‘New Year’s Eve’ Stars Reveal How Not To Ring In 2012

By Christina Garibaldi Zac Efron Photo: MTV News New Year’s Eve is a night of celebration with family and friends, but it can also be one of the most-stressful nights of the year. Tough questions must be answered about what to do and what to wear in order to have a memorable end to the year. Well, we at MTV News can’t give you those answers, but with help from the stars of this year’s box office hit “New Year’s Eve,” we can tell you what not to do in order to avoid disaster as you ring in 2012. “[Don’t] plan an important evening,” Jessica Biel told us at the New York City premiere of “New Year’s Eve.” “Don’t do that, because it’s too much pressure. If you’re planning on having the best night of the year, you will have the worst night of the year. Do nothing, and then see what happens.” And it seems like co-star Abigail Breslin agrees that you can’t plan to have the perfect night. “[Don’t] put too much pressure on it; just let things happen, kind of like fate,” Breslin said. “Just let things go how they’re meant to go.” Director Garry Marshall has some advice for all those girls who are waiting for their New Year’s kiss: “Don’t wear a lot of lipstick, because with a little luck, they’re gonna kiss you, and you may kiss more than one guy!” Marshall said, laughing. If your plans entail heading out on the town, make sure you take Zac Efron’s advice before you bust out those dance moves. “Don’t be the first one on the dance floor — wait,” Efron said. “Let two people get out there, and then go get a circle going, then get it going, pop it out, Michael Jackson moves.” Still haven’t figured out your New Year’s plans? This time, she and “Glee” faculty heartthrob Matthew Morrison will be heating things up with a romantic story line. Aside from the dating arc with Mr. Schuester, details about how Paltrow will once again shake things up as sassy substitute Holly Holliday remain scant — even “Glee” star Lea Michele is in the dark about her possible scenes with the superstar actress. When MTV News caught up with the singer/actress on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday (January 16), she admitted that she didn’t know much about Paltrow’s return but maintained, “I’m excited. Anything with Gwyneth is great.” In addition to Paltrow, superstar Justin Bieber is set to be incorporated into the hit show soon, as the show is slated to take on some of the pop star’s peppy catalog. But when it comes to the Biebs, Michele divulged that she won’t be belting any of the teen idol’s tunes, and said everything will be left up to the “Glee” guys. “I’m not [singing Justin Bieber], but the boys are,” Michele dished. While Michele was short on “Glee” details, show co-creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed how Bieber would fit into in the hit series, batting away rumors that an all-Bieber episode was in the works. “Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,” Murphy explained of why they won’t dedicate an entire episode to the teen sensation’s smashes. “Bieber comes up in episode 13 as a small plot point. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Zac Efron Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images We’re sure fans of Zac Efron won’t mind seeing him all muscled up for his next film, “The Lucky One,” based on the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name. Not only did Efron get buffed up for the role , but he also shaved off his signature locks to play a marine who, after three tours in Iraq, returns home to North Carolina to look for the unknown woman he believes was his good-luck charm while he was fighting in the war abroad. “It was hard, man,” Efron recalled about his training for the film when he spoke to MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday night (January 16). “I knew that the second I went to Camp Pendleton and met these real marines, I didn’t have that presence.” So what kind of presence did Efron have to achieve in order to play Logan Thibault in the Scott Hicks-directed film, set for 2012 release? “They’ve got this way about them, but they’re, like, 50 pounds heavier, so I started training immediately to do the best I could,” he explained. ” ‘Cause it’s a kind of sensitive part. I care too much about it to let it slide. I really wanted to put in the work.” The film follows in the more serious direction Efron has been taking in his roles as of late. Last year, he starred in “Charlie St. Cloud,” but he will return to the world of romantic comedies when he stars in the ensemble rom-com “New Year’s Eve” in December. In the film, Efron plays a Marine just back from his third tour of duty in Iraq. Zac actually convinced multiple crew members to shave their heads. In exchange, he donated money to a local charity.
