Robert Pattinson To Star In David Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’

The actor is set to star in David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis.” According to Deadline , Pattinson will play Eric Packer in the futuristic film, an adaptation of the novel by Don DeLillo. In the film version, Packer is described as “a financial wunderkind,” who risks his entire fortune to bet against Japan’s yen on a tumultuous day. His chancy move puts him in mortal danger. The flick is said to be “a drama that is a study of capitalism in a slightly futuristic metropolis.” The novel is a modern reinterpretation of James Joyce’s classic “Ulysses,” set in New York City in the year 2000, around the burst of the dot-com bubble. Most of the action in the book takes place over the course of one day, in the limousine Packer takes to his various errands. Other stars rumored to have signed up for the project include “Inception” star Marion Cotillard and Paul Giamatti. Deadline reported that Pattinson wanted the role because he is a big fan of Cronenberg’s work and an admirer of DeLillo’s books. The “Twilight” superstar is still hard at work on the vampire franchise. He’ll appear again as Edward Cullen in the two-part finale “Breaking Dawn,” the first of which opens in November. But up next, he’ll hit the big screen in the Depression-era romance “Water for Elephants,” alongside Reese Witherspoon. Acknowledging what millions of Pattinson fans already know, Witherspoon recently gushed to MTV News that her co-star is “extraordinarily attractive.” What do you think of Pattinson’s newest role? ‘Eclipse’ Gets Widest Domestic Release In Hollywood History

Opening in 4,416 theaters, the latest ‘Twilight’ film breaks record held by ‘Iron Man 2.’ By Josh Wigler Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” Photo: Summit Entertainment Fans of “The Twilight Saga” are used to watching dreamy vampire Edward Cullen face down routinely shirtless werewolf Jacob Black over the heart of the beautiful Bella Swan — but it seems that Edward and Jacob have put aside their differences to team up against a new, unexpected opponent: Tony Stark. Deadline Hollywood reports that “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” has already earned its first record without even officially landing in theaters. According to the report, “Eclipse” is currently slated to open in 4,416 theaters across North America, making it the single widest domestic release in Hollywood history. That same record was most recently held by Marvel Studios and Paramount’s “Iron Man 2,” which initially unspooled in 4,380 locations. Before that, “The Dark Knight” held the record in 2008 with 4,366 theaters. There is currently no official count of how many locations plan to launch “Eclipse” with midnight showings on Wednesday (June 30). Having already sunk its fangs into one record, the David Slade-directed “Eclipse” is well poised to cement its status in Hollywood history as it launches into theaters this week. In November, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” enjoyed a massive $140 million opening weekend, more than doubling the initial numbers for the first “Twilight” film. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News If you pay attention to the tabloids, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are either about to get engaged, or one “Twilight” co-star has gone ahead and dumped the other. It’s all too silly to pay attention to, and it proves how complicated it is for RPattz and KStew to have a relationship of any kind while so fully in the public eye. And the relationship of their fictional alter egos, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan , isn’t any easier. He was transformed into a deadly vampire in 1918; she’s a normal, accident-prone high school girl growing up in the Pacific Northwest. You can see why Pattinson might think Jacob Black is in many ways a better fit for Bella than Edward is. No matter that Black is a shape-shifting werewolf. “Their relationship is so much easier, Bella and Jacob, because he’s just a normal kid,” Pattinson told MTV News. “Edward’s got to remember, or learn, how to be a normal 17-year-old, because he’s never bothered.” As Pattinson describes it, Edward spent the first two movies in the vampire franchise remaining largely aloof, even going so far as to leave Bella in “New Moon,” deciding that she’d be better off without him. All that changes in “Eclipse,” and Edward has to play some serious cultural catch-up. It’s anything but easy. “[T]he whole thing is him having to accept the consequences of [being with Bella], which means catching up to the same pace of every other 17-year-old in the contemporary world, emotionally and intellectually and everything, and realizing he’s quite a long way behind,” Pattinson said. By Josh Wigler Robert Pattinson on “Oprah” Photo: Harpo Productions Robert Pattinson is best known for his turn as vampire heartthrob Edward Cullen in “The Twilight Saga,” but if the actor had followed through on his teenage hopes, he would have walked down a very different career path — as a rapper. “I used to want to be a rapper when I was, like, 14,” the British actor revealed during an appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” set to air Thursday. Pattinson, who was joined on the show by co-stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to promote the release of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” in June, explained that his interest in American movies, music and other entertainment helped him develop his American accent as Edward in “Twilight.” “But Kristen thinks I do the most terrible American accent,” he joked. “No, no I don’t,” Stewart laughed in response. “Occasionally, some word will come out, and I’ll be like, ‘We don’t say that!’ ” Of course, Pattinson did not pursue his youthful dreams of becoming a rapper. Instead, he became one of the most prominent icons in modern popular culture, thanks to his involvement in the “Twilight” series. “It’s a great position to be in, because you can walk into a room and everybody’s screaming,” he laughed of his association to “Twilight.” But Pattinson believes that fans are more passionate about his “Twilight” character than they are of the actor himself. “It’s not really about you,” he said. “So it never really goes to your head, and you can kind of participate in it. Twilight star Robert Pattinson has revealed he has lost touch with all his old friends in the UK because of his new-found fame. The hunky Brit has become an overnight sensation after playing Edward Cullen in the hit vampire movies. He now has millions of adoring fans and is rumored to be dating co-star Kristen Stewart but in an exclusive interview with The Sun , RPattz, has told how his fame has made him paranoid and how he now has no social life. “I’ve been forced to stay in a hotel for the last three years. It’s frustrating. I’m comforted by my guitar – my true companion that travels everywhere with me. I didn’t need this in the past, until I got back to London and found out I had lost my whole social life. It’s tough maintaining it when you don’t speak to anyone for over a year. I am now trying to get back in touch with some friends through Skype.Being well known is a real burden. I’m less open and have noticed that I’m actually getting paranoid.” The price of fame.

Robert Pattinson’s Wax Figure Unveiled At Tussauds!

getty images The new wax figure has been unveiled at Madame Tussauds in London.  It is no other than this hunk from the Twilight series, ROBERT PATTINSON! Robert Thomas Pattinson,  born on May 13, 1986, has been immortalized in wax at the London museum.  Thousands of lucky girls were there to witness the unveiling, which no doubt melted and mesmerized a few hearts. Droves of fans were queuing to snuggle up close to the famous R-Patz figure which had been made to resemble his Twilight character, Edward Cullen.  Complete with ghostly pallor, skinny pants and tousled hair, not to mention his trademark sultry expression. mirror.co.uk The figure took four months to create at a cost of UK £150,000. Pattinson has been honored with the inclusion after the massive success of his vampire flicks that have lunged him into the international celebrity stratosphere along with leading the pack of heartthrobs with teenage girls worldwide. Liz Edwards, a spokesperson for Tussauds museum, said: “R-Patz is one of the hottest celebs on the planet. We are delighted to be able to give them (the fans) the chance to cosy up with their idol here at Madame Tussauds and, judging by the reactions of the first to meet him here this morning, he is set to top our most-kissed list of celebrities very quickly.” Pattinson will now take his place alongside Johnny Depp and George Clooney in the VIP Hall and his figure is set to be launched at Madame Tussauds in New York soon.
