In an interview with Jet magazine, the legendary songstress, who is reportedly battling cancer and underwent surgery in December , declined to disclose her specific ailment but maintained that her health drama has subsided. “I am not going to even deal with that,” she said in response to reports that she is battling cancer. “I don’t have to talk about my health with anybody other than my doctors. The problem has been resolved.” The “Respect” singer explained that her unwillingness to reveal her mystery illness stems from a preference to preserve her privacy. “I am not one to do a lot of talking about my personal health or business. Not too much, not too much,” she said. “There are a lot of people who will talk about anything, as long as there is somebody listening. But I am not one of those people. That’s not Aretha.” While she chooses to remain protective of her health issues, the Queen of Soul did reveal how she discovered something was wrong, recalling “a very hard pain in my side” during a performance in Toronto last year that led her to check in with her doctor. “I had a colonoscopy and it showed nothing was wrong. I associated the pain in my side with the colonoscopy that I had within a day or two before. I got up at 2 o’clock in the morning and called the doctor who did the colonoscopy and told him what was happening. He said, ‘Miss Franklin, whatever it is, it is not from the colonoscopy. You need to come home and have a CAT-scan.’ Thank God he said that, because that unfolded everything, what the problem was and everything,” she said. After a four year investigation that caused him to resign two weeks before his seven year term was over, former Israeli president Moshe Katsav has officially been found guilty of rape. Former Israel President Moshe Katsav was convicted Thursday of raping an employee when he was a Cabinet minister, the most serious criminal charges ever brought against a high-ranking official and a case that stunned the nation. Katsav, 65, faces a minimum of four years in prison on two counts of raping one of his employees in 1998 when he was Israel’s tourism minister. The Tel Aviv District Court also convicted him on lesser counts of indecent acts and sexual harassment involving two other women who worked for him after he became president in 2000. Katsav has denied the charges. He claimed to be a victim of a political witchhunt, suggesting he was targeted because he comes from Israel’s Sephardic community. Sephardic Jews, of Middle Eastern origin, were for decades an underclass in Israeli society. Katsav was born in Iran and immigrated to Israel as a child. The verdict caps a four-and-a-half year saga that shocked Israelis, both with its lurid details and bizarre twists and turns. Katsav resigned in 2007, two weeks before his seven-year term expired, under a plea bargain that would have required him to admit to lesser charges of sexual misconduct. He was replaced by elder statesman and Nobel peace laureate Shimon Peres. Although the post in Israel is largely ceremonial, the president is head of state, representing the country at ceremonies around the world. But in a dramatic reversal in April 2009, Katsav rejected the deal and said he wanted to clear his name in court. Around that time, he held a news conference in which he lashed out at prosecutors and denied any wrongdoing. His behavior, in which he shook in anger and screamed at reporters in the room, was widely criticized. They just need to let poor MJ rest in peace: Michael Jackson killed himself with a lethal dose of the hospital anaesthesia Propofol, it has been claimed. Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney David Walgren claimed lawyers for Dr Conrad Murray, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter in relation to Jackson’s death, plan to use the theory as the main part of his defense. Walgren’s statement came at a hearing yesterday where a lawyer for Dr Murray clashed with the prosecutor over who should test residue from two syringes found in Jackson’s bedroom. He said: ‘I do think it’s clear the defense is operating under the theory that the victim, Michael Jackson, killed himself. ‘They don’t want to say it but that’s the direction in which they are going.’ Defense attorney J. Michael Flanagan said a huge amount of the anaesthetic Propofol was found in Jackson’s body, but his client has said he gave him only 25 milligrams of the drug. Mr. Walgren suggested the defense will claim Jackson killed himself by injecting more of the drug into himself. It is understood that Dr Murray’s lawyers will claim that the star woke up while his physician was out of the room for two minutes in the toilet and administered a lethal dose of the drug himself. A preliminary hearing in the case begins next Tuesday when Judge Michael Pastor will decide whether the prosecution has a strong enough case to support the unusual charge that Dr Murray was criminally responsible for the king of pop’s death in June 2009. As many as 30 witnesses are expected to be called during the two week hearing. Although the defense won’t be putting its case, it is thought highly likely that the judge will find that the American cardiologist will have to go to trial. Dr. Murray, 52, faces up to four years in prison if he is convicted. Reports in the US have suggested that the doctor’s lawyers will argue that the singer injected Propofol himself using an intravenous drip, causing a massive heart attack. He then supposedly dropped the bottle on the floor. When the doctor came back into the room he tried CPR in a desperate attempt to revive Jackson. An autopsy later showed the heart attack was caused by a fatal dose of Propofol, a drug Jackson used to help with his chronic insomnia. Mr Flanagan said a broken syringe was found on the bedroom floor in addition to a syringe in an intravenous medication bag. He also revealed that a fingerprint found on the broken syringe hasn’t been identified. Source
