Riley Cooper Leaves Eagles For Counseling Via TMZ reports: Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper needs some serious n-word counseling … so much so he’s taken a leave from the team. A rep for the Eagles was blunt and to the point: “Riley Cooper will be seeking counseling and we have excused him from all team activities.” The rep says Riley needs to understand how his racist threats — to fight every n***er at the Kenny Chesney concert — are hurtful. The team is hedging over whether Cooper will be welcome back. For his part, Riley says, “The organization and my teammates have been extremely supportive, but I also realize that there are people who will have a tough time forgiving me for what I’ve done. God put you in jail for a reason, but why were you holding a gun on that surveillance footage? God always knows something we don’t. According to TMZ Aaron Hernandez wrote a pen pal a letter from inside his jail cell, declaring his innocence, saying his murder charges are God’s plan, and vowing to return to the NFL … and TMZ has a copy. We have verified with law enforcement the letter is the real deal. You can read it yourself … among the highlights: – “The world just makes things out of false accusations … and it will all die down, especially when they say NOT GUILTY” – “All the people who turned on me will feel like crap.” – “God put me in this situation for a reason.” – “Can’t wait to sign [autographs] again when I’m playing again an [sic] prove all the haters WRONG.” As for the fan who received the letter, Karl … he just called in to “TMZ Live” and told us he wrote Hernandez first. Karl says he sent the letter because he was in the same jail 15 years ago, and wanted to reach out to Hernandez to give him some encouragement. Karl also says he would like to visit Aaron in jail — if Aaron will let him. Pope Francis Reaches Out To The Gays Via HuffPo reports: Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn’t judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip. “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” Francis asked. His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten. Francis’ remarks came Monday during a plane journey back to the Vatican from his first foreign trip in Brazil. He was funny and candid during a news conference that lasted almost an hour and a half. He didn’t dodge a single question, even thanking the journalist who raised allegations reported by an Italian newsmagazine that one of his trusted monsignors was involved in a scandalous gay tryst. Francis said he investigated and found nothing to back up the allegations. Francis was asked about Italian media reports suggesting that a group within the church tried to blackmail fellow church officials with evidence of their homosexual activities. Italian media reported this year that the allegations contributed to Benedict’s decision to resign While stressing Catholic social teaching that calls for homosexuals to be treated with dignity and not marginalized, Francis said it was something else entirely to conspire to use private information for blackmail or to exert pressure. Francis was responding to reports that a trusted aide was involved in an alleged gay tryst a decade ago. He said he investigated the allegations according to canon law and found nothing to back them up. But he took journalists to task for reporting on the matter, saying the allegations concerned matters of sin, not crimes like sexually abusing children. Train Operator In Spain Derailment Bragged About Going Too Fast On Facebook According to The NY Post Not only was one of the operators of the Spanish train that fatally derailed Wednesday going way too fast, he also found time to brag about it on Facebook. Francisco Jose Garzon Amo posted photos of the train’s speedometer on the social networking site, according to Spain media outlet El Pais. Garzon is in custody at a hospital where he is recovering from minor injuries. The accident claimed the lives of at least 80 people. Garzon, 52, posted a photo of the speedometer reading 200 km/h (125 mph). He responded to a friend who commented on the picture: “If I went any faster, they’d fine me.” A screengrab was obtained by Gawker.com and then later removed from Garzon’s Facebook. “What fun it would be to drive side-by-side the police and then pass them by, triggering the speed radar,” Garzon added. “Haha, bit of a fine or [train operator] Renfe, ha ha!” Garzon, a 30-year veteran of Spain’s national rail network, radioed in right before the crash saying the train was going “190” km/h (120 mph). An Associated Press analysis of video images suggests the train may have been traveling at twice the speed limit, or more, along that curved stretch of track. Spain’s government said two probes have been launched into the train’s derailment Wednesday night on its approach to this Christian festival city in northwest Spain, where planned celebrations in honor of one of Jesus’ disciples gave way to a living nightmare. The regional government in Galicia confirmed that police planned to question Garzon, in Santiago de Compostela’s main hospital with unspecified injuries, as both a witness and as a possible suspect, but cautioned that possible faults in safety equipment were also being investigated. The Interior Ministry raised the death toll to 80 in what was Spain’s deadliest train wreck in four decades. The Galician government said 94 others remained hospitalized in six regional hospitals, 31 of them — including four children — in critical condition. The U.S. State Department said one American was killed in the crash and five others were injured. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said those numbers were “likely to change” and declined to elaborate. “Today the American people grieve with our Spanish friends, who are in our thoughts and prayers,” President Barack Obama said in a statement. Beyonce is recording music in the studio while completing her Mrs. Carter World Tour, the representative said in a phone call to HuffPost. A press rollout will accompany any official release date (and, if need be, any official delays). The 31-year-old singer has been working on the forthcoming album for some time now, her first since she released “4″ in 2011. While she has performed new music in the form of ad campaigns with H&M and Pepsi, she has yet to debut an official single off of the record. That album better be straight fire.
