‘Red Riding Hood’ Star Amanda Seyfried Shoots Down Comparisons to ‘Twilight’

‘The truth is, it’s an entirely different story,’ actress says. By Aly Semigran Amanda Seyfried in “Red Riding Hood” Photo: Warner Bros. Mythical folklore. Catherine Hardwicke. A steamy, young love triangle involving a pretty girl and two cute guys, one of which may be a wolf. There was no doubt that when the formula used to create the revamped fairy tale “Red Riding Hood” was revealed, “Twilight” comparisons were bound to be made. It’s a roadblock that its star Amanda Seyfried, who plays the film’s scarlet-caped protagonist, is entirely aware of. MTV News caught up with Seyfried to discuss the film, which opens in theaters this Friday, and why moviegoers shouldn’t go in expecting another “Twilight.” “It’s a bummer that that’s what’s happening,” Seyfried said of the inevitable “Twilight” association. The 25-year-old actress, who admitted she doesn’t like when “an audience has [certain] expectations,” recognized that a lot of it certainly has to do with “Red Riding Hood” director Catherine Hardwicke, who was at the helm of the first “Twilight Saga” movie. “That’s her movie,” Seyfried acknowledged. Adding even more fuel to the “Twilight” fire is Seyfried’s “Red Riding Hood” co-star Billy Burke, who plays her father in the film and who is known to Twi-hards as Bella Swan’s dad. “Can’t forget about that,” she said with a smile, regarding Burke’s involvement with both projects. Still, she and her castmates, including her onscreen love interests Max Irons and Shiloh Fernandez, couldn’t help but poke fun of the situation on set. “We’d make jokes about [Hardwicke] calling us Kristen [Stewart] and Rob [Pattinson] and Taylor [Lautner],” Seyfried told MTV. Interestingly enough, Fernandez was one of the actors originally considered for the role of brooding vampire Edward Cullen in “Twilight.” But Seyfried remains adamant about audiences being able to distinguish the difference between this film and the “Twilight Saga.” “Red Riding Hood” is a new take on the classic fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood” that follows a young woman named Valerie, who is torn between choosing from two men, all while her small village is terrorized by a mysterious wolf. “Yeah, I mean it does surround a girl coming of age in a love triangle, but that’s a lot of movies,” Seyfried said. “The truth is, it’s an entirely different story. “I think audiences are going to be really surprised when they end up seeing this movie because … there’s so many elements and there’s so much going on,” she assured, giving her own synopsis of the PG-13 chiller, “It’s a murder mystery as well as a coming-of-age movie, and there’s a lot of tension and it’s scary. All those elements combine to be thrilling, I think.” Do you think “Red Riding Hood” will be able to set itself apart from “Twilight”? Tell us in the comments. The Dancing With the Stars Favorite Is …

Not only is Kendra Wilkinson perhaps the biggest name on Dancing With the Stars this season, she’s the odds-on favorite to take home the Mirror Ball trophy. That’s according to Bodog (dot) com, which puts Kendra chances of winning the DWTS title at 3:1. You can also get the Knicks -12 vs. Cleveland tonight, FYI. Seriously, you can bet on Dancing With the Stars Season 12 pairings . Ralph Macchio (7:2) and Disney star Chelsea Kane (4:1) also have decent odds. Favorite or underdog, Kendra just wants to get out on the floor . “It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time in my life,” Kendra says . “I’m almost back to my pre-baby body so I’m excited for all the costumes! I’ve always loved the show, so its really cool I get to be on it. I have a competitive streak in me.” “I’m so excited to get out there and compete!” Also excited? Maksim Chmerkovskiy . Not only is he happy to be back in his element after The Bachelor: Ukraine experience, but he’s probably so pissed that he’s not among the three favorites to win. He loves a chip on his shoulder to motivate him y’know.

Robert Pattinson Talks Kristen Stewart, Charlie Sheen In Vanity Fair

‘Twilight’ star says ‘the media will lose interest’ in his rumored relationship with Stewart when the series ends. By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson on the April 2011 cover of Vanity Fair Photo: Annie Leibovitz / Conde Nast Sure, he graces the cover of Vanity Fair with an alligator, but it’s what Robert Pattinson says inside the magazine that will have his fans drooling. The “Water for Elephants” star, who normally doesn’t say much about Kristen Stewart, opens up about his “Twilight” co-star and rumored girlfriend in the new issue, which hits newsstands March 3. “Kristen is very focused on being an actress,” Pattinson said. “I mean, that’s what she is — she’s an actress. Whereas I — I just don’t really know.” Pattinson also admits that he has admired Stewart for a long time. “She’s cool. Even before I knew her, I thought she was a really good actress. Like, I saw ‘Into the Wild,’ and I thought she was really good in that. I still think there are very few girls in her class that are as good as she is.” He added that all the speculation about their relationship has been “traumatic.” “When this is over,” Pattinson adds of the “Twilight” series, “the media will lose interest [in the relationship]. There’ll be nothing to say. It won’t fit into a headline anymore. It won’t fit into a template.” Pattinson also had some kind words for currently embattled TV star Charlie Sheen, saying he admired the actor’s “little escapades,” adding, “I like crazy people who don’t give a f—. … I’ve just kind of stopped doing everything. I never change the channel in my trailer. I just watch reruns of ‘House of Payne’ and ‘Two and a Half Men.’ I love ‘Cops’ — I think it’s my favorite TV show. … God, I sound like such a loser.” Aside from all the talk about his Hollywood peers, the star also waxed sentimental about his time as Edward Cullen in “Twilight.” “I can’t really understand it even now,” he said of the mania. “It does have an angle which is attached to something quite primal in girls. I guess people want it to define them, like, ‘I’m a “Twilight” fan.’ … I think people really just like being part of a crowd. There’s something just tremendously exciting about hyping yourself up to that level.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Robert Pattinson Says ‘Water For Elephants’ Felt Like ‘Big Movie’

‘It felt totally different from doing something within the ‘Twilight’ world,’ he tells MTV News of stretching beyond vampire role. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in “Water for Elephants” Photo: Fame Pictures For all of the Robert Pattinson fans counting down the days until your favorite actor hits the big screen again, know that there’s now just about three months (94 days, to be exact) until the “Twilight” hunk’s next movie, “Water for Elephants,” opens. When MTV News caught up with Pattinson at Sunday’s Golden Globes (he co-presented the award for Best Foreign Film), we asked whether he thought “Elephants” was a big stepping stone for him, acting-wise. “I think so,” he said. “It definitely felt like I was doing a big movie when I was doing it and it felt totally different from doing something within the ‘Twilight’ world because now it just seems so familiar, the ‘Twilight’ stuff. It’s just like going to a normal job, doing that,” he explained of playing vampire Edward Cullen in the franchise. Pattinson’s “Elephants” co-star Reese Witherspoon told MTV News recently that she couldn’t help but agree with millions of fans about one thing: “He is extraordinarily attractive,” she told us. “I’m not gonna lie.” Witherspoon shares a kiss with Rpattz in the upcoming film and a new photo of the two in a lip-lock may make more than a few “Twilight” fans jealous. But Witherspoon was quick to add that Pattinson is attractive both inside — and out. “Robert is such a great guy from a great family,” she told us last month. “That’s the thing that’s so funny. He’s not really this bad boy; he’s just a great guy and really worked hard on ‘Water for Elephants.’ He really worked long hours, long days. He looks totally different in the movie.” Are you looking forward to how Reese compares to KStew as an onscreen leading lady to RPattz? Tell us in the comments! Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Hid Evidence, Guard Testifies

Testimony has Conrad Murray removing IV stand and two bags of medication. By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by Kara Warner Alberto Alvarez, Michael Jackson’s bodyguard, leaves court after testifying at the preliminary hearing for Dr. Conrad Murray on January 5 Photo: Toby Canham/Getty Images The second day of testimony in the preliminary hearing of Michael Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray , featured damning testimony from one of the late King of Pop’s bodyguards about Murray’s actions in the critical minutes after the singer was found unresponsive. After a former Jackson staffer testified Tuesday that Murray appeared to not know how to perform CPR properly , security guard Alberto Alvarez said on Wednesday (January 5) that the cardiologist frantically grabbed medical evidence from the star’s bedroom before instructing Alvarez to call 911. The Los Angeles Times reported that Alvarez said he was the first person to walk into Jackson’s bedroom after Murray realized his patient was not breathing, where he found the cardiologist administering chest compressions with one hand while Jackson lay on his bed, which goes against the recommended procedure for the life-saving method. “I said, ‘Dr. Murray, what happened?’ ” Alvarez told the court. ” ‘He had a bad reaction, he had a bad reaction,’ that’s all he said.” Alvarez choked up as he described how Jackson’s daughter, Paris, followed him into the room and screamed when she saw her father sprawled out and unresponsive on the bed. He said Murray then instructed him to get the children out of the room, noticing as he left that Jackson’s penis was out of his underwear and that medical tubing was attached to it. When Deputy District Attorney David Walgren asked Alvarez if he knew what a condom catheter was, the security guard said he did not. Alvarez said he then witnessed Murray grabbing a handful of medicine bottles and instructing the security guard to put them in a bag. He told the court that he held open the bag as the doctor dropped the bottles of medicine inside and then put it in a brown canvas bag on the floor, per Murray’s instructions. Murray also allegedly told Alvarez to grab one of the two bags hanging on an IV stand next to Jackson’s bed and put it in another bag. Alvarez said he noticed a “milk-like substance” in the bottom of the IV bag. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office determined that Jackson died of an acute intoxication of propofol, a powerful surgical anesthetic sometimes referred to as “milk of amnesia” thanks to its milky white appearance. Only after the medical materials had been put away did Murray tell Alvarez to call 911. “After you had collected the bottles per Dr. Murray’s instructions, and after you had collected the bags per Dr. Murray’s instructions, did Dr. Murray instruct you to call 911?” Walgren asked. “Yes, sir,” Alvarez responded. TMZ reported that during cross-examination, defense attorney Ed Chernoff got Alvarez to admit that he never told police about Murray ordering him to remove the bottles and Alvarez later admitted that he may try to sell his story. Later in the day, EMT Richard Senniff testified that he arrived at the Jackson home, just four minutes after the 911 call was placed. According to TMZ, Senniff said that, based on the condition of Jackson’s body, it appeared that Murray waited at least 20 minutes to call 911. Senniff also stated that when he asked Murray what meds Jackson had been administered, he only listed lorazepam (Ativan). Jackson cook Kai Chase also testified, revealing the food she prepared for Jackson prior to his death (seared ahi tuna and salad, white bean Tuscan soup) and that she knew something was wrong when Murray came downstairs in a panic and summoned Jackson’s son, Prince. The preliminary hearing is aimed at determining whether there is enough evidence to try Murray on a felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of the King of Pop. It is expected to last two to three weeks. Related Artists Michael Jackson
