Robert Pattinson’s ‘Water For Elephants’ Trailer Arrives

Reese Witherspoon’s circus performer tantalizes RPattz in tragic Depression-era love story. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson in the “Water For Elephants” trailer Photo: FOX We’ve seen Robert Pattinson’s side-buzzed ‘do . We’ve checked out pictures of RPattz and Reese Witherspoon smooching on the set. We’ve heard Witherspoon call her co-star “extraordinarily attractive.” Now we’ve gotten our first official look at the trailer for “Water for Elephants,” Pattinson and Witherspoon’s love story set in a Depression-era circus. The footage buries the lede somewhat: It’s a full 37 seconds before we get our first look at RPattz as Jacob Janowski. But the trailer neatly contextualizes the storyline. The film is told as a flashback, with Jacob’s 90-something-year-old self looking back on the events of his youth. Back then, he found himself in the midst of some unnamed circus-based tragedy. What happened, we don’t know (well, unless we read the book), but we have a feeling this story isn’t going to end well. The trailer waits almost another 20 seconds to introduce us to Witherspoon’s character, Marlena Rosenbluth, an elegant performer with a knack for getting horses to do near-magical feats. Pattinson is immediately intrigued by her, calling her a “beautiful woman [who] deserves a beautiful life.” The only problem is that she’s married to Christoph Waltz’s August Rosenbluth, a dark-minded animal trainer. No matter! Jacob and Marlena fall in love and together begin to look for a way to create a life with each other. But where can they go? As Marlena tells him, in the circus, “I’m a star. Out there, I got nothing.” Directed by Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend”) and based on the New York Times best-seller, “Water for Elephants” hits theaters on April 15. Jennifer Lopez Dishes On ‘Most Fascinating People’ Interview With Barbara Walters

Star credits ‘American Idol’ gig, new music and motherhood with landing her a spot on annual list. By James Dinh Jennifer Lopez Photo: WireImage Thanks to the upcoming season of “American Idol,” an impending new album and recently announced endorsement deals, Jennifer Lopez ‘s career is seeing a resurgence. So it’s no surprise that the pop star, who spent recent years lying low to raise her twins alongside husband Marc Anthony, nabbed a spot on Barbara Walters’ “10 Most Fascinating People of 2010” list. Speaking with WWD , Lopez credited her inclusion on the celeb hot list to a combination of personal and professional endeavors including “the ‘American Idol’ [deal to appear as a judge] and also being a mom and entering back in the scene with the album.” The singer also admitted that she felt the pressure from the news correspondent during the interview, which airs Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. WWD joked with the singer/actress about whether Walters asked her questions like “What kind of tree are you?” She replied, “She didn’t ask me that, but she did ask me some kind of an abstract question like that, where I was like, ‘You’re Barbara Walter-ing me right now!’ ” Lopez, who joins Steven Tyler on the “Idol” judging panel this season, has also been chosen as the new face for L’Or

Robert Pattinson Is ‘Extraordinarily Attractive,’ Admits Reese Witherspoon

Actress marvels at the ‘fervor’ around her ‘Water for Elephants’ co-star. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Reese Witherspoon Photo: MTV News Reese Witherspoon became a household name in the late ’90s with a string of scene-stealing turns in films like “Pleasantville” and “Election.” Around the same time, Leonardo DiCaprio was transforming from teen heartthrob to mature Hollywood A-lister, thanks to the nearly $2 billion dollar success of “Titanic.” Over a decade later, Witherspoon has been thinking back to that pop culture period. It’s the only way she can make sense of the overwhelming popularity of her “Water for Elephants” co-star Robert Pattinson . “The only thing I can compare it to is when Leo was in ‘Titanic,’ ” she told MTV News while promoting her upcoming movie “How Do You Know.” “It was that kind of fervor about a person. The women lining up outside the set — it was unbelievable — till 5 o’clock in the morning waiting to just glimpse him.” The Tennessee set of “Water for Elephants” was basically no different than what happens when the “Twilight” vamp goes anywhere. As director Francis Lawrence told us in the fall, “[E]very day there would be, like, 50 people [staked out] … . [T]here would be people camped out in the hallways of our hotel. All day, all night long, it didn’t matter. People were there to try to catch a glimpse.” Witherspoon, of course, got an up-close-and-personal glimpse of RPattz, and she was happy to report back to us: “He is extraordinarily attractive. I’m not gonna lie,” she said. “Robert is such a great guy from a great family,” she explained. “That’s the thing that’s so funny. He’s not really this bad boy; he’s just a great guy and really worked hard on ‘Water for Elephants.’ He really worked long hours, long days. He looks totally different in the movie.” Check out everything we’ve got on “How Do You Know.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

Elephants on drunken rampage kill three people

Binge-drinking elephants, drunk on local hooch, have killed three people and destroyed 60 homes in a four-day rampage in east India. Yesterday they were reported by local officials to be sleeping off hangovers as shocked communities tried to clear the wreckage left by the 70-strong herd in remote villages on the borders of the states of Orissa and West Bengal. With a local festival approaching, villagers had stockpiled the fermented-rice based drink which is stored in earthenware vessels and, according to Bijay Kumar Panda, a local administrator, the elephants found and drank it. They then staggered through the surrounding area and began “to fall asleep hither and thither, throwing life completely haywire”. According to the Pioneer newspaper, the “jumbos” are known “for their love of local country-made brews” which they “gulp down and make merry at the expense of the villagers”. Elephant experts say such incidents are becoming more common. With pristine forest increasingly rare, especially in the area where this latest incident occurred, Indian elephants no longer avoid contact with humans, said Dr Amirtharaj Williams, Asian rhino and elephant programme co-ordinator for the World Wildlife Fund. “These herds are effectively semi-urbanised. There are elephants who are getting a taste for food that humans prepare because it is tastier, stronger-smelling and often more nutritious and that includes rice- or molasses-based drinks. Some go looking for it.” Around 400 people are killed each year by elephants in India and nearly a million hectares of farmland damaged. Around 100 elephants are killed by villagers each year. India's booming population and economic growth have placed the historic grazing lands of elephants under enormous pressure. To avoid exhausting fodder in one area, the herds migrate. Attempts to create safe corridors for the animals' travel have foundered on bureaucratic sloth and lack of enforcement. In September seven elephants were killed by a speeding goods train. Latest estimates put India's elephant population at around 21,000 – the largest in Asia. About half of these are found in north-eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. added by: device80

UN Recommends Chili Ping Pong Balls & Snake-Filled Bread to Stop Animals Marauding African Farms

photo: flickrfavorites The UN Food and Agriculture Organization has some novel and low-tech solutions for dealing with the age-old problem of wild animals raiding the crops of African farmers : Chili peppers to drive off elephants, guard donkeys for lions, cheetahs, and hyenas, and (perhaps my favorite for sheer inventiveness) placing live snakes in loaves of bread … Read the full story on TreeHugger
