Jesus Take The Wheel: Body Of Hispanic Man Found Stabbed To Death At Kentucky Derby

So, folks are getting murked and stabbed up at the Kentucky Derby now: Foul play is suspected in the death of a man whose body was found in a barn behind Churchill Downs just hours after the Kentucky Derby was run at the track. Police have ruled the death a homicide, Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said Sunday. Authorities received a call at about 5 a.m. on Sunday reporting a body found in a barn not far from where I’ll Have Another, the horse that won Saturday’s race, was stabled. There was no identification on the body, but Smiley said the victim is a Hispanic man. She said the cause of death would be determined by the coroner. Police have no suspects. On Saturday, I’ll Have Another, ridden by jockey Mario Gutierrez, won the 138th running of the tradition-rich Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in a stunning finish before a record crowd of more than 165,000 people. Investigators don’t know whether the death is connected to the Kentucky Derby. Source

R.I.P. “Like It Is” Host Gil Noble Dead At 80, Journalist Suffered Stroke Last Summer

“Like It Is” Host, Award-Winning Journalist Gil Noble Passes Away This is another huge loss of yet another legend this week. Gil Noble, the longtime host of WABC-TV’s groundbreaking public affairs program “Like It Is,” on which he interviewed such notables as Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali and Jesse Jackson, died Thursday at age 80. The television station announced the death of the Emmy Award-winning journalist, who had a debilitating stroke last summer, on its website. “Gil Noble’s life and work had a profound effect on our society and culture,” WABC-TV President and General Manager Dave Davis said. “His contributions are a part of history and will be remembered for years to come.” Noble, who was black, joined WABC-TV as a reporter in 1967 and anchored the station’s weekend newscasts the following year. Also in 1968, he became host of “Like It Is,” which focused on issues concerning African-Americans. He was equally as comfortable interviewing heads of state such as Mandela or Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe as he was interviewing entertainers such as Harry Belafonte and Bill Cosby or sports icons such as Ali or Arthur Ashe. Noble also created documentaries on luminaries such as W.E.B. Du Bois, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and Charlie Parker. U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, a friend, said Noble’s legacy “will continue as a trailblazer for African-Americans in journalism.” “For over forty years he was perhaps the nation’s most important black journalist, bringing the struggle for civil rights and black equality into the homes of millions of Americans,” Rangel said. Noble was the recipient of seven Emmy awards and received a lifetime achievement award from the National Association of Black Journalists. He also received five honorary doctorates and was cited with more than 650 awards from various community groups. He had a passion for jazz and was a member of the board of directors of The Jazz Foundation of America. He is survived by his wife, Jean, and five children. Funeral services haven’t yet been announced. Condolences to the Noble family. We are mourning his death along with so many others, as we continue to celebrate his legacy! R.I.P. Ray J Rep Says He Had No Idea Whitney Houston Was Using Cocaine

Rep for Ray J said he was upset about claims that he was Houston’s enabler. By Gil Kaufman Ray J and Whitney Houston Photo: Denise Truscello/WireImage Just hours after the world learned that the Los Angeles County coroner determined that Whitney Houston died
as a result of accidental drowning
with cocaine use and heart disease as contributing factors, the finger pointing began. Leolah Brown, the sister of Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, went on the “Dr. Drew” show on HLN on Thursday night and made some salacious allegations aimed at Houston’s frequent companion, singer Ray J. Leolah claimed that she saw Ray J leaving Houston’s hotel room in a hurry on the night of her death in February. “I saw Ray J coming out of the hotel, hiding his head, being pushed into the car,” she told Drew. “Why? I looked and I said, ‘why is he hiding his face?’ He’s always trying to show his face when he’s around Whitney. Why now? Why are you trying to hide now Ray J?” She went on to allege that Ray J was never Houston’s boyfriend, as widely reported, but that he was her “runner boy,” and that he often fetched and gave her drugs. Drew said that CNN/HLN could not independently confirm Leolah Brown’s claims. But a spokesperson for Ray J denied the allegations, telling TMZ that he had no knowledge that Houston was using again before her death. Furthermore, the unnamed rep said Ray J was not even with Houston on the day she died, but was in San Diego. While a final coroner’s report is not due for two more weeks, the initial report claims that traces of cocaine were found in Houston’s system at the time of death along with anti-anxiety drug Xanax, muscle relaxant Flexeril, marijuana and Benadryl, which officials said played no role in her death. No cocaine was found in the singer’s room when she died, but coroner spokesman Craig Harvey noted that cocaine metabolites were found in her system, leading them to conclude that Houston was a chronic user of the drug. A number of prescription pills were recovered in the Beverly Hills hotel room, but officials from the coroner’s office said there wasn’t an unusual amount of medication. Biggie’s ‘Everyday Struggle’ A Highlight For Lil’ Cease

‘I was too young to understand everything in it, but I understood everything in it,’ Cease tells MTV News of 1994 track. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Notorious B.I.G. Photo: Bad Boy The Notorious B.I.G. had plenty of hit singles, like “Big Poppa” and “Hypnotize,” but more often than not, his album cuts were just as memorable. He may have only given fans two albums before he died on March 9, 1997, but Biggie crafted a catalog that is still celebrated 15 years after his death . Songs like “Gimme the Loot” and “Ten Crack Commandments” resonated with fans without music videos or radio play. Till this day, one of Lil’ Cease’s favorite B.I.G. songs is “Everyday Struggle,” from Big’s 1994 debut, Ready to Die. “I’m sure I was about 13,14,” Cease said, recalling his age when his friend first tracked the record. “I was too young to understand everything in it, but I understood everything in it.” On” Everyday Struggle,” the Notorious B.I.G. rapped with a hustler’s remorse. Rather than brag about his crack sales, like rappers often do, Big painted a picture of the downside of the street life. He rhymed about his mother’s disappointment with his lifestyle, the murder of his close friend “Two Techs” and horrific dope-fiend binges. “I don’t wanna live no mo’/ Sometimes I hear death knockin’ at my front door/ I’m living every day like a hustle, another drug to juggle/ Another day, another struggle,” he rapped on the hook. “Just that right there was our story. I was out there 11, 12 years old trying to do that, trying to hustle, trying to get out there and make money,” Cease said. Lil’ Cease estimates that Biggie was 19 years old when he recorded “Everyday Struggle”; to be able to paint such a vivid picture at such a young age was a rarity. “Just the music, the beat, the production and then the way Big was rhymin’ — me knowing Big was only 19 years old when he was writin’ all that stuff,” he said. “I watched Puffy listen to it, I watched [Hot 97 DJ] Mister Cee and [former Source magazine editor] Matty C and ’em listen to it. They was lookin’ at Big like he was a robot. “It just made me feel proud because I was actually a part of that,” Cease said. Diddy Chooses His Favorite Track From B.I.G.’s Life After Death

‘People are buying that album every day. It’s a classic album,’ Diddy tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Diddy The Notorious B.I.G. had high hopes for his second LP, Life After Death. “I want people to buy [my new] album and just straight up say, ‘Yo, he’s the best. He’s the best ever. He’s the best that ever did it,’ ” Biggie said in a 1997 Source magazine interview before he was murdered on March 9, 1997. Big never got to see the public’s reaction to his 24-track, double-disc masterpiece — it was released on March 25, 16 days after his death. Fifteen years and 10 million copies later, there is no denying the power of LAD. Biggie mixed inescapable singles like “Hypnotize,” “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and “Sky’s the Limit” with dark and brooding underground classics like “Ten Crack Commandments” and the DJ Premier-produced “Kick in the Door.” Everyone has their favorites, even the Notorious B.I.G.’s friend and Bad Boy CEO Sean “Diddy” Combs. “Aww man, Life After Death ? It would probably have to be …,” Diddy responded when Sway asked him to pick his #1 LAD track while the two were on the set of a Miami video shoot in January. ” ‘My Downfall,’ ‘My Downfall’ is my favorite joint.” The Hitmen-produced track is a gut-wrenching display of Brooklyn bravado. “My Downfall” is prefaced by a skit in which Biggie receives death threats over the phone, exemplifying the type of resentment that Big’s success brought out in his detractors. With rap legend DMC on the song’s hook and Diddy adding fiery ad libs, B.I.G. eerily pondered his own death. “Dying ain’t the sh–, but it’s pleasant,” he rapped as if he were foretelling his own fate. It was a theme that was revisited quite a few times on the classic rap LP, particularly on the album-closing “You’re Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You).” For the album’s 15-year anniversary, Diddy said he is planning to release a remastered version of Life After Death, but beyond that, not much else. “We basically gonna let it rock, we have promoted it, promoted his legacy through movies, documentaries, albums, remixed albums, new albums and now it’s time for the fans to have it,” he said. “On the 15th anniversary, we’ll definitely make sure that there is a remastered copy out there, but besides that we’re not gonna do anything extra to extra push it. People are buying that album every day. It’s a classic album and they’re gonna keep on buying it.” A representative from Bad Boy Records told MTV News that at press time there was no Life After Death remastered LP on the label’s release schedule.
