MTV Movie Awards Go Live Tonight! Who Will Win Big?

The Girl on Fire and the Boy Who Lived are destined for Golden Popcorn greatness, while big things are in store for ‘Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘Magic Mike’ fans as well. By Josh Wigler Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Happy MTV Movie Awards day, and may the odds be ever in your favor! You have no shortage of films and stars to root for when tuning into the big show tonight (June 3) at 9 p.m. ET, and that only makes the decisions harder. How can you possibly choose between supporting the Boy Who Lived’s last night at the Movie Awards and Katniss Everdeen’s first time in the arena? Too much pressure! Still, as in every competition, there will be winners and losers at this year’s show, with plenty of cause for triumph and heartbreak. And while we’re still hours away from knowing exactly who those victors are, we’ve got some sneaking suspicions about who will wind up owning the night. Keep reading for our predictions: “The Hunger Games” Before Iron Man and the rest of “The Avengers” sucked all the air out of the box office, 2012’s biggest commercial titan was the Girl on Fire. Tonight at the Movie Awards, Katniss doesn’t have to worry about Earth’s mightiest heroes — only Captain America and Thor are nominated for Best Hero , and it will take a miracle to boost them to the top — and can instead focus on main rivals “Bridesmaids” and “Harry Potter.” Fans have rallied behind “Hunger Games” in a massive way over the past year, and with a leading nine nominations to its name, the odds are most certainly in this movie’s favor for ruling the show tonight. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” This is Harry’s final time to shine at the Movie Awards. As the fourth highest-grossing picture of all time, it’s safe to say that there are more than a few fans hoping for some good old-fashioned “Deathly Hallows” domination. Best Cast should be a lock for “Potter,” if only to acknowledge the phenomenal work of scenery-chewers Alan Rickman and Ralph Fiennes. It’s neck-and-neck between Potter and Katniss for Best Hero, but we’re placing our money on the Boy Wizard. And a Movie of the Year win is not out of the question, either. It has a huge obstacle to overcome in the increasingly hot “Hunger Games,” but as Lord Voldemort learned the hard way, you can never put Potter down for the count. “The Dark Knight Rises” Fans No matter who you’re rooting for at the Movie Awards, it’s the fans who will walk away the winners — Batman fans in particular. Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman will all be on hand to present exclusive “Dark Knight Rises” footage at the show, in case you haven’t heard. Though we’re still in the dark regarding what exactly we’ll see, Movie Awards director Hamish Hamilton has seen the top-secret footage, and he’s “telling you, it’s good.” Expect this footage to be the talk of the town (or at least the Twitterverse) long after the show ends. Shirtless-Men Enthusiasts Another someone with an outside shot at dominating the Movie Awards conversation tonight is Channing Tatum, who finds himself nominated for multiple awards, including Best Kiss and Best Hero. Don’t count on him winning either of those awards — the former is all “Twilight,” and the latter is a battle of the bows and wands — but who needs a Golden Popcorn statuette when you have abs to put Taylor Lautner to shame? There’s growing buzz that Tatum is going to bring some of his “Magic Mike” shirtless magic to Movie Awards viewers tonight, so if you’re a fan of hot men sans clothes, you might be this year’s biggest winner. Russell Brand Finally, hats off to the man who’s going to keep the trains powered by farts tonight: Russell Brand, host of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Mark Wahlberg’s threats aside, we’re very confident Brand is going to absolutely tear it up at the show this year, if his past performances as host of the VMAs are any indication. Besides, Brand is allowed to do whatever he wants tonight — group sex , anyone? Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to cast your vote for Best Hero and Best Movie now! The “Movie Awards Punk’d Pre-Party” starts at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards live tonight at 9 p.m. ET! Related Videos Behind The Scenes At The 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Charlie Sheen: Out of Control, Partying Like a Madman With Porn Stars Again, Friends Say

Stop us if you’ve heard this one. Charlie Sheen has been on a booze-and-drug-fueled bender since he wrapped Anger Management last month, a source close to the warlock said. The 46-year-old is again partying with “a gaggle of adult film stars” – and for a time, ex-wife Brooke Mueller – at his Mulholland Estates mansion. Mueller is back in rehab . So out-of-control is Charlie now that some of his closest confidantes have begged him to join her there to treat his addictions. Not surprisingly, he dismisses that idea. “Yes, Charlie is partying,” a source says. “He doesn’t want to stop. In his eyes, he thinks, ‘I’m having fun, so what?’ The show has wrapped.” “But it is a problem… a major problem. He has alienated his kids and commitments and is effectively locking himself up in a house with women.” “Even people at Charlie’s house are trying to talk sense into him. He needs help, but he wants nothing to do with it. His rage is coming back.” Asked for comment, Sheen, via his rep, told Celebuzz to “ consider the source .” In a May 18 Tweet, Sheen – whose new series on FX premieres June 28, wrote : “Done w/ #AngerManagement 1st 10… so this weekend will be epic!” And the one after, and the one after that, and … [Photo: WENN.com]

The Green Lantern: Rebooted, Gay in New Comic Book!

Alan Scott, a.k.a. the Green Lantern, is officially coming out of the closet. The DC Comics staple, who was first introduced in 1940 as a husband and father, is a homosexual in Earth 2’s new comic, being released next week. The comic-book giant approved author James Robinson’s character-altering decision “without hesitation.” Here’s GL making out with his boyfriend: “He’s very much the character he was,” James tells the New York Post of the change. “He’s still the pinnacle of bravery and idealism. He’s also gay.” Interestingly enough, Alan’s son Obsidian was gay, but the rebooting of Alan as a young man means erasing the existence of his kids altogether. “So I thought, ‘Why not make Alan Scott gay?’” James says of his decision to alter his sexual orientation . “That was the seed that started it.” It’s unclear if this particular seed he planted will encourage other superheroes to come out, or will increase or decrease interest in GL’s exploits. It’s unlikely, though, that Ryan Reynolds’ version of The Green Lantern will change teams in the much-anticipated sequel to last year’s film.

Harry Potter And Katniss Need A Movie Awards Hero

Captain America, Thor and Channing Tatum’s Jenko battle it out on Twitter to win Best Hero on Sunday. By Ryan J. Downey Daniel Radcliffe in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” Photo: Warner Bros. Harry Potter spent several movies (and books, of course) battling Voldemort, both indirectly and in face-to-face confrontations. Katniss Everdeen’s skill with a bow and arrow has kept her alive against considerable odds. Captain America has fought bad guys (like his arch-nemesis the Red Skull) in various incarnations since World War II, whether with the Invaders, the Howling Commandos or the Avengers. His teammate, Thor, has gone up against all manner of sinister foes across all the nine realms, not the least of which being his half-brother, the mischievous Loki. Jenko, from the big-screen version of “21 Jump Street,” not only had to contend with drug dealers, but there was the whole “politics of high school” drama too. But right now, all these heroes are facing their most fervent, vocal, communicative, evolving and passionate adversary yet: Twitter. The MTV Movie Awards first-ever social voting category, Best Hero , has harnessed the power of Twitter like Marvel supervillains harnessing the power of the Cosmic Cube to determine which of the big screen do-gooders (many of them ripped from the written page) is truly the people’s champion. It’s been up-to-the-minute action worthy of some of their biggest adventures, with the instantaneous might of the microblogging medium allowing each of them to rise and fall in the ranks constantly as fans tweet their favorites with special hashtags. Harry Potter and “Hunger Games” hero Katniss have been in the closest competition for the top spot, each with well over 100,000 votes as of this writing. Katniss, of course, is just starting her movie franchise stardom even as the onetime boy wizard has grown up and moved on after last year’s final “Potter” installment. “The Avengers” mopped the floor with the blockbuster “Hunger Games,” usurping the novel-based movie’s throne to become the #1 movie of 2012 thus far (and rising through the top five in the all-time list as well). However, the Best Hero category may have split the Avengers fan vote by pitting two of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against each other. Captain America has been a distant third with his pal Thor even further behind at #4. Jenko from “21 Jump Street,” the smash comedic take on the ’80s TV show of the same name about a group of cops who go undercover in high school, has his work cut out for him. He’s trailing behind all the other heroes, but in fairness, he doesn’t have the same historical power of his foes. Channing Tatum also had to walk in the shadow of Johnny Depp (who — spoiler — reprised his TV role in a brief cameo) in “Jump Street,” though it won favor with critics (85 percent on the Tomatometer!) and fans ($136 million at the box office! For an action comedy! In March!) alike. Channing Tatum, of course, is also nominated in the Best Kiss category thanks to his steamy lip-lock with Rachel McAdams in “The Vow.” But when we sat down with him on Thursday, he told us he’s confident that a certain franchise has that category in the bag. “It doesn’t matter. The ‘Twilight’ kids always sweep it,” he told MTV News when he sat down for the “Magic Mike” MTV Sneak Peek Week event . “They sweep it every time.” He was kind enough to personally thank MTV News’ @JoshuaHorowitz and the small but dedicated army of #VoteJenko fans himself from his own Twitter account, @ChanningTatum. Twitter user @lesleycherrypie voted Jenko, “Not only because he’s hot, but that is a big part of it.” @CaraFoshizzle quoted several of her favorite lines from “Captain America: The First Avenger” as she tweeted her vote for Mr. Steve Rogers. @HarryPotterings pleaded, “Please #VOTEPOTTER before the voting closes! It’s one of our last chances to win an award for our childhood.” @CleverGranger said, “Katniss ‘won’ The Hunger Games, but Harry ‘saved’ the wizarding world. Who’s the true hero now?” Quotes from “The Hunger Games” have flooded the Twitter-verse, as well. @MaryamA115 said, “She’s getting closer! 2nd place now. :D” Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

IBM Bans Siri in Workplace

IBM has reportedly banned the use of the iPhone 4S voice recognition service Siri, but not because it’s annoying or pointless. It’s a security risk. Possibly, anyway. IBM Chief Information Officer Jeanette Horan said earlier this week that destination for outgoing search inquiries made using Siri could be a concern. When people ask Siri a question the data is sent to Apple’s facility in Maiden, N.C. After that, no one knows what the company does with the date. This alarms IBM, as Apple could be storing their information on their servers. Apple doesn’t sayow long data is stored or who can access it, but Horan has made it pretty clear that the company is “extraordinarily conservative.” Edward Wrenbeck, Apple’s Siri developer, downplayed concerns, saying “People already do these things on mobile devices. Maybe Siri makes their lives easier, but it’s not exactly opening up a new avenue that wasn’t there before.” Well, except for cellphones getting racist or telling off Zooey Deschanel .

Photo of Boy Patting Obama’s Head Finally Explained

When you’re the most powerful and famous person on Earth, every photo gives way to the next in a matter of hours if not minutes. Except this one. By popular demand, it’s remained on display at his office since 2009. An “aw”-inducing photo hangs in the White House’s West Wing showing President Obama leaning over to allow a 5-year-old boy to touch his hair. The New York Times reveals the back story that led to the picture: The boy in the picture is Jacob Philadelphia of Columbia, Md. Three years ago this month, his father, Carlton, a former Marine, was leaving the White House staff after a two-year stint on the National Security Council. As departing staff members often do, Mr. Philadelphia asked for a family photograph with the Commander-in-Chief, who happily obliged. When the pictures were taken and the family was about to leave, Mr. Philadelphia told Mr. Obama that his sons each had a question …

What Will Smith Learned From Star Wars, Rap Music, and Watching Dallas

This week marks the big screen return of Will Smith — Hollywood’s most bankable star — after a four year absence from acting, during which time the erstwhile Fresh Prince refocused his personal pursuit of happiness: namely, producing the burgeoning entertainment careers of kids Jaden and Willow Smith, while fine-tuning his own career. So where do you go when you’re already on top — or were, a few films ago? Back to the blockbuster well, if you’re Smith, whose Men in Black 3 headlines the latest step in a lifetime career plan that, he describes, began when he was just a kid himself. “I like big movies,” admitted Smith to journalists at the Men in Black 3 press day in Los Angeles, “and the adjustment I’m making in my career right now is the clarity of what we’re saying with the movie. There has to be an idea, there has to be some message or some statement, for me.” Even, say, in a threequel about aliens wreaking havoc on earth? Despite widespread reports of the chaotic Men in Black 3 production — filming without a finished script, for starters — Smith insists these essential messages are there to be found as viewers watch his Agent J traipse back in time to the 1960s to save the younger version of his partner, Agent K (played by Josh Brolin , channeling Tommy Lee Jones with uncanny aplomb). “With Men in Black 3 we connected to the destructive nature of secrets,” he explained. “That idea whether you get that or not, when you look at it or think about it, that’s what we’re displaying, and how a relationship can get repaired and go to another level through the exposure of a secret.” At the age of 43, the Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated Smith is almost twice as old as he was when he first rose to popularity on his TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air . And though he’s still got those baby faced looks and an effervescent energy about him, he espouses the kind of philosophical musings of someone who’s managed to avoid the pitfalls of fame through sheer determination. “I control every interaction with every human being that I’m with,” he proclaimed. “That a person isn’t just an asshole, or a person isn’t crazy; if I’m aware, I can actually manage any situation with 98 percent of the people on Earth.” Of course, there’s the odd fan who’ll go in for one too many kisses on the red carpet — like the Ukrainian journalist at the center of last week’s widely reported Men in Black 3 premiere incident (which occurred after this interview). “There are some lunatics that you just can’t do nothing with them,” Smith said with a smile, “but for the most part you play a part in every aspect of your life going the way you want, or not going the way that you want.” That self-determining secret to success is something that Smith also says he and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith try to impart to their children, Willow and Jaden. “The idea of failure is a label,” said Smith. “It has no bearing on what actually happened. What actually happened can turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to you if you decide that it’s the best thing that ever happened to you. So for me, the big thing with my kids is you have to control how you label things, because they’re going to become what you say it is. It’s very important to me that they understand the power they have to create the lives that they want.” “Willow, for example — we were getting flack for letting Willow cut her hair,” he said. “If I teach her that I’m in charge of whether or not she can touch her hair, she’s going to replace me with some other man when she goes out in the world. Now, she can’t cut my hair! [Laughs] But that’s her hair. To me it’s more about lumping the responsibility on them for their lives, as much weight as they can hold without breaking… that’s what we try to give them until they can hold the full weight of their lives.” [To son Jaden, with whom Smith co-starred in The Pursuit of Happyness and appears in M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth : “I tell him all the time, ‘Son, I’m going to teach you everything that I know — and if you work hard, you can be the second biggest movie star in the world.’”] This brings Smith full circle, in a way, with the roots of his own success, which he credits to soaking up the pop cultural trifecta of Star Wars , hip-hop, and TV’s Dallas as a child. “It just felt like somehow the limits got knocked off after I saw [ Star Wars ],” Smith recalled. He was 10 years-old when he first saw the sci-fi classic. “It coincided right with the time that ‘Rapper’s Delight’ came out, so it was the introduction to rap music and Star Wars in the same year. Rap music was something that only people in New York did, and it was separate and you couldn’t get it, but part of the experience of Star Wars made me think, ‘Oh, I can rap.’ My mind got expanded in a way that’s really hard to explain.” Add to that the sprawling estate that the Ewing family lived on in Dallas and Smith’s lifelong inspiration was set. “Grown people lived on the property and came to breakfast and everybody worked in the family business, and I was like, ‘I want that!’” he exclaimed. “So I’ve been like a mad scientist trying to build Dallas through Star Wars and rap music.” Men in Black 3 is in theaters Friday. Mary Murphy Accused of Stiffing Manager, Being a Coked-Up Nymphomaniac

So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy, 54, has spoken candidly before about her troubled past. Now her ex-manager, Michael Sanchez, who’s suing her for stiffing him on commissions, is doing the same, and then some. Sanchez, who managed Murphy from 2006-2010 and is seeking $1 million, says she lived a dangerous life fueled by coke and “many inappropriate sexual relationships with So You Think You Can Dance and Chelsea Lately crew members.” Sanchez, who worked with Murphy for four years before she fired him back in ’10, also claimed that the TV star fell into a bad downward spiral . She became “increasingly self-absorbed, childish and demanding” over the years, with only Sanchez keeping her from an absolute meltdown. Sanchez claims he once busted in to her apartment when she was unresponsive, high on drugs and in bed with a SYTYCD producer. Nice. He also claims that the judge would often violate FOX rules and U.S. game show laws by secretly coaching contestants behind the scenes. Oh, and she would be drunk on set during LIVE tapings and hide her booze in a Coke cup. It’s not a pretty picture he’s painting right here. [Photo: WENN.com]

Khloe, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian: Klad in Lingerie!

Khloe, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian are once again advertising for their family’s clothing collection, and they are once again doing so with very few layers of clothing actually on. Oh, the irony. A few months after the photoshopped sisters posed topless on behalf of the Kardashian Kollection , they’re back in another supposedly sexy spread, this time donning nothing but lingerie. See for yourself: Kim, the Hottest Woman on Earth according to her publicity team Zoo Magazine , is front, center and busty, while Kourtney’s baby bump is nowhere to be seen and Khloe is quite covered up compared to her siblings. This feels like a good time to post other photos of a bare-skinned Kim Kardashian, while asking readers: Which Kardashian would you rather ?
