Be Clear: Meghan Markle Has No Time For Y’all President

Source: Max Mumby/Indigo / Getty The Duchess of Sussex has no time for y’all President during his upcoming London trip. According to CBS News , while Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, plan to meet the Royal Family in June, Meghan Markle has decided not to attend any of the festivities. The Royal Family recently announced the details of the trip in a press statement. “The President of the United States, President Donald Trump, accompanied by Mrs. Melania Trump, has accepted an invitation from Her Majesty The Queen to pay a state visit to the United Kingdom,” it reads. Apparently, the visit will last for three days and will include one event which will consist of a private palace lunch and tea with Prince William ,  Kate Middleton ,  Prince Harry  and the Trumps, CBS noted. Once again, Markle cannot and will not be bothered. Granted, she recently gave birth and probably would rather spend time with baby Archie, but she’s also no Trump fan. In a 2016 interview with Comedy Central’s Larry Wilmore , the former Suits actress called then-presidential candidate Trump “divisive.” “Trump is divisive, think about female voters alone, right? I think it was in 2012, the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points; that is a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is, and so vocal about it…Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting,” she said. Listen…we don’t blame her. Girl, stay at home with your baby and live your best life. RELATED NEWS: Meghan Markle Gives Birth To Baby Boy! CASSIUS Chats: Blair Underwood Believes There Is Hope For Us Yet

See the article here:

Source: Paul Morigi / Getty W e now know what happened in the park that night in April 1989. A gruesome crime. The police and city roaring with anger. They rounded up all the Black and brown youths in the park they could find. They forced them to talk, despite all evidence to the contrary, about a grizzly happening they hadn’t committed. Their names are Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Yusuf Salaam, and Korey Wise. They had a lawyer named Robert Burns, who — in director, writer, and documentarian Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us — is played by the always neatly spooled Blair Underwood. History, ours and America’s, is as alive as we are. History walks with us. It speaks to us as we wonder how events in the present have come to be. It aligns us: through memory, through DNA, through culture. It weds itself to our perceptions. It twists evidence, where damp grass only so wide now finds itself a cesspool big enough for five bodies instead of one. The Central Park Five is a part of that history. They are children of that history. They bear the scars of American selfishness, its intolerance, its admittedly complex sense of grandeur and its self. New York City has an outsized presence in that self. In that way, it embodies the worst of America’s campaign to turn Black people into its shadow. The Central Park Five have a Sarah and Ken Burns documentary in their shadow. But Ava DuVernay has unearthed this story to tell it differently—for Netflix, of course, because for who else? And for love, because for what else? When They See Us , then, is as dramatic as American history. Somehow, as the title suggests, Black people are without form until, suddenly, they come into view trying to survive through roiling waters in New Orleans or hanging large through New York City’s monumental patch of green. Then, before your eyes, children become hardened criminals. Humans aching to survive become pariahs. To help bring this harrowing tale to life, Blair Underwood had to embody the role of a man who was in way over his head and ill at the time of the trial. Salaam didn’t know this at the time, but his lawyer was on medication, which would explain why he’d nod off during the trial at times. Why he’d ramble at points. Bobby Burns would die soon after the trial ended. He was more Salaam’s family friend than a crack-pot attorney, but in trying times all Salaam’s mother knew was to try. CASSIUS: What did you know about the five before you were cast? Blair Underwood: I knew the broad strokes of the case. I knew a white, female jogger had been brutally assaulted, beaten, and raped. I knew that five young Black and brown boys –– four African-American, one Latino, were accused of it. And I knew there was a rush to judgment. I knew that days later Donald Trump had taken a number of full-page ads out calling for the death penalty of these young boys–– literally within days. Before any trial. Before any facts came out. Before any notion of due process. Those were broad strokes that I knew. So when I came to the project, I had an opportunity to do a deep dive into the attorney for Yusuf Salaam (Bobby Burns), to really learn about the specificity of the case and the lack of evidence. [To learn about] the complexity of having videotaped confessions coerced and also being falsely accused and eventually being exonerated. But what these four one-hour films bring is the opportunity to dig deep and delve into their personal lives. [It] makes you feel the injustice, even more, this miscarriage of justice even more. C: Why do you think this case was such a large datapoint in New York City and American history? BU: First you had a brutal crime. And brutal crimes happen all the time, but you had the brutal crime of a white woman. So, you inject and have the confluence of race because you have five Black and brown boys. That’s what you have to remember. They were boys. They were children. They were 14, 15, 16-years-old. They were accused of doing this crime. And this was in the midst of many crimes around Central Park. So this did not happen in a vacuum. People were afraid. People were scared. And somebody did that crime, we found out later because a guy who was a serial rapist around uptown manhattan confessed to it. And then again you have a high profile real-estate magnate like Donald Trump at the time calling for the death of children. That’s what he was calling for. To bring back the death penalty with no facts on hand of who did it. And we have to remember there were a crime and an injustice. And the meaning of justice is to have a balance of right and wrong, good and bad, and the understanding of that and the administering of justice. That’s why I love the title of this film When They See Us. The inference is When They See Us , not always, but too often people fear when they see men of color. But the double entendre is When They See Us in the film they can see us for who we really are. You got me preachin’ this morning, brother! [Laughs] C: As someone with children, did you have to bury the anger that comes with seeing children put in harm’s way or did you use it for the role? BU: I don’t think you bury it. I don’t think you bury any of those emotions. In fact, our jobs as actors, our jobs as artists, and our job as storytellers is to bring those emotions and thoughts and fragility and weaknesses and strengths –– all of that which makes up our humanity to the character. I think you have to. But that’s a general statement. Particularly to my character, Robert Burns was a family friend to Yusuf Salaam. He was actually Yusuf Salaam’s mother’s divorce attorney. So he really was in over his head when it came to the case. He’d actually never done a criminal case as he was a divorce attorney. But they had a certain amount of trust in him and had a certain amount of loyalty to him. Legally, I’m sure they could have made better choices, but he gave them a sense of calm and comfort when he was on the case. C: What kind of research did you do that helped you embody Robert Burns? BU: Most helpful, after Ava gave us all a dossier on the case, was talking to Yusuf Salaam and seeing how he saw Robert Burns. And he saw him as a kind of father figure. And Robert Burns, by all accounts, felt the same way towards him and very much wanted to protect him. Regardless of his experience as an attorney, he wanted to protect him as best he could and the Salaam family trusted him. C: I know this is a naive question, but what do you think made everyone involved so quick to condemn these children in the way they did? BU: Well that is the topic of conversation in the news every day now. The othering of people. Demonizing, vilifying those that are different than us. We hear that from the high prophets of the land and we really have to fight against that and try to find our commonality. So that’s a big question. There’s a lot to how we got to this point in our country and the way race relations are. Listen, I’m a hopeful person and I see hope in the future generations. I see hope in your generation and in the future generations because you look at race relations in this country and those people who are trying to turn the clock back, that’s a losing game. C: If this case happened today, do you think there would have been a similar miscarriage of justice or do you think we’d have been more thoughtful as a society toward them? BU: [Laughs] I would say there would be an attempt to have the same miscarriage of justice. I don’t think it would work as easily, if at all. You think about what has changed since then and, yes, there’s social media, but [there’s] also that we’re all photojournalists. We all have cameras, computers in the palm of our hands. Most people in a metropolis like New York City have phones. It doesn’t change things completely, sure, if you look at [the case of] Eric Garner, for example, but it makes it a little more difficult for those doing things to get away with it. It doesn’t stop it, but it’s another tool in the arsenal. So, yeah, I think there are definitely those people who would like to keep the status quo. Keep all the Black and brown people in their place. But those days are gone.

David Letterman Digs Into Kanye’s Trump Love, Sunday Service And Struggles With Mental Health For “My Next Guest”

Source: Janet Mayer/ SplashNews / Splash News David Letterman Gets Kanye To Open Up About Late Mom, Mental Illness And Trump In case you haven’t already heard — we’ll have another chance to get a better understanding of Kanye West and his “interesting” life and philosophies thanks to his appearance in the new season of David Letterman’s Netflix show “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction.” According to an early preview by the Daily Beast the conversation covers a range of topics including music, fashion and Kanye’s relationships with his father and late mom as Kim Kardashian West sits in the audience watching. Letterman even takes a trip to KimYe’s crib where he tries on pieces from the Yeezy collection, to Kim’s approval. “You look really good,” Kim tells him. View this post on Instagram Just two guys having a laugh. Five new episodes — including Kanye and Dave — are coming next Friday to @Netflix. A post shared by David Letterman (@letterman) on May 25, 2019 at 7:00am PDT We were probably most interested to hear that he brings up other artists he’s been at odds with: During a discussion about his lyrics, Kanye begins to say, “An artist which I will not mention, because I’m not allowed to mention him or any of his family members…” Letterman responds with, “That’s fairly provocative.” “Well, we had a little beef last year,” Kanye says, before revealing that he is referring to Drake. “He has this line that I love that says, ‘I told my story and made history’—like made his story and made history. That’s what we do, we tell our story and then people relate to that story.” But then, he adds, people latch onto that story and get mad when it goes in a direction they don’t expect. “I have a friend who told me that my power is my influence,” Kanye continues. “And I said my power is my ability to not be influenced.” Letterman follows with, “Wow, this is pretty good.” The interview also addresses Kanye’s mental health issues, which he describes thusly: “When you’re bipolar, you have the potential to ramp up and it can take you to a point where you start acting erratic, as TMZ would put it,” the rapper says, referencing his on-air meltdown at that outlet’s offices last year. Ye, who stopped taking his medication a year ago, argues that his disease likely fuels his creativity: “If you guys want these crazy ideas and these crazy stages and this crazy music and this crazy way of thinking,” he says, “there’s a chance if might come from a crazy person.” Of course we saved the best for last… Letterman doesn’t ask Kanye about Trump, Kanye brings up that relationship on his own: In the midst of an argument about his “fear” as a man during the #MeToo movement, Kanye says, “This is like my thing with Trump—we don’t have to feel the same way, but we have the right to feel what we feel.” When he wears his “Make America Great Again” hat, he says it’s “not about politics” but rather an attempt to break the stigma around showing support for Trump. “Did you vote for Trump?” Letterman asks him. “I’ve never voted in my life,” Kanye answers. “Then you don’t have a say in this,” Letterman shoots back to cheers from the audience. Kanye responds, “Well you got me, you got me,” before going on his anti-13th Amendment rant that drew Trump’s praise and may or may not have been inspired by conservative activist Candace Owens. From there, Letterman tries to get Kanye to condemn the Republican-led voter suppression efforts during the most recent midterm elections. “So if I see a person that I admire talking about Donald Trump can think whatever he does,” he says, “I wonder if those thoughts, indirectly, aren’t hurting people who are already being hurt.” Instead of addressing Letterman’s point, Kanye turns around and expresses sympathy for Trump voters who are “treated like enemies of America because that’s what they felt.” After Letterman makes his forceful case against the idea that Trump is some sort of savior to those who voted for him, Kanye takes a long pause. “Have you ever been beat up in your high school for wearing the wrong hat?” he asks eventually. Asked who is doing the bulk of the bullying in America right now, he replies, “Liberals bully people who are Trump supporters!” YIKES… But according to the Daily Beast, Ye kinda manages to redeem himself by revealing some of his James Turrell-inspired Sunday Service project. The episode and four others lands at Netflix this Friday May 31. Will you be watching? Check out the trailer below: Hit the flip to see Kanye talk about his late mom Donda

Kim Kardashian: I’m Gonna Be a Super Important Lawyer!

Kim Kardashian issued a warning to fans on Keeping Up with the Kardashians last night: Enjoy my naked photos while you can , she basically said, because you’ll only have them to ogle for about another decade or so! About one month after news broke that Kardashian was studying to become a lawyer , the reality star expounded on her plans in far more detail on the latest installment of this E! hit. In a revealing few minutes of the show, Kim opened up about her decision to start a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco last summer, with the goal of taking the bar exam in 2022. She is NOT messing around, people. Unbeknownst to many, the 38-year old has been working with author and CNN commentator Van Jones and attorney Jessica Jackson, cofounders of #cut50, a national bipartisan advocacy group on criminal-justice reform, for months, visiting prisons, petitioning governors. As you likely do know well by now, she successfully petitioned President Donald Trump last year to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson , a nonviolent drug offender. And she said last night that prison reform is atop her list of priorities going forward. “It’s kind of crazy because I’m learning it all as I go,” she said on camera. “I spend more time on this than I do anything else. It’s insane but it’s so fun to be around people that are super smart and get it and want the same thing.” Kim’s father was an attorney. He famously helped defend O.J. Simpson in his 1994 murder trial. Kardashian said on air that her dad discouraged her way back in the day from joining this family business, but that working on behalf of Johnson has “motivated” her to try again. “I remember in the OJ case, I would go be going through it and Kourtney would yell at me: ‘Stop going through all of dad’s stuff!’ ” she said of how she’s always had an interest in the law. Added Kim along these lines: “My dad always taught me that hard work is really important and to really commit to things, so my goal would be in like, 10 years, to give up being Kim K and just focus on this and be an attorney and fight for so many deserving people.” It would seemingly be very easy to make fun of Kim Kardashian here. It seems insane of her to think she’s gonna suddenly become a successful and important lawyer, right? This is the same woman who is only famous because she had sex with Ray J on camera. But she actually does seem to acknowledge that it will take time — and let’s imagine for a moment that she can pull it off. We’ve mocked Kim on so many occasions in the past for NOT using her global influence on anything more useful that offering terrible diet tips and/or promoting ridiculous weight loss supplements . We’re not about to hurl any shade now when Kardashian talks about using it for the actual greater good. “I’m dealing with my three kids, I’m dealing with my career, the fourth baby coming and the stress of law school,” Kim said of the challenges ahead. “Just because you do an apprenticeship does not mean that it’s anything less – I mean, you have to put in 18 hours a week. It is a full commitment. I won’t have time for events, for favors, for friends, for literally anything, for four years.” Kanye West is fully on board, however, and Kim has always said she works hard. Here is her chance to prove it. “I’m not afraid to work hard,” she concluded. “It’s going to be really hard but it’s also really important to me to keep this quiet for a while so I can stay committed and focused.” View Slideshow: Kim Kardashian Basically Got Naked on This Red Carpet and Twitter Came at Her So Hard

Anna Duggar: MORE Duggar Pregnancy Announcements Are On the Way!

Duggar pregnancy announcements are like late-night Donald Trump Twitter tirades. We’ve come to expect them as a constant presence in our lives, and yet, we’re still surprised by how frequently they occur. We’re currently less than halfway through 2019, and already, five Duggar women have revealed that they’re expecting. The fam got off to an early start when Jessa Duggar announced her third pregnancy back in January. Soon after, we learned that Joseph Duggar’s wife, Kendra Caldwell, is pregnant with her second child . After that, it was the outcast cousin’s turn. Yes, family rebel Amy Duggar is expecting her first child , a fact that she shared with fans in April. After that, it was a rapid-fire onslaught of fertilized wombs. Earlier this week, we learned that Anna Duggar is pregnant with her sixth child . Just days later, it was revealed that Joy-Anna is knocked up with her second kid . Think it’s already too much to keep track of? Well, just you wait, hypothetical reader — because Anna Duggar says there’s plenty more where that came from. Anna posted a throwback photo on her Instagram page this week. And her caption was enough to get the rumor mill working overtime: “#Throwback to when Jill, Joy & I were pregnant together!” she wrote. “Currently, there are 4 Duggar sisters/sisters-in-law that have shared expectant baby news!” Anna added. “I wonder how many more new cousins will be announced before our little one arrives?!?! #littleduggars.” Needless to say, it was that last part that got people talking. Was it a joke, or is Anna really suggesting that there are more announcements on the way? It may seem impossible, but there are multiple married Duggar women who have yet to announce that they’re pregnant in 2019. We’re sure a full slate of expectant daughters and daughters-in-law would be a dream come true for Jim Bob and Michelle. And if there’s one thing the Duggars value as highly as procreation, it’s putting a smile on the face of patriarch Jim Bob. We’re not saying there are definitely more announcements on the way — we just wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if it plays out that way. View Slideshow: The Duggars: Who’s Courting? Donald Trump to Joe Giudice: Good Riddance, You Criminal!

Donald Trump may be a vile human being who despises immigrants… … but let’s give him points for consistency at least. He appears to despise ALL immigrants. Earlier this month, one of Joe Giudice’s daughters started a petition that she hoped would make its way into the President’s hands. This petition begged and pleaded for someone very high up to overturn her father’s deportation sentencing, as a judge decreed back in October that Giudice had to be sent back to his native Italy. Permanently. This was his punishment for committing bankruptcy fraud as a non-U.S. citizen. Giudice’s lawyer has managed to delay the deportation for at least a little while, but Joe’s family has been hoping that President Trump really might swoop in and save the day. Alas, he will not. According to a source familiar with the administration, the pardon request made on behalf of this admitted liar is not on the Commander-in-Chief’s radar. “This has not reached the White House,” says an insider to People Magazine, which notes that publicity alone does not carry a pardon request to Trump’s desk. That may typically be true. As it probably should be. But it’s understandable that the Giudices may have thought differently about this particular President. The source goes on to explain that Teresa and her kids simply asking for Joe to receive a break doesn’t mean he’ll get one. Moreover: “Thousands of people have through different means tried to bring different cases [to the White House]. The vast majority of them just don’t warrant the decision.” And it’s really not clear why Joe would be an exception here. Both he and Teresa confessed in court to lying about their finances back when they filed for bankruptcy. They hid assets from the government and now they went the government to bail Joe out. How is that for irony?!? Joe finished a 41-month prison sentence in March for mail, wire and bankruptcy fraud. His wife previously served 11 months of a 15-month sentence for fraud.  “They have made a mistake but rectified it through serving time and by finically satisfying all that was owed,” Gia wrote in her petition, which has garnered more than 80,000 of its target 150,000 signatures. Joe was merely a small child when his family moved from Italy to America — but he never completed his naturalization to become a citizen here. Because of the crimes he committed, he is subject to deportation. And that does now appear to be his fate, despite Teresa spilling her heart out to a judge in a recent letter . “Judge Ellington, my daughters need their father. They cry for him every day … I cannot bear the thought of my daughters losing their father,” she wrote last week, adding: “I am fearful that it will break them and that I alone will not be able to fix them. Judge Ellington, this is my greatest fear and it keeps me up at night. “The fear that if I lose my husband, I will also lose my children, as they will never be the same.” Joe and Teresa have four kids: Gia, 18, Gabriella, 14, Milania, 13, and Audriana, 9. It does suck for them that their parents are so terrible. But they may eventually have a new man in the house anyway, someone who might set a better example than Joe has over the years. After all, Teresa has made it clear that she’s ready to move on. She will file for divorce as soon as Joe is given the boot. “I know exactly what happens — I’m sure he’ll be with other women. It happens,” Teresa said in early March, looking ahead to a future of her in America and Joe abroad. “You do the long-distance thing, it’s not going to work. I’d be like, ‘Bye bye.’” View Slideshow: Teresa Giudice: Filing For Divorce Once Joe Gets Deported?!

Gia Giudice to Donald Trump: Please Don’t Deport My Dad!

As you’ve likely heard by now, former Real Housewives of New Jersey star Joe Giudice is being held in an ICE detention center , where he currently awaits deportation to Italy. Giudice’s appeal was denied  last week, which means it’s looking more likely than ever that he’ll be shipped off to the country where he was born, but knows very little about. Sure, Juicy Joe committed tax fraud , and it’s never a good idea to stiff the government of a country where you’re a semi-lawful visitor. Still, many believed the father of four and husband of Teresa Giudice  After all, one doesn’t often see well-connected white guys who have lived in this country for most of their lives being booted out of the U.S., but it seems the judge in Joe’s case decided to adhere to the letter of the law. There’s not much that can save the 46-year-old now — outside of a presidential pardon, that is. Yes, a phone call from OG tri-state reality TV mess Donald John Trump is about the only thing that can rescue Joe from being shipped off to the Mediterranean. Seemingly aware that desperate times call for desperate measures, Joe’s 18-year-old daughter Gia Giudice has posted a petition on Change.org in which she asks readers for their electronic signature in hopes of capturing the president’s attention. Gia describes her father as “a businessman, a husband, father to four young women all under the age of 19, son, brother, uncle and friend to many” and notes that he was “found guilty of NON Violent offense.s”   “He knows nothing of Italian culture, laws, societal norms, he has no immediate family and will not be able to secure work in this foreign land,” Gia writes. “My father is not a danger to society, he is a warm loving man and I beg you sign our petition to give my father a second chance at being part of our lives and giving back to the community we live in once a again.” In case it’s unclear to any of her fans, Gia outlines exactly what’s at stake: “My father is there for us in every possible way a father could be. He has always been our handyman, our confidont, our cheerleader, our challenger and most importantly our protector,” she writes. “This would rob us of my father screaming from the stands at our graduations, meeting our future husbands for the first time, of walking us down the aisle, of being there when his grandchildren come into the world.” Gia concludes with a direct plea to President Trump: “We request that our President, Donald J Trump, review our petition and pardon my father to relieve him of this life sentence the courts are bestowing on him,” she concludes. “Yes in Italy he will no longer be incarcerated but will he ever be free if kept from his family and be able to be a productive member of society?” This is not the first time that Gia has pled her father’s case , and it’s likely her last chance. We guess her father’s fate is now in the tiny hands of President Trump — a frightening prospect, if ever there was one. View Slideshow: Teresa Giudice: Filing For Divorce Once Joe Gets Deported?!
