Yes, it was a simpler time, when the world occasionally made sense, and Donald Trump was just a ex-reality show host with delusions of grandeur. Looking back now, we realize what fools we were. As you may recall, Depp and Heard reached a deal back in August. Both parties agreed to the terms, and it seemed that one of the ugliest celebrity divorces in recent memory had finally come to an end. Then, Amber announced plans to donate her settlement to charity . It sounds like an innocuous enough plan, but her decision set off a new round of legal wrangling that shows no signs of letting up. Many saw Heard’s public declaration of philanthropic intentions as a bald-faced PR stunt. Depp’s team attempted to maneuver around it by offering to donate the cash directly to charity. Heard’s people saw this is as an attempt to make Depp look like the good guy and score a nice tax write-off in the process. For reasons that remain unclear, Heard went on to demand twice as much money as a result of Depp’s attempt to give to the charities directly, thus bringing her total settlement to $14 million. It’s tough to say who’s right and who’s wrong, but either way, the real victim here … is the children. No, but seriously, almost five months after the deal was reached the charities have only received one payment , because the issue has been tied up in court for the majority of that time. Now, Team Depp is claiming that this whole situation is the result of Heard’s desperation to stay in the spotlight. (“The spotlight” here meaning the tabloid headlines.) Depp’s attorney, Laura Wasser, described Heard’s behavior as “a blatant attempt to extend her fifteen minutes of fame” and “an embarrassing grab for additional and unwarranted attorney’s fees.” Harsh words, but there’s a reason TMZ calls Wasser “the disso queen.” The reason is that Harvey Levin sucks at coming up with nicknames. Kris Jenner has penned a tribute to Debbie Reynolds. And we don’t even have anything negative to say about it. While it’s typically a reflex at this point to mock Jenner for everything she does or says, the reality star has taken a few moments to relate to Reynolds as a mother. There’s nothing to make fun of about that. The beloved former actress, of course, died from a stroke on Wednesday . Alongside a black and white photo of Reynolds with her two children, Carrie and Todd Fisher, Jenner wrote the following on Instagram: Absolutely heartbreaking and unimaginable. As a mother I cannot imagine the pain and heartbreak of losing a child. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and a true Hollywood legend… Debbie Reynolds, you will be forever missed but never forgotten!! My love and prayers are with Debbie and Carrie’s family… Jenner is a mother of six. Reynolds was known both for her long and impressive acting career, but also for the close bond she shared with daughter Carrie Fisher. And Fisher died just a day before Reynolds. In response to both passings, celebrity reaction and fan reaction has been both swift and sad. There have been a number of moving tributes, although we may have now found a new favorite. It tragically comes to us from Todd Fisher, Reynolds’ second child, and it features an incredible drawing of his mother and sister. “This is a beautiful love story to witness in my 58 years. I miss them both so much. Love is everlasting,” Todd wrote as a caption to this image: The drawing was created by Ricky LaChance. It depicts Carrie and Debbie with their arms wrapped around each other’s shoulders. The former is dressed as her iconic Star Wars character, Princess Leia; while Reynolds dons a yellow raincoat, just like Kathy Selden, her character in 1952’s Singin’ in the Rain. “What a glorious feeling I’m happy again,” it says above the photo, which is a lyric from Reynolds’ musical comedy. Fisher died on Tuesday after suffering a major heart attack last Friday. Within 24 hours, Reynolds also passed away, saying on her death bed that she just wanted to be with her daughter. Heartbreaking stuff. After recently getting blasted in a sexual sense by husband Dakota Meyer, Bristol Palin announced that she is pregnant with her third child. But this expecting state hasn’t stopped the former Dancing with the Stars contestant from putting some pretty big-time celebrities on blast. In her latest Pathos blog entry, Palin has focused her ire on 11 artists who have refused to perform at the Presidential inauguration for Donald Trump on January 20. She actually lists Elton John, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, The Chainsmokers, Garth Brooks, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Aretha Franklin, David Foster and KISS by name in the lengthy message, taking each performer to task for his or her refusal. “Isn’t it amazing how ‘not cool’ it is to be conservative in the public eye?” Palin asks in the entry, adding: “Either Hollywood is that far off — or we have so many sissies we have in the spot light too scared to stand for what they believe in!” It could be either of those options, sure. Or Hillary Clinton could have defeated Trump by millions of votes in California (which is where Hollywood is located, Bristol), so the views of these anti-Trump celebrities are actually right in line with their fellow Golden State residents. Palin, whose famous mother supported Trump throughout his campaign, also complained about the “hypocrisy” of the circumstance. “If Donald Trump were still just a regular old billionaire and threw in New York City, celebrities would be lined up out the door, and the most famous artists would be pining for a chance to perform,” she argued. This point doesn’t seem to be backed up by many facts, which may help explain why Bristol is such a big Trump fan. You don’t see A-list singers just showing up at parties thrown by billionaires, do you? Moreover, Trump may have been considered egotistical and annoying when he was just a “regular old billionaire,” but he didn’t come across nearly as sexist, bitter, petty, dumb, bigoted and manipulative as he revealed himself to be throughout his Presidential campaign. So, yes, perhaps in some universe some of these stars would have performed for “regular” Donald Trump. But times have very sadly changed. Trump, of course, has found it nearly impossible to line up any acts for his inauguration. He has claimed on Twitter that he doesn’t care, although he also claimed that these A-listers want to be in attendance in D.C. on January 20. “The so-called ‘A’ list celebrities are all wanting tickets to the inauguration, but look what they did for Hillary — NOTHING I want the PEOPLE!” he wrote earlier this month. Chrissy Teigen openly scoffed at the notion that someone as thin-skinned as Trump is actually okay with being disliked by so much of Hollywood. “We ALL know you are dying without the approval, dear,” Teigen Tweeted at Trump in response. Palin, meanwhile, expressed support for 16-year-old Jackie Evancho, the former America’s Got Talent runner-up who was confirmed as performer at next month’s inaugural events. She referred to the Evancho’s decision to take to this worldwide stage as the “best” one she has made “yet” in her career. We’ll see if that holds true. We’ll see if her career takes off after she sings in honor of the 45th President of the United States in a few weeks. There have been a lot of jokes about what a horrendous year 2016 has been (Don’t talk about it in the past tense yet, or it’ll grandmother and your favorite singer in one fiery head-on collision.), but we think much of the criticism has been unfair. After all, we already have reason to believe that 2017 will be much, much worse. We may not know exactly what unique horrors lie in store for us in the coming 12 months, but we do know we won’t make it three weeks before Putin’s puppet pops a figurative squat on the Capitol steps and wipes with the Constitution. Yes, whether you like it or not (statistically, you probably don’t) Donald Trump’s inauguration will take place on January 20. Usually, entertainers consider performing on Inauguration Day to be a incredible honor, but Team Trump has had difficulty securing any talent at all, much less the yuuuuge names that Trump would like to see on stage. Thus far, only three acts have been confirmed for the Donald’s Inauguration Day: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, which is surprising, considering how much Trump struggled against independent candidate Evan McMullin in Utah. Jackie Evancho, which is also surprising, considering that by finishing in second place on her season of America’s Got Talent, Evancho joins the rest of the world on Trump’s list of losers. And the Radio City Rockettes, who are the most surprising selection of all, as they’re basically being coerced into getting on stage to sport massive grins and get their kick-line on. A Rockette named Phoebe Price took to Instagram to express her displeasure with being forced to perform at the inauguration, and her plea for understanding has gone viral today: “I usually don’t use social media to make a political stand but I feel overwhelmed with emotion,” Price writes. “Finding out that it has been decided for us that Rockettes will be performing at the Presidential inauguration makes me feel embarrassed and disappointed.” “The women I work with are intelligent and are full of love and the decision of performing for a man that stands for everything we’re against is appalling,” “I am speaking for just myself but please know that after we found out this news, we have been performing with tears in our eyes and heavy hearts #notmypresident” An email that was sent from the Rockettes union to the performers went public today, and many have expressed shock over the group basically being informed that they have no choice but to take the stage: “Everyone is entitled to her own political beliefs, but there is no room for this in the workplace,” the email reads. “If you are not full time, you do not have to sign up to do this work. If you are full time, you are obligated.” The women are further informed that any “boycott” of the event will be considered “invalid.” Trump, meanwhile, has been tweeting about how many celebrities are clamoring to be invited to the event – without naming any names, of course: “The so-called ‘A’ list celebrities are all wanting tixs to the inauguration, but look what they did for Hillary, NOTHING,” Trump tweeted. “I want the PEOPLE!” the President-elect tweeted this morning.
