Another State Wants To Ban Saggy Pants And Twitter Can’t Deal

See original here:

Source: Roberto Machado Noa / Getty The anti-baggy pants crew strikes again! Some might remember Mississippi lawmaker Tom Weathersby  proposing a bill that would ban saggy pants a year ago . Low riding offenders could face punishment ranging from a warning to a $100 fine, depending on the number of offenses. Now, South Carolina is on the same wave length. Republican and Democrat lawmakers alike co-sponsored a bill that would make it illegal for anyone to wear their pants “three inches below” the top of their hips, according to WLTX . Violation of the law could result in a $25 fine for the first offense or at the most extreme, a $75 fine plus six hours of community service for a third or more violation. “We have to lead by example,” Charleston County Representative Wendell Gilliard   said . “The pants now are being worn below the knees.” Folks were not here for another lecture on pants-sagging. Considering the current fight for gun control in many states, a little underwear glimpse was the least of people’s problems. Swipe through to peep the backlash (and sarcasm) from folks on social media.

Eric Trump Thinks Ellen DeGeneres is Part of "The Deep State"

Eric Trump is totally on to Ellen DeGeneres. She may play all calm and cool and funny and happy and peaceful and loving on television, but the President’s son knows what’s really going on here. And he’s finally come out and revealing his truth to the world… … Ellen DeGeneres is a key member of The Deep State! This is a term often thrown around by Sean Hannity and other like-minded conservatives. It gained momentum during the 2016 Presidential campaign after being trumpeted by ex-White House strategist Steve Bannon and it refers to an alleged shadowy entity of civil servants. This shadowy entity of civil servants purportedly coordinates efforts and policies behind-the-scenes to delegitimize the Donald Trump administration. Many members of the mainstream press, someone like Eric Trump would argue, are working with The Deep State to bring down the commander-in-chief. How does Ellen fit in? What has she done to earn this reputation? It’s unclear. But consider the following Tweet by Eric Trump, which has gone viral for its hilarious accusation: “Shocking… once again, here are the @Twitter “suggestions” of who I should follow. #DeepState,” wrote Eric as a caption to the screen capture of who Twitter thinks he may want to follow. One person listed there is the previous President of the United States. Another person listed there is the candidate Donald Trump defeated to become President. (If either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton are members of the supposed Deep State, well, they aren’t very deep undercover.) And the third person is beloved talk show host, comedian and former American Idol judge, Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen is very likely a Democrat, but she actually isn’t very outspoken when it comes to politics. Yes, she once sent a message to Donald Trump that was based around Finding Dory. But she mostly talks on her show about love and respect and hope , which… okay, nevermind. We get it now. These aren’t exactly Donald Trump-espoused values, are they? As you might expect, Eric Trump’s Tweet has become quite a source of ridicule on social media. Some folks are trying to teach him how Twitter works (“I know you’re not the smart one, but Twitter’s algorithm looks at who you searched for most recently when making suggestions. It looks like you might have recently searched for a Democrat, buddy.”) … … while others are just openly mocking him. To wit: Said another user, pretty much summing up Eric’s statement: This is the most unintentionally hilarious tweet of the very very new year! Fast forward 362 days and we have a feeling it may remain the most unintentionally hilarious Tweet of the year. Good luck, trying to top it, everyone else on the planet. This is gonna be a challenge.

Roy Moore Is Not Black Voters’ Burden, It’s White Folks’ Job To Gather Their People

Read more here:

T he world is watching as the people of Alabama prepare to place their ballots today. Their vote will determine who will be one of America’s newest Senators, namely Republican Roy Moore or Democrat Doug Jones, in a race that will shape critical U.S. policies. And while some pundits may believe Black people s hould summon their magic  to keep an accused misogynist and proven racist out of office,  it is not the sole responsibility of Black Alabamians to ensure the winning vote . Democracy is a project for all, especially those who need to do all they must to loosen their longheld and tight grip on the type power that has harmed Black people in the U.S. The differences between the candidates mirror the divisiveness present in national politics. The candidates’ positions are opposite ideologically and practically. Moore is a  white supremacist, and alleged sexual harassment perpetrator  (and child predator) who supports a blatantly sexist, anti-Muslim, and homopbobic agenda. In 2004, when a bipartisan coalition sought to symbolically erase Alabama’s constitution of its segregationist language Roy Moore was the effort’s  Staunchest Detractor . In stark contrast, Doug Jones is a civil rights activist who has  advanced progressive transformation in the criminal justice system throughout his career. His most notable action as a prosecutor involved convicting the three white domestic terrorists who bombed the  16th Street Church  in Birmingham during the 1964 crime that has been linked to the Klu Klux Klan. Four black girls were killed and the nation was morally injured. Keeping Moore Out of Office May Appear To Be The Easiest Way To Advance Black Communities In Alabama, But Black People Are Not The Majority Bloc Upholding Or Supporting Moore As If He Is Christ’s Chosen Leader. Share Given the stark differences that color the candidates’ careers, media outlets have been discussing voter behavior in terms of the Black and white vote. For example, this week’s stories in the  New York Times ,  NBC , and  The Los Angeles Times    promote the idea that if Roy Moore wins it will be because Black Alabamians did not show up to the polls—as if Black voters, and not the white voting bloc that bolsters Moore’s career, are to blame. Moore Is Not Black People’s Responsibility The idea that Black people must carry the burden of this country’s failure to exercise democracy is a notion that reminds me of a quote from Richard Wright. In  Black Boy,  he writes “My life as a Negro in America had led me to feel . . . that the problem of human unity was more important than bread, more important than physical living itself; for I felt that without a common bond uniting men . . . there could be no living worthy of being called human .”  Here, Wright notes that political discourse in the United States always places Black people in the position of responsibility. Black people, the thinking goes, must always place the principle of national freedom before our collective needs as a people. But, nah. The National Urban League’s (NUL) 2017   State of Black America  report lists various gains made by Black people under the Obama Administration, along with the prevalence of enduring economic, educational and health disparities between Black and white America. In the report, NUL President Marc Morial discusses what is needed to secure and advance these improvements. The report outlines the effects of a long history of systematic oppression that continues to prevail and remains in tact through the actions of political leaders like Moore. And that is why Black people’s focus should be on prioritizing the security of their households and communities and not an unpromised concept of freedom. Source: Drew Angerer / Getty Media Must Point Out The Real Problem, And Black People Aren’t It Keeping Moore out of office may appear to be the easiest way to advance Black communities in Alabama, but Black people are not the majority bloc upholding or  supporting Moore as if he is Christ’s chosen leader . Black people, to be very clear, are not lending their vote to a man accused of sexually harassing several women when they were girls, a white man who also believes the days of chattel slavery in the U.S. had glorious moments. During the GOP runoff, Black people took note when the  the  Los Angeles Times  documented Moore’s most historically inaccurate and offensive quote this year. The  LA Times  reported, “In response to a question from one of the only African Americans in the audience — who asked when Moore thought America was last ‘great’ — Moore acknowledged the nation’s history of racial divisions, but said: ‘I think it was great at the time when families were united — even though we had slavery — they cared for one another…. Our families were strong, our country had a direction.’” If Moore Wins It Will Be Because White People Elected Him. Share Moore seems to forget that Black families were destroyed during enslavement, but one must first be aware of history to no longer remember it. Either way, it seems safe to say that the descendants of enslaved African people will not support a candidate whose willful ignorance echoes that of a treasonist Confederate. Voting, however, can be an act of self care and harm reduction. Black people have shown overwhelming support for Jones. Polls for today’s race  in Alabama show that he has 93 percent of the Black vote and just 33 percent of the white vote. This makes sense given Moore’s record on civil rights and the actual needs of Black people in Alabama. What remains most shocking, if only because it is to be expected, is the support that Moore receives from white constituents. The decision to operationalize the ideals of an American democracy, one that supports the participation and livelihood of all people, depends on the support of the majority of citizens. Here in the U.S. that majority is comprised of white people. As is the case in most special elections, there is an expectation for low voter turnout today. For this and many other reasons credible pollsters are  unable to predict  today’s winner. This is a tragedy that white people must own, but therein lies the problem media refuses to center on: if Moore wins it will be because white people elected him. Moore is white folks’ candidate and his support is their acknowledgment that white interests will always trump democracy and national safety. Joy-Anna Duggar & Austin Forsyth: Wedding Registry Revealed!

It’s only been a month since we learned that Joy-Anna Duggar is engaged to Austin Forsyth , but relationships move fast in Duggar Land.  Like, extremely fast. Like, hand-holding to picking out baby names in a matter of weeks fast. It’s strange, but we guess it’s to be expected of kids who are forbidden to engage in just about any type of physical contact before their wedding night. And the word “kid” definitely applies to Joy-Anna, who just turned 19 in October. But apparently Joy-Anna’s age belies a stern practicality, as reflected in her no-frills wedding registry. The wish list – posted to TheKnot.com and obtained by Radar Online – features such items as a $55 wet-dry vacuum, a belt sander, a jigsaw, a toolkit, and a table saw. Either these two are planning some major DIY projects, or they’re hoping to get into some seriously weird stuff in the bedroom. But it won’t be all woodwoking and cleaning up after yourself in the Forsyth household. No, these two are planning to hit the town. Hard. And when we say “hard,” we mean they’re gonna enjoy themselves some free cheddar bay biscuits. Yes, Joy-Anna and Austin also requested gift cards to Panera, Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden and Red Lobster. The Cracker Barrel choice says “traditional Arkansan couple,” but Panera screams “look out, y’all! Couple of wild Millennials here! One of us might just mess around and develop a gluten intolerance or vote for a very conservative Democrat!” But in case you were concerned that these two are getting a little big for their britches, fear not: The registry also includes requests for linens, towels, and tableware, all in plain shades of gray. You really can’t overstate how sheltered the Duggar kids are, so the phrase “shades of gray” probably doesn’t conjure the same image for Joy-Anna that it does for you. At 19, Joy-Anna is the youngest Duggar girl of her generation to be married off, and some fans have expressed concern over how quickly all of this seems to be happening. Joy-Anna and Austin only courted for four months before he proposed and she accepted. View Slideshow: Joy-Anna Duggar: 13 Things to Know About Me! That’s fast even by Duggar standards, and naturally, it’s led to rumors that Joy-Anna and Austin violated courtship rules and are now rushing to the altar in a shotgun-type situation. We may never know for sure, but we’ll be on the lookout for paparazzi photos of a young pregnant woman making her way into Red Lobster with a handful of gift cards.

A longtime Democrat, Washington successfully beat Republican Bill Veitch by a narrow margin. “I am honored,” Washington said. “It has been a humbling experience.” But when she began her campaign more than a year ago she had not even thought of the potential significance if she were elected, Washington said. “I had no clue of the history I was making,” she said. Chloe Grace Moretz Sets Aside Khloe Kardashian Feud to Endorse Hillary Clinton

Last night, Hillary Clinton accepted the Democrat’s nomination and became the first female major-party candidate in United States history. It was a historic moment, and some of Hollywood’s biggest stars were on hand to celebrate. Bradley Cooper was at the DNC to support Clinton and prove once and for all that he is not actually an American sniper. View Slideshow: Bradley Cooper Attends DNC, Causes Total Republican Meltdown Katy Perry sang at the convention and sadly, she didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to throw shade at Taylor Swift. Katy was an apt choice, as like Clinton, she has experience butting heads with a privileged blonde who weirdly appeals to Southerners. Speaking of feuds, Chloe Grace Moretz – who, over the past week, has become wrapped up in an increasingly ugly war with Khloe Kardashian  – took time to encourage young people to register to vote. The 19-year-old actress shared the story of her own registration process and offered some inspiring words on what it meant: Chloe Grace Moretz at the DNC “It took just a minute,” she said, “but it gave me the power of a lifetime, the power to make my voice heard and to shape the future of our country.” “So just imagine, imagine what can happen if we all make our voices heard this November at the ballot box,” the Kick-Ass star said. “We can elect a president who will fight to give every American a chance to graduate from college debt-free. We can elect a president who will fight for equal pay for equal work.” Inspiring stuff that’s reminiscent of Kendall Jenner’s “get out the vote” campaign. All-in-all, it must have been a confusing night for the Kardashian-Jenner clan. A candidate that Kim endorsed accepted the nomination; a singer they’re friends with gave the performance, but someone that Khloe’s been harassing on Twitter gave one of the night’s most talked-about speeches. This election is tearing the family apart, and someone needs to make the Kardashians great again! Just kidding, they were never great. View Slideshow: Hillary Clinton at the DNC: What Did She Say?

Sarah Silverman Delivers Line of the DNC

In an election that features one side running the former host of Celebrity Apprentice, it's only fitting that a comedian delivered what may have been the line of the Democratic National Convention on Monday night, right? To open primetime coverage of the event, Sarah Silverman stood alongside Senator Al Franken. The two awkwardly riffed for a few moments, often hearing chants of “Bernie! Bernie!” throughout the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. These chants emanated from extremely loyal Bernie Sanders supporters. They were so loyal, in fact, and some felt so strongly that their candidate deserved to be the Democratic nominee over Hillary Clinton, that some vowed to either not vote for Clinton or even vote for Donald Trump. Which seems like utter insanity for a Democrat to do. That's where Silverman came in on Monday. One of the most outspoken Bernie Sanders supporters during his primary race, the comedian could not handle the madness for another moment. “Can I say something? To the ‘Bernie or Bust’ people, you’re being ridiculous,” she said. As you can see below, the remark was mostly met with loud cheers. Soon enough, however, the “Bernie!” chants started up again and Silverman was forced to quip: “Thank God they can fix this in post.” That's a pretty great line (the speech aired live, of course). What do you think of Silverman's quote? Is it her place to make such a judgment? Does the Sanders crowd have a right to be upset and voice their opinion? Or, in the name of party unity, should they suck it up at this point and vote for a candidate who still shares many more values with Sanders than Donald Trump? Watch Silverman deliver her line below and then watch the reaction of those in attendance:

‘Let’s Be Honest, He’s A Loser’ Elizabeth Warren Unloads On ‘Serious Threat’ Donald Trump

Political shade files … Elizabeth Warren Claps Back At Donald Trump After blasting each other back and forth in the press, the political shade fest between Senator Elizabeth Warren and Donald Trump has reached new heights. The Democrat took to her social media platforms today to air out Trump for being a “loser” who “cheats people with scams” and has insecurities like “cheap racism” and “narcissism.” According to Warren it’s time for people to”wake up” and lobby against him. Amen… Trump previously told The New York Times that Warren was a “fraud” with little to no [Cherokee] Indian blood. “I think it’s wonderful because the Indians can now partake in the future of the country. She’s got about as much Indian blood as I have. Her whole life was based on a fraud. She got into Harvard and all that because she said she was a minority.”   How long before he claps back this time??? AP Images
