Pegasus ST09 9-Inch LCD HDTV with ATSC Tuner reviews

This small set meets our needs perfectly. It was purchased to replace our trusty 5 in BW analog at the time of the digital conversion. We use this set only in the bathroom in the morning to watch news and sports while getting ready for work, so we are not with concerned with receiving scores of channels. It took about 9 days to arrive using the free shipping option. The set was well packaged and unlikely to be damaged with routine handling. Setup was a breeze following stepwise instructions (wit

Vanessa Hudgens Has A Lot To Teach Her Sister

I guess the Spring Breakers tour is on pause for a little while, because here’s Vanessa Hudgens heading back from the gym with her sister Stella , and teaching her how to hide from the paparazzi by covering her face with a water bottle. Except it’s clear plastic so it’s obviously not working too well. Anyway, I know I’d been asking Vanessa to ditch her sister for these gym trips, but now that Stella’s almost 18, it’s important that she learns as much as she can from her older sister. Hopefully next they’ll move on to how to use the time delay setting on her digital camera. » view all 21 photos Related Articles: Vanessa Hudgens’ Got Little Cleavage Vanessa Hudgens Sex Tape? SUNDANCE: ‘Sound City’ Premiere Finds Dave Grohl Rocking With Rick Springfield

No live music was played, but the Saturday afternoon premiere of Dave Grohl’s Sound City documentary — about the fabled-yet-scuzzy Van Nuys, CA recording studio of the same name where Nirvana , Neil Young , Fleetwood Mac, Rick Springfield , Rage Against the Machine and Fear recorded landmark albums — felt like an all-star rock concert. Fans stood on street corners near the Marc theater, where the film debuted, offering to purchase tickets from anyone with a spare, and the musical artists who turned out to watch the documentary, included former Creedence Clearwater frontman John Fogerty, Grohl’s former Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic (pictured on the right) and Pat Smear, Springfield and Stevie Nicks, most or all of whom are expected to play with Grohl in a live show later tonight on Main Street in Park City. Before the screening, Grohl called the film “the most important thing I’ve done artistically,” and at the Q&A session that followed the movie, noted that the digital revolution, which transformed music industry (and essentially killed Sound City, which did things the analog way) enabled him to become a filmmaker  and tell the story of the recording studio’s rightful place in rock ‘n’ roll history. “I made a movie. It’s shocking, really,” Grohl said. “Next, I’ll be flying your plane to Dulles.” Grohl and Sound City got an enthusiastic standing ovation at the end, and the people in the audience around me seemed to really be rocking out to a segment that has the surviving members of Nirvana playing with former Beatle Paul McCartney .  The part of the movie that rocked my world, however,  was when Grohl performed the gritty “The Man That Never Was,” with Springfield.   Like a number of other performances, the song, which was co-written by Springfield, Grohl and others was recorded on Sound City’s fabled Neve console, which the Foo Fighter bought for his own 606 Studios when Sound City closed its doors as a commercial recording business in 2011. Grohl said these songs will be released on a Sound City album in March. I especially loved it when, after the performance, Nevermind producer (and Garbage drummer) Butch Vig tells Springfield: “You got some darkness in you, boy!” Springfield also turns out to have been an important part of the studio’s history and vice versa. He recorded his 1981  Working Class Dog there, which contained his breakthrough hit “Jessie’s Girl.”  The success of that album was important to Sound City’s success.  Springfield was also managed by Sound City’s original owner and even met his wife, Barbara Porter, who was an assistant there. I’m hoping that Springfield performs with Grohl on Main Street tonight, and that, as a result, Sundance sees a warp in the time-space continuum. See you on the other side. SUNDANCE: Directors Tease ‘Computer Chess,’ ‘Spectacular Now,’ ‘Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes,’ ‘Salma,’ And ‘Blackfish’

The Sundance Film Festival opens Thursday with a new crop of anticipated indies — some of which will define the cinematic year. Last year’s narrative winner Beasts of the Southern Wild received a slew of Oscar nominations this year along with other titles. Which ones will emerge this year? Over the next week, Movieline will give a snapshot of the filmmakers themselves in their own words along with trailers. Here Andrew Bujalski ( Computer Chess ), James Ponsoldt ( The Spectacular Now ), Francesca Gregorini ( Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes ), Kim Longinotto ( Salma ), and Gabriela Cowperthwaite ( Blackfish ) preview their films. Computer Chess by director Andrew Bujalski Synopsis (via Sundance ): “Is there a computer program in the house which can stand up against a human chess master?” That’s the question posed by mastermind of the game Pat Henderson, head of an annual computer chess tournament. Set in 1980 in a nondescript hotel, Computer Chess follows several young geniuses as they try to make the ultimate chess program to beat a human player. As the nerdy guys sweat through various social situations (especially with the one girl there), and the convention overlaps with a group of new-age couples in therapy, things get really strange. Computer Chess quick pitch: Computer Chess takes place 30-some years ago at the dawn of the digital age, an era when nerds were nerds (not the well-paid guys with decent haircuts and cute girlfriends you see today), and the rest of us had no idea what was coming. Why it’s worth checking out at Sundance and beyond: Who knows when you’ll get another chance? I’m quite confident it won’t be much like anything else you see this year. How it all came together: I’d spent the early part of 2011 trying to pull together a much more expensive project, with movie stars, etc (y’know, a “Sundance” kind of movie…) and when that hit a brick wall for that year, I determined to go make this cheaper, stranger dream project I’d been fantasizing about forever. So I called up some producer buddies and said, “Hey, wanna make a movie with me that has zero commercial potential? We don’t have a dime for it, I haven’t cast anyone yet, I also haven’t written a script. It’s a period piece, on a subject matter that I don’t really know anything about. We’re going to shoot it on an experimental camera rig that we’ll have to design from scratch. We start shooting in, I dunno, 2 or 3 months. Whaddya say?” Some background on the cast: It’s the greatest cast ever assembled! Some of Austin TX’s hardest hustling actors alongside a whole bunch of explosive new discoveries. A lot of real-deal computer experts, as they bring knowledge and a feeling for that culture much better than I could ever instruct anyone to do. *Definitely* the greatest extras ever assembled. And the phenomenal Patrick Riester in the closest thing this broad ensemble has to a lead role — nothing would delight me more than for him to be the hot new flavor-of-the-week discovery out of Sundance, though I’m sure nothing would horrify him more. Next: James Ponsoldt on The Spectacular Now , starring Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley —

Steven Spielberg Behind Clinton’s Globes Appearance: Biz Break

The Clinton on-stage appearance was kept very hushed to maintain the surprise. Also in Monday’s round-up of news, Zero Dark Thirty tops the weekend’s box office as it headed into wide release; the Golden Globes had their best ratings in years; the Berlin International Film Festival sets its co-production market; and Robert DeNiro will receive honors at an Italian festival ahead of the Oscars. Steven Spielberg Behind Bill Clinton’s Surprise Golden Globes Appearance Lincoln director Steven Spielberg was the mover and shaker behind former President Bill Clinton’s appearance Sunday night at the Golden Globes. Only a handful of people at the Globes knew the 42nd President was coming. To keep the secret, those who did know were told to say the surprise presenter would be Prince Albert of Monaco, Deadline reports . Zero Dark Thirty Tops Weekend Box Office The film by Kathryn Bigelow expanded to 2,937 theaters over the weekend, grossing $24 million with an $8,712 average, easily winning the box office among domestic theatrical releases. Golden Globes Best Ratings Since 2007 NBC’s airing of the three-hour live telecast of the Golden Globes Sunday night was up 12% over last year’s showIn the 25 markets with Local People Meters, the telecast had a 25% rise in the key 18 – 49 demographic, Deadline reports . Berlin International Film Festival Expands Co-Production Market Coinciding with the festival, the Co-Production Market will present 38 new feature film projects with 450 possible projects including U.S. projects from James Bolton ( A Secret Life ) and John Michael Morgan’s The Cavanaughs , Variety reports . Robert DeNiro to be Feted by L.A. Italian Fest DeNiro will be honored by the Los Angeles-Italia Film, Fashion and Art Fest next month ahead of the Oscars. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook , THR reports . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Do The Tommy Lee Jones! 5 Top Golden Globe Moments

I can’t say I loved last night’s Golden Globe Awards in their entirety.  There was something unfocused and rather boilerplate about the telecast as a whole, but it did have its memorable moments. Here are my Top Five.  Memo to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association: Pay special attention to Number 2 if you want next year’s awards to be an improvement.  1. Jodie Foster’s speech:  Whether you liked the I’m-coming-out-by-telling-you-that-I’ve-been-out aspect of her speech, or thought that she should have been one of those brave souls — like Ellen DeGeneres   — who battled Hollywood homophobia by taking a stand when there was real career risk involved, Foster gave us a refreshing blast of emotional honesty, as well as and opinions about privacy and career, that we’ll be dissecting for a long time. Her words were a welcome departure from all of the on-message speeches, like Jessica Chastain’s  comparison of Kathryn Bigelow  to her character Maya, and Hugh Jackman’s homage to his wife Deborra-Lee Furness — versions of which they’ve given at other awards ceremonies — that make statuette season unnecessarily repetitive and dull. 2. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey :   If you were keeping tabs on the Twitter-verse during the awards, one of the recurring cries out there was more Amy and Tina. Whoever hosts the Globes tends to disappear toward the middle of the show, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association should fix that when they beg Poehler and Fey to come back 2014, which they should be doing right this very minute. I was a fan of Ricky Gervais ‘ poke-in-the-eye style, but the ladies got the tone just right. With the exception of their opening  James Cameron joke, they were sharp without being lacerating, and frickin’ funny. (That said, I thought the Cameron joke was the best line of the night.)   Their audience cameos were most welcome, too.  Bring them back and make them a bigger part of the show. Despite a number of memorable moments, last night’s awards suffered from a lack of cohesiveness that Fey and Poehler could have brought to the telecast if they’d just been on camera more. 3. Tommy Lee Jones’ Scowl:   A number of websites credit Jones with the quote, “I do not have a sense of humor of any recognizable sort,” and though his work in Men in Black and other movies suggests otherwise, the actor sure seemed to be in a foul mood at the Globes.  The first time I recognized Jones’ award-winning scowl was when Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig were doing their clueless Garth and Kat-style take on the Best Supporting Actress Nominees for the Musical or Comedy category. (That funny but rather lengthy performance would have clocked in at Number 6 here if this list extended beyond 5.)  If you missed it,  Jones’  can be seen in the clip below while the comedy duo is discussing his co-star Meryl Streep’s performance in Hope Springs , and he looks like he smells a really bad fart. But there could have been other factors at play, too. By that point, Jones had already lost out to Christoph Waltz in the Best Supporting Actor category, and I couldn’t help but notice that he was not at the same table as director Steven Spielberg and his fellow Lincoln co-star Daniel Day-Lewis . Jones was also wearing the same dyspeptic look much later when the camera returned to him later in the telecast.  Whatever the reason for Jones’ malaise, I applaud him for it. His scowl was as honest as his acting and almost as refreshing as Foster’s speech. 4. Ben Affleck’s Argo Wins:   For two reasons:  There’s a lot of good will for Affleck out there and though the Golden Globe win doesn’t make up for him being snubbed by the Academy in the Best Director category, it does ease the pain somewhat for everyone who was rooting for him. More significantly, Argo’s   Best Picture (Drama) win is yet another sign that Spielberg and  Lincoln no longer have a lock on Best Director and Picture Oscars. 5. Bill Clinton’s Appearance on Behalf of Lincoln : I can’t say I was surprised when Clinton showed up.  He and a pre- Sugarland Express (but post- Duel )  Spielberg worked together on George McGovern’s campaign and the director, who orchestrated the deal, according to Deadline , has been a longtime supporter of Clinton. What I loved most about the appearance is the mutual admiration society that exists between William Jefferson and Hollywood. He got a standing ovation from the crowd and one of the night’s big laughs. After noting that the passage of the 13th Amendment required Lincoln to “make a lot of unsavory deals that had nothing to do with the big issue,” the former president added:  “I wouldn’t know anything about that.”  They used to say Bill Clinton was a political rock star. Turns out he’s been a movie star all along. [ Deadline ] Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter.  Follow Movieline on Twitter.
