The Run The Jewels rapper made a very public run to help Bernie Sanders during the election but was burned by how the Dems treated the black community… Supporting Sanders left him with an even more bitter taste for the Democratic Party, which black people have overwhelmingly followed for decades now. “What has happened in the last 50 to 60 years of being Democrats,” he says, “is we’ve become almost like a neglected wife. We’re faithful. We vote over 80 to 90 percent Democratic and the larger party seems to care nothing about us. “Everyone brags that unemployment is down to 5 percent but that’s not true among African-American men,” he continues. “It’s not true among African-American youth, but we aren’t holding the feet to the fire of the people that we’re voting for.” What can the Democratic party do for you? At this point, it’s nearly impossible to be surprised by anything Donald Trump says or does. He recently shot down claims that he watched two prostitutes urinate on each other because he’s a germophobe , for example. But while many have come to expect the ridiculous, the false and the infuriating from Trump, they remain peeved and perplexed when faced with everything that surrounds Donald Trump. Like how quiet Republican lawmakers were when Trump slammed Civil Rights icon John Lewis? Sure. But let’s focus more for a moment on how Spencer’s Gifts has chosen to profit off the Trump Presidency. A store known for selling novelty items, Spencer’s may finally have gone too far. Because while a coffee mug that reads “Coffee Makes Me [Poop Emoji]” may be humorous, most sane-minded individuals out there find nothing funny about the following shirts currently on the market: “In case anyone still needed a reason to never walk into a @Spencers again, this is proudly being displayed in the front of their PDX store,” wrote Twitter Mary Numair last week. Yes, the store is actually selling a shirt based on Trump’s admission that he often just grabs women by the pussy , an admission he made on tape back in 2005 when speaking to Billy Bush. Most folks interpreted this remark as an example of sexual assault. But Spencer’s sees it as a marketing opportunity. “He’s done it again,” the official description of this piece of attire reads online. “The Donald grabbed America by the pu$$y this election, now you can too with this hilarious political tee! This laugh out loud Spencer’s exclusive shirt is perfect for reminding everyone that Trump’s in charge.” The item is currently sold-out on the Spencer’s website. Trump will take the oath of office on January 20 with the lowest approval rating of any incoming President in modern political history. But the online reaction to these shirts may be even harsher than the reaction of those who don’t want him to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Focusing specifically on the “Grab America by the Pussy” top, one Twitter user summed up our feelings perfectly. “This tee shouldn’t have made it past the pitch room, @Spencers,” he wrote. “Not a matter of being offended; it’s elevating sex assault as patriotism.” “Sexual assault is not patriotism, @Spencers. It’s not a joke or a slogan. For too many, it’s a lived experience of violation & violence,” wrote another irate American. Some are calling for a boycott of Spencer’s in light of these offensive shirts. Do you think this is the right move? Do you think people have a right to be angry over these items? Or is it all in good fun? And where do these shirts rank in the history of crude articles of clothing? The Audacity Of Orange: Donald Trump Tweets Badly About John Lewis This has gotten out of control… If you saw the film “Selma” you probably will remember watching a young John Lewis on the screen, living out his legacy as a Civil Rights leader who walked beside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lewis, as pointed out by Goldie Taylor of The Daily Beast , “was president of the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee (SNCC) and is the youngest and only living member of “The Big Six.” Lewis was one of the original 13 Freedom Riders, young people who risked their lives to challenge racial segregation in the South. He was arrested 45 times, beaten and bloodied in the name of human rights. Lewis became a congressman who represents Georgia’s 5th Congressional District… But Friday he told Meet the Press” he will miss his first Presidential inauguration in 30 years in Congress because he doesn’t feel that Donald Trump is a legitimate President. You may recall President Obama urged Trump to visit the museum after he said during the presidential campaign that there has “never been a worse time to be a black person” in America… Clearly Trump needs to brush up on his American history. It wasn’t a conscious choice (a) to be an actress, (b) to be a famous actress, and (c) to be—she shook things up—a model for so many young women. On the political climate in Hollywood: It’s hard to talk about politics in a Hollywood world. I learned that really quickly. But after the California primaries, when Bernie Sanders lost—and I’m not saying he should have won—I knew that Trump was going to win. Because I’d been on the ground for months, and we would be in small cities in America and big cities in America, and Bernie would get tens of thousands of people at his rallies. And then Trump would come and he’d get the same numbers. But Hillary would only have a few hundred people at her fundraisers. It doesn’t matter how much more you have in your bank; if 50,000 people show up to your opponents’ rallies and you only have a few hundred people, it says a lot about what the people of America are ready to do. Welp…that’s y’all’s president … Electoral College Upholds Trump Win For all those who were holding tightly to the thin glimmer of hope that members of the electoral college were going to abandon their state’s vote …we have bad news. Chester Cheeto is officially our commander-in-chief, though not for lack of effort on some of the college members. According to New York Times , a handful broke ranks from what their states decided: Presidential electors — and particularly Republican electors, who are bound by tradition and often state law to support Mr. Trump — were inundated with phone calls, emails and even threats demanding that they vote for someone else. Leaders of groups that were lobbying the electors had privately believed they had a chance to persuade enough Republican electors to defect, denying him an Electoral College majority and throwing the election to the House of Representatives. But by late Monday, only a handful of electors had broken ranks. While Mr. Trump’s opponents needed 37 Republican defectors to bring his electoral-vote tally below 270, the bulk of electors who broke ranks — four in Washington State — were Democrats who otherwise would have voted for Ms. Clinton. Instead, they voted for the former Republican secretary of state Colin L. Powell and Faith Spotted Eagle, a Native American tribal leader who has led opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline. Elsewhere, Democratic electors who sought to vote for someone besides Mrs. Clinton switched back to her under pressure or were replaced with Clinton supporters. In Texas, two Republican electors cast protest votes, one each for Ron Paul and Gov. John Kasich of Ohio. One other Republican opposed to Mr. Trump resigned and was replaced. A strategy memo by the anti-Trump forces has estimated that as many as 34 Republican electors were prepared to vote for someone besides Mr. Trump, but also said many were afraid of the consequences and suggested that a poor turnout of other anti-Trump electors would weaken their resolve. SMH! So had the additional few just manned up, we could have been rescued from an orange-tinted characature who can’t spell running the free world. It’s not as if anyone is shocked, though…
