Kanye West’s Fashion Show ‘Monumental,’ Ciara Says

‘I saw Kanye after, and I told him it was amazing,’ Ciara tells MTV News via phone from Paris Fashion Week. By James Montgomery Kanye West and Ciara at Paris Fashion Week on Saturday Photo: Antonio de Moraes Barros/ WireImage Kanye West finally unveiled his much-discussed womenswear line Saturday night (October 1) with a high-profile show at Paris Fashion Week that was as full of eye-catching designs as it was celebs. From Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour to actress Lindsay Lohan, the stars were on full display for West’s show. Minutes after ‘Ye took his bow, we spoke to Ciara , who phoned MTV News from backstage to give us her take on the collection. And, yes, she was impressed with what she saw. “It was amazing. The clothes, the feeling in the room, the energy backstage — it really feels special,” she said. “It was definitely one of the most talked-about events [of Paris Fashion Week], because it wasn’t going to be your typical show. This doesn’t happen every day, and to see someone like Kanye, who aspires to succeed in fashion, to get so much respect and cross over like this, it was monumental. It was an historic moment.” While she was amazed by the fashion community’s embracing of West, Ciara was quick to point out that she was just as struck by his designs, singling out a few favorite looks. “I loved the pants, the color-blocking and the orange, I loved the fur accessories, I loved the black dresses,” she said. “There was a lot of attitude. It was strong, sexy … I loved it. I kept seeing looks that made me think, ‘Oh my God, I want that.’ ” Just before she phoned MTV News, Ciara had a chance to speak with West backstage, congratulating him on a job well done. As she was getting ready to head out into the night (“There’s definitely an afterparty,” she laughed), she also took a moment to reflect on (and draw inspiration from) what she had just witnessed. “I saw Kanye after, and I told him it was amazing. But there was so much chaos backstage — good chaos, of course. He was excited, and it was just so much good energy,” she said. “And now, I’m walking away from this being inspired. He continues to inspire me with everything that he does. And tonight was definitely a moment.” For complete coverage of Kanye West’s Paris Fashion Week debut , check out the MTV Style blog . Kanye West Makes Paris Fashion Week Debut

West unveils womenswear collection before star-packed crowd, including Lindsay Lohan, Jared Leto and Ciara. By James Montgomery Kanye West at his Paris Fashion Week debut Photo: Antonio de Moraes Barros/ WireImage Kanye West made his Paris Fashion Week debut Saturday night (October 1), launching a womenswear line with a high-profile show that was sexy, swaggering and, of course, incredibly stylish. Before an audience that included fashion heavyweights like Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour, designer Alexander Wang and photographer Terry Richardson — not to mention celebs like Lindsay Lohan, Jared Leto and Ciara — West paraded a host of different looks, from daringly cut dresses and color-block pants to body-hugging tracksuits and high-end hoodies. West draped his models in flowing fabrics, leather and fur, propped them up on beaded stilettos and even gave each a matching “Yeezi” nameplate chain to wear on the catwalk. And for an artist to whom subtlety is often a foreign concept, West displayed an unerring attention to the tiny details, as evidenced by the collection’s artfully beaded ensembles, knitted tops and even fur-covered backpacks — all of which had the crowd murmuring with approval. For a more detailed account of all the looks, check out the MTV Style blog, which was in attendance and kept a running diary of West’s fashion debut. Though it was his first-ever showing, West’s bow was also one of the most-hyped events of Paris’ annual fashion week, with bloggers hyping stories that he had spent 14,000 pounds on fabric and trimmings at London haberdasheries and speculating that his show would feature only the models he mentioned in his song “Christian Dior Denim Flow.” The actual location for the show was kept a closely guarded secret, with invitations being mailed the day before the event, a move that only further added to the frenzy. And given the buildup, it seemed only natural (and, in keeping with Fashion Week tradition) for West to start his show some 45 minutes after the supposed 9:30 p.m. start time. But that didn’t seem to bother those lucky enough to gain entry into Paris’ Lycee Henri IV (a posh secondary school taken over by West’s team for the event), who chatted beneath soft purple lighting while waiting for the first models to walk. At show’s end, West emerged to applause, wearing a simple white T-shirt, black pants and a pair of Jordans. After taking his bow, he posed for photos backstage with his models, and speculation began that his collection (which doesn’t yet have a name) might actually be called Yeezi, as the nameplates seemed to hint. Kush Chronic-les: Wiz Khalifa Waxes Philosophical About His Love For Amber Rose And Mary Jane

Even if Wiz Khalifa didn’t stay rapping about his love of Marijuana, his interviews and conversations would give up instantly give up his pot head status. Take for example the answer he gave a recent interviewer about his bliss with the bald-headed beast . It’s awesome to have that support and to have that base. It gives me structure, it gives me discipline and it helps me work on other stuff that’s much more important. I feel like everybody has some person that’s out there for them. If you tap into that and take advantage of it and hold it close and treat it like what it is, that’s when you’ll get – fully – out of it what you’re supposed to. Huh? There’s no way you can convince us that the editor of that piece didn’t have to take out the word “man” and “you know” and all types of silly giggles out of that quote. Then they asked him about his true love. CNN: Let’s talk about your love for weed. How much are you spending these days? Give us a figure. WK: Oh nah, there’s no figure, man. It varies [laughs]. CNN: Would you see your financial habits or relationship with the drug change if it was ever legalized? WK: It would be the same. CNN: Really? WK: Yeah, because it’s not about being illegal and it’s not about it being bad or anything like that, it’s about what makes me happy and what I know is not too dangerous. It’s a huge umbrella – doctors smoke weed, old ladies smoke weed, soccer moms, players, coaches – everybody smokes weed. I think it’s a common ground, it’s a peaceful ground. Kids, this is your brain on drugs. Source

It took far too long in the eyes of many, but Rebekah Brooks is finally out at News International. The woman who served as the editor of Great Britian’s News of the World throughout its phone-hacking scandal – the tabloid broke into the voicemails of a 13-year old girl who had been kidnapped, along with the families of 9/11 victims and many others – resigned today. “As chief executive of the company, I feel a deep sense of responsibility for the people we have hurt and I want to reiterate how sorry I am for what we now know to have taken place,” she said in a statement. “I have believed that the right and responsible action has been to lead us through the heat of the crisis. However my desire to remain on the bridge has made me a focal point of the debate.” Brooks added that recent times have been “tough” and that she plans to correct “distortions” about her record as a journalist. Odd Future Bridge The ‘Divide’ In Hip-Hop For The New West

Fader ‘s editor in chief calls the eclectic collective’s rise ‘a special moment.’ By Steven Roberts Odd Future’s Tyler, the Creator Photo: Getty Images Over the past few months, Odd Future have exploded onto the music scene, leading the charge for the New West . The L.A.-based collective has found itself performing at the mtvU Woodies ; in the pages of nearly every skate, music and pop-culture publication; taking over “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” ; and even parodying itself in a Funny or Die spoof. While the last few months may have seemed like a whirlwind, the group isn’t an overnight-success story. Tyler, the Creator, Domo Genesis, Hodgy Beats, Left Brain and the rest of the gang have been making noise for quite some time. They’ve released more than 10 albums over the last two years and made significant waves underground and on the Internet, building a substantial, loyal following thanks to their attention to lyrical detail and “I don’t give a f—” attitude. “It seems like there’s been kind of a divide in hip-hop, where the people that are quote-unquote lyricists are very serious about their craft and don’t seem like they’re having very much fun at all,” said Andrew “Noz” Nosnitsky. “And the party-oriented stuff is more the guys like Waka Flocka and dudes who are like, ‘Nah, I don’t care about lyrics at all.’ ” Noz, who wrote OF’s Billboard cover story , said the group appeals to people on both sides of the fence. Tyler has been vocal about his love of Waka Flocka Flame and his disdain for overly critical hip-hop heads, but his crew’s lyrical prowess can’t be ignored. Fader Editor in Chief Matthew Schnipper agreed that OF’s mixture of bedlam and lyricism made for something special. “There’s always people making good things, and there’s always people running around trying to be ridiculous,” Schnipper told MTV News. “When the two things come together, it’s a special moment.” Schnipper also said Odd Future owed a lot of their success to new fans joining their circus. OF had released a bevy of free albums before they caught the mainstream’s attention, leaving newcomers with a lot to catch up on. “By the time everyone jumped on them, they had already had a full body of work that had already been on the Internet and around, so I think to some degree, that’s exciting, because here is somebody you didn’t know about, and then you can go to page 102 on a Tumblr and 4 million mixtapes. There’s a body of work there to be explored that’s all pretty solid.” Stick with us all week as MTV News turns the spotlight on the New West, including a special edition of “RapFix Live” with Cali’s own Tyga on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. We’re bringing you the next wave of hip-hop acts helping restore faith in the L.A. rap scene. From groups like Odd Future to rising MCs like Dom Kennedy, we’ll bring you up close and personal to these artists as they carve their own lanes in the post-gangsta rap era. ‘American Idol’ In 60 Seconds: Stop The Clock For Pia

Is it America’s fault Pia Toscano got the boot, or is it the judges’? By Jim Cantiello Pia Toscano on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Jim Cantiello’s “American Idol” in 60 Seconds recaps have been an institution at MTV News since Sanjaya’s Reign of Terror. But sometimes, the lightning-quick pace moves by so fast, you occasionally miss a joke, comment or sight gag. So, as a courtesy to our loyal watchers, we’re publishing the full script of Jim’s latest recap. This week, the top nine (and Scotty’s groupies) tackled rock and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artists! [ Clip of Steven Tyler singing James Brown. And high kicking. For no reason. ] Wait, is Steven competing now? Can we vote him off? Will.i.am mentored the top nine while speaking in funny voices and refusing to make eye contact with them. [ Will.i.am exclaims, “Sammy!” ] Pia listened to the judges and finally did a fast song, Casey listened to the judges and finally did a bass song, and Jacob listened to his conscience and stopped a Gaye song. (Marvin Gaye, that is.) [ Clip of Jacob: “If I’m in the bottom three, it will be because America won’t be ready to look at themselves in the mirror.” ] [ Jim has a mirror at his desk. ] But Jacob, I am looking in the mirror. And my reflection’s telling me that your performance was terrible. But wait, can we go back to Pia and discuss that outfit? [ Clip of Michael Kors from old-school “Project Runway” saying, “The crotch on those pants is insane!!” ] Thank you, Michael Kors. On the results show it was headache [ shot of Russell Brand ], nightmare [ shot of Gwen Stefani giving fashion advice ], nausea [ shot of Harry Levin and his TMZ crew ], and then a sleazy rocker came back to relive his glory days when really everyone just wanted him to button up his shirt. [ Shots of Iggy Pop performing, but Jim cuts off the editor. ] Oh, no, no, no. I liked Iggy Pop. I was talking about Constantine. [ Clip of Constantine Maroulis: “Am i gonna get judged here?” ] Oh, you’re getting judged. And results!! Goodbye, Stefan-OH WAIT! Pia’s going home?! Stop the clock! [ Clip of a teary J.Lo: “I have no idea what just happened here. ] I’ll tell you what just happened here. You and your pals told Pia that she was perfect every week, when in actuality, she had the personality of wallpaper. But if you had done your job and given her notes to improve her stage presence three weeks ago, chances are Pia would have worked on that. She does, after all, strike me as a perfectionist. Maybe then, America would have fallen in love with her as much as they were in love with her voice. Steven, do you have anything to say for yourself? [ Clip of Steven Tyler: “A mistake is a mistake, but a lack of passion is unforgiveable.” ] This coming from the man who pretended to be asleep Wednesday night? Oh, hold my earrings. Randy Jackson, final thoughts? [ Clip of Randy: “I’m mad, and I don’t get upset!” ] Oh, you never get angry, do you? Well, you also don’t pay attention. Because you, of all people, should know that the cray-crays who vote a zillion times for their favorite contestant are mostly girls. And who have the girls been voting for, especially in the last three seasons? Boys! If only there was a way for you to protect the female talent, and saved that stupid judges’ save for someone with, you know, a vagina! Just sayin’! Hashtag it! And another thing, Randy Jackson. If you’re going to sit there and tell everybody that they’re amazing and beautiful and perfect and awesome, you have no right to act shocked or angry when the bottom three is announced. Don’t think I didn’t notice when you got all huffy once Haley was safe, even though the night before you said the old brilliant Haley was “back-ack-ack-ack-ack.” It is you three who need to look in a mirror. Boom fiyah! OK, you can start the clock again. [ The clock continues. ] Does anybody know when “The Voice” premieres? [ Ding! ] Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
