Seriously??? House Republicans Clear A Way For Government Lawsuit Against President Obama

Are there any lengths the Republicans won’t go to? House Republicans Gear Up To Sue President Obama Via WashingtonPost : House Republicans voted to proceed with a lawsuit against President Obama on Wednesday, saying that his executive actions are so extreme that they violate the Constitution. The nearly party-line vote — all Democrats voted against it, and all but five Republicans voted for it — further agitated an already polarized climate on Capitol Hill as both parties used the pending suit to try to rally support ahead of the November elections. Halfway across the continent, Obama almost gloated at the prospect of being sued. “They’re going to sue me for taking executive actions to help people. So they’re mad I’m doing my job,” Obama said in an economics speech in Kansas City, Mo. “And by the way, I’ve told them I’d be happy to do it with you. The only reason I’m doing it on my own is because you’re not doing anything,” he said of Congress. The lawsuit is the culmination of heightened conflict since Obama took office in 2009, particularly since Boehner became speaker more than three years ago. It is also unprecedented in its nature. Plenty of congressmen, of both parties, have filed lawsuits or briefs in support of suits against presidents. Generally, federal judges dismiss the cases because usually only those affected by the law had standing to file suit. Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (N.Y.), the ranking Democrat on the Rules Committee, called it a “monumental waste of time, energy and funds” that was designed only to encourage conservative voters to back Republicans this fall. “This is a political maneuver timed to peak as Americans are going to the polls in November for the midterm elections,” Slaughter said. “This lawsuit is the drumbeat pushing members of the Republican Party to impeachment.” “Stop being mad all the time. Stop just hatin’ all the time,” Obama said at the Uptown Theater. “Everyone sees this as a political stunt, but it’s worse than that because every vote they’re taking . . . means a vote they’re not taking to help people.” You’d think with 7 years of Obama having been in office, these racists Republicans would get over it and try to come to some practical solutions for our issues, rather than just whining, pulling stunts, and throwing up roadblocks to everything our President has to do.

Race Matters: White Missouri School District Sends Poor Black Kids Back To Failed Schools

Hundreds of mostly poor minority students who used a controversial Missouri law to transfer out of failing schools will be sent back to their home districts next school year , following a tense battle in the legislature and a slew of politically charged decisions by the department of education. Whit School District Sends Poor Black Kids Back To Failed Schools Via The Grio reports: The reversal puts the academic fate of some of the state’s most needy and disadvantaged students at risk. Last summer, the Missouri Supreme Court upheld an earlier ruling that allowed students from unaccredited school districts to transfer to better schools. Thousands of students from the African-American suburbs of St. Louis streamed across the border to much wealthier, white districts and better-performing schools closer to home. But the exodus triggered a number of unexpected consequences. The failing districts were financially responsible for paying all transfer-related expenses, including tuition and transportation costs. As a result, the transfers nearly crippled one school district in particular, the Normandy schools, which has paid about $10.4 million to a dozen different school districts. The costs for the Normandy district, which is about 97% black and whose student body is deeply impoverished, forced the legislature to appropriate supplemental funding to keep it afloat. Attempts by the legislature to tweak the law to alleviate some of the burdens placed on schools by the transfer law were stymied when Gov. Jay Nixon, a Democrat, threatened to veto a proposed bill. The legislature’s intransigence forced the issue back to the state board of education. The board recently voted to replace the Normandy School District with a new district, the Normandy Schools Collaborative, effective July 1. The new district includes the same boundaries and schools as the old district, but by changing its name, the district is now no longer unaccredited and therefore eligible under the transfer law. The decision to rebrand the district has offered a legal loophole to the districts that had reluctantly and begrudgingly accepted the minority transfers in the first place. Last Friday, school leaders at the well-off Francis Howell district announced that they would no longer accept incoming transfer students and that about 400 students who had previously transferred to the district this school year would no longer be welcomed. “FHSD has consistently held the belief that transferring students from an unaccredited school district is not the solution to improving struggling schools and that the funds spent on tuition and transportation for transfer students can be more effectively spent on educating the whole Normandy student population,” read a statement released by the Francis Howell School District. “Children have a right and a need to have quality schools in their neighborhood.” The financially strapped and academically struggling Normandy School District paid Francis Howell more than $4 million in tuition costs and nearly a million in transportation costs. This is an example of poor legislation that resulted in unintended (though some might say intended) consequences. Discuss…

Cory Booker Elected to U.S. Senate in Special Election

Cory Booker, the charismatic mayor of Newark, is now a member of the U.S. Senate from New Jersey after winning a special election on Wednesday. The Democrat, heavily favored in polls, defeated conservative Republican Steve Lonegan. Booker had an 11-point lead with the vote 90 percent counted. Booker, 44, spoke to supporters in Newark and thanked them for turning out to vote against the backdrop of the 16-day government shutdown . “You didn’t just vote, you believed that your vote and choice mattered,” he said. “It would have been easy to listen to this frustrating negativity and stay home.” “But here in New Jersey, more than a million people rejected cynicism and came out on a Wednesday, in the middle of October, to fight the cynicism.” Booker is the first black U.S. Senator from New Jersey and joins Republican Tim Scott of South Carolina as the nation’s only two black U.S. senators. He will fill the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Frank Lautenberg, who died in June at age 89. Booker had planned to run for this seat in 2014. Lautenberg’s passing prompted a special election, however, and Gov. Chris Christie, who is running for re-election now, set the October 16 date. Christie, like Booker a possible White House contender in 2016 or down the road, could have scheduled the Senate race for Election Day, November 5. Democrats said was avoiding being on the ballot with Booker, who could attract Democratic turnout. He said he wanted to fill the Senate vacancy ASAP. Booker, a Rhodes scholar and Yale Law School graduate, rocketed to fame in the state’s largest city, which has long struggled with poverty and crime. Booker is known to rub shoulders with celebrities and is a near-constant presence on Twitter, where he recently befriended stripper Lynsie Lee . Newark received a $100 million gift to its schools from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who said he had met Booker and was impressed by his plans. A bachelor, Booker has long been rumored as a future presidential candidate. Whether that happens or not, he’s one step closer to it being possible now.

Race Matters: White FSU Student Under Investigation After ‘Monkeys Everywhere” Social Media Post Insulting Black Students Goes Viral

White FSU Student Under Investigation Over Racist Social Media Post A Florida State University student who claims the racist messages directed towards her fellow minority students that came from her Twitter and Vine accounts were the result of a hacker. via  Huffington Post A racist post sent from a Florida State University student’s Vine and Twitter social media accounts set off a firestorm at the Tallahassee campus this week. Mandy Thurston’s Vine and Twitter accounts on Wednesday posted the message, “Welcome to FAMU…I mean FSU. #monkeyseverywhere,” according to screenshots circulated online (FAMU refers to Florida A&M University, a historically black university). The six-second Vine showed footage of students at the Oglesby Union courtyard on FSU’s campus during Market Wednesday, a weekly event where student organizations and vendors put up tables. The Vine post has since been deleted, as has Thurston’s Twitter account. Thurston told the Tallahassee Democrat Friday that her accounts had been hacked, and that she’s filed a police report about it. Maj. Jim Russell, assistant chief of FSU PD, confirmed to the newspaper that a report was filed this week, but did not provide any details. Prior to the Democrat’s report of the alleged hacking, campus police and the FSU administration had announced to the student body that an investigation was underway. It’ll be interesting to see the results of this “investigation” and find out if this girl’s account really was hacked. Do you believe her? Twitter/College Leak Continue reading

STFU Already! Rush Limbaugh Blames Black People For “White Flight” To The ‘Burbs And The Downfall Of Detroit

So it’s OUR fault that some white folks fear black skin??? Rush Limbaugh Says The Downfall Of Detroit Is Black People Via NYDailyNews Rush Limbaugh claimed the large black population in Detroit caused a “white flight” from the urban center to suburbia, ultimately leading to the city’s demise. The conservative radio host told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Tuesday that civil rights protests in the ’60s caused white residents to flee, with the Detroit’s first African-American Mayor Coleman Young largely to blame for causing the unrest in 1967, according to Limbaugh. “Detroit is left with nothing but liberal Democrats running it,” he said, adding the Michigan town was a “petri dish of everything the Democrat Party stands for,” with a preponderance of unions, pension and health care for people after they retire. A review of the interview by ThinkProgress pointed out that Young didn’t become mayor of Detroit until 1973, several years after the riots in 1967. Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, who is African-American, announced July 18 that the city of Detroit filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection in federal court. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, who is white, called the move a “difficult step,” but the “only viable option to address a problem that has been six decades in the making.” Census data from 2010 shows 83% of Detroit’s total population is black — the highest percentage of African-Americans for any U.S. city. Newark Mayor Cory Booker Makes Official Announcement That He Is Running For Senator!

SuperBooker is ready to take it to the next level Newark Mayor Cory Booker Announces That He Is Running For Senator Via HuffingtonPost Newark Mayor Cory Booker on Saturday formally announced he’s in the race to finish the U.S. Senate term of the late Frank Lautenberg. The 44-year-old Democrat made his candidacy official at a news conference Saturday in Newark, New Jersey’s largest city. He was joined by former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley, a former pro basketball player who for 18 years held the seat Booker is seeking. Bradley, who endorsed Booker, called him “the right person for the right office at the right time.” Booker began raising money for a Senate run even before Lautenberg, who died Monday, announced retirement plans in February. He had raised $1.9 million by the end of the last reporting period in March. Reps. Frank Pallone and Rush Holt are also planning to enter the Democratic primary. Booker is considered the early front-runner. Pallone, 61, had $3.7 million in his campaign coffers at the end of March and has deep union support. Holt, 64, a former research physicist, had $800,000 on hand. No need to worry though, Cory has always been gangsta at gettin’ gwap. According to a Senate campaign filing made in May, Booker has brought in $1.3 million for 90 speeches he has given around the country since 2008. His campaign says he has donated the majority of that money to charities that serve Newark. Booker’s campaign has said that the networking he does ultimately helps the city. In 2010, he was seated next to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg at a dinner during a conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. Two months later, Zuckerberg announced a $100 million donation to improve education in Newark. Would you cast a vote for Newark’s charismatic mayor?

SMH: Investigation On Ohio Obama Supporter Who May Have Voted For The President 6 Times In 2012 Election

She sure looks like a nice lady and not one to be voting six times under other people’s names and such… Via Fox News: The Obama/Biden lawn sign remains proudly planted in front of Melowese Richardson’s Cincinnati home, three months after the presidential election. It seems that President Obama has an especially ardent supporter in the veteran Ohio poll worker. Richardson told a local television station this month that she voted twice for Obama last November. She cast an absentee ballot and then voted at the polls as well. “Yes, I voted twice,” Richardson told WCPO-TV. “I, after registering thousands of people, certainly wanted my vote to count, so I voted. I voted at the polls.” Authorities also are investigating if she voted in the names of four other people, too, for a total of six votes in the 2012 presidential election. “I’ll fight it for Mr. Obama and for Mr. Obama’s right to sit as president of the United States,” Richardson vowed when asked about the voter fraud investigation that is now under way. Richardson is one of 19 people suspected of illegal voting by the Hamilton County Board of Elections in the last election. Richardson’s granddaughter, India Richardson, confirmed to Fox News that her grandmother voted for her, by submitting an absentee ballot in her name. India told Fox News that she is not angry, and gave her permission to cast her absentee ballot. “It wasn’t a big deal,” she said. But election authorities say voting more than once, or in someone else’s name, is a big deal because it is illegal and threatens the credibility of the nation’s election system. As part of a new effort to root out any voter fraud, Secretary of State Husted has ordered all 88 of the state’s county Board of Elections to hold public hearings on any credible voter fraud allegations or claims of voter disenfranchisement during the 2012 election. He said any substantiated allegations should be turned over to prosecutors. “Once the election is over, and once the winner is declared, everybody forgets about it. I want to make sure that we don’t forget about it, that we make sure we do, essentially, an audit of that process to ensure that we know what happened, and then use that evidence to guide us going forward. … We need to learn from that last election so that we can be better before the next one gets here.” “Fraud does happen,” noted Husted. “Most attempts are caught by the system. But there are cases that do slip through, as this one does, and we need to make sure that we really send a strong message, that if you do this, you are going to be held accountable. It might mean fines, it might mean jail time.” Voter fraud, said Husted, “undermines public confidence in democracy, and that’s why we need, whether you are a Democrat or Republican, to root out all cases of voter fraud.” SMH. Thoughts???

Ashley Judd Mocked in Political Ad For Even THINKING About U.S. Senate Run

Ashley Judd is considering a run for U.S. Senate , and the fact that it’s even crossed her mind is enough to draw fire from potential political opponents! American Crossroads, a Super PAC founded by Karl Rove, made the ad, calling her “an Obama-following radical Hollywood Liberal.” Take a look: Ashley Judd Attack Ad Judd is considering a run in her home state of Kentucky, which explains why the ad notes that she resides in neighboring Tennessee, at least for now. A Democrat, Judd, who just split from Dario Franchitti , would potentially take on Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate Minority Leader in 2014. An uphill battle in right-leaning Kentucky, for sure. But an unwinnable one? Not necessarily, as evidenced by the fact that opponents are already scrambling to “define” her. McConnell also isn’t immensely popular with conservatives (and certainly not with Bluegrass State liberals) despite his long career in the Senate. Needless to say, American Crossroads is not a fan, and Judd would be an underdog IF she decided to try it. But it’s not as far-fetched as it sounds. Other notable actors to achieve success in politics? Fred Thompson, Sonny Bono, Al Franken, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan. Yes, even a former president. Just saying.
