Miramax Not Actually Purchased Just Yet

Uh-oh. According to Variety , Disney’s hopeful — and thought to be written in ink — sale of Miramax has hit a major pothole. Apparently Morgan Creek founder James Robinson and philanthropist Jerome Swartz have back out of their “financial agreements,” leaving the deal short of capital. Disney has yet to comment, possibly because they’re too busy trying to get the Weinsteins back on the phone. [ Variety ]

Fuzzy Movieline Math: How Many People Will Watch the Emmys on Sunday?

Only a shade more than 13 million people tuned in to watch the Emmy Awards on CBS last year… and it was considered a moderate success because of its competition (a Giants/Cowboys NFL game), calendar placement (September 20) and the prior year’s record low numbers. On Sunday, the battle for eyeballs will be slightly less uphill, but Jimmy Fallon and Co. still have their work cut out for them . Just how many of the Nielsen estimated 294-plus million American TV watchers will tune in though? Click ahead as Movieline attempts to sort it all out.

Sorcerer’s Apprentice Stumbles Out of Gate

Early estimates for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice ‘s opening day are in, and they could most charitably be called “alarming”: The Nicolas Cage fantasy drew $3.7 million on 3,385 screens in the U.S. and Canada, setting some five-day projections below $30 million. That would result in the second straight Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer underperformer after Prince of Persia . Clearly it needed a better iPhone app . [ Deadline ]

EXCLUSIVE: Pixar Developing Cars Spinoff Planes

Cars may not have been Pixar’s biggest moneymaker when it was released in theaters, but the franchise has been a monster hit when it comes to merchandise, raking in several billion dollars in a relatively under-the-radar fashion. Next summer’s release of Cars 2 should boost that figure even further, but then again, kids may be in no rush to replace the Lightning McQueen plush toy they already bought back in 2006. How do you refresh the brand? With planes, of course.

Selena Gomez: Leaving Wizards of Waverly Place

Selena Gomez is making like Miley Cyrus. No, the teenager isn’t ditching pants or putting out a failed album . But Selena is leaving the TV show that made her famous, announcing this week her plans to exit Wizards of Waverly Place when its fourth season concludes. “Unfortunately, I’m doing my last season of my show, which I’m really heartbroken about. That’s gonna be a terrible time for me,” the 17-year old told MTV. Gomez has played Alex Russo on the Disney Channel series since its pilot episode. However, just because Gomez is walking away from the small screen doesn’t mean she’s leaving the role of Alex forever. “I’m gonna do a movie for my show, which I’ll be excited to end it with, and then a tour,” she said. Selena has made news recently for her life away from the set. She briefly dated Nick Jonas, only to break up with him in April. That’s right, teenage male readers: this pretty star is available!

Joe Jonas, Demi Lovato Duet Leaks Online

‘Camp Rock 2’ track ‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing’ is about opposites trying to make their relationship work. By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/ WireImage In less than a month the “Camp Rock 2” soundtrack will be released, but fans are already getting a taste of what they can expect from it. In a new track leaked online, “Wouldn’t Change a Thing,” Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas sing about two people who, despite being opposites, try to make their relationship work, even if it feels at times like it won’t. In the chorus, the duo sing , “Like fire and rain/ You can drive me insane/ But I can’t stay mad at you for anything/ We’re like Venus and Mars/ We’re like different stars.” Later on in the song they sing, “We’re perfectly imperfect/ But I wouldn’t change a thing.” In an interview on Radio Disney earlier this year, Demi said, “[‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing’] is close to my heart. It’s probably one of my favorite parts of the movie.” “Camp Rock 2” will premiere on September 3 on the Disney Channel. The soundtrack, which features the new song, will be out on August 10. While some dates on their upcoming tour have been rescheduled, with the “Camp Rock 2” tour now kicking off August 7 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois, the pair will hit the road this summer for the rest of the Jonas Brothers’ headlining trek. And despite the fact that Joe and Demi broke up in May, Lovato insists she will hold her own with the guys. “I always hold my own, get it straight!” she joked. “I’m just kidding! It’ll be fun. I’m excited. I’m representing.” And while “Wouldn’t Change a Thing” may make the set list, the guys say fans should brace themselves for a full-on JoBros tour. “It’s a Jonas Brothers tour, as usual. We just thought it’d be great to integrate [other] musical outlets as well,” Kevin said. “We thought it was a great way for our opening acts to have a place in the show as well. It’s gonna be fun, ’cause we know everybody. We’ve been doing a movie together for a while.” What do you think of Joe and Demi’s new tune? Does it make you excited for “Camp Rock 2”?
