A representative for Andrew Gillum spoke out Tuesday against a White supremacist website’s racist robocall referring to the candidate as a “negro” and “monkey.” RELATED: 5 Takeaways From Andrew Gillum’s Masterful Debate Dismantling Of Ron DeSantis “These disgusting, abhorrent robocalls represent a continuation of the ugliest, most divisive campaign in Florida’s history,” Geoff Burgan told The Huffington Post after Gillum’s acclaimed performance during Sunday night’s debate . “We would hope that these calls, and the dangerous people who are behind them, are not given anymore attention than they already have been.” An actor, presumably hired or associated with the Neo-Nazi website The Road To Power, pretended to be Florida’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate during the call. The actor spoke in an exaggerated stereotypical Black southern voice over music from the minstrel era and “Amos ‘n’ Andy,” a TV sitcom that perpetuated several racist tropes about Black people in the 1950s. The person is heard saying, “Well hello there. I is the Negro Andrew Gillum, and I be asking you to make me governor of this here state of Florida.” A screeching monkey sound is also heard on the horrific robocall, which circulated on Tuesday. The robocall refers to Andrew Gillum as a “negro” and a “monkey.” https://t.co/T1Opyvc1nw — NBCBLK (@NBCBLK) October 23, 2018 The ad veers into more terrible territory when the actor describes Gillum’s health care plan as “quite cheap” because “he’ll just give chicken feet to people as medicine.” The call also mentions that Jewish voters will support Gillum because Jews are “the ones that been putting Negroes in charge over the white folk, just like they done after the Civil War.” After the call ends, a disclaimer points out that The Road To Power website and podcast’s name is responsible for the ad. The Idaho-based group has a history of making racist robocalls, including those previously made against Gillum in August as well as in several other states such as Oregon and Virginia. As to whether Ron DeSantis has anything to do with the racist robocall, his camp fiercely denied any connection and denounced the ad in a statement. DeSantis, however, had blown a racist dog whistle with his comment advising Florida voters not to “ monkey up ” the election by voting for Gillum. Community members called out the unidentified man for his “disgusting display of racism,” demanded an apology and asked officials to enforce a zero-tolerance anti-racism policy. Minstrelsy, which emerged in the 1830s, was done by white performers who used Black shoe polish or burnt cork to paint their faces black. They wore tattered clothes to represent African-American slaves, portraying them as “lazy, ignorant and hypersexualized.” They mocked Blacks for entertainment’s sake, and their antagonism was based on a still-existing feeling of superiority over African-Americans. Kelly and other people purportedly uneducated about Blackface should know its history and racist roots. 90 Day Fiance had its Season 6 premiere, and the drama is already heating up. Though fans have already met the Season 6 couples , we learned a lot more on the premiere. Including which fiancee arrived in the US and almost immediately found another woman’s underwear in her fiance’s home. Let’s start with Jonathan and Fernanda. These two are both adults, but their 12-year age difference is raising some eyebrows, especially since Fernanda is 19. As we saw on the 90 Day Fiance premiere, it’s not just fans who are thinking about how these two are in different stages of their lives. Jonathan’s status as a bachelor in is 30s is clearly making Fernanda a little insecure. Her finding a pair of panties in his apartment on her first day didn’t help matters. They belonged to his ex, which he tried to explain, but it was not a good start for these two. Kalani and Asuelu are one of those couples that you find yourself really rooting for. They both seem sweet and neither appear to be monsters. Also, the way that Kalani talks to the camera is charming. Fans may like these two, but Kalani’s family is not on board. it turns out that her devoutly Mormon family is not happy that she lost he virginity to and had a baby with a man who is not yet her husband. “My family was not supportive of me being with Asuelu,” Kalani revealed. “They thought he was just taking advantage of me.” She revealed that her father, who is Samoan himself, had hoped that she would end up with a very different man. There are deeper issues at play, here. Ashley and Jay are another couple with an age gap, but that’s taking a back seat. Because Jay’s horndog personality is not subtle. He isn’t shy about telling the camera about how much he loves sex. Ashley’s loved ones are worried that he cheated on her while they were in a long distance relationship. “Maybe I don’t care what Jay does when I’m not over there,” Ashley claims. She asked Colt to go ahead and book the next one, but he wanted to wait to book a flght after her visa issues were worked out. Larissa didn’t understand that, and it soon became clear that she assumes that, as an American, he is wealthier than he is. “She’s in for an extremely rude awakening,” Colt admits. And this is all before she’s met this momma’s boy’s mother — or their many cats. Eric and Leida are really flipping the script. Though Eric is an older American and Leida is younger, she enjoyed a life of privilege in Indonesia. Eric, though a 40-year-old veteran, seems to be making just enough to get by. In fact, as we learned on the premiere, he had been splitting rent with his 19-year-old daughter. To prepare for the arrival of Leida and her 5-year-old son, he asked his daughter to move out, which obviously created some friction. He and Leida both expressed some anxieties about making this work. Despite their misgivings, smart money says that Eric and Leida are likely to make it to the altar if she’s already come this far. It was only days ago that Bethenny Frankel confessed to accidentally texting her late boyfriend . Sometimes, letting go of a lost loved one is impossible. Fortunately, it looks like Bethenny is finally managing to move on — with a new man in her life. But who is her new man, Paul Bernon? TMZ reports that Bethenny Frankel was recently spotted holding hands with what was initially a mystery man. Bethenny was spending time in Boston, and she was spotted holding hands with and then kissing a taller gentleman by the name of Paul Bernon. TMZ noted that their PDA included a makeout session near Boston College, which sounds like as good a place as any. (If you’re determined to kiss while in public, that is) It is, of course, wonderful to see Bethenny moving on with her life after this summer’s heartbreak. But … who is this dude? Paul Bernon is a businessman and film guru. He has two degrees. Paul obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Studies at the very same Boston University where he (almot) was for his PDA with Bethenny. He earned his Masters degree in Real Estate at New York University. Needless to say, those are two very different fields of study. Paul is a cofounder and partner in a Los Angeles.-based film finance and production company, Burn Later. His films include Drinking Buddies , whch starred Olivia Wilde and Anna Kendrick. Another film, Best Kept Secret , earned him a Peabody Award. Many people know of Paul as a filmmaker and aren’t even aware of his other ventures. But when we say that he’s a businessman, we’re not kidding. It is reported that Paul obtained his first shopping center by the age of 24. He is currently a managing partner for Rubicon Real Estate, LLC. Rubicon Real Estate owns and manages various investment properties in New England, Texas, and Utah. Speaking of New England, he resides within the greater Boston area. It seems likely that Bethenny may have been in town especially to see him. Paul is active politically, and is a member of the National Finance Committee of the Democratic National Committee. What’s more exciting is that he is a board member as well as a co-founder of the Creative Council at EMILY’s List. (EMILY’s List is a wonderful political organization and it’s especially encouraging that he lends his efforts to a pro-women group) Us Weekly reports that Paul shares two children with his ex-wife. Paul and Ashley Bernon divorced in September of 2017. It looks like Bethenny isn’t the only one in the relationship who might be said to be “moving on.” It is wonderful to hear that Bethenny is taking this careful next step in her life, two months after such a tragic loss. Perhaps she has found closure in the death of her late on-again, off-again boyfriend, Dennis Shields. Even though his death was officially ruled inconclusive , his loved ones seem to have accepted that this was a tragic drug-related death, whether an overdose or interaction. Now, they are all healing in their own ways. That Bethenny is dating again is not a sign that she loved him any less. Finding new joy is what any good person would want for their loved ones.
