The City Recap: Whitney Port, Roxy Olin Break Up

Last week on The City, Whitney Port and Roxy Olin’s professional relationship took a turn for the worse. Now the latter is packing her things and moving out! Her tenure at work a disaster-in-waiting from the start, Roxy leaving was inevitable. Now she’s searching for a new apartment but NYC rent isn’t that cheap. Here’s THG’s plus-minus recap … Roxy’s financial woes force her to ask her director/actor father, Ken Olin, for help. It’s difficult not to see Ken as the guy from Brothers & Sisters … Minus 5 . Erin Kaplan runs into Whitney Port and asks to use her Whitney Eve line for an Elle shoot with Ashley Greene. Eclipse and The City , together at last! Plus 6 . MOVING OUT : Whether Roxy Olin is moving up is another story. Olivia Palermo is resistive towards the Whitney Eve pieces, shockingly, despite Joe’s insistence that they use them. Minus 4 , because we just hate her so hard. Roxy Olin refuses to speak to Whitney at People’s Revolution. Plus 3 for the palpable awkwardness and Kelly stepping in, telling them to put it aside … STAT. The tension boils over in the front row of a charity fashion show, however, and Kelly is forced to intervene when the girls’ fight starts to cause a scene. Minus 7 . Whitney finds out from Samantha that Roxy started looking for a place. Minus 6 for the off-chance this clears the way for Stephanie Pratt to join the cast. ASHLEY IN WHITNEY EVE : Greene helped Port beat expectations . Ashley Greene wears a jacket by Whitney Eve during her interview for Elle. Plus 5 . Olivia interviews her but sidesteps asking about the jacket. You b!tch. Minus 5 . Olivia tells Joe she’s planning a trip to Japan and asks if she can produce pieces from there for Elle . Plus 7 for the slim chance she gets stranded there indefinitely. Plus 4 more ’cause Naturally, Seth and Erin are excited about Olivia’s trip if it means her absence might become permanent. We’re all thinking it, they just said it. Ken shoots down Roxy’s request for money. Plus 8 . Whitney comes home to find Roxy packed and ready to move out of their apartment. It’s a little sad. Minus 2 . TOTAL: +8. SEASON: -4 .

‘Inception’: The Early Reviews Are In!

‘Leonardo DiCaprio finds the tortured center of his character,’ one reviewer writes. By Eric Ditzian Leonardo DiCaprio in “Inception” Photo: Warner Bros. Almost one year ago, the teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” hit the web. It featured acrobatic fight sequences, hallucinatory imagery, and left us with far more questions than answers. Just what the heck was this movie really about, anyway? In the months that followed, Nolan slowly peeled back the curtain to reveal peeks at his top-secret follow-up to 2008’s “The Dark Knight.” Now, with the movie’s July 16 release date approaching, “Inception” has been fully unveiled to industry insiders, and the first reviews are beginning to pop up online. Here’s what folks are saying about the flick. The Story “Leonardo DiCaprio plays Cobb, an expert in what the film calls extraction, the theft of secrets or information from the subconscious mind,” Todd Gilchrist wrote in Cinematical.com . After botching a job thanks to the intrusion of his wife Mal (Marion Cotillard), Cobb finds an unlikely opportunity for redemption from one of his former victims: Saito (Ken Watanabe), CEO of a flourishing multinational, offers him amnesty in exchange for planting an idea — known as inception — within the mind of Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy), one of Saito’s competitors. Enlisting the help of teammates Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Ariadne (Ellen Page), Eames (Tom Hardy), and Yusuf (Dileep Rao), Cobb reluctantly agrees to the mission, only to discover that the mind’s defenses are more formidable than any physical threat he could face. Heist-movie plot details notwithstanding, the above description scarcely scratches at the surface of what’s in the film, and certainly reveals nothing of the deeper conceptual and thematic dimensions of its story.” The Look “Shot across four continents by Nolan’s regular d.p., Wally Pfister, and outfitted by production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas, ‘Inception’ is easily the director’s most visually unbridled work,” Justin Chang wrote in Variety. “Its canvas stretches from the skyscrapers of Tokyo to the bazaars of Tangiers, from an amber-lit hotel corridor to a snowy mountain compound (a setpiece that plays like an homage to ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’). Pic has arresting effects and images to spare, such as the sight of Paris folding in on itself like a book or Gordon-Levitt’s Arthur performing a fight scene in zero gravity (the explanation for which is even more dazzling).” The Performances “DiCaprio finds the tortured center of his character, a man who is part thief and part spy and whose own guilt-ridden subconscious stands to destroy his chances of succeeding at the proverbial one last job,” Jim Vejvoda wrote in IGN.com . ” ‘Inception’ is sort of a companion piece in a way to ‘Shutter Island,’ the year’s other mind-bender DiCaprio thriller. Gordon-Levitt — who, like DiCaprio, was a child sitcom actor — continues to prove he’s one of the brightest up-and-coming dramatic actors with his turn here. And although she has less screen time than the rest of the cast, Cotillard shines as the film’s closest thing to a femme fatale.” The “Matrix” Comparison “[T]here’s a sort of ‘Matrix’ action movie vibe about the [marketing] campaign, and despite some wild visual moments in the film, I wouldn’t describe this as an action film at all,” Drew McWeeny wrote in HitFix.com . “There are action beats in it, but all of them are ultimately in service of the emotional journey that Dom takes in the film, and as a result, the stakes seem so much higher than they would if it was just another movie where people were chasing around some empty Macguffin. Everything in this film … cities folding in on themselves, buildings filling with sudden floods of water, gravity that stops working, reality fraying at the edges … ties back in to whatever happened between Dom and his wife Mal years ago.” The Bottom Line “Following up on such ingenious and intriguing films as ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘Memento,’ Nolan has outdone himself,” Kirk Honeycutt wrote in The Hollywood Reporter. ” ‘Inception’ puts him not only at the top of the heap of sci-fi all-stars, but it also should put this Warner Bros. release near or at the top of the summer movies. It’s very hard to see how a film that plays so winningly to so many demographics would not be a worldwide hit.” Are you excited to see “Inception”? Sound off in the comments below! Dr Riki Ott on dispersants & what BP is hiding

“We know from Exxon Valdez that giving people hardhats instead of respirators is a very bad idea” – Riki Ott See Also: BP using dispersants to hide size of spill, and their financial liability http://current.com/news/92526824_use-of-dispersants-questioned-allegations-that-… What Mainstream Media is Not Telling You about the Gulf Oil Cleanup (NaturalNews) What surface oil dispersant for oil spills is so toxic and ineffective it has been banned in England for a decade? The one that British Petroleum (BP) is using now in the Gulf of Mexico. It's loaded with 2-butoxyethanol, which kills marine and wetland wild life while causing serious lung problems to humans! It is more toxic than the oil it purports to clean, and it simply sends the newly formed toxic globules of dispersant and oil further into the depths where it forms underwater plumes. It's like pouring paint thinner on spilled paint and letting it drip out onto the lawn and garden, except the underwater plumes of thinned oil and toxic dispersant spread onto the shore lines, wetlands and coral reefs and into the Atlantic via the Gulf Stream and beyond. Yet there are many less toxic, even 100% green, oil spill solutions available that are more effective. EPA and BP It was initially reported that the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) had given BP 72 hours to change the current oil dispersant chemicals to something less toxic and more effective. After a sharp reply from BP, the EPA seems to have back pedaled claiming they only want BP to use less of it. It appears somebody with clout stepped in for BP! BP is involved with a few other large international corporations. Among them is the company that makes the toxic oil dispersant banned in England containing 2-butoxyethanol, which kills what is supposedly being protected! Richard Charter, advisor for Defenders of Wildlife, says this about the chemical dispersant being used in the Gulf: “It's a chemical that the oil industry makes to sell to itself, basically.” So in addition to siphoning some of the oil pouring from the ocean floor into tankers, oil that can be separated from the water and sold later, BP execs are enjoying financially incestuous gains. (source below) Ignored Solutions… (cont http://www.naturalnews.com/029127_Gulf_Coast_cleanup.html ) ~~~ EPA just released it's first set of findings on Corexit, here is one response: “Mobile Baykeeper Executive Director Casi Callaway said Thursday she is “disappointed” with the EPA’s methods. She pointed out, “They did the minimal testing of a limited substance. They didn’t do the test of oil and dispersants mixed with water, and they only tested shrimp and small fish. They didn’t do any field testing. They only tested in a lab.” Callaway said dispersants should not be used in the first place because oil is suspended in the water column, which not only endangers marine creatures, but also makes defense systems such as floating booms ineffective. The products do seem to bolster BP’s public image, however, according to Callaway. “The purpose is to hide it. They think if (the oil) is out of sight, people will forget about it and the problem will go away,” she said. The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) is somewhat complicit by making its testing data difficult to obtain, she added. http://networkedblogs.com/5sBK9 ~~~ “Corexit a know poison” The BP disaster is far worse than we are being allowed to know via mainstream news: The toxic dispersant Corexit is gasifying getting into the atmosphere to return as rain, thus and affecting people, crops, far inland. Corexit is manufactured by a company making huge profits for many admin and other bigwigs, including Warren Buffet, Al Gore, & George Soros – a listing which makes me automatically suspect that this piece may be NeoCon finger-pointing – a side-effect which would unfortunately detract from the main news here regarding the degree of disaster that’s coming. Could it be there’s actually a $$$ reason for NOT stopping the leak? It would explain why neither Sen. Cantwell or Sen. Murray called me back after I left messages with their office staffers that I had a pretty good idea for dealing with the spill – I’ve heard nada despite 3 calls to each. Anyway, the following article with extensive details and links will bring you up to speed on a major disaster and perhaps the most hideous crimes. http://ow.ly/26Tih http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS66fomgWFI&feature=youtu.be added by: samantha420

Maine “Michael Nifong on steroids”

Maine: Supreme Court Hears Case on Out-of-Control DV Prosecutor Tuesday, June 15, 2010 By Abusegate Bob This is an update on a case currently being argued in front of the Maine Supreme Court about an out-of-control prosecutor named Mary Kellet, who has wrongfully charged and prosecuted many innocent men in Maine… The Maine Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments in the State of Maine vs. Vladek Filler. National Director of the Domestic Abuse Helpline Jan Brown attended the hearing as did some others. The “Michael Nifong on steroids” Mary Kellett has prosecuted countless innocent men on trumped up charges and false evidence. When it becomes easy for a prosecutor to lie to judges and juries with impunity, it is also easy for them to lie to the Supreme Court. Mary Kellett mislead the Supreme Court about her misconduct and the trial record. When the trial court found Mary Kellett guilty of prosecutorial misconduct against Vladek Filler she continued to abuse her power as the representative of the State of Maine. She filed an appeal of her prosecutorial misconduct, then wrote the appeal herself, and then argued it herself before Maine Supreme Court. It is equivalent to a corrupt police officer investigating himself then writing a report finding the victims at fault. The prosecutor brazenly lied to the Supreme Court about her misconduct and explicit court order violations at trial, pointed the finger at the defense attorney, and argued for Vladek Filler to be denied acquittal or even a new trial. One Justice asked Mary Kellett whether she considered a custody battle for the children important in a case where the wife is alleging spousal rape against the husband. Mary Kellett responded that it is the defense who should be concerned with the importance of child custody battle evidence. The admission of the State’s unconstitutional “burden shifting” is stunning. The State of Maine has admitted that it is less concerned with evidence ulterior motives and false allegations, and relies on defense to seek the truth and be concerned with such evidence. Vladek Filler’s attorney argued the systematic and flagrant prosecutorial misconduct committed by Mary Kellett and the insufficiency of evidence to support Vladek Filler’s conviction or even for bringing charges against him. That in fact, the evidence showed this prosecutor brought numerous charges of rape against a man where the accuser herself made admissions that it was consensual. This highly politicized appeal is pending in the Maine Supreme Court. Not a single media outlet in Maine has covered the State’s appeal or the systematic prosecutorial abuse of innocent men in the Bar Harbor region. The prosecutorial and civil rights crimes against Vladek Filler and men like him must be exposed. For more information, see: www.fillerfund.com added by: choice

The Secret Of Oz

It is commonly known in economics academia that The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum in 1900 is loaded with powerful symbols of monetary reform which were the core of the Populist movement and the 1896 and 1900 presidental bids of Populist Democrat William Jennings Bryan. The yellow brick road (gold standard), the Scarecrow (farmers), the Tin Man (industrial workers), the Wicked Witch of the West (Cleveland banker J.D. Rockefeller) and the Wicked Witch of the East (NY banker J.P.Morgan), the Emerald City of Oz (greenback money), the illusory power of the Wizard in the capitol city (who monopolized power through deceit), even Dorothy’s silver slippers (changed to ruby slippers for the color movie version -symbols of Baum’s and Bryan’s belief that adding silver coin to gold coin would provide much needed money to a depression-strapped, 1890s America). Oz is a virtual forest of monetary reform symbolism, done by someone extremely well versed in the Populist monetary reform goals of the period (Baum was a newspaperman and author) – goals which have never changed – they are still valid today, they are needed now more than then. Oz author L. Frank Baum’s symbols represent the solution to relieve the growing economic hardship here in America and the rest of the world. 2009 marks the 70th anniversary of the 1939 MGM release of the The Wizard of Oz movie which has impressed audiences for all those years, imprinting Baum’s cryptic monetary reform symbols on the minds of millions. Money Masters authors Pat Carmack and Bill Still came to the conclusion in late 2008 that now is the time to explain their meaning to the public in a video – the symbols are well known, their meaning is not, yet they hold the key to solving our economic crisis. The familiarity of the Oz symbols to the public makes their explanation a potentially powerful weapon against our modern witches and wizards. So Money Masters Director Bill Still hit the road once again, interviewed experts familiar with the Oz symbolism, and the result is the fascinating new video Secret of Oz. http://www.secretofoz.com/ added by: rodstradamus

Michael Steele: Mentally Deficient

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele has segregated himself from any and all party’s once again. Michale Steele seems to have either forgotten that there was a President before Obama, or that Bush was never President. Steele was caught on video spewing republicanism’s, saying that Afghanistan is “a war of Obama’s choosing”; I didn’t know Obama had the power to send troops while being on the Illinois senate. Steele is also quoted saying “If he’s such a student of history,” Steele said, referring to President Obama, “has he not understood that, you know, that’s the one thing you don’t do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan? Everyone who has tried, over 1,000 years of history, has failed.” I again am astonished that this man is ignoring the fact that, Republican former President George W. Bush invaded Afghanistan in 2001 after September 11( I had to explain this just in-case there are more people who forget the past like Steele). Now the Democrats are jumping all over his words as they should, but shockingly even very prominent conservatives are demanding his immediate resignation. William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard, called Steele’s remarks “an affront, both to the honor of the Republican Party and to the commitment of the soldiers fighting to accomplish the mission they’ve been asked to take on by our elected leaders.” Fellow conservative Erick Erickson had this to say, Steele had “lost all moral authority to lead the GOP.” Steele is now in full damage control, coming out re-explaining his statements. If you have to re-explain your political standings and true beliefs then your just trying to save face. A party spokesman said that Steele’s comments were in the context of speaking to future candidates and questions on the campaign trail. Steele however separated himself even further from his comments by saying this, Steele called winning the war in Afghanistan “a difficult task,” but “a necessary one.” While also backing it up with this statement, “The stakes are too high for us to accept anything but success in Afghanistan.” The Director of the RNC has been saying that Steele’s job is intact and that Democrats are misinterpreting his statements. This is just yet another example of the Republican foot in mouth that seems to be running rampant lately. While most Republicans surly believe what Steele has said, they cannot get elected by saying what they truly believe. Of course Republicans are going to back away from him, because they want to get elected off of the less conservative ideals they preach, and once in office force the more extreme views on the public.
