Kate Gosselin tweeted a photo of her 11-year-old daughter Mady trying on her high heels this weekend, and many of her Twitter followers were not big fans. Much like Jessica Simpson’s baby bikini photo , some people say she went too far. In Kate’s case, the seemingly innocent pic shows Mady’s bare legs in mom’s heels: The mother of eight tweeted with the photo: “hafta make u guess who just HAD to try on my heels that I just unpacked from my bag tonight… Starts w an ‘M.” Many of her followers were less than impressed. A vocal Kate critic wrote: “What Mom showcases her 11 yr old’s legs to 100,000 Twitter followers with all the pedophiles out there, wearing Mom’s high heels!” Some stood up for the reality star turned Fashion Week runway model . “I guess I’m truly NOT SEEIN what they see! Nothin abt that sent off any alarm 4me. Just a kid in heels,” one defender said. What’s your take? Tell us below! What do you think of Kate Gosselin’s photo, posted above?
Billionaire Robert Miller ( Richard Gere ) is a cheat. He cheats on his wife ( Susan Sarandon ) with his mistress, and on his mistress (Laetitia Casta) with his job. And for his job as CEO of one of those mysteriously mighty hedge funds that control the world in Arbitrage , he’ll cheat everybody : the IRS, his daughter and business partner ( Brit Marling ), the buddy who loaned him $412 million, and the fellow mogul Miller wants to acquire his company so he can, of course, spend time with his family, even though the idea confuses them. “I’m just trying to imagine what we would do?” laughs Marling. Clearly, Robert Miller swims with those economic sharks who nearly ruined the world in 2008, and writer/director Nicholas Jarecki (brother of Andrew and Eugene) is going to make him pay. But not for his actual crimes — no one’s going to jail for those — which means Jarecki has to invent a new sin. And so, late one night when the roads are empty, Miller whisks his mistress toward his lake house. He falls asleep at the wheel, skids into the divider, and comes-to next to her fresh corpse — a bloody metaphor for the lives he’s impersonally ruined, and a vicious end for Casta, a Normandy-born beauty so physically perfect there’s literally a bust of her in every French town hall. The quiet of the crash’s aftermath is chilling; the only sound is Miller screaming. But then he thinks of the millions he could lose if the cops, investors, and his wife look harder at his life and makes the cold decision to abandon her body and rescue his reputation. Hey, what’s a little furtive involuntary manslaughter to the baron of Manhattan? With the overconfidence of someone who’s Tivo-ed every episode of CSI , Miller calmly calls collect to Harlem and asks his ex-chauffeur’s son, a young ex-con named Jimmy (Nate Parker), to meet him at a gas station and shuttle him back to the city, no questions asked. Meanwhile, Detective Bryer (Tim Roth) arrives at the flaming wreck and resolves to find out who was really behind the wheel. This sounds like the set-up of a cat-and-mouse thriller. But Jarecki quickly establishes that Miller is screwed — the detective has him fingered by breakfast, and by lunch he’s got Jimmy in custody and threatened with a 10-year sentence for obstruction of justice if he won’t give testimony proving Miller’s guilt. As Miller’s lawyer warns, “The real world is different than television.” So, too, is this movie. Compared to an episode of your average television procedural, Arbitrage has double the runtime and half the suspense because Jarecki could care less about tension and theatrics. He doesn’t even care about Casta’s death — she doesn’t merit a single emo flashback. Jarecki is only interested in one deeply cynical question: What justice is fair to a billionaire? Money — not sex or death — is what fuels Arbitrage . It’s Miller’s excuse for refusing to confess (what’s 10 years to one innocent man if it protects thousands of employees?), and it’s what Miller offers Jimmy for his silence. Apparently, the going rate for a decade of jail time is $2 million, an insulting number considering it’s also what Miller drops to squire Sarandon’s status-conscious wife to a single Friday night benefit gala. And the detective’s resentment for Miller’s practically meaningless money is why the pinched and bitter Roth is so dogged about putting him in prison, vowing, “He doesn’t get to walk just because he’s on CNBC .” The performances are golden with Marling, Roth and Sarandon adding heft to their slender characters. It’s smart casting to have Vanity Fair impresario Graydon Carter pop up as the tycoon Miller so desperately needs to impress. And as the under-attack Jimmy, Parker works hard to make audiences want to remember his name. But this is a showcase for Gere, who has spent his career playing men who can afford a good scotch. (With that head of expensive silver hair, he could never play a fry cook.) At 63, his features have turned to steel: his eyes are small and watchful, and with his good looks he seems aggressively aware that he only has a few more years to grope Laetitia Casta before he has to holster his penis like Harrison Ford. Here, he’s at once charismatic and clueless, even getting a laugh when he asks Jimmy, “What’s an Applebee’s?” Gere does his best to give Arbitrage an agitated energy, but Jarecki’s fatalism works against the film. We can’t root for Miller; instead, we watch with dispassionate interest how the fallout of his misdeeds affects his friends, business partners and family. The smart surprise is that frankly, some of them don’t give a damn. Miller’s millions haven’t just corrupted him — they’ve corrupted everyone who wants a piece of him. And when Jimmy, the poorest and the purest in this ice cold drama, growls, “You think money’s going to fix this?” we’re forced to agree with Miller’s genuinely confused response: “What else is there?” Amy Nicholson is a critic, playwright and editor. What??…her daughter was hungry?! The single-mom Professor was in a bind and brought her baby girl to work…but none of her students expected her to break her tiddays out of her top during their lecture. Adrienne Pine was in a jam. The assistant anthropology professor at American University was about to begin teaching “Sex, Gender & Culture,” but her baby daughter woke up in the morning with a fever. The single mother worried that she had no good child-care options. So Pine brought her sick baby to class. The baby, in a blue onesie, crawled on the floor of the lecture hall during part of the 75-minute class two weeks ago, according to the professor’s account. The mother extracted a paper clip from the girl’s mouth at one point and shooed her away from an electrical outlet. A teaching assistant held the baby and rocked her at times, volunteering to help even though Pine stressed that she didn’t have to. When the baby grew restless, Pine breast-fed her while continuing her lecture in front of 40 students. Now Pine finds herself at the center of a debate over whether she did the right thing that day and what the ground rules are for working parents who face such child-care dilemmas.“Every working parent can empathize with facing the choice of an important day at work when a child gets sick,” officials added in a second statement Tuesday afternoon. “Both demand your focus and attention. There is no easy or ideal alternative.”Some students interviewed Tuesday said breast-feeding doesn’t belong in the classroom. University officials, however, said professors should avail themselves of other options rather than expose students to potential illness. “For the sake of the child and the public health of the campus community, when faced with the challenge of caring for a sick child in the case where backup childcare is not available, a faculty member should take earned leave and arrange for someone else to cover the class, not bring a sick child into the classroom,” university spokeswoman Camille Lepre said in an e-mail. Kathy Bates, an Oscar winner for the 1991 film Misery and multiple-time Emmy nominee, revealed today that she was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks ago and recently underwent a double mastectomy in her battle against the disease. “Luckily, I don’t have to undergo radiation or chemo,” Bates said in a statement. “My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception… My doctors have assured me I’m going to be around for a long time. I’m looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do.” Bates was also diagnosed with ovarian cancer nine years ago. She has a busy professional future ahead of her, beginning on September 23 Emmy Awards where the veteran star is actually nominated in two categories: Outstanding actress in a drama ( Harry’s Law ) and outstanding guest actress in a comedy ( Two and a Half Men ). We wish her a full recovery.
Troubled Teen Mom cast member Amber Portwood stated the obvious in a statement from jail in which she said she is not normal – and needs to grow up. Two weeks after the Teen Mom finale , she issued remarks from prison to coincide with the eunion special that aired Tuesday night on MTV with Dr. Drew. In it, she talked about how she “got lost” in drugs and alcohol. Amber Portwood, now serving a five-year sentence, writes: “Right now I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing with my life. I guess I just got lost. I went to jail because I had an addiction to opiates.” “You live and you learn and that’s what’s real. “It was time for me to stop partying and realize that even though I’m 21, I’m not a normal 21-year-old.” “I’m a mother. I have to grow up quicker and start acting like a mother .” No arguments here, even though Portwood’s voluntarily decision to serve out a five-year term in jail rather than comply with a court-ordered drug program is dubious. After violating her probation stemming from a December 2011 arrest for drug possession, Amber’s behind bars for a LONG time, but says it’s for the best. “My No. 1 priority right now in life is dedicating my life to being sober, to being a sober person,” she writes, adding that she’s doing it for Leah , 3. “[I want] to show my daughter that people make mistakes but you can always come back. If Leah learns anything from me she should see how becoming a teen mom can change you. How everything is postponed,” Portwood said. She also hopes people learn from her mistakes. “We made the show for a reason…some decisions change your whole life. If you don’t want to take responsibility and use protection, don’t have sex.” “One night can change your whole life into a sad story,” noted Portwood, adding that the “mean person” viewers see on Teen Mom is far from reality. “I want to show everybody I can do it and can start living a straight life and getting my family back in order,” she concluded, and we wish her the best.
Ouch…that’s a big difference! Ex-Sacramento Kings Guard Quincy Douby was already paying $1,500 each month . Now she’s asking for $15,000!!! SMH A former NBA player who’s being asked to pay $15,000 a month in child support branded his ex-girlfriend a gold digger Wednesday who wants to imitate the “Basketball Wives” lifestyle. Quincy Douby, 28, a 2006 first-round draft pick who played three seasons with the Sacramento Kings and now stars in China, showed up at Brooklyn Family Court based a legal challenge from his ex, Tanya Raymond. The 28-year-old mother of their 5-year-old daughter, Quinn, claims Douby had been paying for her home, but recently stopped, forcing her to move in with her parents. “I’ve got a father who makes $2 [million] to $3 million a year and left the child destitute,” Raymond’s lawyer Steven Gildin said in court. Douby claimed that he’s been paying $1,500 a month for his daughter’s entire life and has been providing for all her needs. “It’s just about money for her at this point,” he said of Raymond, his high school sweetheart. The couple split before Quinn was born. “All these basketball shows on TV — girls are watching it and they want that kind of life,” the hoops guard claimed. “At this point, she can have the money. I don’t care,” Douby said. “I want everyone to know I love my daughter.” Do you think he should have to pay up that much? Source Images via Twitter/Daily News
The premise sounds like an Ingmar Bergman film,. starring Liv Ullmann . On Oct. 1, the surviving member of the venerated on- and off-screen couple is slated to be in Manhattan on Oct. 1 to watch herself onscreen: at the U.S. premiere of writer and director Dheeraj Akolkar’s Liv and Ingmar at the 50th anniversary of the New York Film Festival . Told entirely from Ullmann’s point of view and shot at the house Bergman built for the Norwegian actress on the spot in Fårø, Sweden where he declared his love for her, Liv and Ingmar is billed as a “affectionate but truthful” account of the filmmaking couple’s 42-year relationship that spanned 12 movies and a five-year affair. The Swedish filmmaker was 47 when he met and fell for the 25-year-old Ullmann on the set of his landmark Persona in 1965. The auteur and the actress, who were both married at the time, ended up living together for five years, during which Ullmann gave birth to their daughter, Linn Ullmann in 1966. Their friendship and their working relationship continued until Bergman’s death in 2007. “Liv Ullmann and Ingmar Bergman are two legends and like any other film fan I have been in awe of their work for a long time,” Akolkar said in a statement. “But what propels me to make this film is what lies beneath their greatness — this universal and very real story of a man and a woman…[who were] lovers-friends-companions.” The director added: “This film is for everyone who has loved and lost and continued loving.” Liv and Ingmar also utilizes clips and behind-the-scenes footage from the films they made, still photographs, passages from Ullmann’s book Changing and Bergman’s personal letters to his muse. Looks like Taken 2 could be subtitled All in the Family , or maybe Bad-Ass & Daughter . Liam Neeson is back as retired CIA operative Bryan Mills, and based on the plot points covered by the two new trailers posted below, he enlists daughter Kim ( Maggie Grace ), who he gallantly rescued in the first Taken , to assist him in saving her Mom (Famke Janssen) from the bad guys. Turns out the motive for moms kidnapping is familial in nature, too: She’s been taken by the father of the kidnapper Mills killed back in the first flick. And if Neeson didn’t suck you in the first time around with his unflappable, I-will-make-you-regret-ever-messing-with-me charisma, he opens the first trailer by having some fun with his character’s certitude. Taken 2 is directed by the memorably named Olivier Megaton, whose credits include Colombiana and Transporter 3 , and we’re happy to see that the script was written by the same team that made the first Taken such a taut experience: Luc Besson ( The Professional and La Femme Nikita ) and Robert Mark Kamen ( Karate Kid , the Transporter movies), whose Kamen Estate vineyards makes some delicious vino, by the way.
