High School Student Facing Life In Prison For Rape Prank On Teacher A High school student who tied up his teacher and attempted to force her into a car with a knife during what he called a “senior prank,”could be sentenced to life in prison as a result. via Mercury News A former Redwood City high school student faces a maximum of life in prison after being convicted of the attempted rape and kidnapping of a teacher which he testified was a prank intended just to scare her. The jury deliberated just 90 minutes Wednesday before returning guilty verdicts an all charges against David Velasquez, 21, including kidnapping with the intent to commit r*pe. The convictions carry a possible life sentence for the ex-Summit Preparatory Charter High School student, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. In nearly emotionless testimony Velasquez told how he hid between some garbage cans in the school parking garage in January 2012 and then “popped out” behind the teacher. After grabbing her with one arm and pointing a knife he held in his other hand at her side, he ordered her to her car parked 80 feet away. The attack ended when another teacher happened upon the crime and screamed. “This is what they call a senior prank,” Velasquez said while under questioning from Deputy District Attorney Tricia Povah. “I decided to do one.” The evening of the attack Velasquez testified he put on sunglasses, a stocking cap, covered his face with a scarf and changed his shirt before crouching between some plastic garbage cans in the parking garage. When the teacher emerged from the school he said he jumped out behind her, prompting her to laugh at first. Velasquez said the “prank” was supposed to be end with him pushing the teacher into her car and slamming the door. Really?? “It was a prank” is the BEST he could do on trial for his life? SMH. Sheryl Crow may just wanna have fun, but medical diagnoses continue to get in the way. A rep for the former Grammy winner and breast cancer survivor confirmed today that Crow is suffering from meningioma, a treatable, benign brain tumor. The artist accidentally spilled the sick beans herself last night while talking to Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Doug Elfman. “I worried about my memory so much that I went and got an MRI. And I found out I have a brain tumor,” Crow told the journalist . “And I was, like, ‘See? I knew there was something wrong.’ I haven’t really talked about it… But it’s benign, so I don’t have to worry about it. But it gives me a fit.” A recent case in point: when the singer forget the lyrics to “Soak Up the Sun” during a concert in Florida. “She is doing great and is healthy and happy,” Crow’s rep says to E! News. “Half of us are walking around with [meningioma] but you don’t really know unless you happen to have an MRI. [Crow] has no symptoms and everything is fine. It was a random mention during the interview. It was not meant to alarm anyone.”

Matthew Fox has been involved in a number of bizarre, potentially dangerous incidents in the past year, and it may land the former Lost star in rehab . The actor accepted a plea deal that will allow him to avoid jail time in his Oregon DUI case if he successfully completes a “court diversion program.” He pleaded no contest on June 1 to one count of driving under the influence of intoxicants, and will be forced to treat his apparent alcohol issue. Matthew Fox and his wife, Margherita Ronchi . “He has to go to an evaluator for alcohol [abuse] and complete any recommended treatment program,” Deputy District Attorney Cliff Lu said of Fox. If that means in-patient rehab, then that’s what he’ll do, based on the evaluator’s recommendation. Only then can the DUI charge be expunged. If Fox completes the terms of a diversion program within a year, the DUI charge, which could mean jail time, “is certain to be dismissed,” says Lu. Going to rehab might not be the worst thing. Last summer, Fox was accused of crotch-punching Heather Bormann, the driver of a party bus. She dropped her lawsuit recently, but Fox’s image took another hit when his former co-star Dominic Monaghan said he beats women , often. [Photo: Pacific Coast News]

Judge tells Lohan if she pleads guilty to theft charge, she will serve time for probation violation. By James Montgomery Lindsay Lohan (file) Photo: Pool/ Getty Images Lindsay Lohan arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday morning (February 23) facing the possibility of jail time, after being offered a plea deal related to her alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace on January 22. She left without accepting the deal, and with the prospect of jail still very much in the cards. Lohan, who wore a low-cut black top to the proceedings, was told by Judge Keith Schwartz that if she does accept the Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers’ offer to settle the case, she “will be going to jail.” According to TMZ , the deal is for six months of jail time. Schwartz — who would handle sentencing if she accepts the plea — let it be known that he wouldn’t allow her celebrity to affect his decision, telling her, bluntly, “I don’t care that you’re Lindsay Lohan. “One of the things about me is that I treat everybody the same,” Schwartz continued. “What I look to in sentencing is, ‘What is the prior record?’ In this particular case, there has been so much speculation in the press [that] I’m just going to tell you a couple of things: If you plead in front of me, you are going to jail. There might be an issue about the amount of time, but if the case settles here, you will be doing to jail.” Schwartz said that if Lohan accepts the DA’s deal — thereby pleading guilty to felony grand theft — she would be found in violation of her probation and would serve time. He also recommended a psychological evaluation of Lohan to help him determine an appropriate sentence. After posting bail on the felony charge, Lohan took to Twitter to proclaim her innocence, and, with attorney Shawn Holley at her side, she maintained that tact on Wednesday. All indications are she plans to stand trial on the charge and, if found guilty, could face up to one year in state prison. Lohan is due back in court on March 10. But before then, Schwartz instructed both attorneys to meet and discuss the possibility of accepting the plea. Related Photos The Highs And Lows Of Lindsay Lohan Related Artists Lindsay Lohan

They just need to let poor MJ rest in peace: Michael Jackson killed himself with a lethal dose of the hospital anaesthesia Propofol, it has been claimed. Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney David Walgren claimed lawyers for Dr Conrad Murray, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter in relation to Jackson’s death, plan to use the theory as the main part of his defense. Walgren’s statement came at a hearing yesterday where a lawyer for Dr Murray clashed with the prosecutor over who should test residue from two syringes found in Jackson’s bedroom. He said: ‘I do think it’s clear the defense is operating under the theory that the victim, Michael Jackson, killed himself. ‘They don’t want to say it but that’s the direction in which they are going.’ Defense attorney J. Michael Flanagan said a huge amount of the anaesthetic Propofol was found in Jackson’s body, but his client has said he gave him only 25 milligrams of the drug. Mr. Walgren suggested the defense will claim Jackson killed himself by injecting more of the drug into himself. It is understood that Dr Murray’s lawyers will claim that the star woke up while his physician was out of the room for two minutes in the toilet and administered a lethal dose of the drug himself. A preliminary hearing in the case begins next Tuesday when Judge Michael Pastor will decide whether the prosecution has a strong enough case to support the unusual charge that Dr Murray was criminally responsible for the king of pop’s death in June 2009. As many as 30 witnesses are expected to be called during the two week hearing. Although the defense won’t be putting its case, it is thought highly likely that the judge will find that the American cardiologist will have to go to trial. Dr. Murray, 52, faces up to four years in prison if he is convicted. Reports in the US have suggested that the doctor’s lawyers will argue that the singer injected Propofol himself using an intravenous drip, causing a massive heart attack. He then supposedly dropped the bottle on the floor. When the doctor came back into the room he tried CPR in a desperate attempt to revive Jackson. An autopsy later showed the heart attack was caused by a fatal dose of Propofol, a drug Jackson used to help with his chronic insomnia. Mr Flanagan said a broken syringe was found on the bedroom floor in addition to a syringe in an intravenous medication bag. He also revealed that a fingerprint found on the broken syringe hasn’t been identified. Source
