Failed Ex-Howard University Medical Student Suspected In Shooting Scare

Read the original post:

A former student who flunked out of Howard Medical School is suspected of sparking a scare about an active shooter on campus earlier this week at the HBCU in Northwest Washington, D.C.,  according to  ABC 7-WJLA . RELATED:  ‘Active Shooter’ Reported On Howard University Campus Details are still sparse about the incident that sparked calls to the police about 12:04 p.m. Tuesday, but Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham told the television news station that they were not a hoax. “It seems like the initial caller called because they received information from a third party so they called in good faith,” he said.     Stephen Whetstone of Howard’s Health Sciences section told the news station that school officials were aware of an angry former medical student, whose name has not been released to the public. The man had flunked out and had made numerous threats. “He had made threats to come back and shoot up the testing center at Stokes Library,” Whetstone told the news station, “so he had made that kind of threat and I think he was pretty much targeting his former classmates.” The man, whose ex-girlfriend is a student on campus, reportedly had taken out a restraining order. He allegedly warned that if she alerted authorities about the threats that her sister and grandmother would be targeted, the report said. More than two hours after news of an active shooter was on campus, Howard University President Wayne A.I. Frederick said the school was “all clear.” Some students complained they had hoped for more crisis updates from school officials at the time of the incident, which raised concern after a man was arrested recently for making death threats against Howard students . It also raised concern because festivities for the school’s homecoming, which draws a large crowd, begins Oct. 20. Kathy Griffin on Offensive Donald Trump Photo: My Major Bad! PLEASE Forgive Me!

Kathy Griffin is sorry. Like, really, really, REALLY ridiculously sorry. The comedian came under fire from both sides of the aisle on Tuesday after she posted for a Tyler Shields photo shoot in which she held the bloody, severed head of President Donald Trump. In a horrible attempt at humor, Griffin wrote “there was blood coming out of his eyes, blood coming out of his…wherever,” as a caption, hearkening back to when Trump made the same comment last year about Megyn Kelly . It was a sexist, inappropriate thing for Trump to utter at the time. And, in the context below, it was a wildly inappropriate and borderline illegal thing for Griffin to say now. Watch the controversial video and share your opinion on it in the Comments section at the bottom of this post: Kathy Griffin “Beheads” Donald Trump, Pisses Off Internet Shortly after the fake beheading went viral, Griffin started to backtrack on the meaning behind it. “OBVIOUSLY, I do not condone ANY violence by my fans or others to anyone, ever! I’m merely mocking the Mocker in Chief,” she Tweeted. Shields, the photographer behind the shoot, was more defiant in his defense of the pairing’s so-called “art” work. “Can you go to jail for making an artistic statement??? Asking for a friend… @kathygriffin,” he wrote. No, not really. But you can go to jail for threatening the life of a sitting President. It’s unlikely that the Secret Service will actually investigate Griffin and/or that any charges will get brought against Griffin. But she has heard it from Republicans and Democrats alike in the wake of this distasteful stunt. “Disgusting but not surprising. This is the left today,” wrote Donald Trump Jr., turning this into a partisan issue and adding: “They consider this acceptable. Imagine a conservative did this to Obama as POTUS?” Of course, this has proven to be wholly untrue. No one on the Left considers this acceptable. Griffin is almost receiving more flak from Liberals than from Conservatives because this distorts their rhetoric against Trump. There is plenty (and we mean PLENTY ) one can say as a critique of Donald Trump without resorting to such acts of fake violence. “It wasn’t right when peoplel hung lynched Obama effigies, just as what Kathy Griffin did isn’t right now,” wrote Debra Messing, Chelsea Clinton also disproved Trump Jr.’s thesis, Tweeting: “This is vile and wrong. It is never funny to joke about killing a president.” Other negative reactions have included: If Griffin was seeking attention and looking for a way to unify members of both political parties, she has succeeded on both fronts. In light of this never-ending backlash, however, Griffin recorded a 30-second video this evening and shared it on Twitter. “I beg for your forgiveness. I went too far,” Griffin is here to say, adding: “I moved the line, and then I crossed it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people.” She goes on to say she’ll see if Shields will remove the video in question and all of the photos. As far as apologies go, it doesn’t get much more forthright than this: Kathy Griffin Apologizes for Donald Trump Video But it doesn’t stop us from asking: What the heck were you thinking in the first place, Kathy Griffin?!?!? Seriously.

17 Characters Who Ruined Perfectly Good TV Shows

Event the best TV shows suffer from terrible characters sometimes.  And in one way or another, these 17 TV characters managed to ruin (or nearly ruin) shows that we otherwise loved.  Take a look below to see who they are! 1. Jo Wilson (Grey’s Anatomy) Ugh. Grey’s Anatomy has had its share of annoying characters, but Jo is pretty much the worst. Her character is not only whiny and unlikeable, but focus on her has taken away from characters we’d rather pay more attention to. 2. April Nardini (Gilmore Girls) The addition of April Nardini as Luke’s daughter on GIlmore Girls was WEIRD, and it felt like a forced way to throw a wrench in Luke and Lorelai’s relationship. 3. Stuart Bloom (The Big Bang Theory) There was nothing wrong with Stuart when he first appeared on The Big Bang Theory, but after a while, his presence just become depressing… and creepy. 4. Piper Chapman (Orange is the New Black) The thing about Piper is, we liked her at first. She’s the lead character we followed into Litchfield, and we watched as she adjusted to life in prison. But after the first season? Ugh. She changed for the worse, and now her stories just take away from the rest of the cast. 5. Marissa Cooper (The O.C.) Marissa Cooper was a problem for The O.C. from the very beginning. Even though she was unbearable to watch, other characters managed to keep us coming back. 6. Connor (Angel) Things on Angel really took a turn when Angel and Darla’s son Connor returned as a fully grown teenager, and not in a good way. View Slideshow

Neil Gorsuch: Who is This Supreme Court Nominee?

Donald Trump has made his selection. In one of the most vital decisions a President can make, the Commander-in-Chief announced on Tuesday night that Neil Gorsuch is his choice to be the next Supreme Court justice. “The most important thing the President of the United States can make is the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice, I took the task of this nomination very seriously,” Trump said in a nationally televised announced from the White House. Gorsuch – who received his undergraduate education from Columbia prior to earning his law degree from Harvard and who then went on to receive a doctorate at Oxford University – is a federal appeals court judge in Colorado. Like late justice Anton Scalia, whose seat Gorsuch will fill if he's confirmed, the nominee is considered to be an originalist when it comes to how he interprets the Constitution. He also clerked in the past for two Supreme Court justices, Byron White and Anthony Kennedy and served as a clerk on the second most important appeals court in the country, in Washington D.C., for conservative Judge David Sentelle. “He is the man of our country, a man who our country really needs, to ensure the rule of law and justice, I only hope that Democrats and Republicans can come together, for once, for the good of the country,” Trump concluded of his nominee. Gorsuch beat our finalists William Pryor and Thomas M. Hardiman for the nomination. Get to know Neil Gorsuch better below and then VOTE: Is he the right choice?

It’s Official: Donald Trump Wins Electoral College Vote, Many Voters “Too Scared” To Deflect

Welp…that’s y’all’s president … Electoral College Upholds Trump Win For all those who were holding tightly to the thin glimmer of hope that members of the electoral college were going to abandon their state’s vote …we have bad news. Chester Cheeto is officially our commander-in-chief, though not for lack of effort on some of the college members. According to New York Times , a handful broke ranks from what their states decided: Presidential electors — and particularly Republican electors, who are bound by tradition and often state law to support Mr. Trump — were inundated with phone calls, emails and even threats demanding that they vote for someone else. Leaders of groups that were lobbying the electors had privately believed they had a chance to persuade enough Republican electors to defect, denying him an Electoral College majority and throwing the election to the House of Representatives. But by late Monday, only a handful of electors had broken ranks. While Mr. Trump’s opponents needed 37 Republican defectors to bring his electoral-vote tally below 270, the bulk of electors who broke ranks — four in Washington State — were Democrats who otherwise would have voted for Ms. Clinton. Instead, they voted for the former Republican secretary of state Colin L. Powell and Faith Spotted Eagle, a Native American tribal leader who has led opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline. Elsewhere, Democratic electors who sought to vote for someone besides Mrs. Clinton switched back to her under pressure or were replaced with Clinton supporters. In Texas, two Republican electors cast protest votes, one each for Ron Paul and Gov. John Kasich of Ohio. One other Republican opposed to Mr. Trump resigned and was replaced. A strategy memo by the anti-Trump forces has estimated that as many as 34 Republican electors were prepared to vote for someone besides Mr. Trump, but also said many were afraid of the consequences and suggested that a poor turnout of other anti-Trump electors would weaken their resolve. SMH! So had the additional few just manned up, we could have been rescued from an orange-tinted characature who can’t spell running the free world. It’s not as if anyone is shocked, though…

Hamilton Electors: Group Secures 20 of 37 Electoral Votes Needed to Reject Trump?

By now, you’re probably aware of the movement within the Electoral College to prevent Donald Trump from becoming the 45th President of the United States on January 20. But in case you’ve spent the past five weeks unable to hear any media reports over the sound of your own weeping, allow us to bring you up to speed: While the last sliver of hope for Democrats and moderate Republicans remains the longest of shots, it’s not entirely impossible. As we reported last week, it’s beginning to look as though there’s growing support for  Trump being stopped by faithless electors . Republican elector Christopher Suprun has vowed to vote against Trump, and he’s encouraged others to follow his lead. One Florida elector has decided to step down rather than cast a vote for Trump, but he’ll almost certainly be replaced by someone willing to toe the party line. So that means the 36 more Republican electors would need to defect in order to prevent Trump from being appointed America’s next president. Seems like too much to overcome, right? Not necessarily … The Hamilton Electors (so named for the Founding Father’s  Federalist Paper No. 68 , from which they draw their inspiration) aren’t losing hope for two very important reasons: For one thing, there are reports of a new strategy, wherein Democratic electors would not vote for Hillary Clinton, but choose a suitable Republican. The goal? Encouraging their GOP counterparts to follow suit for the good of the country and elect a suitable alternative like Mitt Romney or John Kasich. Additionally, rumblings from within the EC are offering hope to electors who may have been on the fence due to concerns that their dissent is fruitless. There’s strength in numbers, after all. But can they get the numbers – and have enough faith in one another to follow through on this? Harvard law professor Lawrence Lessig tells Politico: “Obviously, whether an elector ultimately votes his or her conscience will depend in part upon whether there are enough doing the same.”  “We now believe there are more than half the number needed to change the result seriously considering making that vote.” Lessig – who has been offering free legal counsel to potential faithless electors – says he believes at least 20 electors are planning to defect. If that were true, the Hamilton movement is already succeeding to a degree, and could snowball, picking up more supporters as it grows in size. “[Electors] are looking at is the best chance we have of stopping Trump than at any other point during this process,” Lessig says. The Republican National Committee, for its part, maintains that Suprun is the only faithless elector that they are aware of, Meanwhile, Salon reported Tuesday that potential Hamilton Electors have been threatened with political reprisal. The Electoral College results won’t be known until December 19, when the group of 538 meets to vote on the presidency. Whatever the outcome, this is the first time in modern history that the EC’s final tally is considered anything less that a sure thing. That fact alone should remind Trump of how much work he has to do if he’s genuine about his professed desire to re-unify a divided nation. Think he’ll listen to that message? Fight The Power: 6 Electoral College Voters Refuse To Vote Trump, Campaigning To Convince Others

Faithless Electors Refuse To Vote Trump, Want Others To Follow Suit America isn’t just gonna go quietly into the night and allow Donald Trump and his bigoted administration to take over the government. As some of you might remember, we reported weeks ago that several electors had already vowed not to vote for Donald regardless of the outcome in their state. Today, there are a total of 6 “faithless electors” who have come forward and they are working to convince others to withhold a Trump vote prior to the official casting on December 19th according to Politico . Obviously it’s VERY unlikely that these men and women could swing enough voters to turn the election on it’s head, but the idea is to challenge the electoral system so staunchly that it brings forth change, and possible elimination, for future elections. “I do think that a byproduct would be a serious look into Electoral College reform,” said Micheal Baca, a Democratic elector from Colorado who is spearheading the anti-Trump effort, along with Washington state elector P. Bret Chiafalo. “If it gets into the House, the controversy and the uncertainty that would immediately blow up into a political firestorm in the U.S. would cause enough people — my hope is — to look at the whole concept of the Electoral College,” said another elector involved in the anti-Trump planning, who declined to be identified. What these folks are plotting is unprecedented in United States history. “If you could get eight or 10 Trump electors to vote for someone else … then that would probably get people’s attention,” said George Edwards III, a political science professor and Electoral College expert at Texas A&M University. “We haven’t ever had that many faithless electors in one election.” In order to reverse the outcome of the election, Democrats would have to convince 37 Republicans to not vote for Donald. Which is extremely unlikely to happen. This isn’t to get your hopes up that Hillz will be taking the oath of office on January 20th, but it is a silver lining that reflects the will of the people and the power we still have to combat the evil that Donald has planned for us as a nation.
