THG’s latest installment of Where Are They Now goes to the cast of Boy Meets World . We know that at least one of them wasn’t at the Dodgers’ no-hitter against the Phillies, despite throwing out the first pitch that night, but what about the rest of them? Boy Meets World It might not be Thursday, but here’s a throwback to the cast of Boy Meets World, minus Danielle Fishel, who WASN’T a series regular at first. Something about ’90s sitcoms seemed to be a death knell for many careers, as no Boy Meets World cast members on to do anything notable following the series’ end in 2000. While Mr. Feeny, aka William Daniels, guest starred on Grey’s Anatomy as a mentor to a young Dr. Christina Yang, his time there was short lived. Matthew Lawrence is currently on Melissa & Joey alongside his big brother, proving that the Lawrence boys continue to make their acting gigs family affairs. The newly-married Danielle Fishel posed for Maxim to reinvigorate her career and generate press for the upcoming spinoff, Girl Meets World . The rest of the cast? Faded into obscurity. Until now. After covering the walls of teen girls everywhere in the late 90s, we’re still not sure how Will Friedle didn’t end up on a CW show. Girl Meets World premieres on June 27. Will you be watching? This new Girl Meets World preview centers on Riley Matthews, the titular Girl who Meets the World. The world of Middle School as it were in this case. Those who grew up watching Boy Meets World on ABC cannot wait for the return of Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, now married parents, to their TVs. Rowan Blanchard, as their daughter, is the focal point, though. This new previous introduces us to Riley and friends Maya, Lucas and Frankie. Another day, another taste of the much-anticipated Girl Meets World. This time it’s the Disney show’s first poster, with star Rowan Blanchard front and center: Previously, we’ve seen the new cast via a family portrait and a Girl Meets World teaser for this upcoming sitcom and Boy Meets World spinoff (below). Now the network has unveiled an official poster for this series, and it’s … pretty generic. But it’s Girl Meets World , people! Everybody get fired up! As you can see, the Girl Meets World poster , features the titular Girl, Blanchard, holding up the show’s logo, featuring a globe instead of an “O.” Clever. On top, we see her parents, Boy Meets World mainstays Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel), plus Auggie (August Maturo) and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). Peyton Meyer has been cast on the Boy Meets World spinoff as Tristan Friar, the classmate and first love interest of Cory and Topanga’s child. Elsewhere, August Maturo will portray Riley’s five-year old brother, Louis, on Girl Meets World, which will debut on The Disney Channel in 2014. Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson is in the news today, but it’s not for any dessert recipes whipped up by The Taste panelist. It’s for something far more disturbing. According to a report in Great Britain’s Sunday People , Lawson and husband Charles Saatchi were dining at a restaurant called Scott’s when the latter reached over and grabbed his wife by the throat. The British newspaper actually has photos of the incident . “At one stage [Saatchi] tweaked her nose then pushed both hands in her face,” according to the report. “Twice Nigella jerked her head backwards as if in fear. Several times she nodded intently while the conversation became more and more heated.” Lawson was described by one witness as “distraught and in tears” throughout the confrontation, while another added: “It was utterly shocking to watch. I have no doubt she was scared. It was horrific, really. She was very tearful and was constantly dabbing her eyes.” Though the celebrity has not filed charges, police are looking into the incident. Lawson and Saatchi have been married since 2003.
A French artist is suing Lady Gaga for plagiarism. Orlan, who’s been active in the French art scene for decades, claims Gaga basically aped her style, and has a list of reasons why this is the case. Notably, Gaga, like Orlan, takes a stage name, and employs visual and conceptual references to Catholic imagery, the human body, and celebrity. That sounds broad, and without a doubt it is. Yet there’s an entire Tumblr dedicated to the similarities between the two, Gagaorlan, and in a 1993 Art in America feature, Orlan is described as such: “Orlan has trafficked in notions of an ambiguous and constantly shifting identity.” “Her actions call into question whether our self-representations conform to an inner reality or whether they are actually carefully contrived falsehoods fabricated for marketing purposes, in the media or in society at large.” “Orlan leaves her background deliberately fuzzy, the better to maintain the anonymity required to project an enigmatic ‘star quality.'” Does sort of ring a bell, doesn’t it? From the Lady Gaga hermaphrodite controversy to Orlan’s elective plastic surgery as “performance art,” one can’t deny there are parallels between them. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (Full Video) From a legal standpoint, Orlan is reportedly focusing on one rather specific image from Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” music video to make her case. The lawsuit mentions an image of Gaga’s severed head in the intro and its resemblance to a 90’s Orlan sculpture, “Femme Avec Tête” (“Woman With Head”). The lawsuit also cites another work of Orlan’s, “Bumpload.” Does she have a case? Clearly there’s a difference here between creating an homage to an iconic work of art and ripping off someone’s work. However, that is oftentimes a very thin line. Orlan seems to think that Gaga’s apparent, repeated references to her work are the latter, and wants 7.5 percent of the profits from her Born This Way album. For her part, Gaga actually talked about Orlan back in 2011, as part of an interview with NME , and basically she said she hadn’t heard of her: “Who’s Orlan?” Gaga asked, grabbing her MacBook as she was asked if that was an influence on her. “Do people think that’s where I got it from?” Upon Googling her, the pop superstar exclaimed, “Oh my gosh. (Gasps) What is that? It’s quite beautiful. That’s weird! (Thinks) It’s very fabulous.” “Well, I’m going to be inspired by her now, thank you!”
Girl Meets World is officially heading to the Disney Channel. The wildly anticipated Boy Meets World spinoff will premiere in 2014, the network announced today, via press release, with executive producer Michael Jacobs saying in a statement: “Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular.” The new series will star Rowan Blanchard as Riley Matthews, the teenage daughter of Cory and Topanga, to be played by a returning Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, respectively. It will be set in New York City, with Cory teaching history at his daughter’s school and Topanga running a pudding shop. According to the official Disney Channel synopsis, the sitcom will follow Riley and her quick-witted friend Maya (played by Sabrina Carpenter) as they “embark on an unforgettable middle school experience.” Look for Rider Strong to maybe guest star on the program, while Teo Halm will play Elliott, Cory and Topanga’s son. Ah, prom season. This annual, awkward rite of passage may be winding down, but it lives on in photos for President Barack Obama and countless other celebs. Time unearthed this classic photo from the future President’s 1979 prom in Hawaii. Take a look at the 17-year-old with his date and another couple: Kelli Allman, second from left, says Obama spent his H.S. days studying, playing basketball (as a player on the varsity team) and hanging out with his friends. Allman shares, “It was a really fun, happy time. We were all cracking up, and everyone was smiling. It was pretty typical from there out as far as what happens at prom.” “Dinner and, dancing and the photos, all of that.” Not to mention great hair on the Prez.
