The young couple that was once burnin’ up for each other has decided to call it quits. Camp Rock stars Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato have ended their romantic relationship but say their friendship is still going strong. The middle Jonas tells People , “It was my choice to break up but I love her as a friend” and “I will continue to be her friend and be there for her.” Despite rumors, Demi says she has not moved on and nothing is more important to her than the relationship she has with her fans. The Disney sensations first met while on the set of Camp Rock in 2007 and will continue to tour together this summer.

It seems like only last week Demi Lovato was gushing about Joe Jonas and even thanking fans for her relationship with the singer. Oh, wait… it was! Now, just days later, “impeccable sources” allegedly tell Perez Hilton that Jonas has ended it with Lovato – in an astoundingly, hilariously immature way. “Joe had his dad call Demi to break things off,” an insider claims . We’re working to verify the rumor of this break-up and the way in which it was supposedly handled. But we can say this: Perez Hilton may be a self-serving, talentless moron who draws penises on photos because he finds that funny, but he does typically come through with reliable information. Fortunately, pals of Demi say the recent Grey’s Anatomy guest star “had a good cry” but is doing okay: “Demi is single and already exploring her options.” Hear that, Nick Jonas? Make the call! Demi and Joe are still expected to go on tour together this summer. That could be more awkward than a meeting between LeBron James and Delonte West .

Demi Lovato isn’t simply speaking publicly for the first time about boyfriend Joe Jonas. She’s positively gushing over the singer and even thanking fans for getting them together! In an interview with Us Weekly , Demi says it was “scary” to come out “to the public eye,” but… “I think ultimately, everyone who knows us knows that we’ll always be best friends, no matter what happens… We’ve always had an incredible bond, an incredible friendship. He knows me better than I know myself, and I know him better than he knows himself.” Aww, is it getting dusty in here, or is that just us? Interestingly, Demi went on to give you and me credit for her and Joe’s relationship. “There’s been so many times where if it wasn’t for our fans, I don’t know if we’d be together, because they’ve opened up my eyes to seeing – because I thought I was the only one who had a crush,” she said. Pity Joe Jonas … and any guy in a committed relationship. Sometimes, the girlfriend/wife makes you do stuff you don’t want to, like watch Grey’s Anatomy . Although at least in Joe’s case, his girl’s gonna be on the show. “I don’t think [Joe] has ever watched, but I’m gonna make him,” Demi Lovato says of tonight’s episode, in which she guest stars a patient with mental issues. “I’m gonna show him how amazing it is.” Demi herself clearly doesn’t need much convincing in that regard. You won’t believe how the Disney star acted when she met the cast before her guest role. “Um, hi! Can I just say hi? I’m just…a really big fan.” Spoken like a true fangirl. “I just saw Teddy, and Owen, and the Chief, and I got really starstruck!” WHIPPED : There’s no other excuse for watching Grey’s Anatomy … just kidding. Earlier in the day, Lovato Tweeted: “Played lose the paparazzi this morning on the highway. I won. American Idol viewers received a double live treat last night. The results show, which saw voters send Paige Miles home , also saw a triple teen threat of Miley Cyrus, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato bringing the house down. For all our criticisms of Miley, you have to give her credit, the girl is a good live vocalist, a true stage presence with a husky, powerful voice beyond her years. Although the writhing and spontaneous convulsions during the chorus of “When I Look at You,” her track from The Last Song? No idea what’s going on there. Perhaps Liam Hemsworth knows a little something about it: When I Look at You Live What did you think of Miley Cyrus on Idol? Did she bring her A-game? Are you psyched for her first huge non-Hannah Montana role, as she focuses on acting? In addition to Miley, new couple and dueling music stars Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato performed “Make a Wave.” They certainly did in real life by coupling up.
