The couple wed in a winter wonderland style ceremony at the Four Seasons in Vail, Colo according to Page Six reports. The guestlist included Wolfe’s teammates Kayvon Webster, Darian Stewart, Chris Harris Jr., T.J. Ward and Aqib Talib. Good thing SOMEBODY around there had some sense to figure out how to give the cast and crew of ‘Moonlight’ their just due. Even if the Oscars couldn’t do right by Denzel , he made sure they did right by another Black cast. YouTube
Spike Lee And Russell Simmons Say The Academy Made A Mistake Not Giving Denzel An Oscar For Fences As predicted by many, Denzel Washington lost out on his Best Male Actor In A Lead Role Oscar Sunday night to Casey Affleck , whose movie “Manchester By The Sea” seemed like another boonies of Boston working class movie produced by Matt Damon and Ben AFfleck to us… Affleck was gracious in his acceptance and acknowledged that he learned his craft by watching Denzel. Two of our culture’s elder statesmen — Spike Lee and Russell Simmons — wasted no time in commenting about the tremendous failure on the Academy’s part to give Denzel his just due. Russell Simmons echoed Spike and Devon Franklin’s opinion that Denzel crushed his role in ‘Fences’ Russell went kinda hard in the paint after the show but we noticed he took down this strongly worded post and replaced it with the one below: Wonder why he did that? You think Denzel asked him to change it? The academy? In anycase, do you agree that Denzel was robbed? Did anyone even see ‘Manchester By The Sea’? Will you see it just to find out if Casey Affleck CAN actually carry Denzel’s shoes?
Denzel Washington Charged With Choking Aretha Franklin Before you lose your mind, relax , take a deep breath, and peep game. A report in the NYPost states that Denzel Washington has accepted a plea deal for strangling Aretha Franklin. Thing is, it’s not THAT Denzel Washington and it’s not THAT Aretha Franklin. A man from Manhattan named Denzel Washington was charged with assaulting his mother, who just so happened to be named Aretha Franklin. The altercation happened inside the mom’s apartment in a doorman building on West 93rd Street, according to the Manhattan criminal complaint. “I am informed by Aretha Franklin,” the complaint says, “that she observed the defendant place his hands around her neck and apply pressure, thereby causing redness, bruising and substantial pain to her neck.” As part of the plea deal Washington will have to enroll in an anger management course. Now calm down, put your eyeballs back in your head, and share this story with your friends and family so they can freak out just like you did. Image via Shutterstock/WENN

Black mental health matters… MarShawn McCarrel Commits Suicide An activist in the Black Lives Matter movement has died. MarShawn McCarrel, 23, killed himself Monday outside the steps of Ohio’s statehouse after posting on social media that his “demons won.” Prior to his death he was celebrated for his work in raising awareness on Ohio’s homelessness and was named one of Radio One’s Hometown Champions. The New York Daily News reports: A Black Lives Matter activist killed himself on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse, authorities said. MarShawn McCarrel, 23, shot himself in front of the Columbus building Monday evening, Lt. Craig Cvetan of the State Highway Patrol told the Columbus Dispatch. “My demons won today. I’m sorry,” the activist, who recently attended the NAACP Image Awards, posted on his Facebook page about 3 p.m., just hours before his body was found near the Statehouse. His last tweet read: “Let the record show that I pissed on the state house before I left.” No one witnessed the shooting, Cvetan said. McCarrel was pronounced dead at the scene. McCarrel, who had recently worked with Black Lives Matter, helped organize protests in Ohio after a Missouri cop shot and killed unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in 2014. He also founded youth mentorship program Pursuing Our Dreams, which launched Feed the Streets, a project to help Ohio’s homeless. He attended the NAACP’s Image Awards on Friday, Pursuing Our Dreams wrote on its Facebook. So, so sad to hear that this young brother took his own life. Condolences to the family.
Omari Hardwick Says Denzel Washington Saved Him From Being Homeless Hollywood actor Omari Hardwick says Denzel Washington and his wife Paulette helped him survive after arriving to California. The “Power” star says Oscar winning actor helped him from becoming homeless and even paid for his car when his first paid gig didn’t pan out: “I came out here without a lot of money and I met Paulette and Denzel Washingon via John David, their oldest son and I worked at Campbell Hall, the high school he went to here in the valley. And I was teaching, substitute but coaching and I moreso became his mentor and his trainer at UCLA on Saturdays. So that kind of gave me inroads to this sort of figure in Denzel and an aunt figure in Pauletta. “They perfectly and appropriately didn’t help me out. They gave me shelter when I didn’t have a place to stay or whatever but they sort of allowed me to be close enough to the family so I sort of transitioned into getting an agent…the whole thing…doing all these odd jobs. Pursuing firefighting as a backup. Pursuing it at least and on the day that I said no to the fire department was the day Spike Lee offered me my first acting gig.” Omari later admitted that he even gave his first acting check to Denzel and the actor framed it because he was so proud. Denzel and Paulette are the godparents we wished we could have too! YT
