The re-edited version of the post-apocalyptic party clip features more footage of Spears and her backup dancers showing off their moves. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears in her new “Till the World Ends” video Photo: Jive A dance version of Britney Spears’ “Till the World Ends” video has hit the Web just in time for the weekend. The original clip, which premiered earlier this month and got lots of great buzz for Spears, shows the pop vixen leading a wild underground dance party as an apocalyptic storm hits the planet, and the new video features a lot of similar footage with a number of noticeable changes. One of the most conspicuous differences is that the new “Till the World Ends” clip offers a lengthier peek into some of the sleek moves of Spears’ backup dancers. There are definitely more shots of Britney dancing as well, even if sometimes they are obscured in shadow. Interestingly enough, much of the apocalypse storyline has been edited out to make room for those new dancing shots. While the party looks the same, the fact that the world is crashing around them is a nonissue for this version of the Ray Kay-directed video. Rather than focusing on the impending doom outside, this cut displays all the fun down in Spears’ sweaty underground party. As the video closes out, there are shots of her dancers, individually, showing off their skills, intercut with footage of Spears smiling as she sings about getting her party on. The new clip’s ending is entirely different from that of the original. Instead of emerging from her post-apocalyptic party to a sun-drenched world that, well, has not ended, Spears just looks into the camera, still apparently hiding from what is assumed to be some catastrophe that has befallen the Earth. It hints at a darker finish for Spears and her partiers … maybe in this version the world does end. “The real music video is best, of course,” Ray Kay tweeted on Thursday about his re-edited version of the clip. “But it’s fun to watch the choreography too.” Do like like the dance-heavy re-edited version of Britney’s “Till the World Ends” video? Katie Couric’s replacement on the CBS Evening News will be Scott Pelley, a veteran journalist and 60 Minutes correspondent, according to reports. Pelley is the choice of CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager, who became Chairman in February on the condition he could decide who takes the desk. He believes Scott is well-liked and respected by his bosses, and just as significantly, there really is no second choice who appeals to CBS bosses. Couric is leaving the desk to do a syndicated show at the network, but may maintain a news presence. What do you think of her replacement? By Kara Warner Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth Photo: Getty Images After months of debate, speculation and rumors , Lionsgate has officially announced casting for the two male leads in the highly-anticipated film, “The Hunger Games.” Josh Hutcherson (“The Kids Are All Right”) will play romantic, reluctant hero Peeta Mellark, and Liam Hemsworth (“The Last Song”) will play brooding boy-next-door Gale Hawthorne. Hutcherson and Hemsworth will star alongside Jennifer Lawrence, who was recently announced as having landed the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen . Hutcherson has been acting for over a decade in films like “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” but he is perhaps most recognizable for his role in last year’s critical darling and Oscar-nominated film, “The Kids Are All Right.” Australian Hemsworth, although slightly newer to Hollywood, has been garnering attention from his roles in TV and film, particularly British soap, “Neighbours” and last year’s tear-jerker romance, “The Last Song.” (That and the fact that he dated Miley Cyrus.) “The Hunger Games” is based on Suzanne Collins’ dystopian best-seller about children forced to compete in an annual, televised fight-to-the-death battle. It is an intense and violent story of survival, corrupt governments and a struggling population, with a heartbreaking love triangle thrown in for good measure. The fanbase for “The Hunger Games” is a fiercely loyal one whose ferocity and dedication to Collins’ source material have drawn comparisons to the “Twilight” fans, although “Hunger Games” readers tend to skew slightly older. New clip with Kanye West is a big-budget spectacle that takes Perry to the next level. By James Montgomery Katy Perry in her “E.T.” video Photo: Capitol We’ve seen Katy Perry camp it up in “California Gurls” and go glam in “Thinking of You” and “Teenage Dream,” but we’ve never seen her get extraterrestrial — until now, of course. Because in her new video for “E.T.” — which premiered Thursday (March 31) on MTV.com — Perry plays the titular alien: a swirling, shifting, otherworldly being who crashes to earth to resurrect a long-dormant love and, in the process, perhaps reboot the human race (since, as is often the case with sci-fi exploits, planet Earth has undergone some sort of cataclysmic apocalypse and is now bereft of life). At least, I think that’s the plot of the thing, though, really, it’s not all that important if I’m wrong. In other words, it’s a Hollywood-level spectacle, a summer smash that just so happened to come out in the early days of spring. It’s an event. And really, with each #1 single she notches, it’s the kind of clip Katy Perry has earned, one that puts her on par with other pop megastars like Britney and Gaga in the sheer scope of the production. Working with acclaimed director Floria Sigismondi, Perry has created a video that certainly ranks among her very best and is unquestionably the biggest thing she’s ever done, a production proceeded with glossy teaser clips and online “abductions.” The mind boggles at the cost of the wardrobe and hair extensions alone. But, much like the plot, none of that really matters. “E.T.” is less about the insignificant details and more about the larger picture — a video that not only moves Perry to the upper echelon, but looks and sounds great. It’s a widescreen, THX-ian type of thing, meant to be marveled at. Whether or not you do, you can’t deny that KP has earned the right to make it.
