‘Arrested Development’ To Shoot This Summer?

Michael Cera updates MTV News on progress of ‘Arrested Development’ movie and new TV episodes. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michael Cera Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — Bluth-family fans collectively blue themselves when it was announced that “Arrested Development” would be coming back in both film and television form. Netflix announced late last year that they would be backing new episodes of “Arrested” that would pave the way for an eventual feature film. Despite the good news, fans remain in the dark regarding when “Arrested Development” might actually go back into production. But according to Michael Cera , who spoke with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival about his new movie “The End of Love,” the Bluth reunion may be coming together sooner than expected. “I’ve heard summer,” Cera told MTV News. “So hopefully that’s going to happen.” Still, like his “Arrested” costars, Cera is of the “I’ll believe it when I see it” school of thought. “It’s hard to be excited, because I don’t feel any progress day to day,” he said. “But I’m sure it’s happening. I think it’s just out of my realm of awareness. I’ll be happy when we’re on set doing it.” Cera’s fellow “Arrested” actor Alia Shawkat also spoke with MTV News at Sundance and expressed her enthusiasm about getting back into the Bluth household sooner than later. “It’s been kind of following me around like a very attractive albatross,” she said of her “Arrested Development” history. “But now it’s hopefully going to happen. It would be very exciting.” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Neil Young Angered By ‘Sound Of Music Today’

‘We’re in the 21st century and we have the worst sound that we’ve ever had,’ Young tells MTV News at Sundance Film Festival. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Neil Young Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — It’s hard to argue about the digital age of music in terms of efficiency and portability. When it comes down to cycling through shelves upon shelves of old CDs versus taking one’s entire library of music on the go in a single handheld device, the choice seems rather clear. But convenience aside, there is something missing in the digital translation of tunes — at least there is according to legendary folk rocker Neil Young, who spoke with MTV News in Park City (where he’s promoting the Slamdance release of his new Jonathan Demme-helmed documentary “Neil Young Journeys”) and expressed his concerns over the current state of “the sound of music.” “I’m finding that I have a little bit of trouble with the quality of the sound of music today,” Young said. “I don’t like it. It just makes me angry. Not the quality of the music, but we’re in the 21st century and we have the worst sound that we’ve ever had. It’s worse than a 78 [rpm record]. Where are our geniuses? What happened?” Young argued that MP3s feature only 5 percent of the data from an original master file, which he sees as a major problem. “If you’re an artist and you created something and you knew the master was 100 percent great, but the consumer got 5 percent, would you be feeling good?” he asked. “I like to point that out to artists. That’s why people listen to music differently today. It’s all about the bottom and the beat driving everything, and that’s because in the resolution of the music, there’s nothing else you can really hear. The warmth and the depth at the high end is gone.” The singer-songwriter likened the current state of music to an equally present political movement: “It’s like Occupy Music — the 5 percent, that’s who we are now. We used to be the hundred percent!” Young isn’t unilaterally dissatisfied with the modern era of music, however. He said he’s pleased by the returning popularity of the folk genre, for instance, particularly in the hands of capable musicians like Mumford and Sons and My Morning Jacket. “Mumford and Sons and My Morning Jacket are great bands,” Young said. “I love them both and I know them well. I feel good about saying that.” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. When The Checks Stop Coming In… Kodak Files Bankruptcy Because They Are $7 Billi In The Hole!!!

Damn shame that “a picture is worth a thousand words” and not dollars ! Eastman Kodak Co. filed for bankruptcy protection early Thursday morning, after the film pioneer failed to raise fresh cash to fund a long-sputtering turnaround, The Wall Street Journal reported. The 131-year-old company struggled for decades to cope with the emergence of competitors in its film business and the rise of digital technology. But its final pivot — an attempt to transform itself into a company selling printers — proved too costly amid declining film sales and expensive obligations to its retirees. The company said in a statement it has obtained “a fully-committed, $950 million debtor-in-possession credit facility with an 18-month maturity from Citigroup to enhance liquidity and working capital.” It said it believes it has “sufficient liquidity” to continue business operations during Chapter 11. “Kodak is taking a significant step toward enabling our enterprise to complete its transformation,” Kodak CEO Antonio Perez said in a statement. “Chapter 11 gives us the best opportunities to maximize the value in two critical parts of our technology portfolio: our digital capture patents … and our breakthrough printing and deposition technologies, which give Kodak a competitive advantage in our growing digital businesses.” Perez pointed out the fact that the company has effectively moved away from its traditional film operations, “closing 13 manufacturing plants and 130 processing labs, and reducing our workforce by 47,000 since 2003.” “Now we must complete the transformation by further addressing our cost structure and effectively monetizing non-core IP assets,” he said. “We look forward to working with our stakeholders to emerge a lean, world-class, digital imaging and materials science company.” The statement said that the Rochester-based company expects to pay employee wages and benefits and continue customer programs. Subsidiaries of the company outside the US will not be affected by the bankruptcy filing. The voluntary petitions for Chapter 11 business reorganization were filed in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The filing came as little surprise, with The Wall Street Journal reporting ahead of the announcement that the company was appointing a chief restructuring officer in anticipation of bankruptcy. Shares of Kodak ended Wednesday trading up 4.4 percent at 55 cents, but have fallen 14.6 percent during January, and almost 90 percent over the past 12 months, according to Fact Set data, MarketWatch reported. Eastman Kodak last week unveiled a new, streamlined business structure aimed at increasing productivity, cutting costs and boosting the troubled company’s digital business. Under the new structure, Kodak reduced its number of segments from three to two — the Commercial Segment and Consumer Segment. Kodak previously had three operating units: the graphic communications group, which provided digital equipment and software to printing industries; the consumer digital imaging group, which focused on print images; and film, photofinishing and entertainment. Kodak listed assets of $5.1 billion and debt of $6.8 billion in the bankruptcy filing. We hope they’re able to recover. It would be a shame to lose a pioneering company like Kodak. ‘Twilight’ Pop Culture Parodies: Celebrating The Year’s Best

We look back at videos that got the ‘Twilight’ treatment in this week’s ‘Twilight’ Tuesday. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part I” Photo: Summit Entertainment In the spirit of the season of giving and spreading holiday cheer, this week’s “Twilight” Tuesday is all about the gifts we’ve received via several higher-profile “Twilight” parodies that were prevalent in pop culture this year. With four films having been unleashed upon the masses to date, there is more than enough material to work with, and you know what they say about imitation: It’s the highest form of flattery. Without further ado, here are the best videos that got the “Twilight” treatment in 2011, plus a couple old-school standouts that are always worth revisiting. Auto-Tuned at the Oscars The Academy wasn’t subtle about trying to lure younger viewers for the 83rd annual Oscars telecast when they signed on co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway, and that was even more apparent when a musical mash-up was introduced that featured short Auto-Tuned videos from the year’s most popular films. The “Twilight” moment arrived toward the end of the video in a little ditty titled “He Doesn’t Own a Shirt,” which featured that infamous scene in “Eclipse” wherein Edward scoffs at Jacob’s impossibly toned abs and asks Bella why the werewolf never wears shirts. Nickelodeon’s Fred Figglehorn Does “Twilight” Speaking of shirtlessness, in Nickelodeon’s “Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred,” Internet celeb Fred Figglehorn showed off his own set of impressive abs in a kooky Jacob vs. Volturi-type scene . In this setup, Fred/Jacob has a squeaky high-pitched voice and instead of turning into a wolf, he morphs into a Pomeranian. “Breaking Prawn” With the Muppets We can all agree that the marketing campaign for “The Muppets” was brilliant. After taking on the likes of “Green Lantern” and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” via parody trailers, our favorite fuzzy friends spoofed “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” with their “Breaking Prawn” clip and three equally clever posters advertising “The Muppet Saga” that featured Kermit as “Vamphibian,” Miss Piggy as “Bella Swine” and Rowlf as “WereRowlf.” Bonus #1: Jimmy Kimmel’s “Friggin’ Twilight” Yes, this video arrived in 2010, but because it stars our very own colorful characters from “Jersey Shore,” it’s too good not to mention here. This little gem first aired during Kimmel’s talk show and featured Snooki as Bella, The Situation as Edward, JWoww as Alice, Vinnie as Tyler Crowley, Pauly D as Jacob, Ronnie and Sammy as Cullens/Volturi, and a cameo by “Shore” cast-off Angelina as evil Victoria. Most ridiculous moments involve The Sitch’s sparkling abs and Pauly D’s stringy werewolf facial hair. Bonus #2: “SNL” Digital Short “Firelight” Leave it to the kings of pop culture mockery at “Saturday Night Live” and pop star princess Taylor Swift to create a killer “Twilight” parody. In the 2009 Digital Short “Firelight,” guest host Swift did a spot-on Kristen Stewart impression, complete with repeated lip biting and multiple hair-behind-the-ear moves, all while quoting actual lines from “Twilight.” However, in this case the Edward character is not a vampire, he’s the big, green, clumsy, strangle-happy monster Frankenstein. What “Twilight” moments did we miss? Sound off in the comments below and tweet me at @KaraWarner with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns! Kourtney & Kim Take New York Rekap: Kris Humphries Wants Kids! Like Right Away!

Sunday on Kourtney & Kim Take New York, newlyweds Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries continued to butt heads, while butt head Scott Disick’s risque computer search history ruffled some feathers with baby mama Kourtney. Scripted, contrived nonsense alert! What did Kris say to Kim that really hit klose to home? Why did Kourt decide she needs to spice things up? THG breaks down Sunday evening’s drama, +/- style: Kim kicks off the third episode of the season pretending to contemplate family. “Maybe it’s time to get off the pill and see what happens naturally,” she says, seemingly without irony, seeing as there is nothing original about this girl. Minus 9 . Kourtney thinks it’d be Mason to have a playmate. Of course, she knows Kim will never really oblige so she went and got pregnant again herself. Proactive. Plus 17 . Kris: “We can have our own cuter version of Mason.” Unlikely. He’s a doll! Plus 6 . Momager Kris Jenner of all people makes the valid point that they shouldn’t even think about this because don’t even know where they’re going to live. Plus 8 . Speaking of which: Kris really wants to settle in Minnesota, to which Kim replies, “How am I going to have my career and live in Minnesota?” Minus 25 for Kim being so shallow … and Kris actually thinking this might happen in his lifetime. Humphries’ rationale on that front: “By the time you have kids and they’re in school, no one will probably care about you, let’s be honest.” LOLOLOL. Plus 270 . Kris also made this point in the season premiere . Does he not realize that with Kim, this is like telling a girl she’s fat or old? Either way, Plus 20 for going there. Undeterred, Kris wants to have kids like right this minute. The bathtub did feature Kim Kardashian nude at this time, which likely had something to do with this reproductive urges … and his decision to marry her in the first place. Still, bad call. Minus 2 . Kim doesn’t want kids right away, after all. Shocker! Minus 60 . She doesn’t want to tell Kris, either, because it will hurt his ego. Telling E! cameras, then filing for divorce after two months? That’s all good, though! Minus 300 . On the other side of the apartment the network forces them to live in together even though they’re all rich, Kourt “finds” porn on Scott’s computer. Minus 28 . “It’s a very high-in-demand porn site,” Scott says of the unnamed URL that features two guys tagging one girl at the time. “Everyone watches porn!” Plus only 10 , because while sort of true, not everyone lets E! film it and/or gets caught. Minus 6 for not watching the Kim-Ray J sex tape. That would’ve been choice. “Maybe things have cooled down,” Kourt admits. Eh, it is Scott Disick. Hard to imagine anyone could be hot for that douche for long. Time to break up! Plus 7 . Oops. Forgot about Mason. Too late now! Minus 15 . Scott and Kris totally bond over how the hell they got sucked into this insane family and unending reality show. Disick is obviously better able to cope. Plus 3 . Kourtney decides to let loose and fun, which entails pretending to flirt with a random girl in an attempt to spice things up, which annoys Scott, who clearly had other things in mind when he suggested a threesome, and viewers, who have to watch made-up nonsense for half the episode when all we really want to see is Kim and Kris implode. Minus 80 . EPISODE TOTAL: -196 . SEASON TOTAL: -406.

Lindsay Lohan Tweaks Over Stolen Purse

Lindsay Lohan can’t go one week without stirring up controversy. Granted, it’s not her fault – probably – that some jackass stole her purse in Hawaii over the weekend, but if she weren’t on probation, it wouldn’t have been as big a deal. She was terrified the ordeal would land her in jail, in the event that she couldn’t get back on a plane and make a hearing this week. Girl was freaking out about it: Moments after Lindsay Lohan discovered her bag was missing, she exploded, “I will f**king kill someone if I even have to get questioned [inaudible] jail for a year.” Hilariously, the troubled star actually claimed this happened once before, when she missed a court date after being “stuck” in Cannes. But it’s a moot point now. Her passport and the needed court documents permitting travel were eventually returned by a good Samaritan, along with Lindsay’s $5,000 Chanel purse. Phew! However, she lost $10,000 cash. Who carries around 10 GRAND?! Planning on buying guns and weed with no paper trail? Who does she think she is, Soulja Boy ? Side Note #1: On the recording above (obtained by TMZ; the origin is not known), she says, “My dad will kill me.” Who knew she even remembered MiLo existed! Site Note #2: The Lindsay Lohan Playboy pictures leaked last week.

Race Matters: Soledad O’Brien To Host New CNN Special On Black Techies “The New Promised Land: Silicon Valley”

CNN’s Soledad O’Brien investigates how African-American entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley struggle with racial bias, financial security, . While much of the country struggles to emerge from a recession, California’s Silicon Valley is booming, and technology companies like Facebook, Skype, and Apple are seeing their valuations soar. CNN anchor and special correspondent Soledad O’Brien reports that the ownership of this digital bloom is mostly young, white, and male. For her fourth Black in America documentary, O’Brien asks why, according to industry analyst CB Insights, less than one percent of all venture capital money went to digital startups with African-American founders in 2010 – and she profiles a unique, technology-focused “accelerator” developed to help African-American digital entrepreneurs secure funding to establish their businesses. Black in America: The New Promised Land – Silicon Valley will debut on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 8:00p.m. ET & PT and replay on Nov. 13 at 11:00p.m. ET & PT. It will also replay on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 8:00p.m. and 11:00p.m. ET & PT on CNN/U.S. The NewMe accelerator program, founded by friends Angela Benton and Wayne Sutton, is a collaborative of African-American start-up founders with Internet-based businesses – the first such business accelerator of its kind. NewMe’s ultimate mission is to diversify the technology industry by accelerating the participants’ business ventures. Participants seek venture capital investment and are mentored by prominent people from within the industry. O’Brien follows the progress of the eight former strangers after they were selected to live together for nine weeks in a modest, three-bedroom house in Mountain View, CA, from June to August of 2011. The entrepreneurs were provided with free office space and attended regular networking events hosted by NewMe’s sponsors. The participants come from varied backgrounds and experiences. It’s kinda like “The Real World”, “The Ultimate Hustler”, and “African-America’s Next Top Techie” all in one show. Should be interesting… Source
