Tragedy struck a basketball legend and his family today, as Alexandra “Sasha” McHale – the daughter of NBA Hall of Famer and Houston Rockets Head Coach Kevin McHale – passed away. She was only 23. No further details have been released, but McHale left the Rockets on November 10 to attend to a family matter. He has not returned since to the sideline. Houston Team owner Leslie Alexander said in a statement that he extends his ‘‘deepest condolences’’ over the loss of the McHale’s ‘‘beautiful daughter.’’ He referred to Kevin and wife Lynn ‘as ‘loving and dedicated parents who will need our continued support throughout this very difficult time,” adding that the ‘‘entire organization is mourning.’’ THG also sends its thoughts to McHale and his loved ones.
Lawrence Guyot, a civil rights leader who survived jailhouse beatings in the Deep South in the 1960s and went on to encourage generations to get involved, has died. He was 73. Guyot had a history of heart problems and suffered from diabetes, and died at home in Mount Rainier, Md., his daughter Julie Guyot-Diangone said late Saturday. Is this sweet or a lil’ too much? Some are saying it’s a beautiful, selfless act and other’s are questioning the safety risks Cathy Donnelly took for her daughter’s own happiness. According to The Daily Mail : Cathy Donnelly, 58, is six months pregnant and will welcome her seventh grandchild into the world when she gives birth to her – before daughter Shannon Fischer raises the baby. Mrs Fischer and her husband Jamie had been trying for two years when they discovered they couldn’t conceive due to scarring in her uterus. So Mrs Donnelly mother of three and a grandmother of six, volunteered to be a surrogate mother for her daughter. Mrs Fischer said: ‘The day I came home from my surgery mum said “I’ll do it”. She didn’t hesitate.’ Mrs Donnelly, from London in Ontario, Canada, said: ‘I felt bad for them – I just thought what’s nine months of my life? They are going to have a child for the rest of theirs? It’s not like I’m busy doing anything.’ Michael Murray, specialist at the Northern California Fertility Medical Center, says though there have been cases of mothers acting as surrogate for their daughters before it is typically something the medical community does not advise. He said: ‘Usually it’s a close friend or a sister that acts as the gestational carrier – women who are over 45-years-old are not normally in good enough health. ‘Pregnancy for older women is much riskier. The most common complications are high blood pressure, gestational diabetes and premature child birth.’ But they were risks Mrs Donnelly was willing to accept and while she admits her pregnancy hasn’t been easy, she has had no complications so far. ‘It was long process and involved a heavy dose of fertility drugs for both of us but in the end it all paid off. ‘But it has been challenging. Now I’m showing I make sure people aren’t staring or looking at me because they’re probably thinking ‘look at that old lady.’ Mrs Donnelly said she did question whether she was doing the right thing and if everything would work out okay until she started to feel the baby move. Now her only concerns are about how she will feel once she has given birth. ‘I don’t know if I’ll feel like I’ve lost her, I don’t know how I’m going to feel,’ Mrs Donnelly said. Shannon plans to name her daughter Zoey Hope Catherine after her mother. And for her the whole experience has made her cherish their mother-daughter relationship even more. Uhmmm…ok. The court transcript from last month’s guardianship hearing – which resulted in a judge decreeing that enough evidence of abuse existed to remove Ariel Winter from the home of her mother – have been made public. And they are very ugly on both sides. According to an attorney for Shanelle Workman (the actress’ sister, who is now caring for Ariel and who left home herself 20 years ago following allegations of abuse against her mom), Chrystal Workman was a “terror on the set of Modern Family ” and was nearly removed on multiple occasions. Moreover, Chrystal “repeatedly slapped, hit and pushed ” Ariel, while Workman’s lawyer added that Chrystal “sexualizes” her child by forcing her to don revealing outfits. In response, Chrystal clearly implied to the judge that her daughter was making up such charges, saying Winter is an “actress so I’m sure she can cry at the drop of a hat.” Shanelle, meanwhile, was present in court and reiterated how Chrystal also abused her as a teenager. Chrystal’s response? Her older child has no credibility because she ran off with a gang member many years ago and crack was once found in her home. It’s a confusing case, it’s a sordid case and, because a 14-year old girl is at the center of it, it’s a very sad case.

If you can, you really need to rethink your diet because something is very wrong. Taylor gets Paul and Mauricio to agree to don heels for a domestic violence charity walk. Plus 15 to Mauricio for walking the walk. At least those were real heels. Paul’s platform boots were a complete cheat. The least he could have done was wear those chunky Dorothy heels or a pair of kitten pumps. What’s a few crunched toes for charity? Yolanda’s job these days seems to be managing her daughter Gigi’s modeling career. I have to say the girl is a knock out. She looks just like her Mama did at that age. Plus 10 . And although Yolanda borders on meddling, her advice seems to be spot on most of the time. Kyle throws Portia’s fourth birthday party and Kyle seems upset when ponies show up instead of unicorns. Um…Kyle. I hate to burst the fantasy but… And I guess she should have specified white unicorns. I’ll almost give her that one. In what movie have you ever seen a brown unicorn? Minus 11. Between the llamas and the ponies, Kyle really should have hired a popper scooper. Minus 8 . Overall it’s a pretty boring party but I couldn’t believe Kyle thought everyone would be on their best behavior because it was a kid’s party. Minus 13 . That’s pretty naive. She gives these girls more credit than I do. Plus 15 to Brandi for at least trying to keep the peace, however Taylor had no trouble spreading the gossip.
