It’s official. Following a change in ascension rules , boy or girl, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be the next heir to the British throne. The leaders of the 16 governments with Queen Elizabeth II as their head of state have unanimously agreed to change the laws in their realms to allow this. Under current laws, the immediate heir is the first-born son of the monarch. Going forward, the immediate heir will be the first-born child of the monarch. That means if Prince William and Kate Middleton have a girl as their first child, she will be the future queen, regardless of whether one or more sons follow. British Prime Minister David Cameron said, “Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little girl, that girl would one day be our queen.” Cameron personally applauded the move, adding that the UK stresses gender equality in all facets of life, making this a logical change to their traditions. Queen Elizabeth II’s son, Prince Charles, is next in line for the throne, followed by Will. The royal hunk will be the king of more than a dozen countries. Those nations are Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Papua New Guinea, St. Christopher & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Tuvalu, Barbados, Grenada, Solomon Islands, St. Lucia and the Bahamas. By Eric Ditzian Orlando Bloom and Milla Jovovich in “The Three Musketeers” Photo: Summit Entertainment When you’re sequestered in a London hotel during the finest weekend of U.K. weather that anyone in that virtually sun-free territory can remember, you tend to learn a few things. People get a little loopy. They speak off the cuff. Such is the situation MTV News found itself in earlier this month during a press day for “The Three Musketeers,” when we ended up learning a few surprising things about director Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3-D take on the classic Alexandre Dumas novel, an adaptation that stays true to the original’s creative core but takes joyful liberties no one in the 17th century could ever have imagined. Read on for five rather surprising things you need to know about “The Three Musketeers,” which hit theaters Friday (October 21). Lerman’s Crazy Hair As we first noticed when set photos popped up last year during production, and as posters and trailers have subsequently made clear, star Logan Lerman rocks a very Jim Morrison-like hairdo to play D’Artagnan, a young chap looking to join the vaunted Musketeers. But Lerman didn’t grow his hair out for the role, nor did he slap on a wig every day. “It’s extensions,” he told us. “It was really uncomfortable. A wig would have been a more comfortable choice. I felt ridiculous walking around [off set]. I just had a beanie on all the time.” Bloom’s Anti-“Pirates” Preference At this point, after the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, Orlando Bloom approaches anything involving swords and seafaring with caution. What attracted the actor to “Musketeers” was that his director didn’t want him, for once, to play the good guy. “They wanted me to be part of the movie as Duke of Buckingham, as opposed to playing one of the Musketeers,” he said. “That sold me. The idea that I got to be the kind of villain, sort of a bad boy, bit of a rogue. Lot of fun. Fun, fun, fun! I get to be an arrogant prick and get away with it!” Jovovich’s 3-D Assets Milla Jovovich, who just so happens to be married to Anderson, insisted on doing all her fight training while wearing a corset — a noble, if highly uncomfortable, decision. For her husband’s film, though, she was willing to do whatever was necessary, including showing off her assets for Anderson’s 3-D cameras . “I did have to prepare a lot to make my cleavage what it was,” she said. “I had to eat a lot of pasta and get cinched really tightly into the corset to get the effect and let the girls do the acting for me. Each one took classes. Stanislavski. I think the left one is more talented than the right.” Bloom’s Rock Star Not only does the Duke of Buckingham act differently than Bloom’s “Pirates” good guy, he also dresses completely differently, often slipping into high heels and maintaining a wardrobe that contains every color you’d find in the rainbow (and many you would not). To pull it all off, Bloom turned to ’70s-era rock and roll. “The Duke had a questionable sexual background, no one was quite sure what his sexual flavor was or how many flavors he liked to participate in,” Bloom explained. “He’s a very outspoken and outrageous character. So for me, I just got to swagger through it all. You don’t want the costumes wearing you. You’ve got to wear the costumes. “Paul wanted the Musketeers to be superheroes and for me to be a kind of rock star. So I went with David Bowie from Ziggy Stardust,” he added. “He wore some of those outrageous costumes onstage. So with the Duke, he just owns every square foot that he steps in. He’s like, ‘This is all my territory.’ ” Anderson’s Da Vinci Inspiration Easily the most eye-popping features of “The Three Musketeers” are the fantastical airships he introduces to 17th-century Europe: part ship, part hot-air balloon, totally steampunk . In the film, the ships are said to be built from Leonardo da Vinci’s actual designs. ‘It’s a wrap for today. Kristen has hurt herself,’ co-star on the film tweeted. While details about her injury remain a mystery as of press time, her co-star Max Manganello , who plays one of the duke’s soldiers in the film, announced it on Twitter. The tweet has since been taken down, but according to E! News , Manganello had this to say about the injury on Tuesday: “It’s a wrap for today. Kristen has hurt herself … nothing scary. We shoot on Friday.” A rep for the movie studio had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment by press time and little else is known about Stewart’s condition. Stewart has been busy shooting the film abroad. In late September, she was spotted in Pembrokeshire, Wales, filming a battle scene, and days later she was photographed drenched and wearing a gown on the back of a white horse. The film is expected to open on June 1, 2012 and also features Charlize Theron (the Evil Queen), Chris Hemsworth (the Huntsman) and Sam Claflin (Prince Charming). The story centers on the struggle between Snow White and the Evil Queen, who, jealous of Snow White’s beauty, wants to destroy her. The catch is that Snow White has been training with the Huntsman, who has also been ordered to kill her. Somebody please tell these boys they don’t all have to be Big Meech or Larry Hoover. Duke University football player Tyree Glover was arrested Tuesday and charged with trafficking cocaine. He was dismissed from the Duke football program Wednesday afternoon. Head coach David Cutcliffe announced the dismissal Wednesday “for conduct unbecoming of a member of the program,” in a news release by the school’s sports information staff. When contacted Wednesday, Cutcliffe said he had no further comment. The 6-foot-1, 255-pound sophomore linebacker from Crescent City, Fla., was being held in the Durham County jail Thursday in lieu of $750,000 bond. Glover was arrested by Durham police on Gregson Street and charged with trafficking in cocaine, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said Wednesday. Michael said police then obtained a search warrant and searched his dorm room on the Duke campus where they found marijuana. Michael said police confiscated 29.6 grams of powder cocaine and 72.4 grams of marijuana. Glover was charged with trafficking in cocaine and possession of marijuana and cocaine with the intent to sell and deliver. SMDH. Source
Lourdes plays ‘a super-cute, younger version of my character,’ co-star Abbie Cornish tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Abbie Cornish Photo: MTV News Madonna wrapped production on “W.E.,” her second directorial effort, in October, and now reports are suggesting she’s looking to premiere the movie at the Venice Film Festival, which takes place from August 31 to September 10. The film’s co-star, Abbie Cornish, not only confirmed the possibility of a Venice debut to MTV News, but also revealed the mysterious role Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes, will be playing. “I heard yesterday,” Cornish told us about Venice, while promoting her upcoming thriller, “Limitless.” “That’d be amazing.” “W.E” follows a “Julie & Julia”-esque dual story line, one featuring Cornish as a contemporary woman obsessed with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and another focusing on the royal couple itself. News that Lourdes would appear in a small role surfaced last fall, when photos of the teen in a schoolgirl’s uniform popped up online, but until now the nature of her part was unclear. Cornish’s character, it turns out, has a deep connection to that of Lourdes. “She actually plays a younger version of my character,” Cornish said, adding that because they portray the same person, they never got to share actual screen time. “She’s a super-cute, younger version of my character.” “W.E.” marks Madonna’s second feature following “Filth and Wisdom,” which hit only a handful of theaters in 2008. The new project, the pop star turned filmmaker said last year, has been an obsession of hers even before “Filth and Wisdom” and took her two-and-a-half years to write. “I made ‘Filth and Wisdom’ because I realized that I didn’t really have a right to make a bigger film until I made a smaller film — and learned how to make a film,” she said. According to Cornish, though, the Queen of Pop is a born filmmaker. “Madonna is a natural director,” the actress told us. “It’s in her nature. She’s a Leo and she really represents the Leos very well. She’s a very smart woman, very well read. She really absorbs a lot about whatever she’s involved in. I think she really loves learning. It was interesting to see her evolve throughout the filmmaking process.
