Ewwwwwwww NYC Cronut Bakery Closed Due To Mouse Infestation via ABC News Health officials say they’ve closed a New York City bakery famous for serving up delicious croissant-doughnut hybrid treats called Cronuts because of a “severe mouse infestation.” A Department of Health spokeswoman says the Dominique Ansel Bakery in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood was shut down Friday. She says the rodent problem requires professional pest control but the bakery can reopen after inspectors determine the problem is fixed. A spokeswoman for French chef Dominique Ansel’s establishment tells WNBC-TV she hopes to reopen Monday after another examination. Cronuts have become a food craze in New York. According to TMZ: Chris Brown is en route — a long route — to Washington D.C. … and when Con Air finally lands he could face the possibility of PRISON for the alleged D.C. assault. Prosecutors just filed legal docs — obtained by TMZ — in which they say the reason they’ve taken the case to the grand jury is because they believe they have the evidence to support a felony prosecution. Chris is currently charged with misdemeanor assault. His lawyer, Mark Geragos, has filed legal docs asking that the case be dismissed on grounds prosecutors misused the grand jury system by simply trying to get a dry run of the trial. But prosecutors are now firing back … saying the injuries were serious enough to require hospitalization on the part of the alleged victim, and that could justify a felony if they get more evidence. They weren’t feeling Quinton’s extra pounds. Blind Side Actor Forced Off Flight For Being Too Fat According to TMZ: Quinton Aaron was booted from a flight Friday for excess baggage — his stomach. Quinton — who stands 6’8″ and weighs 500 lbs — tells TMZ … he typically buys 2 seats when he flies but only one was available. Quinton boarded the U.S. Airways jet in Philly for a 1 hour flight to Rochester, but never even got to hear the safety message. He says the passenger who was booked in the coach seat next to him was blindsided and could not wedge himself onto the cushion because of Q.A.’s girth. Quinton says he talked it out with the flight attendant — to no avail — and he was politely asked to leave the plane and then booked a later flight … where he secured 2 seats. Quinton adds, “I definitely need two seats … It worked out for the better … my knees weren’t pushed into the back of the metal on someone else’s seat.” Cotdayuuuuum, homie weighs 500 pounds. White Political Activist Says Majority Of People Want To Believe He’s Of Another Race People can be so ignorant sometimes… So we’re not surprised to hear that Michael Skolnik, a political activist, filmmaker and writer who is one of Melissa Harris-Perry’s regular guests believes most people would rather believe he’s not white because they can’t understand why he’d work so hard on behalf of the poor and people of color. Via The Griot : Skolnik, who has been dubbed a modern-day civil rights leader, has become a voice for young America. His 2012 open letter, titled “White People, You Will Never Look Suspicious Like Trayvon Martin” raised his profile even further, going viral on the Internet. He now serves on the Board of Directors for the Trayvon Martin Foundation, founded by the 17-year-old’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin. Skolnik undoubtedly inspires affection and respect among those who applaud his vision to bring to the forefront issues affecting the voiceless. But he completely understands that a good number of people don’t ‘get’ him. “I think that the majority of people want to believe I am not white,” he says, in response to being asked whether people ever speculate if he’s a light-skinned African-American. In fact, his low cut hair makes it nearly impossible to gauge its texture. “If I’m white then it’s confusing. If I’m mixed [race] it’s an easier story to tell. If I’m a light-skinned African-American then it’s a really easy story to tell.” “If I’m white, then wait a second, we’ve never heard a white person talk like that.” Although, Skolnik says the motivation behind his work is pretty simple: empathy or a desire for a more “inclusive” and “compassionate” society. Woman Declared Dead But Wakes Up In A Mortuary Then Freezes To Death The family of a woman who may have been prematurely declared dead , awoke in the hospital’s freezer and struggled before ultimately freezing to death can go forward with a lawsuit against the hospital, an appellate court has ruled. Via LA Times reports: Maria de Jesus Arroyo, 80, was pronounced dead in July 2010 at White Memorial Medical Center in Boyle Heights after suffering a heart attack. When morticians received her body a few days later, they found her body facedown, with her nose broken and cuts and bruises to her face, injuries so severe they could not be covered up by make-up, according to court papers. Arroyo’s husband and eight children initially sued the hospital alleging the body had been mishandled after her death. But during litigation, a pathologist who reviewed Arroyo’s injuries concluded the injuries most likely occurred while she was still alive – that she had been “frozen alive,” “eventually woke up” and “damaged her face and turned herself face down as she struggled unsuccessfully to escape her frozen tomb,” according court records. The family’s attorney, Scott Schutzman, withdrew the mishandling lawsuit and refiled a second case in May 2012 alleging the hospital had mistakenly declared her dead and frozen her while she was still living. A Los Angeles trial judge threw out that lawsuit, siding with the hospital’s attorneys that the second suit was filed too late, beyond the one-year statute of limitations after the family discovered Arroyo’s injuries. The hospital has not addressed the allegation that Arroyo was prematurely declared dead, according to court records. The 2nd District Court of Appeal on Wednesday overturned the trial judge and revived the medical malpractice suit, finding that the family could not have known Arroyo may have been prematurely declared deceased and frozen alive until the pathologist gave his expert opinion, in December 2011. “Plaintiffs had absolutely no reason to suspect that the decedent was alive rather than dead when placed in the Hospital morgue and when the disfiguring injuries occurred,” the appellate justices wrote in their opinion. Since it is not acceptable to put those responsible in a body bag and freeze them to death, monetary compensation is the only remedy available.

Looks like Olivia Pope came through for Columbus. Columbus Short Bar Fight Victim Refuses To Press Charges It pays to be a gladiator. According to TMZ: “Scandal” star Columbus Short’s alleged bar fight victim has refused to press charges against the actor — despite serious injuries to his head and back — and we’re told … it’s all because of family ties. The victim’s lawyer tells TMZ, he’s been in contact with Columbus’ management to come to some sort of settlement without involving police. We’re told the victim has made it clear to investigators he doesn’t want the case pursued criminally. The reason … the lawyer tells us both men are tight with the same people — the alleged fight went down at a family member’s engagement party — so the victim wants to resolve this as amicably as possible. If they end up settling, Short could end up paying a boatload in medical expenses — we’re told the victim suffered a facial fracture and a massive concussion from Short’s punch, as well as serious neck and back injuries.
