Former child actor Dee Jay Daniels, who starred on the 1990s sitcom The Hughleys, is being held in a California jail on murder and gang activity charges. Daniels was arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing. The 23-year-old actor, whose real name is Dorjan Lyndell Daniels, is being held without bail in San Joaquin County Jail and is suspected in the crime. He is accused of being a member of the Bloods gang. He and two other men allegedly stabbed 26-year-old John Joseph outside a nightclub in Stockton, Calif., in August 2011, but were only now arrested. Dee Jay Daniels faces charges of street terrorism, premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder, and faces life in prison if he is convicted. He played the youngest child on The Hughleys , which aired from 1998 to 2002, and also appeared on Coach, Grace Under Fire and Cold Case .

A lot of what brings so many celebrities and so much attention to the international film fest is its location. Who doesn’t want to travel to the sandy shores of the French Riviera for “work”? The other big draw, of course, is the opportunity to see movies of all genres, budgets, origin, etc., many of which can get an early jump into awards-season consideration with positive reviews from the notoriously hard-to-please Cannes audiences. From the outside looking in, “The Paperboy” is one of the films at the festival that has major awards-buzz potential because of its director, Oscar nominee Lee Daniels (“Precious”), and its cast: Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack. Judging from the initial reactions to the small-town, sexed-up murder mystery, however, the reception has been decidedly mixed. “Daniels wants to show us realities that other movies don’t, and I truly think that he’s got the talent and drive to do it. But there’s a major downside to that impulse,” wrote . “If what happens on screen is in any way odd or exaggerated or, even worse, if it defies common sense, the clang of falseness is going to be deafening. “The line on this movie in Cannes is the same one that a lot of critics, including me, took on Daniels’ ‘Shadowboxer’: that it’s so luridly overripe it’s nuts — or, at the very least, high camp,” Gleiberman continued. “Certainly, you’re going to have that feeling during the scene when Kidman, at the beach, saves Efron from a jellyfish sting by urinating on him — which is an anti-jellyfish home remedy, but the way the scene is shot, I think Daniels had something else in mind. The wrong notes, the extremeness, just piles up from there.” Efron and Kidman spoke to the film’s extremes during a press conference Thursday (May 24). “I don’t think I was supposed to feel comfortable,” Efron said. “It’s like life. This character is supposed to be learning the ways of the world, and that can be very uncomfortable. But it’s also exciting.” “I’d been looking as an actor for something raw and something dangerous,” Kidman said. “I may be uncomfortable watching the movie. But that’s my job — it’s my job to give over to something, not to censor it, not to put my own judgments of how I feel as Nicole playing the character. Joel “Taz” DiGregorio, the keyboard player in the Charlie Daniels Band, died in a car accident last night. He was 67. The musician – whose group is best known for the track “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” – was driving a car flipped that flipped over on Interstate 40 just west of Nashville and was actually on his way to a concert when the tragedy struck. The event was consequently canceled. Leah Daniels-Butler, 45, a casting associate for the Academy Award-nominated film, was arrested last September on more serious charges of trying to sneak her husband’s guns and illicit cash out of their California home. Daniels-Butler faces up to six months in prison on the drug pinch, a misdemeanor. SMH. Turns out, Roy Williams can’t hold on to a football or a beautiful woman. The underachieving wideout for the Dallas Cowboys proposed to Brooke Daniels last month, a beauty queen from Texas. But it wasn’t your typical proposal. Williams reportedly sent her a package that included: $5,000 for school and dental bills. A signed baseball (for Daniels’ brother) A recorded marriage proposal. A $76,000 ring. Daniels rejected the proposal – but did not send back the ring! In response, Williams has filed a lawsuit, but Daniels’ father says he’ll make sure his daughter does the right thing. He also claims the wide receiver told Brooke to keep it. “He said her, ‘I’m not like a lot of people, I don’t want the ring back. You’ll eventually come back to me,’ and she didn’t,” the father said. Williams better hope the NFL lockout ends soon. That way, we can go back to talking about how huge of a bust he is and not how huge of a moron he is.
