Source: Leon Bennett / Getty Cassie Say Team Of Black Women Have Uplifted Her Career Cassie is giving all glory to Black women for giving her career new purpose and effect. In a new interview L’Officiel , the singer/actress/entrepreneur talks about taking her career to the next level now that she is expecting a daughter. “My priorities have absolutely changed, not just for creating an amazing future and life for my daughter, but because I want her to be proud of me,” Cassie shared. “I’ve heard people say that they’re nervous to raise females in today’s world, but I’m excited! I can’t wait to see her grow, learn and challenge the world right back!” A big part of getting to that next level is the work of her new team that is comprised of predominantly Black women. When asked about working with a crew of black female creatives, Cassie explained how the new squad has helped her confidence. “When it comes to me choosing to work with certain people I have to go off of an organic connection. I love the fact that everyone that I work with now communicates fully on every aspect, we are not in competition, we work as a team and they actually understand who I am and who I want to mold myself to become. As a group, we work as a collective. “For me, this is the first time that I feel that I actually have a strong team in place that has my best interests at heart and the added bonus is that the majority of the team are creative black females. To me, it means we see each other,” she continued. “The energy I feel when we’re in a room together is unmatchable. We all have our own levels of experience and we bring our best to the table. We support each other and balance each other out all at the same time. It just works.” We’ll certainly be keeping on eye on Cassie’s moves to see how they reflect this new foray into overt Blackness.

Source: Jim Spellman / Getty Karlie Redd may have been on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta since its inception in 2012, but it’s a rarity for fans to see her daughter, Jasmine. If you blinked, you may have missed Jasmine making her debut on the show back in 2015 where she spoke with her mother about the star’s relationship drama. Karlie also posted a photo of her daughter last January, but those types of images from the star are few and far between. Since then though, Karlie has kept her out of the spotlight, and Jasmine has also chosen to steer clear from it as well, making her Instagram private. However, on Monday, Karlie’s daughter came out of hiding to appear on the latest episode of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta to set folks straight for talking poorly about her mother. Fans of the show were giddy about her appearance because the rare sightings of Jasmine made her something like Bigfoot to LHHATL viewers, who get a glimpse at the rest of the cast’s kids on a regular basis. Text “RICKEY”to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). While we first met her as a fresh-faced beauty coming home from college to visit with her mom years ago, this time around, Jasmine is older, she’s working, wearing a full face of makeup, and these days, she’s looking exactly like her mother. Looking exactly like the star doesn’t always come with perks though, because she told Karlie that she was taking a break from school because people had been confronting her with rumors about her mom: When your mom is reality TV royalty, it doesn’t always come with its perks! #LHHATL pic.twitter.com/HDmWpArxrh — Love & Hip Hop (@loveandhiphop) July 9, 2019 In a later clip, which was quite melodramatic if we’re being honest, Karlie and Jasmine attend a mother-daughter event put on by Rasheeda Frost. While there, the women encounter Karlie’s former friend, Pooh, as well as her daughter. If you’ve been tuning in this season, you know Pooh has been running around telling everyone that Karlie participated in a threesome with her and her husband, Hiram, a story Karlie denies. Unfortunately, Karlie put her daughter in the middle of that situation by using the event as an opportunity to try and clear her name (wrong place, wrong time), and when Pooh tried to call her out, Jasmine let everyone know she was willing to go to war for her mom: It was a lot, obviously. Still, viewers were glad to see Jasmine had grown into such a beautiful young lady, a doppleganger for her mother, as well as a rider for her. Source: Victoria Jones – PA Images / Getty Serena Williams ‘ body is sculpted by the finest craftsman in heaven and she is showing it off on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar in an unretouched photo that bares her bottom. @serenawilliams pens a candid essay for our August issue about standing up for herself, and becoming the strong woman, athlete, and mother she is today. https://t.co/8yVWKVG4SP — Harper's Bazaar (@harpersbazaarus) July 9, 2019 The dual cover portrays Serena as a golden goddess as her metallic gown blows in the wind. The champion tennis player penned an essay for the August issue, going into detail about her 2018 Grand Slam loss against Naomi Osaka. She was fined three times and ultimately, the referee had given the game to Osaka, who Serena admits played a better game. She admitted she couldn’t find peace after the match and felt betrayed by the sport she loved so much. “I felt defeated and disrespected by a sport that I love—one that I had dedicated my life to and that my family truly changed, not because we were welcomed, but because we wouldn’t stop winning.” “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve felt a need to voice my opinion and be heard…And I won’t ever stop raising my voice against injustice.” —For our August 2019 issue, @serenawilliams talks about never being afraid to use your voice: https://t.co/1bnucoZT7H pic.twitter.com/JsfHpMmCAI — Harper's Bazaar (@harpersbazaarus) July 9, 2019 Serena was convinced it was because she was a woman standing up for herself. “If I were a man, would I be in this situation? What makes me so different? Is it because I’m a woman? I stop myself to avoid getting worked up. I tell myself, ‘You’ve been through so much, you’ve endured so much, time will allow me to heal, and soon this will be just another memory that made me the strong woman, athlete, and mother I am today.’” She eventually questioned she had done the wrong thing standing up for herself because Osaka’s win was overshadowed by her behavior. “This debacle ruined something that should have been amazing and historic. Not only was a game taken from me but a defining, triumphant moment was taken from another player, something she should remember as one of the happiest memories in her long and successful career. My heart broke. I started to think again, “What could I have done better? Was I wrong to stand up? Why is it that when women get passionate, they’re labeled emotional, crazy, and irrational, but when men do they’re seen as passionate and strong?’” She sent Osaka an apology letter. “I thought I was doing the right thing in sticking up for myself. But I had no idea the media would pit us against each other. I would love the chance to live that moment over again. I am, was, and will always be happy for you and supportive of you. I would never, ever want the light to shine away from another female, specifically another black female athlete,” she wrote. But Osaka’s response gave her the clarity she had been seeking. “People can misunderstand anger for strength because they can’t differentiate between the two,” she said. “No one has stood up for themselves the way you have and you need to continue trailblazing.” The whole incident left Serena guarded. She didn’t pick up a racket until much later. “Ultimately, my daughter is the reason I use my voice, the reason I picked up a racket again. Love breathes life and newfound perspective into people. It’s not about quitting when someone presents a challenge; it’s about getting up when you are down, dusting yourself off and asking, “Is that the best you got?” Because I have God with me, and I can take whatever comes my way.” Read the full essay, here . Source: TPN / Getty Serena Williams is currently playing in Wimbledon and made it to the semifinals after gutting out a 2-1 match against fellow American Alison Riske. While the tennis world is still very much tuned in to Williams’ exploits on the court, an essay she penned as part of Harper’s Bazaar August cover story shares details of her controversial 2018 U.S. Open match against Naomi Osaka . From Harper’s Bazaar : “Hey, Naomi! It’s Serena Williams. As I said on the court,I am so proud of you and I am truly sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing in sticking up for myself. But I had no idea the media would pit us against each other. I would love the chance to live that moment over again. I am, was, and will always be happy for you and supportive of you. I would never, ever want the light to shine away from another female, specifically another black female athlete. I can’t wait for your future, and believe me I will always be watching as a big fan! I wish you only success today and in the future. Once again, I am so proud of you. All my love and your fan, Serena.” When Naomi’s response came through, tears rolled down my face. “People can misunderstand anger for strength because they can’t differentiate between the two,” she said graciously. “No one has stood up for themselves the way you have and you need to continue trailblazing.” It was in this moment that I realized the real reason the US Open was so hard for me to get over: It wasn’t because of the backlash I faced but rather because of what had happened to the young woman who deserved so much more in her special moment. I had felt that it was my fault and that I should have kept my mouth closed. But now, seeing her text putting everything in perspective, I realized she was right. Classy. The entire piece actually dives deep into the perception that women athletes face far more scrutiny than their male counterparts when it comes to being expressive on the court, the field, and in life period. The entire essay is a worthy read full of self-reflection and humility. Read the essay in full here . Serena Williams Writes Moving Essay Regarding 2018 U.S. Open Loss
Remember a few days ago when people were still talking about how far Amber Portwood has come, and how she’s doing so much better these days? Things change so quickly, don’t they? To be fair, it’s not that difficult to see why so many people thought that the Indiana native had turned her life around. In the early days of Teen Mom, going back a decade at this point, she was on drugs. Like, insanely hard drugs. She was high all the time, didn’t treat her mental illnesses, and assaulted Gary Shirley in front of their daughter, Leah. Eventually she went to prison for a whole lot of things – drug stuff, plus that previously mentioned domestic violence. She served 17 months of a five-year sentence. Seventeen months. Nearly a year and a half of her life behind bars. When she was released, she talked a lot about how much she’d changed, but it was hard to buy that for some time. After all, she was with mega douche Matt Baier (below). It was also hard to believe she was clean when she kept drinking with Baier, an addict with his own suspect past. After her truly bizarre appearance on Marriage Boot Camp , many people believed she was back on drugs as well. Then, after leaving the Marriage Boot Camp set, she got with Andrew Glennon, a crew member on the show. Yeah. Her life has been a roller coaster to say the least, and the biggest twists and turns were yet to come … Within literal days of starting their relationship, she was pregnant, but here’s where things seemed to take a turn. After she gave birth to their son, James, it was very noticeable how different she was with him compared to years past. Looking back on Leah when she was a baby, and how Amber responded, it was like watching a different person. In a positive way. It appeared, at least to us, like Andrew did a great job of calming her down and helping her deal with her anger problems. He also helped her with her postpartum depression . “Wow, that Andrew is so good for her,” more than a few Teen Mom fans expressed in recent years. “She’s so different!” Turns out, not so much. Early Friday morning, Amber was arrested for domestic battery following an incident that was concerning to say the least. We still don’t have the full story, but around 3:00 a.m., Andrew was holding James and Amber allegedly assaulted him. He sent a text to 911, a cool new feature in their state, and the responder called police, saying: “I received a text message from someone saying that their life and their son’s life is in danger.” A few hours later, police arrived to arrest the 29-year-old reality star, and she was taken to the local jail to be processed. She stayed there all day, and there was some speculation that since the domestic battery charge was a felony, she’d stay there until Monday morning when she could see a judge. Not so! She was finally released yesterday afternoon after being bonded out – all in all, she spent right around a day and a half behind bars. She still has to see a judge on Monday morning, specifically at 8:30. Now, we’re not legal experts or psychics or anything like that, but still, we get a feeling that this isn’t going to go so well. Remember, this isn’t the first time Amber’s been arrested for domestic violence. Years ago, she was originally arrested on three counts of this same act, and sentenced to probation. When she violated that probation, that’s when she went to prison before. Indiana, where she lives, is one of the states that has the “three strike law,” which should truly terrify her. Essentially, if a person is convicted of a violent felony multiple times, they’ll have to serve the full sentence the third time around. View Slideshow: Amber Portwood: I’m Suicidal and It’s MTV’s Fault! Considering that the full sentence for a repeat offender wouldn’t be a light one in all likelihood, that makes it pretty clear that they take crimes like these seriously, don’t you think? We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get an update on what’s happening, but in the meantime, maybe we’ll get a day of rest in the midst of all this Teen Mom drama . Eh, probably not. But we can can dream, right? View Slideshow: Amber Portwood: I Wanted to Hang Myself After Giving Birth!

Source: TIMOTHY A. CLARY / Getty Cardi B continues to find out how real her Invasion Of Privacy really is. The life of the Bronx bombshell comes with ups and downs; last week was no different. The Grio is reporting that Belcalis had a very unprofessional run in with a popular Latin television personality. Things went left from the beginning as Gelena Solano from El Gordo y La Flaca (Univision) allegedly just snuck up on her and family. This was a big no no for Bardi. She vented about the situation on an Instagram Live session. “I love El Gordo y la Flaca, I love this show – but the way that you work, you lady, you are not professional! I’m literally getting off my car, the door is not even closed, and you see that I’m with my daughter and I’m with my dad and you put a camera,” she revealed. “I turn around and there’s a camera and a mic in my mouth. You don’t know how to do your job! That’s not how it works when I’m with my child.” Later in the clip she explained her strong stance on not having her parents in the publicity mix. “My parents, they don’t like to be on camera. Back in the day I always used to post my parents and it got to the point that certain people were stalking me and that freaked my parents out.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Enrique Santos (@enriquesantos) on Jun 27, 2019 at 2:43am PDT Cardi was also handed another bad hand by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. According to The Blast her request to trademark her catchphrase “Okurrr” for merchandising purposes was denied. The official response was that the word is a “widely-used commonplace expression” thus it is not eligible for trademarking. They also added it “is a slogan or term that does not function as a trademark or service mark to indicate the source of applicant’s goods and/or services”. “Bodak Yellow” famously made the term 2018’s new it word via her indelible social media presence and hilarious interviews.
