Big Sean tells MTV News that 2012 will also bring his F.F.O.E. (Finally Famous Over Everything) mixtape and sophomore album. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Vanessa Whitewolf Kanye West Photo: Getty Images The ball hasn’t even dropped yet, but 2012 is already looking to be a pretty good year for hip-hop thanks to planned releases from Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music clan. “We’re gonna do the G.O.O.D. Music album first; we been working on that,” Big Sean told MTV News a few weeks ago on the set of Wale’s “Slight Work” video in California. “So, me, Kanye, Cudi, CyHi, John Legend, Common, Pusha T, everybody on G.O.O.D., Mr Hudson: We’re all working on a new project; it’s almost done. We’re going to London to finish it up and do the last part of it and working on my album at the same time with ‘Ye and everybody.” Last week just before Christmas, Kanye gave fans across the pond a sneak preview of his label compilation when he DJed at holiday party at LeBaron London. Not only did Yeezy spin G.O.O.D. Music tracks, he also played beats from his upcoming sixth solo album, according to a report on Rap-Up . Maybe New Year’s party-goers will get a taste too, since Kanye tweeted that he’d like to bring in 2012 on the 1s and 2s as well. “I kinda wanna DJ somewhere this New Years,” he wrote Tuesday night. Big Sean estimates that the G.O.O.D. Music album will drop in the spring, and after that, in the summer of 2012, he will be ready to deliver his sophomore album. Before that though, the Detroit MC promises to release a mixtape. Despite his major-label success in 2011, Sean recognizes that it was his mixtape grind that finally made him famous. “I’m sticking to that,” he said. “I got the new F.F.O.E. mixtape, Finally Famous Over Everything, coming, new G.O.O.D. Music album, the next Finally Famous album, so we going hard.” Which project are you most looking forward to: the G.O.O.D. Music album, Big Sean’s F.F.O.E. mixtape or Sean’s sophomore LP? Sean says it was ‘tight’ to work with Hype Williams on the clip, even though some of his favorite scenes were cut. By Rob Markman Big Sean Photo: MTV News Vibrant colors, crisp, clean angles and beautiful models are just some of the ingredients that mark a music video as the work of director Hype Williams. From Missy Elliott’s “The Rain” and Busta Rhymes’ “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See” to Kanye West’s “Stronger” to Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’,” Hype has produced some of hip-hop’s most memorable clips, and now he’d added Big Sean ‘s “Marvin & Chardonnay” to his videography. “I feel like Hype Williams, he’s a legend. So it’s tight to have the legendary Hype with the colors and the beautiful girls,” Big Sean told MTV News of his video which debuted online on Wednesday. “Marvin & Chardonnay” co-stars Kanye West, Roscoe Dash and a handful of curvaceous models. Bright shades of red, yellow and blue pop on and off the screen in time with the song’s schizophrenic drum pattern, while Sean and his G.O.O.D. Music mentor, Kanye, trade verses. The video was shot in July in New York City, and though Sean says that it took a little longer than he expected to get done, he was happy with the end result. “I like how it was classy but still cool as hell at the same time,” the Finally Famous MC said, clearly excited by the wardrobe he, West and Roscoe donned in the vid. “It was fun doing them suits, man. We kept it playa on set, so it was good. I’m glad everybody likes it.” As happy as he is with the final cut, the Detroit rookie rapper admits that there were some things that didn’t make it in the end. “Yeah, it was a lot that didn’t make it on set, man. It was a lot of stuntation goin’ on, a lot of playa sh– that didn’t get to make the final cut of it,” he said. “I was really mad about it, actually. I really made a couple of calls like, ‘Yo why this not in here, man? That was playa.’ I was keepin’ it G, but you know, it doesn’t matter, though. We got all that footage anyway.” Related Artists Big Sean
‘What G.O.O.D. Music stands for is just that quality,’ Sean tells MTV News of Hype Williams-directed clip. By Rob Markman Kanye West and Big Sean Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage If 1970s soul and a good white wine weren’t enough, Big Sean, Kanye West and hook man Roscoe Dash recruited Hype Williams to set the mood for their just-released “Marvin & Chardonnay” video. In true Hype fashion, the clip starts with scrolling credits revealing the video’s brightly styled stars. Vibrant hues of blue, red, purple and yellow pop onscreen and set the tone for the next three minutes and 43 seconds as Big Sean and company rap amid the video’s principal vixens parading to and fro. “Me and Hype are homeys,” Sean told MTV News’ Sway on the “Marvin & Chardonnay” set back in July. “He’s a real dude, and it’s tight being around people that you consider legends and him just being so real. We came up in here and was just blasting DMX and all this different music. He gets inspired creatively from I don’t know what; he just has these crazy ideas.” Sean starts in a powder-blue blazer and matching tank top grinding on a light-skinned model in a two-piece bathing suit. In many ways, “Marvin & Chardonnay” exudes a similar vibe to the video for ‘Ye’s 2005 “Gold Digger” clip, which Williams also directed. What sets Sean’s video apart is Hype’s use of triangular shapes. At key moments, he splits the screen into three parts, leaving the Detroit rapper nestled between the symmetrically placed models. But in the end, there is no real story line or overall message — then again, that was never the point. Instead, we are left with a classic Hype Williams visual. “Colors, the visualization … what G.O.O.D. Music stands for is just that quality. Whatever we do is quality,” Sean said. “If we gonna have girls, we gonna have the best girls. If we gonna have yellow suits, it’s gonna be the best yellow suit. If we gonna have Versaces, it’s gonna be the OG Medusa-head Versace.” What do you think of Sean’s latest video? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Big Sean Kanye West
‘He’ll end your career,’ Game says of Em on ‘RapFix Live,’ following the release of his dis track ‘Uncle Otis.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Game Photo: MTV News The Game made headlines last month when he dropped “Uncle Otis,” a lyrical call-out session on which the Cali rapper poked fun at everyone from Jay-Z to Big Sean to Kreayshawn and 50 Cent . When it comes to hip-hop disses, Game isn’t gun-shy, but there is one MC he would never throw shots at. “One thing that stuck with me is that Eminem is not to be f—ed with ever in hip-hop, ever,” he told Sway on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” Though the pair once collaborated on “We Ain’t,” a track off of Game’s 2005 debut The Documentary, the Compton rapper’s famous feud with Eminem cohort 50 Cent has affected his and Slim Shady’s relationship. Though Game and Marshall no longer speak, Game holds a great amount of respect for the Detroit wordsmith. “If you notice out of everybody I take a shot at, that’s the only person that’s untouched. He’s in a bubble and you don’t even say nothing to Eminem. To anybody that ever does, God bless you,” Game said. “He’ll end your career.” Game, who is signed to Dr. Dre ‘s Aftermath records, got his start in 50’s G-Unit group, appearing on their mixtapes and collaborating with Fif himself. In 2005, a rift grew between the Game and 50 , and subsequent shots were fired as the two rappers’ camps butted heads outside of New York City’s Hot 97 radio station. The two tried to patch things up during a press conference in New York City a few months later, but the truce didn’t last. Game even told MTV News that Michael Jackson once tried to bring the two warring rappers together, but things didn’t pan out. The feud between Game and 50 affected both of their relationships with Dr. Dre, who has overseen both careers, and affected Game’s relationship with Eminem. “It just had to happen, man, and I was put into a situation where I had to defend myself lyrically and I did,” Game said of the many dis records he threw G-Unit’s way. “It wasn’t personal to anybody; I told that to Dre, I’ve told that to Paul Rosenberg, who manages Em, and the only the person I hadn’t spoke to about it was Em and 50.” “Sometimes stuff happens and I wish it had longevity,” he said of the Dre/50/Eminem relationship. “But it didn’t, so no regrets on my behalf.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Game, Diddy And Machine Gun Kelly Related Artists The Game Eminem Dr. Dre
