If this guy was looking for a way to die he was definitely barking up the right tree. According to a KWCH report, a former rising fashion model named Riff Trace was arrested for possession of meth just days after he was arrested and charged with “battery that was bias and racially motivated” after kicking a Black 1-year-old boy in the back violently during a racist rant at a local grocery store. How Riff is still drawing breath and walking the earth after putting his dirty alabaster feet onto a Black infant while calling him n-words is inexplicable, but we digress. The boy’s mother, Lashantai Whitaker, explains what happened: “We were barely in the store and (Trace) kicked him in his back,” Whitaker says. “All I heard was a loud thud and my daughter screaming.” She says Trace tried to get away but another customer tackled him. She says when Trace kicked her son, he came up behind them. She described it like “a sneak attack.” She went on to say: “What grown person, I mean, even if you do have that much hate for someone,… I mean, why would you attack a baby?” Whitaker says. Netflix’s hit film Bird Box took viewers and Twitter by storm and spawned hilarious memes . Unfortunately, it also inspired the Bird Box Challenge, in which people film themselves blindfolded. This is so dangerous that Netflix has put out a PSA begging people to not deliberately blind themselves. Bird Box was a hit on Netflix during this holiday season. It was thrilling and compelling and Sandra Bullock is, as always, an inspired casting choice. Unfortunately, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, as evidenced by people participating in the “Bird Box Challenge.” In the film, the characters must wear blindfolds most of the time in order to avoid being driven to kill themselves by violent apparitions. Some Netflix viewers with too much time on their hands decided to “challenge” themselves to navigate while blindfolded. Whether it’s in their homes or outdoors, the results tend to be either boring, messy, or dangerous. Putting on a blindfold does not magically transform you into the titular character of Daredevil . In fact, outside of the bedroom, it usually just leads to injuries. This is so bad that Netflix themselves have stepped in on social media. In a tweet on Wednesday, Netflix implored their followers to let this trend die as quickly as it sprang into being. “Can’t believe I have to say this,” the tweet begins. “But: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE.” “We don’t know how this started,” Netflix says. “And we appreciate the love,” “But Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019,” the tweet reads. Netflix concludes: “and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.” That’s a pretty good wish. Unlike actual memes, which involve photos and videos and are usually harmless, challenge culture can be dangerous. Popular on video-sharing sites and especially on YouTube, people vie for social media clout by emulating others. The pressure to make your video not only watchable but sensational — in the hopes of going viral — can be dangerous. Participants — especially teens, but also grown-ass adults — can and do endanger themselves in their desperate effort for clicks. Viral fame can transform someone’s life, so they’re willing to risk it all. But you know what else can change your life? A life-altering injury . It’s right there in the name. This of course brings to mind a challenge that was passed around in January of 2018. Harmless memes shared on social media about forbidden snacks — household items that people had resisted eating as children — spawned a challenge. The Tide Pod Challenge was mostly an inflated joke, as people would edit videos to make it appear that they ate laundry detergent. There were people who, perhaps not realizing that the videos were edited, were not in on the joke. A few people tried to earn social media clout by actually putting tide pods into their mouths. Though only a handful of people genuinely participated, we would remind members of the TGH Nation: please do not ingest bleach. Just as you would not ingest dish soap in the hopes of racking up YouTube views, please do not participate in the Bird Box challenge. We don’t know how many people are actually doing it and how many are filming themselves acting out rehearsed blunders. Regardless, actually depriving yourself of eyesight for fun is just a recipe for disaster. Head injuries are no joke. And quite frankly, neither is a stubbed toe. If you had told us that at some point in 2019, there would be controversy involving a photo of Scott Disick and a very young female , our response would have been something along the lines of “no doi!” But we woudn’t have guessed the female would be his daughter, and we certainly never would have predicted the scandal would be racial in nature: On Thursday morning, Scott posted the above photo of himself and his daughter Penelope at what appears to be an Asian-style restaurant. As you can see, Penelope looks to be pulling on her eyelids in such a way as to mock facial features that are often associated with Asian people. Not surprisingly, the backlash from fans was swift and harsh. “I’m Asian and that was racist,” commented one angry follower . “She must have seen someone do it to think it’s okay,” wrote another. “Teach her not to do the Chinese eye thing at a sushi restaurant. Don’t teach her to be a racist. Cause that’s what’s gonna happen,” a third pointed out. A surprising number of commenters were quick to come to Scott’s defense: “She is a little f**king girl making a goofy face in a picture with her dad,” wrote one such fan. “What race of people even have eyes like that???? Seriously get a life, it’s a child who wouldn’t even know what racism is,” commented another. “She is a child. She doesn’t know better and she is lifting her eyes. In fact, one could argue that childhood is simply a succession of increasingly less dumb sh-t, which leads to adulthood, a time in which you endeavor to do less dumb sh-t, because now there’s an increased that it will cost you money. Racism is something far too nefarious and harmful to fall under the relatively innocuous heading of “dumb sh-t,” but when the perpetrator is 6 years old, the problem is almost certainly that they’re being ignorant in the classical sense, and now willfully malicious. The question is, why — instead of correcting his daughter on why that’s not the sort of gesture she should be making under any circumstances but particularly in public — did Scott instead choose to post this image for his 21 million Instagram followers. And why does he have yet to take it down or offer an apology? Scott’s daughter engaged in some very foolish behavior here, it’s true. But it’s Scott who really failed by both failing to take advantage of a teachable moment, and by putting this deeply problematic image out there for all the world to see. First, according to Us Weekly, Ronnie has broken up with long-time girlfriend Jen Harley. Yes, again. Will the split stick this time? Who the heck knows with these two?!? But it sounds like things turned ugly once more between the often-contentious couple, per an anonymous source who told this tabloid the following: “Ronnie and Jen got into a fight on New Year’s Eve. They broke up before New Year’s Eve, got back together right before then and got in a big fight on Monday night. “They’re currently broken up. But it’s the same story every time: They are together, they fight, they break up and then get back together.” Just a few days prior to this latest confrontation, Ronnie and Jen got into the loving holiday spirit by posing with their kids* for some adorable holiday photos. (*Jen has a son from a prior relationship and she welcomed Ronnie’s daughter, Ariana, in early April of last year.) Scroll down for the details on this unexpected situation… A source spoke to Us Weekly yesterday and said the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a residence at about 3:23 a.m. on New Year’s Day concerning a burglary call: “Ronnie was not at the home when the police arrived at the scene. “Jen was not injured, but given the history of police calls between these two, police more than likely provided Jen with information about getting a restraining order, and other things she could do to prevent a escalating domestic violence issue.” Wow, huh? This insider says nothing was taken in the alleged crime, but there was damage to items inside the home. And there is now an ongoing investigation, with authorities likely to contact Ortiz-Magro. Neither Ronnie nor Jen has commented on this investigation. The former, though, has removed any trace of Harley from his Instagram account. Moreover, he Liked a negative remark in which a fan stated that they hoped his daughter “doesn’t grow up to act like her mother.” So, in other words, this may be a new year for Ronnie. But it’s very much the same old drama.
Long before she became the infamous Backdoor Teen Mom , Farrah Abraham was simply a midwestern teenager coping with some very challenging circumstances. It's hard to imagine now, but there was a time when Farrah was the most sympathetic star on 16 and Pregnant , having lost her boyfriend, Derek Underwood, in a car wreck while she was pregnant with his child. The years since have brought tremendous change to Farrah's life, but she still took time to remember Derek on the 10th anniversary of his death last week. Source: Mario Tama / Getty The family of Lanekia Michelle Brown , 37, wants to know why their pregnant loved one recently passed away in a Mississippi jail over the weekend. According to WJTV News , Lanekia was awaiting trial for marijuana trafficking in the Madison County Detention Center when she complained of having stomach pains. By the time the nurse arrived to check on her, Lanekia was dead. She was roughly 3-4 months pregnant. Lanekia Michelle Brown, 37, died at the Madison County, Mississippi Detention Center; she was 3-4 weeks pregnant and complained of stomach pains. “I need to know what happened to her…they won’t tell me or give me no information. That’s my child.” https://t.co/wLEnq7CmP6 — Ethan Brown (@ethanbrown72) December 25, 2018 Lanekia’s family told the news station that on Dec. 23, Mississippi Highway Patrol Officer came to her mother, Margaret Johnson’s, home to inform her that her daughter had died in police custody. “They did CPR on her over and over… still didn’t get no response… So he just said she was gone,” Johnson recalled. After learning of her daughter’s death, Johnson and other family members drove down to the jail to get more information about Lankekia’s death and to collect her belongings. But when they arrived, they were told to come back on Dec. 26 instead. However, when the came back as instructed, the family claims they weren’t able to identify her body. While Lanekia was in the early stages of her pregnancy, her family stressed that the 37-year-old mother of two, didn’t suffer from any other health conditions. The family is clear: They do not trust the authorities’ explanation of what happened to Lanekia and they suspect foul play. “It’s very suspicious because like I said we talked to her and she was okay. If she had any kind of problems, she would have let us know,” a family member told WJTV reporters. In the meantime, Madison County authorities have yet to release a statement on the young mother’s death, but the Mississippi Bureau announced they will be in charge of investigating Lanekia’s case. That, and the results of an autopsy are still pending. Many of us already know that Black women dying police custody isn’t new or rare. Just last week, we reported that Janice Dotson-Stephens’ life, a 61-year-old grandmother of 10, died in a Texas jail after being held on $300 bail since July 17. She was reportedly charged with criminal trespassing and a history of mental illness. While authorities claim that Dotson-Stephen’s death was natural, the coroner’s report has yet to be released to the public. We’re praying for both Lanekia Michelle Brown and Janice Dotson-Stephens’ families. This is a developing story. We will provide updates as they become available.
