Eminem, Lil Wayne Toss Salvos On Anguished ‘No Love’

The Just Blaze-produced duet samples unlikely dance track ‘What Is Love?’. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem’s Recovery Photo: Interscope Eminem and Lil Wayne toss lyrical salvos on their Recovery collaboration, “No Love,” which arrived online Tuesday (June 8), leaked to the web with the rest of Em’s album. Just Blaze produced the angst-ridden number, which, somewhat surprisingly, samples the Haddaway dance track “What Is Love?” better known as the theme for the Saturday Night Live “Roxbury Guys” sketches than for its rap cred. On the menacing track, though, Wayne and Em swap tough-guy rhymes. “They call me a freak because I like to spit on these p—–s before I eat them,” Em raps on the second verse. “Get these wack co——ers offstage/ Where’s Kanye when you need him?” Later on the track, Em croons in a sing-song flow on the chorus: “It’s a little too late to say that you’re sorry now/ You kicked me when I was down/ But what you say … don’t hurt me.” The track marks the first time the two have specifically traded rhymes as a pair on one track. On Drake’s “Forever,” the two guest MCs were joined by Kanye West. And although Em and Wayne appeared together on “Drop the World,” off the Young Money star’s rock-leaning effort, Rebirth, Wayne wasn’t rapping as much as singing (aided by Auto-Tune). While traveling overseas recently, Eminem had high praise for his collaborator. The duo have long admired each other, and Wayne campaigned for years to join the Detroit MC on a track. “I’ve always respected what Wayne does, and Wayne, to me, is definitely one of the greatest in the game right now,” Em said. Eminem Admits Being Jealous Of Lil Wayne, Kanye West On ‘Talkin’ 2 Myself’

‘I almost made a song dissing Lil Wayne,’ he raps on the Recovery track. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil’ Wayne and Eminem performs onstage during the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Eminem dived into the depths of his drug dependency for his last album, Recovery, and on his forthcoming Recovery, he continues to speak on some of the low points in his life. On the track “Talkin’ 2 Myself,” the Detroit MC admits being jealous of Lil Wayne’s and Kanye West’s rising prominence. “I went away, I guess, and opened up some lanes,” Em raps on the DJ Khalil-produced number. “But there was no one who even knew I was going through growing pains/ Hate was flowing through my veins/ On the verge of going insane/ I almost made a song dissing Lil Wayne.” In the song, Em later claims that the attention Wayne and Kanye were receiving while he was away prompted the intended attack. But he backed away when he realized he wouldn’t have been much of an opponent, in his condition. “I would have had my ass handed to me” he spits, acknowledging his respect for their craft. Upstart singer Kobe is featured on “Talkin’ 2 Myself.” He’s one of the few guests on Recovery, in addition to Lil Wayne, Pink and Rihanna. For the set, though, Eminem reached out to a slew of producers he never worked with before, including Just Blaze, Havoc, Boi-1da and Khalil. Recovery is slated for a June 22 release, however the project leaked to the Web on Tuesday (June 8). In the past, the rapper’s recording home, Interscope Records, has shifted the album release forward to compensate for such leaks. As of press time, the label had yet to indicate whether the release date for Recovery would be moved up. Are you surprised that Eminem nearly went after Lil Wayne and Kanye West? Eminem Reveals He’s ‘Rebuilding’ Shady Records

‘There’s a new group we’re looking to sign, Slaughterhouse,’ Em says of hip-hop group. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem Photo: Universal With the release last year of his album Relapse, Eminem announced to the world that he was looking after himself and his music after a five-year hiatus. Now, as he puts the finishing touches on his follow-up, Recovery, the Detroit MC says he plans to focus on his record label, Shady Records. In an interview with BBC’s Radio 1 on Friday (June 4), Eminem was asked about mentoring up-and-coming rappers, and Em admitted he’d been eying a few acts. “We’re kinda trying to start the process of rebuilding our label, Shady Records,” he said. “I’m sure I’ll be looking for younger talent, coming up. There’s a new group we’re looking to sign, Slaughterhouse,” he said referring to the rap supergroup made up of Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, and Royce da 5’9″. “But I don’t want to give anything away. We’re looking at a few [artists] now.” Slaughterhouse has been linked to Em for some time, beginning last year when the foursome appeared with Eminem in Drake’s “Forever” video. Their cameo led to speculation that the heralded underground lyricists would soon be connecting with the Slim Shady camp. Royce da 5’9″ spoke to MTV News in September and didn’t deny the rumors. “It’s very much what it looks like,” Royce said of Slaughterhouse joining the Shady roster. “That’s always a possibility. It’s conversations being had, very good conversations. I just did an interview recently and they asked me to address the rumors. I said, ‘Rumors are what they are, people see things and they jump to a conclusion.’ I never said it wasn’t going to happen — I left it right there in the middle. I think it would be a great thing if it could happen.” Earlier this year, Ortiz said negotiations were in the “ninth inning,” but more important, the Brooklyn wordsmith revealed Slaughterhouse and Emimem have already begun collaborating on music while they wait for the ink to dry on the paperwork. “We got in the studio with Em already,” he said. “We traded bars and stuff with all of us.” Which MCs would you like to see Eminem sign to Shady Records? Eminem’s ‘Won’t Back Down,’ Featuring Pink, Hits The Web

On the Recovery track, Em fires off a slew of lyrical punch lines over DJ Khalil’s spiked organs. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem’s Recovery Photo: Interscope The second single from Eminem’s forthcoming Recovery album, “Won’t Back Down,” was released online Thursday (June 3) via RapRadar.com . The track, produced by DJ Khalil, features Pink and finds Eminem firing off a slew of lyrical punch lines. “Listen, garden tool/ Don’t make me introduce you to my power tool,” the Detroit native raps over Khalil’s spiked organs. “You know the f—ing drill/ How you douche bags feel?/ Knowing you’re disposable, Summer’s Eve, Massengill.” Eminem spoke about his Recovery collaborations while in France on a promotional tour. Pink, Rihanna and Lil Wayne are all featured, a departure from Em’s previous projects, where the guest lists were usually limited to Shady or Aftermath artists. For “Won’t Back Down,” he explained, Pink was added to the track after it was completed. “When I did the song that I did with Pink, I laid my parts first and kind of heard her on the record and felt that she would smash this record,” Em said. Pink certainly delivers a fiery warning on the chorus. “You can sound the alarm, you can call out your guards/ You can fence in your yard, you can pull all the cards/ But I won’t back down, I won’t back down,” she sings. The song follows “Not Afraid,” the first offering from Recovery, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. What do you think about Eminem and Pink’s collaboration?
