Video: Former Oil Worker Says Cleanup Just For Show

GULF SHORES, Alabama – Former oil clean-up worker Candi Warren says she signed up to make a difference, but soon found out the work of cleaning the beaches was all cosmetic. That's what she was told, she says. Warren says she knew that when crews worked during the day, the tide and surf buried oil overnight. But they were forbidden to dig it up. She quit in disgust three weeks ago despite the $18 per hour pay. She said she was told to only clean the surface of the sand, that this is all cosmetic. She was on a crew at Gulf State Park where tourists go. She says it has priority so as to make it look like the beaches are clean. Feds may set Gulf of Mexico oil slick on fire

Coast Guard officials are considering setting the Gulf of Mexico oil slick on fire as it moved Tuesday to within 20 miles of sensitive ecological areas in the Mississippi River Delta. Officials say it could become one of worst spills in U.S. history. Oil is still leaking at a rate of about 42,000 gallons a day from the well, located some 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana beneath a drill rig that exploded and sank last week. Eleven workers are still missing following the incident, and are presumed dead. BP, the well's owner, is racing to shut off the well using eight remote controlled submarines, but has had no luck as of yet. “If we don't secure the well, this could be one of the most serious oil spills in U.S. history,” Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary Landry, head of a joint response task force, said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. Twenty miles is the closest the slick has come to land so far. Officials said oil slicks are sometimes set on fire, especially when they are near sensitive marsh areas where heavy equipment used to clean the oil may cause more harm than good. If the slick is set on fire, it would be a controlled burn using fire-proof booms, and only done during the day, said Landry. It could begin as early as Wednesday. The spill, measured from end to end, stretched as wide as 42 miles by 80 miles, although oil isn't necessarily covering that entire area. Most of the slick is a thin sheen on the water's surface, ranging in thickness from a couple of molecules to the equivalent of a layer of paint. About 3% of it is a heavy, pudding-like crude oil. At its current flow rate would take over 260 days to rival the Exxon Valdez disaster, which discharged some 11 million gallons into Alaska's Price William Sound. Levi Johnston and Kathy Griffin back together again!

Griffin is going to film some reality TV with Levi while she is up here to perform her comedy act at the Atwood Concert Hall, on March 5 . Sources confirmed she arrived with her film crew just last night. I do not know if this is for her show ” My Life on the D-List ” or for some other reality show, but I do know that they are scouting locations in both Anchorage and Wasilla. Perhaps some of my Alaskan visitors can keep an eye out and let me know if they spot the couple in and around Anchorage or Wasilla. However if you do, please be respectful and don’t do anything to disrupt the filming. I particularly worry about Levi in Wasilla as I have heard that there are still some Palin-bots who are pissed at him. In fact I recently learned that whenever his mother Sherry goes to the store in Wasilla, which the terms of her house arrest allow to do, that various people will call and report her to her parole officer in an attempt to get her thrown back into jail. Can you believe these people? By the way, speaking of “these people”, apparently things in the Palin compound are not as super duper wonderful as Sarah has described it to the media. (Shocked? Yeah me too!) In fact apparently the brood is currently at least one Palin short. Yep, eldest daughter, and abstinence “after the fact” spokeswoman, Bristol has made a break for it and now has a place in Anchorage. At least one source reported that she purchased the place, but I am not sure if that is correct or whether she is simply renting a condo. If Bristol is going to school here in town this makes sense, though I do wonder who is watching Tripp during the day without Sarah’s entourage around to take up the slack. Levi is not living in town currently but I have little doubt he would drop everything and drive in to take care of his boy. And since we are on the subject of the Palin tribe in Anchorage, I have also heard a rumor that Track was staying in town around December/January and that he was seen by more than one person flashing large amounts of cash. Interesting no? Silly me I was not under the impression that a Private in the Army made that much scratch. It looks like Momma-bear is being quite generous with her wealth. Perhaps making sure her kids have enough money to resist any offers by the tabloids to tell a few unsavory tales?
