Crystal Bowersox Debut Album Sales: Not Terrible

It could have been worse for Crystal Bowersox. A month after American Idol champion Lee DeWyze watched his debut album sell fewer copies during its first week of release than any CD in show history, Crystal’s “Farmer’s Daughter” moved 57,804 units. That figure was good enough for number-28 on the Billboard 200 Chart. It was also about 20,000 more sales than her fellow finalist’s initial effort. Among other American Idol alums, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia and Daughtry also earned spots this week on the Billboard 200.

Rachel Uchitel Speaks on Celebrity Rehab Stint, Battle With "Love Addiction"

In a rare TV interview, Tiger Woods’ famed mistress Rachel Uchitel spoke on the Today Show about her addiction to love and how that led her astray. Appearing alongside her Celebrity Rehab mentor, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Rache promoted her stint on the VH1 program and explained why she went on it. “I knew that I needed help,” Uchitel, who claims she went on the program to deal with her love addiction. “And I wanted to get it from Dr. Drew.” Uchitel she needs help … and had some lip injections . The 35-year-old all-pro mistress also said she was being treated for addiction to Ambien and other prescribtion medications, which she did not identify. Dr. Dew said Rachel Uchitel’s condition is partly triggered by traumatic events in her past, such as the premature deaths of her father and fiance Andy. She was set to get married before he perished in the 9/11 attacks. “People think it is a moral issue if somebody falls in love, all over the place,” Uchitel said. “It is not, it is a disease and disorder; you feel like you have a hole in your heart and are waiting for a knight in shining armor to come and save you.” In her case, that knight must be married and famous. “But it is not an excuse for anyone’s behavior. You get stuck in relationships that are not right; you put a mask over somebody and pretend they’re somebody they’re not. You get disappointed when they don’t react the way you want.” Pretty much what happened with David Boreanaz . Fortunately, “I’m a completely different person now than I was before I went on the show,” Uchitel said of the “most intense” Celebrity Rehab season yet. The show premieres Wednesday. Don’t miss it.

Hometown Girl Malin Åkerman on the Toronto Premiere of Bang Bang Club

Pick any random film that’s opened in the last year, and odds are about 50/50 that Malin Åkerman starred in some capacity. OK, so I exaggerate, but let me put it this way: A week after interviewing Åkerman for her film The Romantics — which opened last week in limited release — the Swedish-Canadian actress is in Toronto for the world premiere of her latest effort The Bang-Bang Club . Busy!

Animal Kingdom Director David Michôd on the Ups and Downs of His Acclaimed Debut

Nearly seven months after his debut feature Animal Kingdom wowed Sundance , found American distribution and repurposed Air Supply’s “All Out of Love” in the most harrowing way possible , writer-director David Michôd is readying for the rest of America’s reaction to the Australian crime-family drama. If the critics are any indication, he has nothing to worry about — except, maybe, how to follow it up.

Nicki Minaj Says Pink Friday Is ‘Progressing Miraculously’

‘It’s coming out way better than I could even have imagined,’ Minaj says of debut album. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj’s Barbie army is likely to create a frenzy at stores when the rapper drops her debut LP, Pink Friday, on November 23. Speaking to MTV News on the video set of her Trey Songz collabo, “Bottoms Up,” the Young Money diva updated her fans about how the album is coming along. “The album is progressing miraculously, I would say,” Minaj said. “It’s coming out way better than I could even have imagined or dreamed or hoped for.” The Queens MC has made her mark with a slew of collaborations, from her girl-power breakup anthem with Mariah Carey, “Up Out My Face,” to the sexed-up bars she dropped on Usher’s “Lil Freak.” However, the raptress revealed that she’s enjoying the process of creating solo records, where she is the main focus and not just the memorable feature. “It’s been very exciting to finally just make music that I love and not really having to incorporate myself on someone else’s record,” Minaj said. “I’ve been having a really great time.” Minaj also singled out a Pink Friday track that she said has the potential to be a major hit. “I have a record called ‘Right Through Me’ that I think will be a standout,” Minaj said. “It’s not gonna come right now. It’ll come closer to when the album drops, but it’s a really, really pretty song. Everyone’s gonna like it.” The MC also discussed the appeal of the record, saying, “It’s just really insightful but in a very conversational kind of way.” Minaj also said she’s been mulling how the album cover for her debut will shape up and only revealed that it will be “very fetch.” While the MC remained mum on the details, she did speak about what makes an eye-catching cover. “[A good album cover is] something that tells your own personal truth,” said Minaj, citing Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die cover as one of her favorites. “Something that’s not just trying to catch someone’s attention, but rather … kind of feels like a part of your soul, a part of your creative expression.” What are you expecting for Nicki’s debut? Drake Reveals His Biggest Thank Me Later Regrets

The rapper laments one early leak and two songs he wishes were on the album. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake Photo: MTV News One of the most ambitious tracks on Drake ‘s Thank Me Later is The-Dream duet “Shut It Down,” a sweeping number about seduction that clocks in at nearly seven minutes. Unfortunately for Drake, an unfinished version of the song leaked three months before the release of his debut album. The final product is a slow-grinding effort that comes to a climax with a Drake rap after the pair croon throughout their respective verses. A second leak, “Darlin’ ” featuring Lil Wayne, and the “9 AM in Dallas” freestyle, an urgent battle-style rap — both of which were recorded after Thank Me Later ‘s deadline — are pretty much the only faults Drake found with his debut. “The saddest part to me is that I would have made ‘9 AM in Dallas’ the intro for the album, but I did it the day of mastering, which is crazy, so it couldn’t make the album,” Drake told MTV News. “That’s probably my greatest upset, was the fact that it couldn’t be on the physical disc and be a part of that album. ‘Darlin’ ‘ was a loss just because it was never mixed, and every time I hear it in the club, you can never really hear the words. I think the words are the best part of that song. I think Wayne painted such a vivid picture. I tried to come in and add my little two cents at the end. “Most of the music made it,” he continued. “Most of the music we held for a long time, and the stuff that did leak, it was pretty good references. It wasn’t anything I was too upset about. ‘Shut It Down’ leaking early was painful. I think it could have been a bigger record had it not been out there so long. And ‘Fall for Your Type’ I wish was on there, but I have other plans for that record, so it’s gonna be good.” Despite records leaking and the Toronto lyricist’s album arriving online before its June 15 due date, Drake told MTV News on the day of Thank Me Later ‘s release that he never considered changing his plans for putting the project out. “They tried to force me into a situation — I’m not sure if it was the label — [but] somebody tried to force me into a situation and drop the album June 9,” Drake said. “I really was like, ‘June 9 isn’t enough time to let them digest all the leaked music. If they got the music already, let’s let them listen to it. Let’s give them that two weeks to ride around to it and talk to their friends about it.’ ‘Cause that way, when they show up to the store, there’s no pressure — you know what you’re buying. You’re just going to support an artist you love and music you believe in.” What do you think of Drake’s take on his debut album? Tell us in the comments, or tweet @MTVRapFix ! Related Artists Drake
