Robert Nickelsberg/Getty Images L.A. Teen Killed By Police We were saddened to learn of the death of Anthony Jacob Weber, a 16-year-old teen killed this weekend in South Los Angeles by police. According to Independent reports , officials are claiming that Weber had a gun tucked in his waistband at the time he was shot, but they believe someone in the crowd may have removed the weapon during the confusion that followed. The incident happened after someone called 911 Sunday night to report a man had pointed a gun at his car. Deputies encountered a 16-year-old boy matching the suspect’s description — a black man wearing a black T-shirt and jeans. Police claim they ordered the suspect to stop, but he took off running into an apartment complex, detectives said. The boy, identified by family members as Anthony Jacob Weber, appeared to have a gun tucked into his waistband and away from the deputies, sheriff’s Capt. Chris Bergner said. A witness told detectives they remembered hearing the deputies yell out, “Don’t reach for it!” but didn’t know whether Weber had a gun, he said. The deputies chased Weber into the courtyard of an apartment complex, where he turned around and reached for his waistband, Bergner said. As he turned around, a deputy opened fire, shooting off 10 rounds, the captain said. It was unclear how many times Weber was shot. About 30 to 40 people flooded into the apartment complex’s courtyard and surrounded the two deputies as Weber lay wounded on the floor, officials said. Investigators believe that while the deputies were waiting for backup to arrive someone in the crowd grabbed the gun from the scene. “They believe that somebody reached in and may have taken a gun,” Berger said at a news conference. The weapon hasn’t been recovered. Weber was the father of an infant daughter. “My son was a good son. He was a great brother. He had the biggest heart,” Weber’s mother, Demetra Johnson, said. “He had a 9-month old daughter, Violet, that lights up every time he walks in the room. He didn’t deserve this. He don’t (sic) have that kind of heart that deserve this kind of killing.” Prayers up for Weber’s family. Do you think it’s really possible that someone reached into the crime scene to remove the gun? Or are the police just trying to cover up for another killing of an unarmed teen?
Study Predicts That It Would Take Black Families 228 Years To Catch Up With White Wealth Today A new study predicts that in the future , the wage gap between White Americans and Minorities continues to grow larger as opposed to getting better– and it would take 228 years for black families to acquire the wealth of white families today. Via The Nation If current economic trends continue, the average black household will need 228 years to accumulate as much wealth as their white counterparts hold today. For the average Latino family, it will take 84 years. Absent significant policy interventions, or a seismic change in the American economy, people of color will never close the gap. Those are the key findings of a new study of the racial wealth-gap released this week by the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) and the Corporation For Economic Development (CFED). They looked at trends in household wealth from 1983 to 2013—a 30-year period that captured the rise of Reaganomics, expanded international trade and two major financial crashes fueled by bubbles in the tech sector and housing prices. The authors found that the average wealth of white households increased by 84 percent during those three decades, three times the gains African-American families saw and 1.2 times the rate of growth for Latino families. To put that in perspective, the wealthiest Americans—members of the Forbes 400 list—saw their net worths increase by 736 percent during that period, on average. If those trends persist for another 30 years, the average white family’s net worth will grow by $18,000 per year, but black and Hispanic households would only see theirs grow by $750 and $2,250 per year, respectively. Check out this visualization of what this study means courtesy of IPS . Thoughts?
WOW!!! And just like the Paul O’Neal pigs said on camera …the officer is now on “desk duty.” ABC7 : The man fatally shot by a deputy in Compton last month was not connected to a carjacking suspect who had opened fire on deputies, sheriff’s officials said. During the July 28 incident, a carjacking suspect crashed a stolen car, fired at deputies and fled into a neighborhood. A search ensued, and that suspect was taken into custody. Around the same time, a resident in the neighborhood noticed 27-year-old Donnell Thompson lying in his yard and called 911. Sheriff’s officials said deputies were concerned that Thompson may be armed and possibly connected to the carjacking suspect. Deputies said Thompson did not respond to their attempts to communicate with him and was lying in a position that covered one of his hands from view. At one point, investigators said Thompson stood up and “charged at the deputies.” That’s when a deputy fatally shot Thompson, believing he was armed. According to the sheriff’s department, the deputy who shot Thompson fire from the turret of an armored vehicle. After the shooting, authorities launched an investigation, which included gun residue testing, DNA testing, interviews with witnesses, deputies and family members and fingerprinting. The sheriff’s department released a statement Tuesday on its findings. “We have determined that there is no evidence that Mr. Thompson was in the carjacked vehicle, nor that he was involved in the assault on the deputies,” the statement said. Dawn Modkins, a spokeswoman for Black Lives Matter Long Beach, organized a press conference with Thompson’s family and friends in front of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors building after the information was released. Thompson’s family, who called him “Little Bo Peep,” said they plan to file a wrongful-death lawsuit against the sheriff’s department. His brother said Thompson was a “kind, sweet person” who did not have a criminal history. His family and friends said they wanted justice for his death and that the sheriff’s department needed to publicly apologize. “We want the sheriff’s department to be held accountable for their actions. We want an apology to us as his family (and) a public apology to the community for their reckless actions on July 28,” Thompson’s sister-in-law said. Matrice Stanley, 44, one of Thompson’s sisters, said she and the rest of her family did not learn about his death until several hours later that day. “Justice is not going to bring my brother back,” she said. Stanley said her brother had a diminished mental capacity, was reserved, extremely quiet and non-confrontational. She said she believed her brother’s race was a major factor in why he was shot. “My brother was dehumanized, disvalued,” Stanley said. “I wouldn’t treat an animal this bad. How is this justifiable?” Stanley also expressed anger about the deputy firing from an armored vehicle. “He can’t go through armored cars,” she exclaimed. The deputy involved in the shooting has been reassigned to non-field duties, authorities said. The shooting was under investigation. It will ultimately be turned over to the county district attorney’s office for review. Only black folks can be mistaken for something they are not and that fact alone be the justification for their demise. “We do not know why he was acting that way?” While lying on the ground with no gun? WTF??? We have another video on the next page.
SMH…: PALMDALE — A 5-month old boy stabbed by his teenage father during a child abduction in Palmdale has died, authorities say. Palmdale Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a report of a child abduction in Palmdale at about 11:00AM, Tuesday. An Amber Alert was issued for the child and his father, 17-year old Christopher Earl Glass, around 2:00 Tuesday afternoon. According to the alert, Glass picked up his 5-month-old son from a relative’s home earlier today and drove to the child’s mother’s home. John Harmon was coming off a late night at work when he left his downtown marketing firm for his Anderson Township home just after midnight in October 2009. The 52-year-old longtime diabetic’s blood sugar levels had dipped to a dangerously low level causing him to weave into another lane. A Hamilton County sheriff’s deputy spotted him on Clough Pike and suspected drunken driving. What happened over the next two minutes and 20 seconds should never happen to anyone, Harmon said. Deputies broke the window of Harmon’s SUV, shocked him seven times with a Taser, cut him out of his seatbelt and wrestled him to the ground, severely dislocating his elbow, and causing trauma to his shoulder and thumb. The deputies’ actions prompted a state highway patrol trooper to pull one deputy away from Harmon because he was so concerned about how Harmon was being treated. That trooper alerted his bosses to the deputies’ actions. Even after learning the incident was a medical emergency, deputies charged Harmon with resisting arrest and failing to comply with a police officer’s order. “I thought for sure I was going to die,” Harmon said. “I remember praying to God, ‘Help me through this.’” Harmon, a tall and burly black man, owns a marketing company with his wife. He said he moved to the mostly white township for its good schools, and said he believes he wouldn’t have gotten the same treatment if it was a white man. “I do think that maybe (race) was a factor,” Harmon said. “Just out of common decency some of the things that were done here don’t make sense, even if I were drunk.” Harmon and his wife, Stephanie Harmon, filed a civil rights lawsuit Dec. 20 in U.S. District Court against Hamilton County, the sheriff’s office and four deputies: Ryan Wolf, Matthew Wissel, John Haynes and Shawn Cox, and their supervisor, Sgt. Barbara Stuckey. The couple allege that Harmon’s civil rights were violated because of his false arrest, malicious prosecution and the excessive force used. They also cited battery; malicious prosecution; intentional infliction of emotional distress and loss of consortium. They want an unspecified amount of compensation. Settlement talks that started with a demand of more than $1 million deteriorated earlier this month. That’s when Harmon filed the lawsuit. A sheriff’s office investigation found excessive force was used, and four of the officers involved were punished. The deputies involved were asked through sheriff’s officials to comment. None returned calls. Damn, we hope he gets the settlement he deserves. Shady f*cking cops. Source
