Mom Gets Free Pizza From Waitress For Breastfeeding in Public

The act of breastfeeding in public is frequently debated in parenting circles, and seemingly more often than not, leads to criticism for the mothers involved. Not this time. Thanks to a generous waitress, Jackie Johnson-Smith recently had the exact opposite experience in an Iowa pizza parlor. Take a look at her receipt: How did this come about? Johnson-Smith shared her story on Facebook: “I have breastfed three children. I have breastfed them in countless of places both pleasant and unpleasant, discreetly and out in the open.” “I have gotten many looks and stares, but tonight erases any negativity I have ever received. I ate at Fongs for the first time tonight.” “Having a fussy baby I nursed him for awhile in the booth and eventually left the table early as to not disrupt the restaurant.” “The waitress gave this receipt to my husband. I was speechless and emotional.” “Although I don’t need a pat on the back for feeding my child, it felt amazing how we women can make each other feel when we empower each other.” So who was the woman behind the gesture? According to KCCI 8 News in Des Moines, Bodi Kinney is the waitress who wrote the note on her bill. “We need to come together and support each other when it comes to nursing our children,” Kinney told the news station in an interview. Others clearly agree. This comes on the heels of Hollie McNish ‘s incredible defense of breastfeeding in public that went viral this month. What do you think: Should moms breastfeed in public?   Of course! It’s totally natural! And besides, baby’s gotta eat! No way! That’s gross. She can do that somewhere else. View Poll »

Detroit: Bankrupt!

Detroit is bankrupt. As in out of money. The major American city’s well-documented financial problems have apparently worsened beyond anyone’s expectations. Once emblematic of industrial clout, Detroit became the biggest U.S. city to file for bankruptcy today, its finances ravaged by years of decline. The bankruptcy filing, which had been feared for months, leaves Detroit’s future on an uncertain course, to say the least, in the years ahead. Officials say that laying off municipal employees, selling off assets, raising fees and scaling back basic services are all possibilities going forward. They felt this was their only way to move forward at all, however. “Only one feasible path offers a way out,” Gov. Rick Snyder said. Kevyn Orr, a bankruptcy expert hired by the state to stop Detroit’s fiscal free-fall, filed under Chapter 9, the bankruptcy system for cities and counties. Orr said Detroit would continue paying its bills and employees. The city’s woes have piled up for generations. In the 1950s, its population grew to 1.8 million people, many lured by plentiful, well-paying auto jobs. But like many cities, Detroit declined along with the industry, and as developers starting building suburbs. Today, the population hovers around 700,000. Orr was unable to persuade creditors, unions and pension boards to take pennies on the dollar to help with the city’s massive financial restructuring. Orr said he “bent over backward” to work with creditors, rejecting criticism that he was too rigid. “Anybody who takes that position just hasn’t been listening.” While its outcome is uncertain, the bankruptcy could last through summer or fall 2014, which coincides with the end of Orr’s 18-month appointment. Snyder determined earlier this year that Detroit was in a financial emergency comprising a “never-ending cycle” without a plan for improvement. “The citizens need and deserve a clear road out,” he said. “The city’s creditors and public servants, deserve to know what promises the city can and will keep.” “The only way to do those things is to radically restructure the city and allow it to reinvent itself without the burden of impossible obligations.” No matter what, at least they’re not simply giving up … Family Guy Clip: Detroit Gives Up

I’m Your Pushaaaa: Special Needs Man Travels 520 Miles By Wheelchair To Talk To President Obama About Legalizing Kush

Ridin’ out for rollin’ up? Now that’s dedication! Man Travels 520 Miles By Wheelchair To Lobby For Legalization Of Kush How far would you go to convince the leader of the free world that piff-puffin’ is a life necessity  and should be legal everywhere? Probably not as far as this man. via Huffington Post Confined to a motorized chair, Curtis Kile, who has Cerebral Palsy, thinks “mean green”should be legal for all. The 52-year-old pointed his wheels from Taylor, Mich. toward 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on June 14, a 520-mile trek. He says he’s hoping to make his pitch in person to President Barack Obama at the White House on July 4. His 17-year-old son, Curtis Kile, Jr., is accompanying him for the 20-day trek in a Ford Econoline van. Kile Sr. is following the path led by his own father, Charles Curtis Kile, Jr., whom Kile said founded the United Marijuana Smokers of Michigan and once walked from Michigan to the White House in support of “mean-green” legalization. While Kile said his health and pace have been affected by the hot temperatures, he has vowed to press on. “I intend to get a national movement going so it (marijuana) can just be legalized,” he told The Compassion Chronicles. “We have to make it readily available to those who cannot afford it.“ Michigan voters approved medical “mean-green” use for some chronic medical conditions in 2008. But acceptance has been stymied on multiple fronts. Kile told the Detroit Free Press that lobbyists and rival industries, not common sense, have stymied access to marijuana for people who could benefit from it. This man damn near risked his life all for the love of that mean green. SMH. Continue reading

Here Comes Baby: Reggie Bush’s Kimmy Fakes Gives Birth To Beautiful Baby Girl

Congratz Reggie . Reggie Bush Becomes A Dad According to US Magazine Reggie Bush is a dad! The 28-year-old NFL player welcomed his first child with fiancee Lilit Avagyan on Monday, May 6. “Lilit gave birth to a beautiful baby girl,” her rep tells Us Weekly. The tot weighed in at 8 pounds, 9 ounces. The Detroit Lions running back and the 25-year-old dancer have been dating for about a year and a half. Bush confirmed Avagyan was pregnant in October 2012 on Florida’s Paul and Young Ron Morning Show. “I have a little one on the way,” he said. “We’re pretty excited!” Bush famously dated Kim Kardashian on-and-off for several years before calling it quits for good in March 2010. The 32-year-old reality starlet is also expecting her first child in July with boyfriend Kanye West. In an Apr. 15 blog post on the Detroit Lions’ website, Bush opened up about his thoughts on becoming first-time parents with his Armenian girlfriend. “I’m very excited. Very excited about the baby. It’s our first one and couldn’t have come at a better time,” he shared. “It couldn’t have come with a better person. Someone I really love and care about. It’s great. It really worked out perfect.” Bush also shared his plans to travel back and forth between his family in L.A. and work in Michigan. “The baby will be in L.A. Well, [Avagyan] is going to be in L.A. because her family lives 15-20 minutes away from us,” he explained. “So she’s going to need that support system while I’m here for a few days out of each week. Then I’ll be home . . . I’m going to rack up a lot of sky miles, I know that.” Kim is about to pop out a baby and Reggie’s look-a-like gives birth to one. Interesting.

For Discussion: Detroit Takes Top Three Spots On The Most Dangerous Neighborhoods In America List

Motor city is now murder city! Detroit Most Dangerous City In The U.S. According to CBS Detroit It’s a clean sweep for Detroit, but nothing to be proud of, as the city takes the top three spots on a list of the most dangerous neighborhoods in America. The study by NeighborhoodScout.com analyzed FBI statistics from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies to pinpoint neighborhoods across the country with the highest predicted rates of violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Researchers drilled down deep into cities and towns to find specific census tract areas that had the highest rates of homicide, forcible rape, armed robbery and aggravated assault. According to the study, the area east of the Barton-McFarland community in zip code 48204 is the most dangerous neighborhood in America. The study said the chances of becoming a victim of violent crime in this west side community over the course of a year are one in seven. According to NeighborhoodScout, one of the more devastating events in this neighborhood over the past year was the closure of the public library — where children took remedial reading and math classes and adults used public computers to apply for jobs. Sharing similar statistics is the Islandview community in the 48207 zip code on the city’s east side, which ranks as the second most dangerous neighborhood on the list. It’s in this neighborhood where, according to the study, housing costs have gone down so dramatically that a 3,300 square-foot property sold for just $800 — down from $70,000 in 2002. The study said the chances of becoming a victim of violent crime in this community over the course of a year are one in seven. Coming in as the third most dangerous neighborhood in the country is the area between Ravendale and LaSalle College Park in zip codes 48213 and 48205. The study said the chances of becoming a victim of violent crime in this east side neighborhood are one in eight. About 40 percent of the households here have four or more cars — more cars per household than in 96 percent of the country, according to NeighborhoodScout. The vacancy rate in this neighborhood is also about 30 percent. Detroit is to America what crack was for the black community! Shutterstock Continue reading
