Now, however, there's a new name in the batsh-t lawyer game, and “Texas Law Hawk” Bryan Wilson is making a case for himself as the king of the bald-eagle-on-acid patriotic mindf-ck commercial. After months of hype, CBS debuted Melissa Benoist in the title role of this eagerly-awaited drama on Monday night, airing Supergirl Season 1 Episode 1 and introducing viewers to Kara Zor-El in the process. She’s the cousin of Superman and she was sent to Earth by her parents when she was 12 years old. Raised by her human foster sister, Kara spent the next 12 years of her life concealing her impressive powers… but we saw on the premiere that she’s now ready to make like her very famous other relative. When we meet Kara, she’s living in National City and working as an assistant to Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant. She’s also working alongside photographer James Olden (yes, James ), who Grant just hired away from The Daily Planet. Just an update on where things stood as we kicked off Scandal Season 5 Episode 1 and strapped in for the latest dose of Shonda-inspired craziness. Watch Scandal Season 5 Episode 1 Online The premiere opened with Sally Langston (a self-described “true American”) updating viewers via her “Liberty Report.” We watched as Fitz hosted a state dinner in honor of Prince Richard of Caledonia marrying an Iowa farm girl named Emily, with Sally worried that it’s a ruse to butter up Queen Isabel in order to get a U.S. naval base built in Caledonia. But whatever, Sally. We weren’t paying attention your “Sodom and Gomorrah” warnings, not when your narration was being interspersed with HAWT Olitz sex scenes. Mellie, of course, was stewing when we saw her again, having been banished from the event due to an imaginary case of the flu. Mellie’s anger was not shocking, but this was: Olivia gets called to the scene of a horrible car crash, one that finds the new princess dead and the paparazzi snapping pictures of her corpse. Gladiators? Game. On. View Slideshow: Scandal Cast Through the Years Olivia and her team get hired to make the paparazzi photos disappear, though Prince Richard is the one who saves the day by posing for shots alongside Emily’s body in the morgue. However: who was the mysterious, helmet-wearing fake photographer who fled the scene? Cut to Mellie and Elizabeth not exactly making nice, with the latter winning this first round thanks to the following burn: I was never loyal to you … You don’t matter to me, and now you also don’t matter to the most powerful man on the face of the earth. But guess who does? Me. Things then get worse for Mellie when Fitz makes a cameo at her swearing-in ceremony (yay!), only to later serve her with divorce papers (boo! Well, yay for Olitz fans). Will Mellie sign them? Back to the crime at hand: David confirms Emily was murdered. Olivia and Quinn believe the Prince did it. But Fitz wants his naval base and wants to gloss over that troubling truth, which leads to a fight with his girlfriend. (Side note: Olivia eventually finds Huck holed up in her apartment waiting for her to “fix” him. Through tears, she tells him, “You need a much better plan than me.”) Ready for another bombshell? Emily was pregnant at the time of her accident, due to an affair with her bodyguard. Olivia delivers this news to the Queen, only to discover that she did it. “Not all fairy tales have happy endings,” she tells Liv in a likely bit of foreshadowing. The premiere concludes with Huck showing up at Jake’s door and also with Fitz and Olivia out on the Truman Balcony, considering going public with their affair. But Sally makes that choice for them, ending the episode by telling the world to forget the “rumors” surrounding the President and his mistress. That actually is what Simpson has written on Instagram in honor of Eric Johnson turning 36 years old on Tuesday. The artist shared the black-and-white photo above on her account and included with it a caption that reads: “My husband is hotter than yours! Happy Birthday Eric Maxwell Johnson! You forever make me lust.” A tad bit TMI, but mostly pretty cute, no? Everyone should remain this enamored by their significant other after many years together. Parents to daughter Maxwell Drew, 3, and son Ace, 2, Simpson and Johnson first stepped out together in May 2010 and got engaged that November. In July 2014, the two exchanged vows in an intimate wedding at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. And this isn’t the first time Simpson has bragged about her attractive husband. She let a couple photos say a couple thousands words about the couple in February when she posted some ” Fifty Shades of Johnson ” images that depicted her and her man in states of undress. “I couldn’t be more in love. And he’s given me two of the best blessings I could imagine. Having a boy and a girl, I’m just blessed. They inspire me,” Simpson said on The Today Show soon afterward.
Human Barbie Valeria Lukyanova is embarking on a new career … as a DJ! She announced as much in a press release on her official site. The controversial model, who aims to subsist on air and light instead of food, has baffled the Internet with her eye-popping proportions. Not to mention her quotes. H-Barb also claimed she was sent to Earth by a spiritual leader called Amatue (we could not make that up). Now Valeria (her “Earthly name” apparently), has her eye on bigger, better things as she kicks off her Space Barbie Tour in October. “Valeria Lukyanova (Human Barbie) starts her DJ mission with futuristic deep house and space disco,” the press release reads. Why should you attend? Because “she delivers pure deep meditation during her set with amazing sounds and mudras show.” She performs in “a way that touches all the energy centers” to increase “the rhythm and [change] the consciousness of the audience.” Her show “will resemble a fascinating musical journey into the deep space.” Sounds even weirder than these Valeria Lukyanova photos . Early this morning, Alison Parker and Adam Ward were shot and killed while broadcasting a live news report for WDBJ in Roanoake, Virginia. The man responsible for the shooting, Vester Lee Flanagan , fled the scene, but shot himself while being pursued by police just hours later. Despite the severity of his self-inflicted wound, Flanagan is still alive and is reportedly in critical condition at an unspecified Virginia hospital. Shortly after the shooting, several sources claimed that Flanagan had faxed a disturbing 23-page manifesto to his former employers at WDBJ, detailing his various grievances with the network, and with the world in general. Now, for the first time, portions of the document are being made public, and the excerpts that have been released thus far paint a chilling portrait of a man who claims he was pushed to the edge by homophobia and racial discrimination. In a part of the document that Flanagan labels “Suicide Note for Friends and Family,” the 41-year-old former multimedia reporter explains that he was “sent over the top” by the Charleston church shooting that took place in June. He also claims that he was a victim of “racial discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying at work.” Flanagan says he was “attacked” by black men and white females as a result of his race and sexual orientation. “Yes, it will sound like I am angry…I am,” Flanagan writes at one point. “And I have every right to be. But when I leave this Earth, the only emotion I want to feel is peace. “The church shooting was the tipping point…but my anger has been building steadily…I’ve been a human powder keg for a while…just waiting to go BOOM!!!!” In tweets that he posted before shooting himself, Flanagan stated that he had been discriminated against by both Parker and Ward.
