcliffe if he could foresee revisiting his Harry Potter character someday. “I think Jo is being very kind to a lot of people by giving them that little bit of hope and me that mild heart attack,” Radcliffe joked. “But I’ve been doing this for 10 years. A team of surgeons would be needed to reapply my jaw to my face if she did this. I would be incredibly surprised but, you know, the other thing is, people have been saying, ‘If she did [write more books], would you be in [the films]?’ And at this point in time, ‘No’ is the answer,” he admitted. “I’ve done it for 10 years and that’s a long time. But I’m also being careful to qualify that with, ‘Better men than me have changed their mind.’ ” Radcliffe went on to say that while he’s resisting the urge to say “never again” to another “Potter” film, he also hopes he’s able to move onward with his career. “I don’t want to say it would be a step backwards because these films have been so good to me, but over the next few years I’m going to be working very hard to establish myself as an actor outside of this series,” he said. “It would seem self-defeating if I went back to them.” Are you sad to see the “Harry Potter” franchise ending? Daniel Radcliffe Was Elated For ‘Time Off’ After ‘Deathly Hallows’

‘One side of us was very sad to finish it all but on the other hand we had been filming for a long time,’ ‘Harry Potter’ star admits to MTV News. By Kara Warner Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News There have been lots of stories about the sadness and tears shed in the final days of filming on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” and “Part 2.” But castmembers also felt a bit of relief at having capped off a decade of “Potter” with an intense shoot on the final two films. “Whenever people say, ‘Oh, you must have been really sad on that last day,’ I think, ‘Well yeah. We were all knackered,’ ” Daniel Radcliffe recently told MTV News . “We were also quite happy to have some time off.” (In fact, Radcliffe had little if any time off as he had to fly straight to New York to present at the Tony Awards with Katie Holmes after shooting wrapped.)
